Hi all... I am from India. I bought htc one x from ebay. It is not Indian version. They are saying it is from middle east or something type that...
And also they opened box for carrier unlock and advised to not upgrade(syatem update). But one first day I got system update for 4.1.1 and I did. Phone goes in bootloop untill battery dead. Each time I apply charger I went in bootloop. I return it to seller and he solve the issue. Now today(after 4 months) I again check and there is again system update for 4.2.2. Please suggest that should I update. OR it will surely goes in bootloop since is not from my country. Or last system update was just a bad luck and should update.
Or should I first root it.
Is there any way for system backup. If i face some problem in update.
Also I dont know whether it is international or bounded with some carrier.

Should I suggest you, ask to seller as it was been advised you not upgrade system and seller known about the advice what he sold.
Is S-off harmful
I think this s-off (link given below) may make problem OR it is fine. Because I read somewhere that root and s-off make error in update.

Hi guys,
Just wanted to put it out there that I'm totally new at this rooting, custom ROM thing, and I got excited which led me to fail the number ONE rule of backing-up your phone!
Anyways, here's the situation
- Rooted my HTC One X
- Tried to install a custom ROM (IceCold Jelly)
- Phone went into bootloop, after the pink unicorn screen
Some facts
- I can get into the bootloader
- When I plug the phone into the PC, PC makes a sound, but it does not recognize the phone at all
- PC detects a "fastboot" device, but no phone
- went through a few "How to save a soft-bricked" phone tutorial to no avail
- fastboot cmd stuff don't work
- i have boot.img, fastboot.exe etc all on my pc
- drivers and htc sync up to date
I'm sorry if its been answered, but in the bunch of threads I've looked at, everything revolves around being able to use the CMD and the PC actually detecting the phone. Couldn't find any way of fixing my phone, as I said above, the PC doesn't register that theres anything connected to it.
I'd appreciate some help, its been a couple of days, and having no phone is really really hurting!
I'm really really new at this, so I apologize in advance if I don't really understand the terminologies used!
Thanks in advance!

That's good, fastboot works.
Flash the boot.img from the rom you're trying to flash by putting it into your fastboot folder and running "fastboot flash boot boot.img" then "fastboot erase cache". Then boot into recovery and perform a full wipe then reflash the rom.

Try just "fastboot erase cache", without quotation marks of course

Yeah ofcourse typing the exact same things.
Alright lets clear things up,
where should the fastboot folder be? and I type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" right after i type cmd into the windows search bar. Is there anywhereI should be running the cmd from? like the directory of the cmd?
also what boot.img file should it be? custom rom?
Thanks

You should be running the fastboot commands from the folder your fastboot file is in. Either open a command prompt and cd to your fastboot folder, or navigate to the folder in Windows Explorer and open a command prompt there by holding shift and right clicking and choosing "open command window here".
Your fastboot folder should be in your Android SDK, probably in the root of your C drive. It could be somewhere else though depending on how you set up fastboot and adb in the first place.
The boot.img you want to flash is the one inside the rom.zip you want to flash, this goes for all roms.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll keep trying and will let you guys know. I think the root of the problem is that I'm inputting the fastboot commands right as I enter the cmd prompt from the windows search bar.
Will keep you guys posted, thanks for the help so far. Don't have my phone on me this minute as its with my friend whos trying to fix it too, will get it back in the morning!
Alright,
I've tried it now, and now theres a different problem. When I try to get into recovery from the bootloader, a picture of a htc device and red triangle and exclamation mark appears. And the custom rom load screen no longer appears. PC still does not recognize the phone.

I'm not sure.
How do I install a custom recovery at this point? and how do I unlock my device via htc site. If you're talking about unlocked with operator, then yes, its an unlocked phone.
As far as I've read into this issue, I think the problem is that maybe installed the stock recovery but from a different RUU?

I think he means that have you unlocked your bootloader via the htcdev.com website?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
OP's first post states that he tried to install a rom, so his bootloader must be unlocked and a custom recovery must have been installed at some point.
@OP - all you have to do is download a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) then flash it using "fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img", then follow the steps previously explained to you in this thread.
Problem is though he says he rooted HOX he has no idea about unlocking bootloader at HTC Dev? So when he says he's rooted did he unlock the bootloader? He mentions he has an "operator" unlocked phone, and I think this is where he's getting confused. Otherwise suggesting further flashing will make a bad problem worse.
Also it sounds like he's trying to run CMD from start menu. He needs to run it from from where the fastboot file is located, or at least "point" to it in CMD.

Thanks, I really appreciate it, I think I might have to resort to this. How do we go about it? shall we talk about it via PM? I'm pretty busy this whole week, so we can do it on the weekends?
Looks like you have a stock recovery, try to install the correct RUU (stock ROM for your phone, manuals, can be found in a sticky post of the ROMs thread). So first get back to stock, then start over and read the f**king manuals very carefully. no offence.
If you don't know what you are doing, please don't start at all.

In that state try typing fastboot devices
You should something like HTxxxxxxxxxx fastboot
If the response is blank then you may not have the correct drivers installed for your phone. There are a number of ways to get the drivers; one way is to install PDAnet http://junefabrics.com/android/download.php
You don't even have to complete the whole install, just go until the driver is installed. In any case you can uninstall PDAnet and it will leave the drivers on your system.
When fastboot is finally able to recognize your phone then you can flash the boot.img by doing fastboot flash boot boot.img
(this assumes that boot.img is the actual name of the file, it should be unless you renamed it or downloaded it from somewhere)
is fastboot just a folder i create with the boot.img inside of it?

ended up bringing my phone to the cell shop. I know its an easy fix but cant seem to find that folder.. they said it was a 50/50 chance and will charge me $80 if they can get it to work...think it was a good idea?
Not really. Seems the only thing your phone needed to boot was the boot.img. That would have been done in a couple minutes. As already said here: you simply need to put the android sdk on your c: drive, put the boot.img in that folder, go into bootloader and connect your device with your pc, it should say fastboot USB, open command prompt, go to the direction of your sdk folder and use the fastboot command to flash the boot.img. It should then boot.

Go in order you'll be fine.
Root, which you already did.
Install the boot loader, just extract the files and run the script with it connected on USB.
After that, and only after, install a recovery and you can turn install custom ROMs. That guide covers it all if you spend some time reading before jumping in, always a good idea.

Debugging should be on.
Copy your chosen recovery.img to the folder where your adb.exe is, if its in the rooting folder, put them there.
For ease I would make a folder called root so its like this
c:\root
Place the adb and fastboot files in there with the recovery image.
Open a command prompt and type
cd c:\root
Type
adb devices
Should now work properly and list some numbers
Then do
adb reboot bootloader
Then
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Where recovery.img is the name of the recovery image you downloaded and copied to the folder with adb.exe

Once again, the folder that has adb.exe is where you need to be working from. Open a command prompt, cd to wherever that folder is, then do the commands. You can also hold shift and right click in the folder and choose command prompt to open it right there.

Your show extensions are off. The one that opened the prompt was it. Its not run directly, its used in a command prompt with a command. Open your prompt there or change its directory to where it is, then carry on with the instructions.
I take it all your other rooted devices had one click setups, this is a very basic device to work on, it just doesn't have a program doing it for you. This seriously should take as long as it took me to write this post to do from start to finish.

ok figured it out now i put all files together now..should i leave it in my documents or put it in my c folder..
is it power+vol up or down
I think its power on with the volume closest to the power button for fast boot, its been awhile though it may be the other one.

Hi guys,
I am stuck REALLY stuck. I have or now had a rooted htc one x. I tried to flash a rom but this kept on stucking on the logo (carbon logo, cause it was a Carbon rom). When I saw this I got confused so I deleted everything from recovery mode. EVERYTHING the rom and what was on the sd card. Now when i try to turn oi on it is stuck on the htc logo (the first one that appears). I presume its doing so cause it is finding no rom to load. My other problem is the power. The battery got drained and I cannot even see my SD card on the pc ! I found somewhere that in recovery mode i could go to advanced and to side load but i cannot even see this side load option. PLEASSSSE help me I am really desperate!!
When you're in recovery, connect to your PC and mount your sdcard, in twrp it's advanced/mount. The card should then show up on your PC, put the rom zip on your card and let the phone charge for a while. Use fastboot to erase cache then flash the rom.

Extract the boot.img file from the rom, place it in the same location as your adb set up. Reboot to fastboot mode, connect to PC, open cmd window at same location as abd and type:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Reboot.

cache erase but getting cannot open boot.img!!!!!!!!!
Don't open it. Just extract it to your adb folder, and flash it via fastboot. If it's not called boot.img then either use fastboot flash boot (bootname).img or rename it to boot.img. Plus if you've erased the system you'll need to flash the rom again via recovery.

i am typing "C:\android\sdk\platform-tools\fastboot flash boot boot.img" is it good? cause its replying cannot open boot.img and the file i extracted is called boot.img. I cant understand were i am wrong. Perhaps cause the battery is still very low?
The extracted boot.img should be in the sdk folder, for example mine is C:\Users\Sinclair\Downloads\adb_fastboot_and_other_tools\adb_fastboot_and_other_tools\Android. Open the folder, shift+right click and choose 'open command window here'. Try 'fastboot devices' to ensure it's been detected, if so it should work. Possibly a bad download.

I am completely noob on this and all these words you all use.If you cant and i completly understand could you recomend wewre i can post my problem for more veterans to see or perhaps there is somewhere where i can ship my device and get it fixed at a cost of course.
THANKS
You put literally the boot.img file in that state in the Fastboot.exe folder on the pc. So it goes into the platform tools folder !
Then you put the phone in the bootloader where you see "Fastboot usb" in red text
Then you point with the mouse inside the platform tools folder and hold down shift and click the right button and select "open command window here"
Then you type the command in that window
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
By your reply I'm presuming you don't have a full adb/fastboot setup. Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42407269,
and follow the instructions.

Hi there
Thanks for your interest in helping me out. After i do this right click thing i go to the black window and give these commands as they are no previous path like c:\ etc etc before the commands you gave me? Cause the funny thing i did the erase cache thing and it did it but this boot boot.img isnt doing it. And bdw i redownloaded another rom, copied it to the file tools and extracted it there. In it there was a boot.img file. Did i do the right thing?
Thanks again
When you open the cmd window by right click in a folder then all commands you enter are for that folder path, so it's fastboot flash boot xxx.img(replace xxx with the boot name), and it's only the boot.img for your rom you need extracted to the folder.
I think you are confusing yourself. Just stay calm and read carefully ! It's not rocket science. Open the rom.zip with 7Zip and just drag out the boot.img file to the exact same folder as where your fastboot.exe file is located. Open the command window there and type the commands.
The command fail cannot open is only because the file is just not there !

In fastboot, you can only use fastboot commands. Choose fastboot from the HBOOT menu, and when connected to your computer, it should say "FASTBOOT USB." Then, you should be able to do a "fastboot devices," and your device should show up. Please provide the output of "fastboot getvar all" and we can better judge how to proceed.

That's not what I asked for, but it might be enough. You'll need to relock the device (fastboot oem lock) and then flash the 5.07.651.1 firmware.zip via RUU mode.
Here's the file you need to download, and place the file in the same folder on your computer from which you're running fastboot.
So, after relocking, at the command prompt reboot to RUU mode.
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Then flash the firmware zip.
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Once complete, the command prompt will come back, and you can reboot back to the bootloader.
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
At this point, you will have the stock recovery, and hopefully it'll boot into it. So, when you get back to HBOOT, choose the "RECOVERY" option. If all is well, you'll get the red triangle with exclamation point, which is the stock recovery. Press both volume buttons and the power button at the same time to bring up the menu, and choose the option to reboot the device now. Hold the volume down button immediately after choosing to reboot so you can get back into HBOOT.
From there, you just have to unlock again, and then you should be able to flash a custom recovery.
Make sure you are running these commands from the folder with fastboot.exe in it. Otherwise they will give you the error you mentioned in your OP.
This may sound dumb but im having a problem relocking the device. My computer is not registing my phone.

For the purposes of this exercise, you need to select "FASTBOOT". Once you select that, it should change from FASTBOOT to FASTBOOT USB if the drivers are installed correctly.
Nothing is supposed to open on your computer - I'm not sure what you mean by that. You have to open a command prompt, and navigate to the location of fastboot.exe on your computer, which you're presumably downloaded previously.
Im not sure what I meant either sorry its been a long day. So, okay I have the correct drivers because it does say FASTBOOT USB but when I try in that command i get an error message stating it's not recognize internal or external.
