There are no posts in here about it, so am I the only one with issues? Signal loses lock about every 5 seconds, and bounces me all over the place in Google maps, and Navigon. I'm completely stock. I downloaded a gps app, and it's locking on to 12 or so satellites.

try to clear data and cache settings
just a "duh" note, make sure GPS is on and not just network location, I'm sure you all have but it never hurts to triple check also check your powersave mode, not sure if they may have an effect on it.

Faster fix and top ntp do the same thing it changes the GPS server from a generic one to one to what part of the world you live in
Then use GPS status/GPS test to update agps. Bam good to go. As long as it's not a hardware problem

Same here. I also tried bending the "leaf contacts" on the phone so the antenna makes a good connection.
My phone can see 25 satellites but it can't get a GPS lock, any ideas?
I have had serious problems with GPS on custom ROM's (among other issues). They would show the satellites, but it worked like garbage.
I did a full wipe, and ODIN'd to stock, and it's been great ever since then.
Have you tried making a nandroid, and doing a factory reset and full wipe, to see if it works well after? That should allow you to rule out if it's hardware related or software.

edit: just tried speedtest.net on my i..... err.... "other" phone.... and speedtest.net isn't finding a location server either.... so it's not my nexus.... maybe the GPS is working after all...
The "fix" does nothing for me and I've tried GPS test GPS status and faster fix. Have reset the a GPS setting and still nothing. The GPS icon doesn't flash or fill in it just stays empty until after about 30 seconds then tells me unable to get a location

Google fixed A-GPS data that they were serving phones. People are now reporting that they're able to get locks again. Mine's been a bit shaky still, but I do lock eventually.
Try another rom. I was using cm10 alpha and was starting to blame my gnex. But then I tried jelly bean stock, liquid ics, and some other rom. And GPS started to work like a champ. Instant GPS lock. And while I was on edge too! Try another rom.

Try liquid ics. I'm using he GSM nexus with T-mobile. This would help determine if its a software issue or hardware. Yesterday I put liquid ics and stock jb.to the test by driving around my city and they both locked on and responded very fast.

Last week, some bad A-GPS data got pushed out to Nexus devices, and people were unable to get a GPS lock for several days.
I had no issues when everyone was reporting GPS issues but today my GNex took at least 3-4 minutes to lock onto GPS. I'm not confident it isn't ROM issue, I'd have to run some other tests to isolate it, but there is definitely something weird going on with GNex's GPS.
First of all I'm on AOKP 715 m6. My gps was nonexistent even though it was good on earlier versions. I was running a modded vle radio which i don't remember the source. Anyways, i flashed tdj's modded vle radio in one of his threads and gps initial locked on in less than 5 mins. It then locks on in less than a min after that.
At first i thought it was the kernel, so i flashed different ones, but no changes. however the radio definitely fixed it for me on AOKP.
So to those with gps problems try flashing tdj's modded radios. Sorry for being lazy on my phone and not linking them.

This was discussed months ago. Its the basic reason modded radios were made. Apparently the RILS break GPS. So yes GPS won't work unless you flash one of the modded radios, as you found out by accident lol.

I am not using a modded radio I am using the one that came with the ics official update uvle1. And I am running AOKP M6 7-15. My GPS is the best it has ever been I get instant locks even indoors. And It is accurate too. I have also used other roms and had the same results.

yeah i remembered that discussion, and I flashed a modded radio and it worked for most ROMs. I was then really bothered that my uber great locking GPS was no more... I seriously thought I flashed TDJ's radio because I had a file with the same name in my sd card. So I was bummed and decided to test kernels because thats like testing 2 things at once lol. But yeah I ended up checking the md5 of the modded radio i had on my sd card and it turns out it wasn't the same. Must have gotten it from a different thread even though the file name was the same.
But yeah it's just a little reminder to those who have GPS problems, that even though you may think you have a perfectly working radio... you should just flash TDJ's radio mods just in case.
Just flashed TDJ's modded UCLE1 radio...still no luck with GPS

What do you guys mean when you say "breaks GPS"? I am trying to determine if my problem is similar to yours.
My problem is not really an issue with the GPS but an issue with Google Maps. When I use navigation from point A to point B, say Schaumburg to Chicago, it'll always speak directions as if it's going from point B to point A, although all the on-screen directions are correct.
I uninstalled the app and reinstalled, but have not yet tested to see if that fixed it.

Yes this is what I have to do every time I flash a ROM and GPS breaks. I made a thread about it and there are also 2 more threads. Its a zip file you flash through cwm. Also people don't forget that if you're on cyanogenmod that you have to go into location services, GPS source and tick "use internal GPS". Or else GPS will barely work.

didn't know he had a ucle1 radio, he has a uvle1 radio though maybe try that one.
If it is the first time you're trying to lock on, it might take a while, you should turn off wifi and data while leaving your GPS on. Stand outside with it on for 5-10 mins or so, it should get a lock on. After that your GPS locks quicker the more frequent you use it.
I think a lot of people would expect GPS to lock on right away, this only happens if your phone has recent locks to the GPS. I find it best with wifi and data off and to just leave the gps on and google maps on.
btw i've tried the AGPS patch before, but if you have a crappy radio it still won't connect lol.
Here's the screenshot without data or wifi. This is inside my house. Notice the gps signal has a constant dot in the middle, i know for aokp this means i have locked on.probably the same for cm, not sure about tw, haven't been on that for a month.
Anyways it has went as low as 4m, so pretty good. This is without apply the patch.

gps test
I just updated (downloaded from sammobile then Odin) on stock unrooted AT&T device. My GPS locks in just fine, sitting still in my house. Not sure what its like while moving...
I just tested mine using GPS Test. I stepped outside of my office building, started the app, and the GPS locked on in about 1-2 seconds. This is better performance than I was getting before on ICS (it would usually take 8-10 seconds to lock on). FWIW, I updated to JB using the pre-rooted file from Mr. Robinson's thread via Odin.
Gps not showing sats is discussed in development forum.

G3 on Rogers here. I flashed my update with Odin and I've rooted. My GPS locks on in 1 to 2 seconds.
Navigon worked fine w/ gps the past couple of days. Have had no issues after upgrading to jb
I am completely stock on jb and get great lock. I am sitting inside a building and get a gps lock.
I am loosing gps even after wiping after the update. It locks fine after about a 15 mile drive it dropped amd would show the gps icon anymore. Had to reboot. And it started working again. Maybe 4.1.2 will fix it

I'm having difficulties now as well. AT&T, just got the 4.1.1 upgrade yesterday. I checked my GPS this morning and nothing. No satellites, no lock, nothing. Loaded up GMaps an it is only getting a triangulation off the cell towers, no satellite lock either.
I'm going to test again this afternoon when I'm outdoors and try again.
4.0.1 had lightning fast GPS locks, so this is very odd for it to be so slow. Previously, I'd simply press GPS and before I could get into Maps I'd already have a lock.
It happen again today. It seems to be around every 15 miles or so. Its spot on leading up to the dropout.

Anybody figure out how to fix the gps issue? I downgraded to ics and updated to jb again and no luck. Also I am having WiFi dropping out and data dropping only can be fixed by enabling and disabling airplane mode. When the GPS is working the locks are instant and spot on.
As title states...GPS is not working. On Google Nav app, it just stays on "searching for gps". I have the GPS turned on and have cleared cache and data from the maps app. I restored to a previous nandroid backup where it was working. What in the hell would cause this, and is there a simple fix I'm missing?

Had the same problem as you. It just wouldn't lock into any Satellite. After some research, found an app called GpsFix in Google Play. Fixed it and now works great. Remember to also have the wifi antenna on, even if you're not connected to any hotspot. Don't know how it works, but makes the GPS more precise.
Is anyone else having this problem? My phone is also unable to lock on any satellite... I'm not sure if it's related to the fact that I've rooted it.

I ended up flashing an old nandroid backup where it finally worked, then dirty flashed the latest of that ROM over it and that did the trick. I have NO CLUE what happened, but I did get it fixed.

When did it start? Once you updated it to 4.4.4? Before that? You can't tell the difference between you're GPS pure 4.4.4 and post 4.4.4?
All I know is, I'm on 4.4.4, and my GPS locks in insanely fast. Flashed a certain rom, and took longer to lock on, and Google maps would be inverted, and just looked outdated and strange for some reason. I rely on GPS too much to mess up a great thing.

Not if it's a hardware issue, which it could be. Only other thing you can try is to open the device and make sure there are no loose connections, or tighten some screws
Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
Sometimes you have to let the device sit outside for a half hour and let it find it's own lock.
Then once it figures out what hemisphere it's in, it is faster the next time.
Sometimes that works. Sometimes it doesn't. It's worth a shot though.
