CWMR 6.0.3.7 - need testers - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hey there
Here is a 6.0.3.7 cm10.1 source built cwmr for people who are willing to test out the restore function. I need my phone in functioning order until Saturday until I can test it myself but figured this might help people in the meantime.
Features:
Touch interface
Large fonts for easier use
Rebuilt kernel to remove root protections so adb shell functions as expected
I have tested filesystem mounts and backups and everything there works fine, but I am waiting on stock firmware to download and some free time to be without a device if restore borks things. Flashing the stock rom via odin will fix issues due to restore if there are any, but I need some willing users. If no one can I will do it myself this weekend.

Flash with heimdall, the stock rom does not overwrite recovery on this device.
Here is an untested ODIN compatible tar (I dont use windows) but it should flash fine, contains the above image:

Thanks to Dees Troy for the dtb tips.
edit: sounds like restore is derped in all the recoveries so far so I'm going to work on it this weekend and get a fix up when it's ready. Seems like perhaps the way /system is restored is causing grief.

I'm picking up a Note 3 in about an hour, if I have time this evening I'll give it a try.

Thanks, I'm hoping the new kernel might address the restore problems others have mentioned on different recoveries for hlte, I need logs from people to do much else until Saturday.

Will test as soon as I get the phone. You'll most likely have other testers before I can though:/

If anyone tests this and break their phone, this is how you fix it.
Step one: Reboot back into CWM recovery (TWRP also works, if you feel like flashing that)
Step two: format data (you have to format, NOT wipe. wiping won't do it). Again, this works in either recovery.
Step three: wipe cache/dalvik/data
step four: download and odin flash a stock image
And your Note 3 should boot again and you won't be soft bricked for 3 1/2 hours like I was
Some good news. Builds 2 and 3 can restore and boot, but lead to a lot of force closes....for those who wanna know

All, the issue is most likely with selinux being enforced in the kernel and tar not backing up the metadata properly during the backup process.
I am working on a fix now, but no recovery will work properly for the time being, stay tuned.

What about those people who's restoring and backup is working properly?

will this cwmr work on the Canadian SM-N900W8?

Not possible atm with CWMR, but could very well be working with TWRP.
CWMR is missing the underlying technology to make restore possible on an selinux enforcing device at the moment.

It wont assert right even if it does flash and boot. W8 might use a different dtb blob too, so I would recommend against flashing this period on a non t-mobile device.
Once I can get CWMR working, I will make more variants for all the other users, but the tmo device is what I have and am testing against.

I want to root my device. I read cf auto root thread and it seems easy enough. I always used cwm on all my previous devices. Is cwm working on the note 3 from this post? Which cwm do I install?

[ROM][RESTORE][5-12-13]Back to UNROOTED Stock with Auto Flash Count Reset

Did this for the Galaxy SIII and figured I would do the same for the Note II as well.
This will take your phone back to UNROOTED stock as well as restore the STOCK RECOVERY, STOCK KERNEL, MC2 RADIO and FIRMWARE. It Will also RESET THE FLASH COUNT to no (0) and restore the official binary and system status as well. If you have updated to MK4 officially and have the MK4 KNOX bootloader with the "knox warranty void" status in download mode, this will REMOVE but NOT RESET it. So this is still perfect for a trip to the sprint store. Does exactly what an odin flash would without needing a PC. And unlike odin this gives you the ability to downgrade flawlessly from ANY firmware version. This is the ONLY way to come back from the dreaded knox upgrade.
NOW FOR THE INSTALL:
NOTE THAT FOR THIS TO BE POSSIBLE THIS MUST RUN COMMANDS THAT MOST ROM FLASHES DO NOT USE.
DUE TO THIS, USING GOO MANAGER AND ROM MANAGER TO INITIATE THE FLASH CAN CAUSE ISSUES. PLEASE MANUALLY BOOT TO RECOVERY AND START THE FLASH THERE.
As with most roms wipe data/factory reset prior to flashing!
I have always been a fan of clockworkmod recovery myself, but if using this I must recommend TWRP. On rare occurances, clockworkmod recovery has corrupted the cache partition when flashing this, causing issues with the second part of this restore. So use cwm at your own risk.
When finished you hit reboot as you would at the end of any rom flash but before the phone boots into the system it will automatically boot into my "special" version of TWRP and finish the process.(Which takes about 10 seconds).
When this is done you will be completely unrooted and back to square one with the exception of the internal sd card. (It will NOT be touched) So if you want to remain rooted then flash THIS (or click the little su guy below) after the restore zip before you reboot.
As far as I know there is only a 16gb version of the Note II for Sprint. If I'm wrong on that please correct me and note that this is ONLY TO BE USED ON A 16GB SPH-L900. This will most likely brick any other phone. And as always, FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK. As I am not responsible if this makes your phone melt. This flashes important partitions so verifying the md5 is recommended. Think that about covers it.

I was able to activate and update prl n profile but was still getting the chameleon force close if /carrier wasn't wiped before the flash. Seeing as how twrp doesn't have that option and most people prefer it over cwm, I am currently uploading a new version which will wipe the carrier partition too. With carrier wiped, coming back from lk8 was flawless

You probably dl'd it before I fixed it. It originally had a typo that caused the count and system status to not reset. It has since been fixed.

[TUTORIAL] How To Root the Sprint Galaxy S2 (SPH-D710)

I was recently asked to post some threads here on XDA with the tutorials I have on my site. As time permits I will be posting a series of threads here to the Q&A section that will hopefully answer most questions that might come up.
If you can't find your answer in one of my threads I would highly recommend BluesRulez One Stop FAQ Thread. It is an awesome resource and has answers to just about every question I've seen come up!
__________________
This thread details the process of how to root your device without having to flash a full stock ROM. This method works for the Sprint, Boost and Virgin Samsung Galaxy S2 (SPH-D710, SPH-D710BST and SPH-D710VMUB).
This method uses an Odin One-Click Kernel to install a kernel that includes a Custom Recovery. Once booted into the Custom Recovery you can then flash Superuser which will root your phone and give you Superuser access.
Prerequisites:
A PC running Windows with the Samsung Mobile Drivers Installed. The Samsung Mobile Drivers are available here.
Any One-Click Kernel (preferably from the Android version you will be using, i.e. GB, ICS or JB).
All Sprint One-Click Recovery kernels can be found here.
For this particular tutorial I used the following kernels:
Gingerbread: Chris41g's EL26 Stock CWM5 Repack
Ice Cream Sandwich: Agat63's tFI27 Stock Recovery Repack (rev 2)
Jelly Bean: Agat63's Source-Built GB27 Recovery
Superuser (or SuperSU, MIUI Security, and etc) in a flashable zip, saved on your Internal or External SD Card.  For this method I used SuperSU v1.25 (but any SU in a flashable ZIP should work). You can download several different versions here.
Although not required it is recommended that you have Samsung Kies installed on your PC as well. You can download Samsung Kies here.
Side-Effects:
This method will trigger the Yellow Triangle upon start-up and will increase your Odin count.
It will also change your startup screen to look like the International GS2 startup screen.
Both of these side-effects are very easy to overcome due to the hard work of Chainfire and Garwynn. You can get TriangleAway from Chainfire's thread here.
For the rest of the tutorial please visit my site: www.rwilco12.com
Enjoy!

You might have to turn SU on depending on which version you flashed. Open the app and see if under settings you see something like "Enable SuperUser" and make sure it's enabled.
If that doesn't fix it we may need to try another zip with a different set of symlinks. Either way, we're here for you and will get you squared away.

If you're asking - Can I flash VM builds on the Sprint D710, the answer is - yes. Did it when I tested the builds and everything worked properly.
If you're asking - Can I flash a VM build and be on VM service? Obviously you'll need to be activated to their service and provisioned properly. That's when you'd need to make sure that mmsc/apn/nv data is captured. I don't know if VM is a byod provider. (write that shiz down)

Yes. Many, many people have used this method successfully.
There's nothing wrong with a stock kernel, it just doesn't have a custom recovery packed into it or any kernel tweaks.
But I am confused... If you're already rooted why are you pulling your hair out?

K. Before you dive in too much further I would recommend doing a little more research. This device had had issues in the past that have made it very easy to brick. You should be very careful.
As a side note - This thread is a how to root thread but it sounds like you're already rooted. I don't know that there's any reason to reroot your device. You don't actually have to be rooted to get on JB either. You could just flash a one-click of a JB ROM.

ZV8 to ZVA Modified OTA (Flash in TWRP)

Thanks to everyone working on the OTA, such as Savoca and Autoprime checking the OTA status.
The ZVA update has a lot of good and some bad things. I've "tinkered" with Samsung OTAs before and gotten them to flash but there was always a problem with Sprint's Chameleon implementation on Samsung that caused things not to behave the same when flashing the modified zip.
Fortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case with LG. :good:
So here are two ZIPs for your use. Use at your discretion and as usual, I give my standard disclaimer: Your phone, your flash, your responsibility.. not mine.
Link to ZIPs:
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Garwynn Projects/LS980/ZV8toZVA
Why two versions? Both skip recovery and revert aboot image so that Loki can still work.
But during first set of tests I received an assert error on magazines.odex.
If you get this try the second one, in which I removed that assert and update.
If you get a build.prop assert error on the second you'll want to try and find yourself a stock version and flash again.
For me I had to do the TOT again to get it to work.
Now the other bits of information:
1) Both remove the device assert because TWRP doesn't use that model ID. So make sure you only use this on the SPRINT model.
2) I do recommend taking a backup before as I had some funky results after the update. One time system disappeared... another time took especially long to restart. After doing a second time it does seem to be working properly. So may not hurt to back up right after flashing the zip so that you have a good copy of ZVA to work off of.
3) You can stay rooted and you do not need to re-root afterwards. The first time I got a prompt from SuperSU to update the su binary, but not the second time. In either case root was not checked during OTA so you don't need to mess with it.
Any questions feel free to let me know. Again thanks to all and enjoy!
(Added 10:50 CST)
I want to also caution one thing at the moment. Those wanting to keep using AOSP ROMs should not flash ZVA at the moment.
At the moment it's causing a boot loop and several of us are trying to figure out what the cause is.
Awesome! Testing this now, I'll post my own results too.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using xda app-developers app
One other precaution because it seems a person just bricked testing radio packages...
Don't be a hero. If it's acting up, go back to recovery and restore a backup or flash the ZV8 TOT.
Updates are cool and everyone wants it, but it's not worth bricking over.

I am "assuming" by the stock statement you meant stock odex rom but figured I'd ask just to make it crystal clear for all. As we've seen in the last 24hr, crystal clear is very much needed.

If I flash it again today I'll pull it.

Only question I can come up with is should folks be on stock rooted ODEX rom before doing this or is ANY rooted ODEX/DEODEX rom ok? If you don't know one way or the other, what where you on when you did it?
I am "assuming" by the stock statement you meant stock odex rom but figured I'd ask just to make it crystal clear for all. As we've seen in the last 24hr, crystal clear is very much needed.
Thanks!

Sorry, didn't clarify the second. I tried stock odex ROM and didn't work. That's why I went the TOT route.
Wasn't able to flash. I got a bunch of asset errors.

yes stock rom with twrp
Flashed from stock rom with TWRP 2.6.3.3 using testupdate.zip with no issues. Did not need to use update 2.
If someone that has NOT ran this yet could, please post or PM me their build.prop from the stock + TWRP rom before doing the update?
Thanks:good::good:

Don't be a hero. If it's acting up, go back to recovery and restore a backup or flash the ZV8 TOT.

From all the all roms I have seen, its not available yet...
And as for the patch I was thinking of trying it but im afraid of bricking my phone. You can flash that rom as long as the rom doesnt install two files( which are carrier related). I just cant remember what files. Just read in that thread and look for those files. when u download the rom use root explorer and check that the rom doesnt have them in there.
Let me know how it goes ?

I tried but never got past boot screen. Op states it needs the knox bootloader and firmware/radio. I will keep trying but it has not been an easy port.

So to confirm, you tried the patch at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086394 and you got stuck on the flashing Samsung logo? Me being the noob that I am, I (stupidly) decided to simply go ahead and flash the N7100 version on my L900 following the instructions for the N7100 (original) varient. It of course bricked me, never got anything beyond the flashing Samsung logo, just does that forever until I pulled the battery.
However, by attempting to flash it I seem to have created other problems and here's where I'm stumped. I am now unable to restore my TWRP Nandroid I made of my stock rooted MK4 before flashing, restoring that results in getting stuck at the flashing Samsung logo (again). It doesn't matter what options I restore in TWRP (System, Boot, Data, etc) it has the same result: the flashing Samsung logo forever and ever and ever. I read somewhere that 4.4 (the DN3 ROM) messes with partitions because it enables multi user support...could that have anything to do with it? The only way I have been able to get my device back working is flashing stock unrooted MD4 TAR through Odin. I'd really rather not start from scratch though on my settings and everything though, and the only backup I have is that Nandroid, no Titaniums or anything else. Can you help me restore the Nandroid or is it a lost cause?

Did that...still results in flashing Samsung logo hang up when I restore the Nandroid with TWRP . I really haven't the slightest clue why this is happening, as my phone is currently running stock unrooted MK4 flashed from ODIN just fine.

Well I haven't installed Philz recovery yet, but considering my Nandroid was made with TWRP will Philz even see it? The only reason I ask is because IIRC Philz is based off of TWRP, no? What I'm getting at here is that I'm pretty sure Nandroids from different recoveries, for example CWM and TWRP are completely incompatible right?
If I can't restore the backup I made from TWRP in Philz am I dead in the water? If so, I guess I learned my lesson, that is to have a contingency plan such as Titaniums in place (particularly for settings). I guess I really didn't expect a Nandroid to just fail spectacularly...if TWRP really is completely borked up with backup/restore on 4.3 it would be nice if they had a warning somewhere in the recovery or on their site. I would think that would be kind of important to know before you try to use a backup made using their recovery...

Okay lets cover the backup types first. Philz will backup/restore in both twrp and cwm format but you have to select the option. Now about your backup it will still be no good since it was created with twrp.

[Q] Remove Knox Security//

Hello s3 users i just upgraded to this phone and it came with 4.1.2 so i rooted it of course and next thing you know my 3yr old somehow updated phone to 4.3:crying::confused i still have root but if i uninstall knox security will it jack my phone up or brick it also is the bootloader locked or not on this model just need clarfication.or do i just use xda member cLogic instructions and reroot and remove knox..
I'm not too sure but if I recall correctly this doesn't stop you from rooting. Anyone else care to chime in with your expertise? @DocHoliday77
Edit : upon reading the thread by cLogic I'm sure this works. It sounds logical, and his method makes sense and others have posted in the thread. Make sure you follow the instructions properly.

Bootloader is not locked, and the easiest way to get rid of knox imo is to flash the root66 firmware. There are flashable scripts out there that do so as well, but ive never used em so I dont know how thorough they are.

No need to use any removal method if your going to flash a rom. Afaik all roms already have it removed. But if you want to remain on your current build but remove knox, yes flash the removal as per instructions where you find it. (I think theres one in AT&T forums that might be easier to find).

ok..so i uninstalled with knox removal zip.Im running 4.3 ota rooted twrp 2.6.3 can i install any t999 rom or only 4.3+ up because i seen somewhere on here you cant install older builds because the bootloader on 4.3 dont play well with older builds
You can flash older roms just fine. As for if they'd be better or worse on 4.3 firmware I'm not sure. Should be ok though, depending on how old you want to go. The further back, the more likely it is you might see some issues, but not many have done this so I can't say for sure.

Well i also tried to flash a different rom using twrp 2.7.0 t999 4.3 and got the same error??and also where could i find a good editing script tried 7zip but it came with malware so had to delete.I really like cm and want to try.
Use Notepad++ for editing the script. Get it here: http://notepad-plus-plus.org/
Get 7-zip from here: http://7-zip.org
Not sure where you got yours if it says its malware. I've been using it for years with zero issues and believe it can be trusted. Just extract the contents of the rom, find the updater-script in the meta-inf folder tree and edit with notepad++. Also delete the signatures if they are present (3 files in the meta-inf folder). Some roms have them, some dont. CM probably does.
There are many roms out there that have not been updated to include the latest firmware builds. You more than likely got another one like it.
