Hi Guys,
I Have an Xperia Arc which came with Gingerbread which then got updated to Ice Cream Sandwich(I dont know the firmware version no).I unlocked it using the instructions using Android DevKIT and fastboot from Sony Ericsson Mobile Website and flashed the stable CM 9.1. After Using that for about three months i waited for a stable CM 10 stable, but since it wasn't released i flashed cm-10-20130915-NIGHTLY-anzu. I followed the procedure to the T i.e.
->Wiped Data
->Cleared Cache
->Cleared Dalvik Cache
However after doing all this Only two things happened the screen either gets stuck at FreeXperia Screen or the FreeXperia Screen appears and then the screen stayed blank.SO i thought maybe there w[as an issue with the ROM so i flashed the MIUI ROM from this page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308849
But i was still facing the same issue, so i googled a bit and tried the instructions from this page
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-recover-when-your-android-device-is-caught-in-bootloop/
And tried flashing the CM 10 nightly again, but the above-mentioned problem still persists.Any idea as to why this would happen? What can i do to get the Phone working again? Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance ! :fingers-crossed:

Did you flash the FXP kernel using fastboot?

I'm sorry, in a bit of a n00b wrt to that. I have only flashed ROMs on a couple of phones, and maybe a baseband once. I do not know how to flash a kernel. Can you point me out any thread which shows the instructions for this specific procedure?

Thanks for the pointing in the right direction! I got a bit confused at first, but after bumping around for an hour or so i realised that all i had to do was flash the boot.img that comes in the ROM, before i flash the ROM. Thanks a MILLION AGAIN!

Hi!
You don´t need to unlock your bootloader cause this Rom works with stock kernel. But you´ll need to root your phone and install CWM.
Oficial 4.0.3 is rootable, so you won´t have problems to root at all. It´s pretty easy and fast.
CWM you can install using the play store: search for cwm for xperia
then, download 4.2 or 4.2n Icebean Rom and be happy.
Best regards!
Thankyou very much!
I downloaded a auto install root from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
I did this. I got stuck on SONY logo.
Im using stock kernel of ICS 4.0.4, rooted my phone by doomlord. I believe, the Ice Bean really require the ArcKnight kernel. Any idea why i got stucked? Can you advise???

Hi!
Did you solve your problem? 'I guess you did...'
I have heard of some users with 4.0.4 kernel having problems...
Honestly, I don´t know if the problem is related only to this stock kernel, but if you use 4.0.3 kernel or the new one released (587) you won´t have problems at all.
Another thing that SOMETIMES happens is to get stuck on SONY logo, but if you remove the battery of the phone, put it again and turn the phone on, then it works...
Wish u have solved before my post, but if u didn´t, try what I just wrote.

Hi there,
I definitely can't install any latest ROMs on my ARC (Ultimate HD 3.x, Zelly Cream,...) using CWM.
The latest ROM that doesn't hang during boot or just give black screen is Ultimate HD 2.0.3 (Ultimate HD MOD works either)!
- I've tried different kernels like Lupus, Fusion, RUSH as recommended in several threads but without any chance with latest ROMs...
- I've also tried re-download ROMs and kernels... No change.
- I've also tried rebooting without SD in case it sucks... No change.
For info I'm not noob, I use custom ROMS since HTC Legend...
I obviously erase /CACHE /DATA /SYSTEM /SD-EXT also dalvik and battery stats each time I install custom roms and always do clean install. No upgrade.
- My bootloader is unlocked,
- I've got one sd-ext partition,
Did I missed any new process that 100% require to use flashtool instead of CWM to flash latest ROMs? If so it suck
I don't really understand the issue this time except hardware failure but I don't have any issue of any kind with any previous ROM. No hang, no bootloop...
Any help would be very welcome
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Nope. Never had to do so for any ROM since the day I unlocked my bootloader. And it's a so sudden behavior...
Do you think it could work ? I mean is there any specific reason that it could solve the problem? Does the latest ROMs use some brand new drivers or something else that may require that?
I'll give a try because I've checked my baseband and I'm 70 while you're 83... Am I wrong or some ROM do change the baseband while some other don't ?
I did use flashtool but only to update the baseband. not for flashing custom rom... That may be the problem
I start feeling ashamed LOL !!!
yeah, try flashing the latest firmware / baseband first.

Flashing the latest ftf should include the baseband anyway so you shouldn't need to flash separately unless flashing something different.
Yeah I'm sure it will do the trick... I'm definitely noooooob to forgot that baseband stuff... T_T LOL
I'll confirm tonight.
Thanks everyone !

Hi guys,
I've flashed the latest baseband (83) and it didn't change anything!
I've flashed RUSH kernel and install Viper Xperia V4 + modules + baseband 83 libs and it still hang at the same moment. with this ROM it freeze during the boot animation (4th times xperia logo appears if this detail can be useful).
RUSH works fine. Once again if I install Ultimate HD 2.0.3 I've got no issue at all...
I definitely don't understand what's going on...
Odp: Can't install any latest ROM and no I'm not noob !)
Did you flash LT15i ftf or LT18i ftf?
All new ROMs are getting more features and they are getting bigger in size. Arc allocates less space to /system - maybe that's the reason.
When I was on CM10 on LT15i firmware I had about 1MB free space on /system after clean install.
Try flashing LT18i ftf before flashing any custom ROM.

Re: Can't install any latest ROM and no I'm not noob !)
Okay.Try doing it this way.
Flash stock 0.587 ftf.
Fast boot kernel that you want.
I presume the ROM that you need is already on your sdcard.
Go into recovery.Wipe data then go to mount/storage- format/system.Then choose the ROM zip and flash.
Tell me what happens.
For now do not choose any other baseband.Just use stock 77 which is included in the stock ROM.

Ok I'll do so! But I won't be able to do it before EOD Paris time.

No luck...
I've reflashed stock 587.ftf, boot ok on stock at this point.
Then flashed Rush kernel, wiped everything as I used to do and flashed Viper V4...
It's still hanging at the very same point during boot animation! :silly:

I am pretty sure that there was nothing wrong in all your attempts earlier.
Sometimes flashing a new rom takes a bit too long to boot up.
I do change roms very often but when I first started I had the very same problems that you faced.
We are so eager to use the newest rom that we do not give a chance for it to read the entire stuff that we've got in our device.
Sometimes first boot takes such a very long time. This is where we make our mistake.
We presume its not working.Or there's something wrong with the rom and a host of other things runs thru our head.
I for one was a impatient guy.Not so now.I just leave the phone alone after flashing.Use my secondary, much cheaper phone, till I feel I've given my arc ample time to sync completely with latest rom.

No guys, I'm 100% sure that it sucks. No offense to you but as I've said on my first post I'm not that noob on flashing ROMS, rooting devices... Even if I've left some stuffs due to the time I didn't changed my baseband... Indeed I read each ROM instruction I know the basic rules of the forum. Anyway I either don't take any offense and I understand why you write that...
I did precise at what time the boot process hang but it definitelty goes onto boot loop whatever the recomended kernel has been flashed.
I've left my phone rebooting several times knowing that it won't stop nut just in case, I've also cleaned all caches just before first boot...
Honestly I felt ashamed enough having forget that baseband stuff to not double checked if I did something wrong
I gave another try to Viper ROM some times after successfully boot onto AOKP M1R3 and obtain the same hang and bootloop.
Thanks all :highfive:
Last status...
I managed to install "Xperia T ICS Rom V7.1.0 For Arc / Arc-S" which looks interesting therefore I think I'll keep it.
coldmoonbeam may be right regarding that stock ftf... I did retrieve one from other source and maybe it wasn't the right one compared to the one I've got from Xperia T ICS Rom thread...
I'll try to flash VIPER again now and post the result. Then close the thread.
SOLVED!
That ftf stuff was the problem. It works with the one I used to flash Xperia T ICS Rom.
Thanks all for your help :highfive::good:
I have a Sony Xperia Arc. I flashed boot.img from the Paranoid Android zip to my phone, installed Gapps and the ROM through CWM but after pressing reboot in CWM it booted to the animation, the screen went white in the middle a few times and then the screen went black with only the background LEDs. It is now stuck there. Also ther is a yellow notification LED lighting after holding the power button for a while.
Specs:
Not rooted (I tried rooting with a million DoomLords, SuperOneClicks and god knows what else)
Bootloader unlocked

I was able to solve my problem
How:
I tried rebooting my phone a few times and I think on my fourth try I was able to boot into Paranoid Android.
Thanks anyway tangosierra!
BTW putting a CM mod auto roots your phone
Edit:
I backed up my phone through CWM and this problem is again nagging me. It seems each time you install/backup/update through CWM you have to restart your phone a few times.
Edit 2:
That is definitely not it. Even on a regular restart this is happening... I hope this bug gets fixed soon.
Edit 3:
This only happens on restart not shutdown and then start.

Hi guys,as the title says i cannot flah rom.
Well i can flash them but every rom has problem,I tried PAC,CM,SlimBean nothing work(or if it works,no more than one day or 2)
CM gives me MD5 errors, slimBean UI keep crashing,PAC every time i try to flash something in recovery(after flashing the rom)keep rebooting and stays on loop.
I know i mentioned specific roms and whatnot but at this time i don't think it's rom related(or recovery,i tried 3 different recovery),the only thing working flawlessly is the stock rom with root.
You guys have some advice? i've had the phone for about 5 months now and i wanted to try out roms but apparently i can't.
Cheers

the first time with CM no because i followed a guide which didn't.
But with PAC and SlimBean yeah i wiped everything.
The first time with PAC recovery went bad(i guess)and didn't let me wipe or flash anything,i flashed a stock tft repeated the process, the flash worked but as i reboot and tried to flash the on screen button it gave me the same recovery error.
maybe i do something wrong,i came from an HTC desire HD and the whole process was easier and less problematic

Yes, I'm still able to get into twrp but restoring now fails.I went from BeanStalk to Vectus Slim to NexOGen to SuperNexus (never booted), now I can't flash any stock or cm based rom without it hanging. I don't believe I have. I never had any issues until now.
I found this thread which seems similar to the problems I'm having. It seems like formatting data could fix the problem. If not, i'll try LGPNST and flashing teenybins next.
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342985&page=2
I believe flashing a teenybin was recommended for CM so occurances like the LG logo to black screen would not occur. This happened to me, so I know by experience. A lot of people dont do it because it seemed to complicated and flashed CM and nothing happened, most likely it will happen to them sooner or later.
Good luck with the teenybin, I'm pretty sure that will solve your problem, as that solved my LG logo to black screen problem months ago

Did not know this, thank you very much. Formatting the data and flashing a new rom via adb worked by the way. As you suggested, I just flashed the original teenybin with LGNPST and everything went smoothly. Hopefully, I don't have to run into the logo black screen issue again. Thanks!
