I've used a couple of modified MMS apk's and nothing seems to help. I first noticed while sending screenshots. Then for testing, I sent myself a few full size photos taken with the camera. Still look like crap.
Is there a way to fix this? Is there an AOSP messaging app I should be using? I've had all the galaxy phones, all the nexus phones and I recall, I think, that I used to use an aosp MMS apk to resolve my issue. I'm currently using a modified tw mms apk that claimed to increase file size limits, other limits, etc.. Maybe I'm misunderstanding.
Any help towards reaching the goal of high quality, not low res/pixelated MMS messages would be greatly appreciated. Stock TW would be nice but not adverse to using aosp MMS.
Thank you for your time.

im pretty sure picture messages are compressed before they are sent, which means a downgrade in quality.
How much of a downgrade is normal? someone else should be able to answer that better then me

Yeah i wanna know too. Nottach/Wanam used to have the option for max mms size but its been removed for a while. Though i remember when i set it to the highest my mms didnt get delivered. It depends on both carriers involved. Damn txt sucks

I agree.
They look so bad, I won't even send MMS anymore. Today I emailed a couple of pictures to a friend. Which is horribly inconvenient for the recipient.

I guess it depends on how the Rom is tweaked. Mms pictures work fine on the wicked Rom.

Does anyone have a remedy to this? My phone takes amazing pictures and videos and we all know that but it says shrinking for mms and after i send it my picture clarity is horrible and u cant see much. Im wondering if there is a way to stop this?? Thanks all!!

This is more a function of your carrier than your device. The carriers have set limits to the size mms they will let you send.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I understand that and im actually a sales rep. My evo and 3d and any other phone with a good camera never downgraded the pictures nearly as much as my epic touch. It takes the quality down way past what it should.
Sent from my Sammy Epic Touch using XDA App
I find if I take the picture in a lower megapixel like 640x480, there is no degradation in image quality once sent via mms. Kinda defeats the purpose, i know, but it is what it is.....
Just email the pic to your friends/families phones. The [email protected](insert carrier).com That may produce better quality since the wont compress the pic.
I rarely mms pics anymore unless it is to a someone with a dumb/feature phone. I either email or send a link to my picasa album.
Use a third party app like handcent or Go SMS.. I customized my handcent app to look just like the stock epic touch SMS app because I like that look.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Use either a 3rd party app like the lerson above me states. Or use dropbox, upload the pic 2 dropbox, m copy n public link, n send that link to whomever

its definitely something on the software side not the carrier side

I agree some of our amazing devs have to be able to do something about it. No way it has to be that hard to send a good pic on this phone

This is a pretty common issue with many android phones. Because of the 1mb mms limit the phones must compress the picture. For some reason they seem to like to compress them down to uner 100kb insted of just under 1mb. I dont know if there's any way to fix this other than to take smaller pictures so there wont be any compression.
I was poking around my.tmobile.com and I thought, let see what would happen if I changed my phone to something else. Maybe tmo is compressing MMS based on what type of phone you have in your account.
So I switched over to the HTC Amaze 4G and sent myself a pic that I knew was blurry previously when sent.
Result?
Clear and crisp on Juggernaut 4.1 with Faux 007r2.
Someone else try it please!
I went in and changed to amaze4g and still get blurry mms on dewizzed. Not juggs but we use the same base.
I'm using faux 007r2 as well.

My girl has my gs2 now. She has the old sim and she gets mms perfect on 2.3.6. Just throwing that out there. Its definitely a network thing.

I'm using GoSMS on Dewizzed and it is working fine for me.
Even sent a few pics to myself and from my girls Moto Triumph on VirginMobile phone before I installed GoSMS and after. Before was all blurry and coming in at less than 10kb, and now I get nice a clear 100+kb pics.
On GoSMS Settings, I put MMS Size to 1.2MB and checked preserve image quality.
Also checked "Stock MMS Uninstalled" (even though I still have it installed)
thats because 3rd party sms apps work fine. read, and we are talking about stock sms app..

I have seen this issue mentioned back when i had a vibrant. Funny thing is that I've never experienced it. Definitely agree its a network issue. Or people just are really picky. Btw I have never used third party apps.

Did it work out for you to, or just me?
So every time I send a screencap people always tell me the text is blurry and can't read it. Today I tried sending the same pic but used handcent and the quality was a whole lot better. Anybody knows why the stock messaging compresses mms into such a bad quality? It's not noticeable on pictures of ppl or things just when sending a picture with text on it. Hmm?

Yes. Unfortunately you have to run something like go SMS and change the send size if u want crisp mms.
Or email em

I don't know if this occur to me as well but i can tell you that when i send an MMS it just stays like "on a loop" (Sending it) like FOR HOURS!!! It's insane, & yes, I'm running stock for now just to know how the phone works by himself without any tweaks... (I'm not giving it much time now, I've heard A LOT OF AWESOME THINGS & ROMS in here; so please don't judge me ...)
Is there something that I need to change for this
I guess I can email them about it. Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like you need to call Sprint and have them refresh your data connection. Mine sends them in like 1-3 seconds.

Is there any way to get the stock messaging app to automatically change the file name when saving an mms? It promts me every time telling me to rename it or else it will overwrite the last one... Not the end of the world, but incredibly irritating.

I have the same problem, you can continue naming each individual picture with numbers you just randomly think of, its rare I repeated the same number. Or download a third party app like Handscent or Go SMS which just downloads the MMS without worrying about a particular designation. Every once in awhile you run across a Touchwiz rom that doesn't have this problem, but its usually a ASOP rom that just downloads MMS without this problem.

That's about what I figured. I used to use handcent but the stock app has made leaps and bounds over the years so I like sticking with that. I've been doing the random letters after going to save it, but in you ef up and do by chance pick something you already used, it will overwrite it.

Any update or solution to this issue? From what I remember my Samsung Epic 4G did not have this problem, as a matter of fact it did exactly what we are trying to get the Galaxy S3 to do by default. I find that this should have not been an issue, why on earth would someone NOT think to make this a basic function/feature?....
I'm sick of using Samsung's built in message app. It's max mms file size limitation and mms slideshow viewer are as irritating as can be.
I have tried GO SMSPro and looked into Handcent SMS, but both apps seem to be bloated with unnecessary "features" such as theming, and stores. I just want a basic stock(ish) experience. I have downloaded Cyanogen mod and Xperia mms apps and attempted to rename, replace and set permissions to no avail. It seems as if android doesn't recognize them at all.
I finally did find the stock android messaging app in a thread dedicated to the Note 2, but it seems a little... too basic for my tastes.
Any help would be appreciated.

Which carrier are you on? Because if it's att you are limited to 600kb. You could set the mms file limit size to 1 gig if you wanted but you are still limited by what the network will allow to pass through.. I haven't found a way to bypass the network limitations either pal

I feel the same way you do, I've tried so many but nothing to my liking. The Cyanogenmod mms.apk is the best but when I installed that over the stock one everything worked but it would crash trying to send a pic.
I've found one that isn't too bad, it's clean, small and fast. Try out Textra, you might like it.
