[Q] Preload Folder... plus to full to install apps? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey guys, I have the L900, but my girlfriend with the E4gt was asking me to upgrade hers. I had her on Dirty Unicorn running great, but I switched over to volt and added the blasphemy kernel.
I noticed that the camera wasn't working, and that the gallery was force closing which is probably just the graphics mod I have on there, but my real problem is that I can't install user apps because it is saying it's full, even though it's not.
I went looking through thinking that maybe something happened to the Sd card, and it looks like there is a preload folder i've never seen or heard of before. So I'm not sure what to do or if anything else I do will mess the phone up. So before I go anywhere either recovery or odin wise I wanted to check the forums but I havent been able to find anything using the search terms im using either with google or xda.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks everyone!

I had seen this earlier but couldn't think of any fix... after reading it again I see that you have the blasphemy kernel.. I would imagine you're using the latest version...
Kick back to version 2 of the blasphemy kernel and see if that fixes it..
I seen some problems it was causing in a different rom thread... the issues were different, but it seemed in that thread ( illusion rom )some members had problems...some didn't.. Worth a try.. Let me know...
Good Luck..

Check the md5 sum to make sure it wasn't a bad download also.
Slithering from the nether regions of a twisted mind and tarnished soul

Good call stryke...
Man I totally didn't think of that... I'm such a noob..

The preload partition is only used in JB TouchWiz by the way, if it didn't get wiped it may be causing your problems.

Thanks All!
Thankz All,
I decided to just flash back to "Dirty Unicorn's" w/ "Blasphemy 6". All is well now, so not a hundred percent sure, but it could have been a few things. I had recently switched to twrp, or it could have been the preload folder like the above stated because it was still there... but I also had flashed a few tweaks I use like Team Kernelizers | Operation Killjoy™ | RC7 | Insanity, ◢ PurePerformances™X ◣ | Golden Edition | Scary performances on Android,PenberEngine v1.3,[SCRIPTS][GB/ICS/JB] LOVINS THE AIO TWEAKS [ALL IN ONE TWEAKS][GP/F1 Series], INFINITY Engine 2.1 Super Edition | fly up your phone !, v6 supercharger,or...UNLIMITED™tweaks[18.11.2012][MORE POWER].
I couldn't remember exactly which ones I had used, but I assume ◢ Pure™Graphics HD + Rendering Version ◣ | Enjoy your graphics, was what was causing the camera from working, because when I downloaded one it worked but would crash. Plus I think I may have created an extra EXT somewhere in there...
None the less, I got her on the "Dirty Unicorns" with PurePerformances, and Infinity Engine 2.1 along with a few other things from here and there, and I couldn't be happier with it so far. Battery did great the past two nights, zero lag even under very harsh circumstances and the screen quality is greatly improved.
I didn't mention all that before because I couldn't remember the exact tweaks used and that'd be cruel to expect people to clean up a mess like along with I was more looking to see if there was any known changes between the two roms I wasn't able to find though google and xda searches, like with my L900 when I switch to an AOSP 4.2.2 from 4.1.2 our internal gets hid, it's still accesible but hidden, if you wanna go back to 4.1.2 someone created a zip to restore everything otherwise I think it gets written over, plus the newly created internal you used with 4.2.2 turns into just a folder that you can restore everything from. So I was curious if there was something like that going on.
Good looking though, you guys do great work, my girl'z E4gt would be a paper weight by now had it not been for all the detailed break down of the emmc problems.

[VZW][Rom+Kernel] VZW EFO1 Better Than Life Confidence and Paranoia V2.0 Released 814

A....is for Apple
Updates
Gingerbread for Verizon, with 3G, and Full Root, and De-bloated. Also did TouchWiz 4.5. Oh, its the real Deal, the real Verizon EFO1 Gingerbread base.
Worked alot on this the past few days, trying to get it out as a suprise to you Verizon guys by thursday, but man.....my back and arms are killing me, had to take some breaks.
Before the details.....
I need to get on a knee here and thank DirtyDroidX, and P3Droid. Because if it wasnt for them, I wouldnt have this build, I would be releasing a hacked Sprint GB with a half working 3G. Also, Spacemoose for his continuing support, and help with the Kernel, recovery, the questions, the calls, it never ends for that poor guy.
I want everyone to go out, and buy the Team BlackHat app TODAY as a thankyou to them for delivering this much needed resource to me, and Donate to DirtyDroidX, and to Spacemoose, they all pitched in alot of work. Im serious, get the TBH app, donate to me some other day. Im doing this for you, not the money.
Ok, details.
This is EFO1.
Verizons Gingerbread.
This is not so much a leak (though it could be considered a leak by me, im not leaking it) This IS the EFO1 that TBH has released today, however, I worked it so much that P3Droid agreed that it is my build, so I felt confident and not paranoid ( lol ) about releasing my build today.
What did I do?
Debloated
53 pieces of CRAPWARE EFF YOU Verizon!!
TouchWiz 5
Full 100% without question Root (damn, it was a ***** to, however i cant believe my newb ass did it)
FULL working 3G !!!!!!!!
Version 1.0 of Confidence and Paranoia is running the Stock VZW Kernel and Recovery. Spacemoose is working on a Kernel Fix for this right now. As it stands, its Either 3G on Stock Kernel+Root, or Custom Kernel+Recovery and Root, I decided the 3G was more important
Seriously, donate to those guys, by the app, so my relationship continues to be good with them and I can get stuff like this, as it is, I am giving them all the source material they want from this, so dont be surprised if this is on the TBH soon.

If you like my work, feel free to donate.[/QUOTE]
Special Thanks go to..
Spacemoose, for his sexy phone voice, and constant answer to my unorthodox ways of doing things.
DirtyDroidX, for giving me the Leak to leak, and build what we now have
Fr4gg0r, for allowing me to use his TouchWiz 4.5 in my build, without his secondary apps, and allowing me to theme it. I left his donate button in the app.
Did I mention Dan, Spacemoose, Dan the man, man dan is the man. There, that kills off any chance of someone other than a newb thinking DAN is a chick. LOL
Thought I would tease yall with progress from the update I am working on.....

No, but coming, and FYI, this is the fastest, smoothest Rom I have had to date, its my daily now for sure.
works great
Well, all my market apps are back on, so far everything working nicely. Even Netflix.
Even Intuits GoPayment app works. Its very finicky with the card swiper. The stock kernel is great. I suspect when we get the overclocked kernel, things will fly even faster!
Once I do a backup from Spacemooses rom should this be an easy install?

I will never release a flashable zipped product again. I find flashing with heimdall so much easier, stable, and I know it works. Plus I can drop in just specific files right away. And it cuts my dev time in half.

Having same issue with TW (was having it with the last build based from the Sprint update also). Freezes up when you long press the homescreen.
Great work though. Loving this rom, for sure the best rom to date for the VZW tab.

Did you guys do a full Wipe right after install?. I installed this on a few tabs back and forth ranging from Froyo installs to this, including the Sprint Rom im working on as well.
Also, I noticed the past few weeks, Gingerbread doesnt like SDCards for some reason, its a pain in my ass as my card is a 32GB, but I formatted the card prior to flashing so i would have a fresh SD Card. But I also have like 12TB on my computer to toss an SDcard onto. Sucks to, slow cards.
hey jim for soe reason im not getting 3g on the new release i did everything to the T but nothing any ideas? might that me a modem issue?

Okay, I made an update.
If you already flashed, you can flash the update without wipiung (it worked for me anyway.)
If you're doing an initial flash, download both files and replace the patched factoryfs insted of the original.

Has anybody tried WiFi yet? I didn't make the kernel so please test.

Not sure what yet, but something in my update broke WiFi, so I pulled it.
Back for more soon.

This is great, thanks so much!
Just flashed and loving it! Thanks again. There is that small issue with not being able to boot into recovery unless going through rom manager ... it was a minor issue with imoseyons kernel before I believe. Looking forward to updates!

dsb9938,
As you may have seen, VZW Galaxy Tab owners here on XDA are hurting for good Dev's. Thank you for showing interest in our amazingly underrated device. I was wondering if your future plans may include creating a basic ROM like this one but based on the 2.3.5 ROM Verizon is set to release?
In case you hadn't seen anything about it yet, here is the link to the droid-life article discussing it:

Debloated Original ROM

Hi guys can you tell me please if there is a ROM that pretty much stock but without that ATT garbage, rooted and may be with few tweaks but pretty much stock ROM ? Cause I am having all kind of little issues with CM10 ..but I just love GUI and stuff ....anyone ?
Thank you !
You could always just root, install titanium backup and uninstall the bloat yourself.
But did you check the development thread?

Yep! Just curious, what issues are you having with Cyanogenmod 10? I'm using it and is 100% better than TouchWiz stock without the bloatware.
Thank you for your reply and actually I kinda lost this topic I created. Now I had few months with my phone and here what I can say including your question on what issue I had. Well first of all there are simply 2 things that I just love in stock and REALLY love to have them on my CM10 or other it sound silly but it's a weather widget and original ring tone I mean it sounds idiotic but I simply can't find this widget on it's own anywhere. I spoke with some guys in IRC channel and he gave me 27 step instruction on how to extract widget from original rom and then make it work on other roms and then actual install ...well I stuck on step 3 so .... never mind that. But I really want to have it on my screen. And that ringtone I can't find it for nothing, I searched here and torrents and everywhere I could not find it. So if someone already extracted that widget that'll make my live so much more. Now to bit more serious stuff. It been some time and I don't know about fresh versions but one I installed when I wrote original post I had major problems with games, frames in games were much lower than on original rom, many times once game is installed in Play Store and you start program and it trying to load actual game data I'd get error message saying device could not be identified download failed, one example I remember is Order and chaos actual game installed in Play Store yet when I started it game gave me error about unknown device, also MX Player had some problems with playing some mkv that I have when original rom no problems ..and other small things as well. Like I said I have not tried it for some time but if someone can point out that widget and ringtones from Original i747 that'll be really nice. And very important game performance. I just load Most Wanted on the phone and I can "feel" it game pulls every bit of cpu and gpu out of the phone cause I can see frame rate and as smooth as it should but game graphic is amazing on that game so don't know.
Anyhow that's pretty much it, once again thank you for your answer and may be someone can point something out for me or give me advice on good rom for games and that damn widget I like so much.
Thanks guys !
I manage to get ringtone name: "over the horizon" all version on internet are not the same as in the phone, similar but not as good. And here is screen shoot of widget I am taken about ... I really like it

I honestly dont go to stock but i remember seeing a apk for the widget im pretty sure if you didnt remove that you could reinstall that on whatever rom you chose
I use intergalactic v1.1. Basically stock plus some tweak. I came from cm10 too but need the all share cast function. Will switch back to cm10 when 4.2 is ready which includes the miracast stuff in default.

Hi guys !
For past several weeks I've been using CM10 ...then they released 10.1 and everything stop working. I had a lot of problems with core apps like play store ,. Bluetooth and alarm and my games crashed a lot as well. I switched to .....pink unicorn and it actually working pretty good, they now have OTA, then for some reason my Order and Chaos start to crash all the time and I had no choice to go back to vanilla.
Thank you for that intergalactic ROM I have not tried it yet but as of 1.6.13 you still think it's good ? I really can use something like that. And in general what's new in Original rom - garbage scene ....is there something new beside intergalactic ?
Thank you !

Which KitKat 4.4.x ROM have you used on an SPH-D710 and would recommend?

A few years ago this seemed to be limited to either Cyanogen or a couple other ROMS, I had performance issues with CM9 and used a custom ROM instead. Now it seems like everyone has their own flavor and builds. I'm currently on a 4.1.2 ROM, I think it was SlimBean.
I'm just looking for a close-to-stock 4.4 ROM for Sprint Epic 4g Touch, that is stable and works. Does anyone have a ROM you have tried and would recommend?
I'm leaning towards Mookie or CM11
Thanks and sorry for the noob post.
Its not kitkat, but have you checked out Project X ? I am running KitKat on my nexus tab. Though have solid custom rom options that am bouncing between , really wish I could install Project X .

I had not, but I did some googling and it looks pretty nice. I may download it and give it a try.
I already installed CM11 VILLUMINATI. It was a bit tricky, but after following the steps at the bottom of page 77 of that thread, I got it running and it seems fine so far. CM always takes some time for me to get used to, so I'll run it for a few days and see how it goes.
Hope it goes well. Must say, battery life is crazy good and the highly customize-able launcher (can save settings and implement when flashing updates et cetera) @bilgerryan created are awesome - like borderline time for a tattoo time awesome. Not to mention the folks in the forum are cool - good people. Anyway, good luck with everything.

Thanks! So far, I only have a few issues with the build. I can't figure out how to get rid of the Google search bar at the top and I can't figure out how to scale the number of columns/rows on the desktops. Other than that, the lack of 4G is hardly noticeable, even here in Silicon Valley. Can't get Kies to restore my data via USB, going to try WiFi connection tonight.

From my experience, you can't do anything with kies unless you have the version of android that's originally on the phone. So it's either Kitkat or 4.1.2, bloatware, and kies. I think we both know who the clear winner is here! I've also been using the VILLUMINATI ROM and I've had exceptional battery life and fast response from my phone at the same time. As for the Google search bar at the top, I think that is permanent unless you download one of those custom theme app thingies (can't remember what they're called), but doing that kinda defeats the purpose of having Kitkat for me, as I absolutely love the new white theme with everything. I've also noticed that from using those theme apps before that they tend to drain battery fast.
EDIT: As for 'what rom I would reccomend' it would have to be VILLUMINATI, even though it's the only one I've used so far. It works, and it's good. I'll be using this rom until there is a better update somewhere, or if I find a game breaker somewhere.

You know there are custom TouchWiz ROMs out there don't you? With tons of extra features and no bloatware. I say try my Project X and see if you still go with the bug-filled AOSP ROMs with quiet mic volume and speaker volume. BTW Kies is useless, try using Titanium Backup or ROM Toolbox next time.

Ok, I'll take a look at your rom later, thanks. Also, I have never really used kies except just to see what it was, I was just referring to the post I quoted.

Here are my two cents. Personally, I like VILLUMINATTI better than Mokee, mainly because Mokee has a weird thing it does when scrolling lists. It makes the lower list items really small, and expands them to full size as you scroll down a list. Cool looking once or twice, but not something I can handle on a daily basis. They are both extremely fast and smooth ROMS, and they use very little RAM, like 30% less! Just make sure to get the best ICS modem for your area (mine was FE22), update the GPS config file using FasterFix, and load in Textra so you can activate MMS easily. Of course, you'll loose 4G and dock connectivity with either ROM.
However, I can't use the 4.4 ROMS right now because they both have the same two bugs. Firstly, the Orientation Sensor doesn't respond correctly. Secondly, they don't communicate well with Google Glass (no phone calls). So I went back to Touched By an S4 ROM, which is a TW based 4.1.2 ROM that performs really well "out of the box".
Once those two bugs are fixed I'm definitely switching back to VILLUMINATTI CM11 because it unleashes this phones true capabilities.
Given the above offerings, coupled with the fact that only the individual user can make their own determination as to what is most stable for their device, going to close this.
XDA is not a support site as it relates to asking what is most stable, best etc, for roms and or kernels. This is because threads like these become places of arguments and trolling commentary.
All users are expected and encouraged to do their own research and review of development threads to arrive to the answer they need.

Use Retired 4G Touch as WIFI Media Device?

I've upgraded to Note 3 and my Galaxy Player 4.0 is getting very long of tooth. Recently charged my retired 4G touch back up and have been using it as a media player.
Has anybody else done this? and what rom are you running? I have Touched by S4 2.2 on the "phone" currently and figure I could go with something way more stream-lined. Interested in any advice on minimal rom with outstanding battery life while maintaining good wifi use as a media player. I do a lot of radio streaming and will be placing a pretty large music library on the sd card.
Also would be interested if there are any power button replacement apps or mods in roms (that mimic LG's knock knock feature perhaps) to extend the life of the old phone's power button. I got a refurb shortly before upgrading to the Note 3 for this issue so I'm leery of the power button failing again.
On the bright side, I'll always have a back up phone with me to activate if something happens to the Note.
Thanks for reading! and thanks for any advice.
Try Gravity Screen off, also see this thread we were just discussing this-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612257

Yup, saw the other thread after I posted. I think we were both composing at the same time. I'll check out the gravity app.
Thanks for the suggestions.

+bilgerryan,
Saw the post on your Project X thread and I'd help beta your efforts on a meda player rom.
Don't know if the Galaxy Player rom is the best base for efforts or not though. The stock rom on the Galaxy 4 isn't really anything ground breaking. There are Jelly Bean and Kit Kat roms now for it but I haven't been successful in getting them installed.
I'd be just as happy with a stripped down minimal rom with good music controls and strong battery life. Don't know if this could be done with aggressive de-bloating, or if porting the player rom is better. Maybe a couple profiles: one for battery life and all day music playing, and another souped up for using it as a game device.
I'll keep an eye out for a new thread.

I'm just using it as a model to strip most of the phone type stuff out, I'm using CM10.1 as a base for a more streamlined, stripped down ROM with less bugs. I won't be doing much with it besides making am initial build for those of you that want it... until I retire my device. Don't expect anything spectacular because I still use my device as a phone.
Maybe "until you retire it" as a media device.
What about a stock based Gingerbread rom like Calkulin's?
Super duper fast because it's GB. And battery life can't be beat because of less overhead. He also has music skip mod integrated. Plus he has a bloatware removal tool to lean out the rom. Only issue I forsee is some play store apps may not be compatible with Gingerbread any longer but who cares right?

Rom download links are gone but I posted a fresh download link a while back in the last post BTW.
I still have quite a bit of stuff stored here. If you can't find something let me know. Cheers - TD
Edit: I have done many mods for that rom. They are posted throughout the thread.

I already have it, and that's another thing I was looking at because the Galaxy Player's stock ROM is GB. This isn't gonna be quick just something I'm tinkering with because I'll eventually want it when I upgrade at tax time.

Yup, there are going to be a lot of long faces...
GB is the way to go. Extremely fast, way more battery friendly and I think I did extended toggles and some init.d tweaks for it too.
