Ok when I flash a new ROM and want to do so with a clean slate/wipe, I have titanium backup to back up all my apps, but I'm still kinda unsure of the full procedure as obvious as it may seem... When I did my first wipe, I had to go back and redo all of my information for everything on the phone. Is this typical? What I mean by that is I had to input all my google account info, set up my home screens, set up my facebook app...and turn off all of my sync's...
if you don't wipe, do you have to do all of that? Does a titanium backup on apps/system data allow you to not have to do this?
is this the proper step by step:
1.Titanium backup - apps/system data
2. Rom manager -download rom w/ wipe and back up
3. load rom
4. titanium restore - apps/system data?
Just apps or apps+user data. System data varies from ROM to ROM. Plus, you have no need of multiple copies of system data.

when i flashed to virtuous and did a wipe, i did a backup before of just apps and when i restored apps+user data, it really didn't do anything. I still had to change all the configurations for everything to not sync and to put in username/password...

was shaky on this as well....what is the difference between user and system data? Just would be a pain to lose all layouts and wifi passwords.
I've been doing apps+system data each time and havn't really had any major problems to speak of
my titanium backup doesnt have an option to back up apps+user data... just apps and apps+system data
My bad on an unclear response.. When restoring from TB, it's apps+ user data. You do not want to restore system apps from a different rom. In the scheduling section of TB, There are different configurations you can choose.

Should be the restore desktop htc sense in TB/Restore missing apps+ all system data. That's the only 1 you should pull from there for this.

I just did a restore myself with user apps+data and it had me click 'install' for every app, pain in the ass, anyway to click and go?

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I have a quesition about TB Pro. Today I flashed the CM6 ROM onto my DINC. When I reinstalled the TB Pro app onto the phone from my appmonster folder on the SD Card and opened it up to restore my apps in batch mode, TB Pro would FC whether I was trying to restore apps only, apps+data or even individual apps (not batch mode). Am I doing something wrong, am I misunderstanding how TB Pro is supposed to function, is there an incompatibility?
Try the problems button in titanium and clear its data in the application menu.

I am new to all this with rooting, flashing and so on, and i think it's exciting and awesome, so thanks to all the develepors, and the other guys who keeps this scene running!
I got a few questions about TI backup, that i need answered.. I have searched around the forum for a while, and can't find any exact answers to my questions..
With my phone rooted.. What would you guys go after, the free or the full version of TI backup, and why?
Whats the differences between the free and full?
I have also searched a bit round on the official users guide, and Wiki on TI backups homepage, but it's confusing i think..
And how is it with backup, flashing other roms and so on?
I now have the HoneySense rom flashed, and TI backup..
Can i take a backup of my sms messages, my app's, and their settings, and then flash another rom, and get the **** moved to the new rom?
And how does that work in practice?
- do i have to install TI backup on the new rom after flashing, or is there anyway that it could be installed with the rom, or how works that?
Finally, i got a question about ClockworkMod, since i can't find much information about the app on their homepage..
I got CWM installed,but what is is exactly? Is it somekind of bootloader, or?
And will CWM dissapear from my phone when flashing?
When i flashed to HoneySense, i did it with CWM, but that was also some kind of bootloader?

Titanium Backup Pro has more features included, but i didnt need them already... if you use it to backup and restore your system and apps and you decide to flash a different ROM, you should only restore Apps, not Data... thats a choice you can make in Restore menue... i'm talking about your User-Apps, i never restored System-Apps or Data after a clean install of an ROM...

The Pro version because you can batch restore, otherwise you have to restore apps individually.
You can restore the apps data as well, but not recommended across totally different roms, definitely do not restore system apps and data, anything in red. This might include SMS data (red), up to you to try. Other alternatives would be use other app such as GoSMS Pro (free) Edit: has backup option, or My Backup Root.
There might be a chance of force closes etc, if you've not followed the above, but never heard of anyone actually bricking their device. Worst case is having to restore a full backup made in ClockworkMod Recovery.
I use both CWM and TB Pro prior to flashing any new ROM. Also keep a copy on the PC just in case the sdcard has a bad day.
Don't forget to wipe dalvik cache in CWM after TB restore and reboot. It may take a few minutes to boot up, but don't worry.
If your Market doesn't show all your apps, try deleting market cache, reboot clearing dalvik, and use TB Pro to "restore market links" found somewhere in the menu. If still doesn't show all, TB recommends try downloading a new app then check again.
Edit: CWM is just a custom recovery. Has many more options than stock, allowing a full system backup and restore, also known as a nan / nandroid backup, similar to a ghost / image of your system. Can be used and updated through an app called ROM Manager, which is really just an interface / GUI for CWM (among other things).

I only got a sec or I'd answer more ????s.
I use the paid version simply cuz after using the free for so long and it saving me so much time and grief, i felt it only right to buy the full version. Plus the dev (joel) is awesome at direct support. Plus, on full version, you can make multiple backups of an app (for newer versions, etc) .
I would use a diff app for backup texts. Sms backup/restore is good, and free. And that way, you wont have to restore system app and data with Ti (which can cause issues)
Also, I Dont use CWM, I use amonRA, but yes, you will still have it after flashing a new rom, kernel, or theme. It is on a partition that goes untouched across flashes.

Additionally:
Most custom roms have TB Free, but you will need to restore your Pro key first and reboot, that is if you want to batch restore the rest of your apps and or data etc. Otherwise it's one by one.

The CWM is a recovery tool.. So that if something goes wrong in a flash, i can recover by using CWM?
And to do that, i will need to take a Rom Backup, in CMW..
When i press the Backup Rom button i CWM, my phone restarts and boots into CWM interface, and backs up everything.. Where is that file stored, so i can move to my pc, and have the backup an extra place?
About the market problem.. I do almost only have paid apps, so when i login to market with my google account, they automaticly shows up under my bought app's..

You can wipe dalvik cache from a menu within CWM Recovery, or several apps, including TB . TB / Menu / More / .....
Just backup using menu inside CWM Recovery or from within ROM Manager (uses CWM Recovery) before flashing any ROM. So if you don't like the new Rom or have issues, you can boot into recovery and restore.
Most custom ROMs have an advanced power menu allowing you to reboot directly into CWM Recovery, or you can from ROM Manager or from the Bootloader menu.
All CWM Recovery backups are saved to the sdcard / clockworkmod / backup

Titanium backs up your apps and app data and some system data. While recovery backs up/restores your current ROM image, meaning back up will restore everything up to the second you backed up even the way you place your apps

Hi... Like everybody here, I love to try new roms, versions, etc... The problem is that everytime we full wipe our phone, we obviously lose everything.
I was looking for some tools to help me to backup/restore my apps (including swype, which seems impossible to backup) quickly. Titanium backup can't restore automatically... What about Rom toolbox pro? Worth it?

There's always cwm which will backup whole ROM it includes apps and data, combined with titanium you can restore phone back to stock.
Cwm will not back up automatically.

Titanium Backup up is simply the best. Also My Backup Root is worth trying.
Titanium is good but the noisy thing about it that you should press install for every app you restore.
if u tried Titanium Backup Pro you wouldn't ask expect for auto restore

Sorry mate you are wrong with pro version you can select batch option sand restore all system or user apps with data is available.
Select option key then select batch.

I heard that titanium backup should not be used when changing to a new ROM.
Is it true? If so, why?
Another question, if I don't use titanium backup to backup everything but just a few user data(like the save of games), and I don't backup the app, just simply the user data, is it okay then?
It doesn't matter if you are changing roms or whatever it just backs up apk files and data folder so it will work on every rom without any problems.
It's better to take the 'app' from playstore after flashing a new Rom..sometimes titanium can get stuck at 'Restoring app data'..happened with me with twice..

I regularly backup all user and system data.
When you go to a new ROM though, its quite fine to restore ALL user apps+data
But when it comes to system apps, I always go through them individually and restore what necessary - some system apps/data may conflict with the new ROM system apps/data.
This is my experience...could be bull**** lol

The best way is restore apps without data, reboot then restore data. I've been doing it that way since my x10 running donut...
If changing to another rom only restore user data/apps. Don't restore system apps data as it may cause probs.
I use titanium backup on my arc and n7 tablet have the same apps etc and always send titanium data between the 2 devices with out any issues.

Titanium backup will do the trick but sometimes when restoring old data I've had some issues with lots of force closes and some other unexplainable strange things going on. It's best to start fresh on a new rom.
Titanium backup is your answer
If you back up apps and data from your personally installed apps, restoring should not cause any problems. If you try to backup and restore system apps and data across different roms (ie tw and aosp), you're likely to experience some problems.
When it comes to system data, it can be hit or miss. Generally the only thing that will likely break is contacts, as each provider (samsung, htc) puts their own spin on it, and it tends to not be compatible. but if you use google to store your contacts, you should be golden. After some time you'll know which parts are compatible across all roms (within the same version family).
So, backup everything you want to keep. And make a full nandroid.
Install your new rom.
Restore your personal apps and data (like angry birds)
Make sure everything is golden.
Make a nandroid
One by one, restore any system data you want (like accounts, wifi access points, mms).
After each one, go through a reboot cycle, make sure everything works.
Nandroid and restore next system data
This way you can easily back out of a restore that breaks something without having to start over again. And you will get a feel for what's restorable and what isnt.
Beware changing back to 4.1 from 4.2. There are threads on this worth reading.
And, yes, nandroid will restore everything just like you had it, assuming you choose to backup -everything- (which is advisable).

Titanium backup works like charm..but u can restore from nandroid backup too..just install nandroid manager app from play store and restore all ur data including call logs, sms n everything!!

Through philz CWM I'm currently having 3 roms in my back up. After installing a new rom, I just restore data and all my games data comes back without any problem.
