So my brother needed a new phone badly and he went out and switched to sprint (from verizon) and got a galaxy s2 today. I know the galaxy s3 is coming out in 15 days.
Now as far as I see, Sprint has a 14 day return policy for the phones. Do you think there's any way he would be able to return the phone in 14 days and get the galaxy s3 the next day?
The tricky part is that he's switched from verizon, so if he returns the phone, I don't know if he can still keep the wireless plan or is eligible for a new phone. Does anyone have experience with what happens if you sign up for a new plan but then keep the plan and just return the phone? Are you still eligible for discounts on the phone then? I could give him an old touch pro 2 to keep the account active for a couple of days if needed.
Thanks for any tips.

Well the policy is 14 days. And the day he got it counts as day 1. And if you return it within the 3rd day they will credit back the activation fee. If you return after the 3rd day (4-14) they will stick you with the activation fee. Also if the reason that he is returning it is just because he wants the gs3 they might charge him with a $35 restocking fee. As soon as he returns the device the reset the upgrade .So my advice is to return asap if he is still within the 1-3 days. And the only way for him to keep his number and plan is to activate the extra TP2 that you said you have. Hopefully this helps

Hey!
I have some experience with this, and I can tell you (at least, again, from my experience) that Sprint will let you do something like that... if you switch the phone on the same day.
I think if you call in advance, maybe they'll make some leeway for you, or at least explain what you can do. But sorry, I don't know about whether or not you can return the phone and then wait, and pick it up.
However, for me, on the 13th day following my contract extension I was able to replace an Evo 3D for an E4GT, no problems at all.
Also... maybe you can exchange for a pre-order? That's just a thought...
Thanks for the replies so far. In all honestly, that Galaxy S 3 will be mine! lol. So if the upgrade gets reset I can have him activate my old palm treo or the touch pro 2 and then once he gets the galaxy S 3 I'll just pay him the 35 bucks if need be. He will then get my galaxy S2, so nothing lost on his end.
why didn't he just go to walmart and get a cheap pay-as-you-go phone for $40 to tie him over until the s3 is available? would've been cheaper than the mess he got himself into.

He needs the phone for business and he was actually just planning on keeping the Galaxy S2. So it's technically me making things complicated because I think the upgrade is going to waste getting an S2 instead of S3.
You can do it. The thing is you or him needs to exchange one device for the other at the moment in the grace period. But not return it and stay without a phone till SGSIII arrive. Good luck.

Wait so this thread is about you wanting an s3 and talking your brother who had to have a phone and got one he probably likes since the s2 is one of the best phones ever made(imho) and now you want to cost ALL OF US INCLUDING YOURSELF IN THE LONG RUN MORE MONEY? Dang..... thats worng and I hope with all sinceraty your brother returns his s2 and keeps his s3 for himself.
if you dont think you are costing us money by waisting a completley good device that will have to be sold to asurion then wait until the next hike in sprints prices ex: TEP goes to $11 next month we have it good with unlimited data but since sprint customers try to cut so many corners the company is being forced to find ways to make up the money...... and I already know you dont care bout coporate america blahblahblah, we'll see when your in the "omg I cant believe sprint is charging me for this now thread"
Again these are my opinions so take it for what its worth

I'm not sure if i exactly understand what you are saying. The grace period is 14 days, but the new phone comes in 15 days.
My plan is to go on the 20th (the 14th day of the grace period) and tell them he doesn't want to keep the galaxy s2, but wants to keep the plan. Then I will have thenm activate a treo or TP2 that I have laying around in lieu of the gs2, wait until the next day or two when the GS3 is out (he will have to use the treo for a day or two) and have him purchase the GS3 at that time.
Crossing my fingers and hoping that works.

I appreciate your opinion. However, I am not doing anything outside of Sprint's own limitations. They have a 14 day grace period for you to try out the phone. I will end up paying 35 dollars likely for returning the galaxy s2 as well. The whole purpose of the 14 day grace period is if you change your mind. I am more informed on the subject than my brother and have convinced him that the galaxy s2 was not a good choice when the s3 is coming out. I believe that is a legitimate reason to return the S2 and get the S3

OK not gonna start a war w you bout this but if that were the case they wouldn't ding the sales rep who sold you your device when you exchanged it, even worse if it is 3rd party you lose you comish all together. The policy is so if you are absolutely unable to learn a device or it does not fit into your lifestyle such as work or things of the sort, it not put in play so we can test a device or borrow for 2 weeks bottom line weather you believe it or it straight up coat the company money period and if we dont preserve what we have it will be gone.

I take no offense to your post and understand your stance on it. I was not aware that the representative loses their commission if the item is returned, but that does make sense considering that sprint did not make any money on it. Considering that fact, I can try to return to the same representative when purchasing the galaxy s3 to minimize his loss at the very least.
Won't work, you have to do a direct exchange within the 14 days. If you return it, they'll cancel the account which will cancel his number. If you "activate a treo in the mean time", his 14 days is still running, meaning he'll be out of luck come the 15th day. Best bet is to call customer care to see if they will let you pre-order the S3 and use a temp phone in the mean time.
Should have waited one more day.
EDIT: As long as you exchange the device, the rep still makes commission for the activation. If you outright return it, they get charged back for it.

Thanks for the tip. Although I don't understand why he wouldn't be able to keep the phone line without keeping the phone. I guess they are linked? Would he be able to just activate another sprint line without purchasing a phone and just transfer the line over to there?
I think I'll just have to go down to Sprint with him soon and figure all this out. In the end if we can't do it it's not a huge loss. The GS2 is and will still be an awesome phone. It would just be awesome to have the latest and greatest
He can return the phone completely on last day then buy the SGSIII when it comes out. Or just return the SGSII ina week then get another phone to reset his 14day period

Exchanging does not "reset" the 14 day guarantee. If you exchange on day 14, that's the phone you're stuck with.
on a somewhat related note, you only get one exchange during that 14-day period so be sure to choose the exchange wisely.
So after all of that my brother decided to stay with Verizon because he wasn't happy with the wireless service on sprint. No new phone...

Apparently bit too late but still may be someone will use this info.
I was due for upgrade last year in july when EVO 3D came out.
I had a Samsung Moment and I used my upgrade to get EVO 3D.
Back than it was 30 days grace period.
I kept EVO 3D for about 2 weeks and couldn't get used to it. So I returned it to Sprint and went back to my Samsung Moment.
My account has been reset and money has been refunded except for $35 restocking fee.
It all happened in July.
6 months later in December I used my upgrade to get SGSII.
So if you have account and you return the phone you still keep the number and contract. At least it's true for upgrades.

Just to clarify things yes the number and the ESN from whatever device you have at that time are linked. If you return the device you cannot keep the line open as it will not have a valid ESN attached to it.

If people here are anywhere near slickdeals people you might need to say "2 year contract needed" , LOL.
Dang just my luck I just ordered the Note 2 on Friday. I have to wait until I tomorrow and see if they still have any 99 cent refurbs. Upside was the phone was 200 before taxes but I could save myself 199.
att knows galaxy IV will put note ii to shames? maybe that' why they want to get rid of note II?

Ok the galaxy S4 will not put this phone to shame. Why cuz it has a better screen, and a few more features. Samsung loves people like you to go& buy the latest and the greatest!
As far as the refurbish goes. It just a bunch of phones that got returned for minor issues, bad charging ports, screen not coming on, phone stop powering on, etc. So that's why they're getting rid of them to the public. Not because of the S4 release. Why not make more money on something that was broken b4! It's a common practice in electronics business..
But me & refurbish  there's always the possibility that your going to run into some of those same issues. I've had friends with refurbish products, I've also owned some myself..
But hey for 99¢ why the he'll not right
Just my 2¢

I just ordered one this morning.
The down side, after upgrade fees and taxes it cost me $90.00. Still not too bad of a deal.
I'm considering adding a line to my account to upgrade from my gs3. I have fat fingers and typing on a larger screen may be easier for me. I am hesitant to get anything refurbished though. So many choices I just can't decide. I would hate to wait until Wednesday and be disappointed by the gs4 and all the refurbs gone.

Except for my current Note II every upgrade I've gotten from ATT over the last 3-4 years starting with my Blackberries have been refurb. Every one of them lasted. I was shocked, because I was worried also.
Obviously doesn't mean bad ones weren't put out. But my 2 cents is I've always saved 100-200 bucks getting the refurbs , and I've had great success with them.
Sucks now since I've upgraded to two Note II's over the past months and paid the $250.

ordered mine today! updating from an SGS Cappy. This little beast has done pretty well, running 4.2.2 now, albeit a little boggy.:good:
Just waiting on the wife to get home, I'm all over this.
I may just add the insurance to be safe.
I am a bit confused about the messaging though, I'm pretty sure we both get charged 30 a month for family messaging unlimited, but it is only 20 per person? There is no explanation on their website.
Should it be just 30 for both of us or 30 each?
I had the family messaging, it was $30 that includes all lines.

Just ordered 2 of them. Was a little confusing, I added the data plans, couldn't add a family texting plan all it would say is "current" so I think it will still be there, but whatever. Does anyone use Google voice for texting? Can I just eliminate a texting plan altogether?
Upgraded (via my mom's contract, heh heh) and I am SO excited. I have a GS2 running 4.1.2 but I know someone with a Note II and it's beautiful. I am so glad I looked at the AT&T site today, heh heh.
Thanks for the heads up! I got one for my wife and one for my daughter. Both are happy.
My 14 day refund period on my new Note 2 just ran out Friday. Argh why didn't I wait 3 more days! I had been waiting to decide on the HTC one and finally decided on the Note 2 just last week. I thought this price drop might happen but I assumed it would have been done already. Like after the HTC launch.
Oh well. That's life.
There is one saving grace. The store seems to have forgotten to reset my upgrade. So if something else is better I can still upgrade on the cheap.
I actually ordered the 99 cents Note 2 this afternoon. It was actually free. They have a $25 instant web promo going on also. But they won't "give" me $24.01. It just shows as $0 on my order slip.
I get new activation waived via ATT premier also for new lines. I added a line.
So will automatically switch newly activated line to flip phone. Cancel data. Switch my sim from my iPhone 5 to the Note 2.
Cancel the new line in one month. Total out of pocket cost ($315) for Note 2..
Not bad. $315 is cheaper than the $500 they are going used on craigslist and close to $600 on eBay.

I added the line to my family plan for 10 bucks a month , 10 x 24 = 240$ , no cancellation fee needed. I will keep the line because I can now upgrade every year.
So it has confirmed the Note 2 is skipping the 4.2.2 update and skipping to the 4.3 update (Source). But the update is rumoured to be releasing around Q3/Q4... The Note 3 on the other hand will be announced this September, and may be released around November just like the Note 2... The Note 3 is said to come with 4.3

ATT let me upgrade every iPhone on a yearly basis. Until the iPhone 5 came around and I wanted to jump ship to the Note 2. They just suddenly changed.
I spent 6 hours on the phone, multiple days, trying to get them to give me the note Note 2. Some of the people were just outright nasty too. Claiming I never did such a thing with the iPhones.
So when the Note 3 comes out I'm filing with the BBB, getting out of my contract, jumping over to Tmobile.

For terrible service. I live in rural NY, but a popular one at that. I follow ATT's stupid cell tower news, and they can add towers in my area until the cows come home - but its always spotty.
My coworker just switched from ATT to Verizon doing the same exact thing after I recommended it to him. He filed a complaint, ATT called him the next day, the following day he sent his phone back and went to Verizon for his new contract, and the next day he was sitting next to me with a brand new S4.
Three days flat.
The only reason I recommended the idea was because a friend had done it to switch from Sprint to Tmobile after his screen broke.
Even if I need to lie about it to really drive home the point of the terrible service they've given me and my family for over 6 years on separate accounts, I could care less. According to ATT, I already am a liar anyway.

Well I personally was nowhere near as phone dependent as I was 3 years ago that's for sure. With new work and having to need constant phone service and email access to be on the ball, it wasn't as bad.
And now TMobile is offering all these great plans at such low prices. And even an insurance plan that lets you upgrade not once, but TWICE every year. I could never see myself upgrading twice, but I'm a hardware sleuth so I like the yearly and am willing to pay if thats what it takes.
After doing the math out, for me and several family members to switch, it would be almost $20 a month cheaper on Tmobile even with that insurance plan for me.
So lower cost, plus better service in my area, plus the upgrade insurance plan looks pretty damn sweet. I'd say anything to get out of the ATT contract to be honest. And again, they already called me a liar anywho. -.-

More than 90% of the complaints get solved. Especially when it costs $500+ for a cell phone provider to dispute a BBB claim.

More than 90% of the complaints get solved. Especially when it costs $500+ for a cell phone provider to dispute a BBB claim.
I mean, you did after all tell me they will laugh me off the phone when you in fact submit claims online But hey, what do I care if you believe me or not.

Dude $500 is pocket change to them. That's my bill for like 2 months with a couple smart phones on it. Believe me. ....they're not going to back down over 5 bills

Yes, they're going to spend $500 to dispute a customer who is going to leave them anyway when they could just let said customer go, get his phone back, refurb the phone, and sell out another contract without losing a dime or time. In fact, they make double with the refurb phone technically. Resolving the dispute all together too.
EDIT:
I mean if you honestly think this is the first time people have done this successfully, and you're going to argue it like it is, then you need to reevaluate some of your logic
My next phone (in about a year and a half) will almost definitely be a Sony or Nexus.
I have had 3 Samsung smart phones and before that 2 Samsung, 2 Motorola, 1 Sony Ericson (sp?) and of course the venerable Nokia back in the day.

Hello friends. So I preordered My Galaxy Note (4) a week ago and I traded my Galaxy S3.... Sprint Store called me yesterday and they said come and take your phone.
Now I got my phone, and I check my sprint account online but I'm still eligible un upgrade. Basically I got the device without using my line's upgrade. I called sprint to make sure if my line still eligible un upgrade and they said sure, it's eligible and you can get a new phone at any time!
Also Three or four weeks ago I upgraded IPhone 6+, and according to my sprint account, I'm still eligible un upgrade, I've never seen this issue before.
To make it easier to understand, I have 10 lines and I upgraded 2 of them last few weeks, but still my all lines are eligible un upgrade, I even called sprint to make sure if in fact this is true, and they said sure, all your lines are eligible an upgrade.
So my questions is: Did they forget to update my contract, or they actually did this by propose . I honestly don't know what to do and I'm thinking maybe calling sprint and tell them that I have free Two phones! Any advice would be appreciated and sorry my bad English guys.
I had situation like this 4 months ago, upgraded 3 lines and system did not "pick that up" and I was eligible for upgrade for promo price for another two months. Nothing in 2 months. After 2 months I am "still eligible for upgrade" but not for promo price anymore, they are offering me easy pay (per month). My guess is this will get updated itself in near future, but who knows miracles do happen .
I had that before too...use it before you lose it!! I was waiting for the note 2 to come out back then...waited 6 months then it was gone before the note 2 came out..I was sad
Thanks guys, but it looks like your situation was quite different than mine. I got these two phones for easy pay way not yearly upgrade
Has anyone talked to Verizon about returning the Note 7 but keeping the upgrade until a new phone comes out? Everything out now just doesn't suite my needs, and I don't want to buy an 8 month old S7 Edge that isn't going to replace my Note 5 or 7.
I chatted with Verizon, and was told that if I simply returned the device, whatever I activated on the line (even my old Note 5) would effectively x-out my upgrade even if it wasn't a brand new phone or an upgrade.
Now, one interesting thing is the upgrade is on my wife's line, but the phone is on my line... So question 2, would that work the same?
That's ridiculous. How would activating an old phone be using up the upgrade. I'm going to call myself in a few and see what they say because in my case. I no longer have my old phone so I'm buying one from someone this weekend to be able to activate it in place of this note 7. Dammit what a mess this entire thing has been.

I agree, it's BS when everything else fails to compare. If that is the case, I'll buy an iPhone 7 plus and ebay it.
Ok I just got off the phone with Verizon cs. The rep I spoke to was real nice and she knew her info.
I asked her if I activate my old. Phone will I still have my upgrade and she said YES.
She says I can upgrade at anytime.
I then asked since Verizon canceled the contracts what to keep me from staying with my phone and not returning it. She said EVENTUALLY THE COMPANY WILL HAVE AN AUDIT AND THEY WILL THEN SEE THAT THOSE PEOPLE WHO STILL HAVE THE NOTE 7 HAVEN'T RETURNED THEM AND WILL EVENTUALLY BE BILLED FOR THE PHONE VIA WHICHEVER WAY YOU HAD YOUR PHONE PAYMENT SETUPLIKE. For instance i was going to pay monthly on mine for 2 years and if I keep the phone eventually when the phone is caught in the audit they would Then proceed to charge me monthly again for the phone.
Oh and something interesting she mentioned is when I originally swapped my old. Note 7 for this newer supposed safer note 7 that they didn't have me sign a new agreement. So basically there's nothing tieing me with this phone to them. But once again all it would take is a audit. Which they will eventually have done and they would flag it. I'd have to sign or return phone and be charged etc. Hopefully this answers some of your guys questions. I know it answered all my questions by calling.
I'm going back to my old phone. Getting all my refunds and upgrade next year when a hopefully. Newer better note 8 will be out.

Yep, I went to a high volume brick and mortar here in Jacksonville and confirmed the same. I'm going back to my old Note 5 and will return this to a store for a refund. No stylus or 5.7" screen is a deal breaker for me at this point. I really want a microsd slot, but I'll just have to deal for now.
