[Q] SMS message unread count always showing unread messages. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Has anyone else been experiencing this issue? When I reboot the phone, it goes away, only for awhile. When my phone's screen is off, and someone texts me, i will see the message on the lock screen. If I tap the unread message from the lock screen, it will go directly to that message. However, when I back out to the home screen, I see the unread message count still showing that message. If I tap on Messages, i don't see any unread messages, yet it continually shows it still have one. It doesn't go away.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I had to reboot and it went away.

When I reboot, it goes away also, but it keeps rearing it's ugly head every now and then.
I know the importance of rebooting our phone. However, this is a $700+ phone that supposed to be a "premium" top-of-the-line device, that I need to reboot several times per day because the SMS Messages unread count is off.
(scratching head) doesn't sound right.

I would backup the messages and clear data on the app.

"Messaging" bug

Hi! I'm seeing this problem for a couple of times now and it has started since my X1 was new!
When a new msg comes in, i click on it and read it from the pre installed messaging app, then when I close it by pressing ok, Nothing happens!! And when I press the windows button and goto today, it still shows the new message icon! Even though I have already read it. Then the only way I can close the "messaging" app, is by going to the task bar. But even then it would still show as a new message! Final solution is to soft reset it!
Any thing I can do about this? I have seen this has happened a couple of times to me even before I upgraded my ROM from SE and performed a hard reset. And the problem still continues. Its so frustrating.
Click on the message, press ON the received message, make sure it is no longer in bold, then press OK at the top.
Buddy, thats what I jst told: It wouldn't do it. All of a sudden, when a message comes in, I read it and then click on ok, it just stays there doing nothing. I click on options and close and still nothing happens. Then I click on windows and "Today" and the message is still displayed as unread. Then I am just left with softreset and it comes back to normal.
You have ensured that the message is no longer in bold text, yes?
That is what this is all about. It doesn't say unread after I have read it. It remains in bold. What should I do?
What ROM are you using?

Click on the message in question (click on the bold text) until it turns normal.
if you are using threaded messaging (which should be the case),
you need to open the thread, and make sure you scroll over each message.
i noticed that issue happens when you have an earlier message which did not specifically have focus onto and stays bold ...
so the unread icon remains on the task bar.
so, be sure to go thru all the messages which are bold, in the thread.
this should safely solve the issue. (works for me since other WinMo phones...)
generally a windows 'bug', more than an Xperia bug.
N1T15H/.
I am using default ROM. Upgraded it with SEUS. No custom rom.
Press the sender's name located next to messages with the unopened letter icon.
there is a solution

Hi everyone,
i ve been gone through the same problem but not entirely similar. My problem aroused when i have installed r3a rom from genuine SE official site using update software. in my mobile it is showing that i have one message waiting to be read but when i click messages, to my astronishing it is empty, yet it is showing that i have a message. i tried many remedies but to no veil. Then as a final step i have to hard reset my device and believe me it is gone now. Everything is alright now. In this regard, i recommend once you hard reset your mobile and by gods will you will see the problem is vanished. Thankq

Resending Messages HELP

My new Touch Pro 2 has been giving me a problem since I got it, it's been resending messages to (as far as I know) everyone I've sent one to everytime I turn it off. The phone seems to hang pretty often and so I turn it off and back on (when it's not so bad that I have to do a battery pull). Everytime I turn my phone off and back on I get a message from about 4 different people saying "what?" because the phone seems to send some random message that I've sent to them before, but it's way out of place in the current conversation. I did a slight search on google and here and didn't see anything matching this, just about messages sending whenever, but mine doesn't seem to do that. Only when I turn the phone off and on.
Also, while I'm here, I also have a problem with a message not sent pop-up coming up pretty often, however, the message is sent. I just click ok and get out of it with no harm done, it just gets annoying sometimes. I don't know if that has anything to do with the phone also lagging a bit when I send a message and go to back out right away? I feel like I'm having a lot of issues with my TP2 and a lot of people aren't and are loving there's. I like the phone but it has these issues which are really turning me away Well, thanks for any help I can get here.
I may be jumping the gun by posting and not reading your entire message carefully because I find your post difficult to read. You should seriously try a custom ROM. Task29, flash radio, then flash ROM, then love it.

I'm guessing that when you send text messages you do it using contacts from the sim card, yes? Try copying them over to the phones' address book, then using those entries to text from, and see if that doesn't clear up the mystery message issue.
Says i have a message and i don't
opps ment to hit new thread. sorry

Problem with SMS timestamps and missed calls

Hey all,
Couple of problems. I don't seem to be getting the correct timestamps for SMS messages received while the phone was off, it just shows the time that the phone was turned on. I'm fairly sure I used to get the correct time when I was on an iPhone. Is this supposed to happen or is there an issue somewhere?
Also, I don't seem to be getting missed calls at all if the phone was off when the call was placed or if the phone was out of signal.
Running ARHD ROM, but I think these issues were happening when I was on stock.
Cheers for any help
That's how it is.. a text while the phone is off will show the time stamp of when the phone is turned on.. also you won't see a missed call notification while the phone is off.

Is this an Android thing? Because I'm fairly certain when I had an iPhone it showed me the time of when the message was sent, not when I turn my phone on. Not the end of the world just inconvinient.
Just to note: Viewing the full details of an SMS shows sent time and received time. However, it seems that the message app sorts messages by the received time. e.g. I have two messages sent half an hour apart while my phone was off. The one that was sent second was received by my phone first and listed below the other SMS in messages. Would be better to have it the other way around IMO.

Lock-ups / Freezes

My GS3 on AT&T with stock ROM keeps having lockup / freeze issues with the stock launcher and email app.
Sometimes when I unlock my phone or hit the home button while in an app the home screen comes up with just a few icons and now icons on the bottom row. It stays like this, unusable and unresponsive, for 20-30 seconds and then the phone seems to reload the launcher and everything is fine.
It is quite a pain.
Also - the stock email app freezes for 30-60 seconds or more after checking my POP account most of the time. It downloads all messages and shows them but freezes and will not let me do anything. I get that wait or force close message after a while. Eventually it starts responding again.
My POP setup has messages left on the server for 3 days so my desktop can always catch up and download the messages permanently. The GS3 email app seems to re-download messages it already received if I delete them too. I am wondering if having 200 - 400 messages on the server is slowing things down even though it downloads the 20-30 new ones pretty quickly.
Any ideas on these lockups?

Have not done a reset....what settings and data are backed up automatically by Google? I'd hate to have to reconfigure everything.
I do have all apps up to date. Phone is not rooted or running any custom ROMS, etc.

Text message notifications disappearing

For the last week or so I've noticed that when I get a text, I get the preview pop up of the text, and then it disappears - along with the notification of the text. It will either disappear immediately or soon after. Sometimes if I have multiple text notifications - and I touch one - the rest will disappear. It also removes the 'unread' badge count on my Nova Launcher bar. This has never happened before, and I'm unsure what could be happening now to cause it. I normally use Textra, but I switched to Android Messages to see if it was an app error but the same thing continued.
I was aware of the Oreo issue where text messages weren't being received, but I'm definitely receiving them. I'm on a Pixel 2 XL now, but this was happening with my Pixel XL last week also. I've tried turning off the battery optimization in case it was acting funky, but that hasn't changed anything. Any ideas?
I am having the same issue. I'm on a Verizon Pixel 2 XL. I get a text, the notification starts to play and then cuts off, not showing an unread notification. I'm getting the text, if I go into Textra it shows the new message, its just marked as read.
Coincidentally, I'm also having an occasional issue where my screen won't wake up and I have to reboot the phone to get the screen to turn back on. Haven't seen anyone having that issue yet either.
I have noticed the same thing on my Nexus 6. I haven't noticed an update to the messages app that corresponds to when this started, but the android wear app updated around the same time, so I was curious if it had something to do with that.
---------- Post added at 09:02 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:48 AM ----------
I just uninstalled the wear app and my notifications don't disappear any more. Unfortunately, I can't use my watch now
Messages notifications are disappearing on my Pixel 2 (non-XL) also. Sometimes they disappear so quickly that I don't even get the partial sound, just a short vibration from the phone.
I also have a Wear device. Haven't tried removing the Wear app, because all other notifications are working correctly, and I depend on them much more than the occasional text I receive these days.
I'm getting this on my Galaxy S8 as well; I was finally able to track this back to the Android Wear app, but as I haven't told it to silence notifications on my phone when connected to my watch, I'm not sure exactly what is causing this bug...

I just noticed that I'm having this problem as well after a few people asked me why I hadn't responded to their texts. I'm sure this used to work fine. Maybe it was broken in a recent update of messages?
Good catch tracking it to Wear. I have figured out the following:
If the watch is on, the text notification gets "eaten up" by the watch and does not show on the phone
If the watch is off, the notification does remain on the phone
If the watch is on but I set it to ignore the "Messages" app notifications, the message shows on the phone
This is pretty annoying as I do like getting notifications on the watch, but of course I don't want them to disappear from the phone. It seems like for the moment, I have to choose between one device or the other.
I opened a bug report at https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/70808796
So I actually think I may have figured out what's happening on my end but still don't know exactly why... I had AT&T NumberSync enabled for my LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, and after disabling that all my text notifications persist like they used to; basically my watch now functions tethered to my phone through a traditional Android Wear connection and will only get notifications once "passed on" from my phone, versus catching the texts via the AT&T network directly with NumberSync.

I have the issue on Nexus 6 and Android wear also. Any solutions to keep both going?
In the Wear app on the phone check to see if "Silence phone while wearing watch" is enabled.

You are a genius! Thanks. This solved my problem (although I think the underlying issue might be different since you are on AT&T).
The winning combo for me (I'm using T-Mobile with "DIGITS with Paired Data") is:
On the watch, settings --> connectivity --> cellular --> advanced --> watch shares number with phone --> calls: on, text messages: off
On the watch, settings --> apps & notifications --> app notifications --> show all --> messages --> off
Since TMo already handles having the watch SIM share my main SIM's number on the network side, there's no need to tell the watch about this. I've confirmed that the following work:
Incoming texts appear (and stay in the notifications) on the phone and watch
I can reply to texts from either device and the "from" number is correct (my main number)
I do not get duplicate notifications on the watch (the watch's messages app's notifications are disabled)
I can place a call from the watch and the correct "from" number appears on caller ID
I can receive a call placed to my main number on either the phone or the watch
