Best way to optimise Zero Lemon 7000 Mah battery? - Galaxy S III Accessories

Hi guys.
Just received the ZeroLemon battery for my s3, and I'm wondering what's the best way to optimise my experience with the battery?
I will follow all the instructions that came with the battery, but want a bit more advise.
My Phone runs on the stock os, since I have been too worried about rooting it, out of fear of bricking the phone. However I notice a lot of people saying they use custom roms on their phones, etc etc. Does this help optimise the battery life, and will rooting my phone and adding a rom provide more battery time for the zerolemon? Or am I fine leaving my phone as it is ?

Pretty sure you can get over 3 days depending on your use with the battery while stock non rooted. Just try it out for a week or two and if you're not impressed with the results try rooting and flashing a debloated stock ROM

Yes, an AOSP rom can REALLY make a difference as opposed to stock TouchWiz

Thanks for the responses guys. Will see how it goes on the stock non rooted and if not will come back here for more advise...

Serious question about flashing ROMs

This is not about how or anything like that. I've flashed my fair share of ROMs for the captivate and my GS2. But after about a year of flashing ROMs and everything it just seems to take a toll on the phones battery life and performance. I just bought a Gnex and it will be coming in probably in a few days but whats your views on this? This is without overclocking, I've never seen a reason for that to be honest. Does this seem to happen with your phones also?

Not if you super wipe every once in a while. I personally don't have to much trouble unless I dirty flash too much, which I do pretty often
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP nightly with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz

I have flashed ROMS across 3 different devices, for over 2 years, and I can say 100% that the opposite has never been true in my case. The main reason I run custom ROMS is to get BETTER battery life and performance. But like everything else, all ROMS are not created equal. And some are terrible.

Maybe your battery is just getting worn, that's what time does. As for performance decrease, that's probably more of an effect of getting used to it. Here's my example, my trans am is fast but if I daily drive it it loses some of the excitement, then I go back to driving my truck, get used to that and my ta seems faster again. Nothing ever changed, it just becomes so normal you no longer experience the "wow" factor.

Serious answer: if you're happy with stock rom then stick with it else go get custom roms, kernels, mods, etc
Happy flashing .. umm, wait .. whatever that makes you happy ofcourse ..

A nexus custom ROM is different than any other model custom ROM because all code is available to build. So they are higher quality and don't have those problems

This is whats I cant wait for, never liked my GS2 after it upgraded to ICS then a jellybean port. Just never performed the way it should have
I've had my GN for a few months and stuck with the stock ROM for about a week before I finally gave in to the temptation to flash a custom ROM/kernel. As others have said it really depends on the ROM/kernel you're flashing and how well it's made. Some will give better battery life while others may end up force closing and rebooting randomly or having wifi issues. I haven't noticed any drop in battery life or performance over the months, in fact it's gotten significantly smoother with JB (running AOKP JB Build 1). I don't think I could go back to stock! xD

As much as I like speed, battery life is the most impottant thing to me. I would loose 20% or more battery with data shut off when i was at work for a 8 hour shift and thats just sitting there

best battery saving rom?

Hello, I'm from Viet Nam
I'm using stock rom
I just had the Galaxy s3 t mobile, but it's so out of battery quickly and very hot, I'm worried that my phone will Perishable because it is too hot.
Length of battery use it so bad, I have to charge it 4 times in one day, it was awful.
please show me the best battery saving rom . Thx.
It depends. You really need to try them out for yourself. Same for kernels, some will be excellent and others might not. Remember that all phones are different. However, you *should* get better battery out of ROMs based on official firmwares (aka Touchwiz).

As no one uses your phone like you do, only you can decide. Make a backup in recovery and flash a couple to decide.
This is why these threads are closed. They can not offer you a real solution as your issue may be caused by something not ROM related.

Note 2 - is battery drain still an issue?

Hi folks, I'm considering buying a used Note 2, but I've read that the 4.3 update has had a negative effect on battery life. Has there been an update since 4.3 which has rectified the problem?
Anyone have an answer to this? I'd like to make a decision ASAP. :good:

I have used many different custom roms of JB and now KK. By freezing unused apps and hibernating user apps, I get a good battery life.
There are other factors you may need to consider, like the age of the phone since battery degrades through time.
I hope others can provide their opinion, goodluck.

[Q] ROMs that enhance battery performance?

I recently bought a used Sprint Galaxy S3, it is the SPH-L710 model.
It works great, I like it, I got it rooted with no problem, and got CWM flashed to it and I'm getting ready to flash a ROM.
I've been searching forums and sites for about 2 days for the ROM I want to use.
I'm mainly looking for something that enhances my battery performance, the reason for this is when I first got the phone, I updated it to the 4.4.2 KitKat when I first turned the phone on and the battery life was terrible, like I would charge it to 100% and use it browsing the web for about 10 mins and lose sometimes upwards of 10+% within that 10 minutes.
I searched around and found 2 Apps that I am using right now, one is a battery doctor type thing, the other is an app called Battery Saver (root) it changes some stuff and is supposed to make battery life better, since I have started using these 2 apps my battery life has increased, but it still seems to drain a little fast. So I would like to try and find a ROM that perhaps has tweaked the battery life.
Does anyone have any opinions on battery life for any of the ROMs here that would work for my device, like perhaps which one that you have tried that extended your battery life? I know I could just try them myself, but I am hoping to save a bit of time and see if anyone has some input.
Also another quick question, is there a way to test my battery and see if its just bad? A friend mentioned that the battery could have just gone bad so I'd like to check that if possible.
A. S3s aren't known for their amazing battery life. My battery does not go very far either, talking on the phone, which I do a lot for work, gobbles up the battery immensely. (Like 100% to 80% in 30 minutes.) Web browsing is another battery hog.
B. ROMs are only going to do so much as far as extending your battery life. Just bear in mind -- the lighter the ROM, the less battery it'll likely consume.
You'll do more to save battery by flashing a custom kernel on top of a light ROM that'll allow you undervolt/underclock. But, you want to make sure you flash the correct kernel to the correct ROM base (e.g. Touchwiz kernel for Touchwiz ROMs, AOSP/CM based kernels for AOSP/CM based ROMs).
I personally use the DKP kernel found here in the S3 original development thread.
Be careful w/ underclocking and especially undervolting, as this can cause the phone to freeze up. It's also important to choose a governor that has a nice balance between performance and power savings. (I like the freelunch governor.)
Hope this helps.

Thanks!
That gives me an idea of what I should start looking for, and I'll check out the DKP kernel as well..
I just thought of another question I had, maybe you can help me with it too.
Since I'm running Android 4.4.2 on my device, would I need to find a 4.4.2 ROM to flash?
For instance could I use a 4.3.1 ROM on my 4.4.2 device?

It doesn't matter which Android version you decide to go with. Just avoid two things:
1. Do not flash an older bootloader than the one you are currently on (e.g. If you are currently on ND8, do not flash any older bootloaders like MK5 or MD4).
2. Do not flash any modems older than the one you're currently on. Your modem version can be found in Settings -->About Phone --> and the last three letter/number combination under "Baseband Version". Hint: The baseband version also tells you which bootloader/ROM you're on.
Doing either of these, will trip Samsung's KNOX security feature, tripping the kill-fuse, and suddenly, you'll have yourself a nice hard brick.
I know that probably sounds intimidating, but I assure you if you avoid those two things, you can flash any D2LTE ROM you please. (D2LTE ROMs will work with the Sprint S3.)
idk man the batter life of my S3 lasts 2 days where my Infuse 4g would last less then one with a new battery.....so by far the best battery life I've had in a while

Wew! Thanks for that info, you may have saved me from a terrible mistake lol.
One of the ROMs I was looking at was using the MD4 bootloader, so that would have been a no-no xD
Thanks a lot for all your help, I learned a few things from it, epspecially about the bootloaders and modems having to match, I had no idea about that. Now that I know that, it opens up a few more possibilities for ROMs I can use!

Fun fact: The bootloaders and modems didn't always have to match.
Samsung wanted to be able to market their devices to business entities, and in order to do that, they developed the KNOX security feature.
Once it's on your phone, it's not coming off. It matters to corporate security policy people, because they want devices that aren't going to be compromised if someone tampers with them.
And, as you can see, the wrong kind of tampering makes the phone completely unusable and unrecoverable.

Right now I'm sort of leaning towards LiquidSmooth, Quantam4, or Tribute ROM, still sort of looking around though.
If you don't mind me asking @Higgs_Boson, which ROM are you using?
Also, to the other poster, my mothers GS3 is the same way, hers will last upwards of a day and a half, then again she doesn;t use hers for much, while I'm on mine like a computer lol.

Right now, I'm on CM11.
I usually switch between two that are my favorites:
CyanogenMod or Paranoid Android.
If you want an all-in-one, there is always PAC-ROM, which includes Paranoid Android, AOKP, and CM all under the same roof. (But then, we get back to that thing about light ROMs.)

personally yes after i replace the system UI with the Stock ND8/NDC one and same with the TW Framework and TWframework-res.apk and use the Stockish theme for it.....i like the stock look what can i say but im using xposed at the same time for little things here and there but if you don't want to replace somethings and want it to work 100% use the PCB theme that it comes with.......but either way its pretty smooth and fast and the battery lasts for 2 days with some gaming and listening to music with viper4android installed and making calls and texting the one thing that i would say drains my battery is watching videos but you'll be satisfied
Wow you arent joking. This is one of the best ive seen lately. Nice.

Wicked X, Tribute and Conquest Singularity are all 3 very good ROMs with pretty fair battery life. As stated, Kernal Settings do make a world of difference! I'm on Singularity with latest KT747 Kernal and love it :]

Question from a new user

So, I just got this phone about 2 days ago (After sending one back due to over heating issues) Anyways, I want to get the most out of my new phone.
So, I have a few questions I can hopefully have answered.
1). I want to know the BEST way to improve my battery life if need be and to avoid any type of heating issues since I am a heavy gamer (Order and Chaos, Brave Frontier, PPSSPP emulator)
2). What is the benefit to rooting my device? Will rooting my device void my warranty, and if so, if I were to unroot, would i still be under warranty?
3). ROMs and Kernels, are they stable? My last device was the Galaxy S4. Ran perfectly never overheated (Got slightly warm, even when hardcore gaming) though. When I installed a ROM (Wicked, Cyanogenmod Android KitKat 4.4.4) to it, it started to overheat from just going on Facebook or about 5 minutes on any game. Continued to overheat even after I flashed back to the Original Stock Rom.
Really loving this device as is right now but would love to learn some new techniques especially when it comes to heating issues or battery drains (So far so good, with the exception that Brave Frontier made my phone really hot earlier when on for about 10 minutes on 100% brightness)
Thanks in advance

1. Best way to improve battery life to is freeze un-needed apps and remove their start-up abilities.
2. The benefits to rooting your device are limited only by your knowledge of the apps and why you are rooting it. It is safe to say your warranty is voided. You should just accept that and move on.
3. It depends on what rom and kernel you intend to run. The Alpha AOSP builds are stable but have known bugs. Zone-Rom is a very stable 10m build that i run on my little brothers phone with no issues. I am currently running stock on a modified kernel and will run the aosp roms on the weekend to get test them. The only heating issues i have ever seen are dependent on the cpu governors. If you are running 100% performance with keeping all 4 cpus on they are going to get hot, simple as that.
Browse through the forums. There is a ton of good information for you here.

Thanks, I have been browsing since this morning. Found a few thins here and there Like Snapdragon Kernel (WHich I am really interested in) , but not really any help in how to even start.
I have a slight problem that has been on my phone since last ngiht when I switched to ART, whenever I start up my phone, estimated battery time left always says around 3 hours at 100 percent, but increases during the day to about 22 hours lol dont know if its really a problem or not though, but I dont think i should be asking that here...
I ask about Rooting because my device is fresh and I still have my waranty just incase something happens to my phone. I want to know if unrooting and going back to original stock will avoi problems if I need to return it.
If you're able to, I would like to be able to learn what rooting method is best and ho to go about getting the SNapdragon kernel on my stock firmware (This was so much easier on my s4 lol)

Use purple drake to root in Android development... It will freeze up and require a battery pull. Once you reboot install supersu from Playstore and twrp manager. Once you have twrp installed, create a back up and then install the zip drive for the kernel. This must be loaded on internal storage. Reboot and enjoy
