[Q] Note 2 - 4.3 Touchwiz Pull - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey all,
It's been awhile since I've posted here, mostly since I haven't been ROM swapping as much on my Note 2, since I like Touchwiz enough just to use Apex Launcher instead of a full AOSP/AOKP ROM. That being said, with Samsung "Saying" 4.3 updates for Note 2 around Nov/Dec time-frame, how soon do we expect our amazing developers here on XDA to get their hands on the Samsung pre-release source for us to load and test?
I plan on upgrading to the Note 3, but was just checking if anyone has a line on beta builds.

So the European version of 4.3 had been leaked on the S4 and Note 2. Not so patiently waiting for a sprint version.

Sprint is better than most carriers regarding updates. Not that that means much, but no one else is any more reliable or better when it comes to updates.

We'll see it when it's ready and stable. And as MDM is being pushed a lot for Samsung (Airwatch for example) expect a big change in security with 4.3. I'm expecting close to N3 security.

So now that there's a 4.3 port for the international Note 2, what's blocking devs from coming up with a 4.3 port for our beloved Sprint version?

That port is for n7100 not n7105 , devs need a working modem.bin and 4.3 kernel from n7105.

You mean the 800mHz that Sprint is phasing out via PRL...and I'd wager in no way is going to be fixed?

They removed it from the note 2 prl because there were issues. However, there is speculation that a fix is in the pipelines...let's hope so.

Unfortunately it says the the report wasn't confirmed by Samsung, and it also says that its still gonna have to go through the carriers... dunno how att is because I'm new but I know vzw is a huge Hassel when it comes to pushing through any upgrades. Hopefully the code Samsung wrote form its handset gets leaked though because then we will have the capability to flash it without waiting for carrier approval.

Despite the fact that it's not really official (no Samsung confirmation) it's still good news. I doubt this would be an invented news, there's gotta be some truth behind it... now as for the carriers' part in this, that's another matter!

My theory is that the Jelly Bean leak since is actually a Sammy leak and is still being worked on by Tmobile and AT&T uses the almost the same kernel both d2 the devices. The new jelly bean leak has LTE settings in it meaning that you can set AT&T LTE/PTA APN settings and use 4G LTE in theory. Their are risk because the leak contains a new baseband, you can always reflash back to an older baseband though so this is not the biggest deal. The update does not include a new bootloader so no worries their. And you can always flash back to ICS. In my mind this may be worth fixing up a few files to see if it works. I'm going to give a try. I'll report back.
Looking forward to what you uncover drew

I'll take a look - I think it can be ported without a hitch to i747.

The system and everthing seems to copy over fine, it's the kernel that's giving me trouble right now. I'm going to work on it some more and see what I can find out, but by that time I'm sure an AT&T version will be out.
I'm still working on it and will continue.
What about using ktoon's or faux' JB kernel in the meantime?

So true, used to own a Nexus S and was supposed to get Google first updates right after the Galaxy Nexus and of course take a wild guess on what happened... Got it like after three other phones.. :what:
This time we can blame more on carrier like T-Mobile because phone like GS3 has leak for update on international version tells me that Samsung is working harder to release updates this time around. But update for carrier specific phone like ours will get stuck at T-Mobile for adding bloatwares and testing and such.. Had same issue with GS2 we will probably never see 4.1.2 on T-Mobile GS2 even though there was leak images for international one.
In the end it's all about business for them really..

Have no idea about T-Mobile, but up here in Quebec, Videotron doesn't really bloat the rom. They add one or 2 apps but that's it. So we'll keep our fingers crossed.

I think we will probably get those new features after the S4 is out, but I think it will also be packaged as JB 4.2, so I feel we will have both the new features and currently released Android OS, so it will get Panorama shot, lockscreen widgets, etc. If we do get JB 4.2, that will be 2 major OS updates since official release (ICS 4.0 > JB 4.1 > JB 4.2.
I also hope that the Note 1 (I have the international version running on Straight Talk's AT&T and also on T-Mobile's $30/month plan) gets some of the new S4 enhancements and maybe JB 4.2 as well, but that would be a stretch.
