Not Bad
It took a little googling and a bit of trial and error to find a ROM Toolbox that worked but ROM Toolbox.apk is a great program works for the boot animations as well as several other tweaks. I couldn't however, find a program called romtoolbox.
Can you use toolbox for custom ones, I download a zip and put it into the file location that toolbox uses and also in my download folder but does not show up ugh.
Also Im running ICS there is no file in system/media called boot anything but yes I was able to change the annim. using one of the stock files that tool box offers. So im lost I files are somewhere, but not at that location.

I'll take a look at it later today. Because recently Google changed the background to an XML file instead of an image like it used to be so it may prove to be useless.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Edit: Yeah unforturnetly i cant port it, since 4.2 its now an xml that controls the background_holo, However i could remove the xml's and then just use the image... hmm... gives me an idea... can you give me your rom's framework-res.apk and be willing to test something for me?
Yea sure, where do i find that file with root manager?

No.. they've already acknowledged the issue and promised a fix. Just didn't happen in time for the 4.2.1 update (they had to fix that December bug quickly)

Ahh, really? I missed that! Thanks
I always just assumed that's how they designed it, I mean the first time if it was an image, someone had to have designed and approved that image right? That's why I always just assumed that's what they wanted it to look like, Cuz they could have just used a plain image if they intended it to be a flat background.... Lol,
(Now this makes me think they DID intend it to look like that, but when sooooo many users said they didn't like it they decided "hmm, let's just call it a bug and we'll change it later" hahaha)

Steps :
1. Download the ZIP
2. rename it to "bootanimation.zip" or "shutdownanimation.zip"
3. push it into your /system/media
4. set permission -rw-r-r- a.k.a 644

8. PROFIT!!!!!
Make sure you delete the old ones, "bootanimation.zip", "bootanimation_sprint.zip" and bootanimation_boost.zip or shutdownanimation.zip and shutdownanimation_sprint.zip"
Please let me know if these do not work or the link ever gets broken or anything like that.
I do not take credit for making any of these, I have found them throughout the internet and edited them to work with this phone, such as resizing the image. If any of them are yours then please let me know!
Mega, you seem to always be the first person to "thanks" my OP when I post anything. Haha.
Also, Almost done uploading. Decided to get an account at Android File Host, was just waiting to get approved for Dev. I am trying to take the stock Jelly Bean bootanimation and reverse it for a shutdown animation.

No, has to be done by the directions.
Updated OP and added 4 more bootanimations.
Theoretically couldn't you do this for any file that's supposed to be a bootanimation?
For instance, I have a GS3 as well so I frequent those forums and have a couple bootanimations for that phone. I could just install them on the OG the same way you explained in your OP. Do you think there would be any problems that would cause a brick/bootloop issue because of the different dimensions of the screens?
Changing the Sound - Awkward Sounds
Heya,
This worked perfectly the above method by Epic. However now when I boot up I get the awesome nexus boot logo but still the same awkward sprint boot sound. With a look digging I discovered that the boot up or as in the phone "PoweOn_Sprint.ogg" and the bootoff "PowerOff_Sprint.ogg" all located in the same media folder "/system/media/audio/ui/" So now the question is lets start picking boot sounds (on/off) maybe the nexus 4 will be a good start.
Thank you in advance,
TheAceX
What I would do is just search up android boot animations and so far anyone I likes has work. As for the sounds, you can make the boot sound literally any song or clip you want, my power on is the ps1 boot sound which is awesome. You just have to convert the sound into .ogg with an audio converter program, rename it PowerOff_Sprint or PowerOn_Sprint respectively and make sure its capitalized exactly that way, then put it in the Ui directory.
I was gonna post a how to but no one showed interest lol

Not a problem. Thanks man!
You could always try using something like THIS to convert any audio files.
I haven't tried this service so I can't vouch for it, but I've used ones like it before.
Then you install it just like the bootanimations (naming them appropriately and putting them in the proper folder).

You shouldn't (it is really unlikely) have any issues.
They may look a little stretched or won't fill the screen.
If the animation is somehow broken, Android doesn't need it to boot.
I might already know the answer, but can I add this to the rom your testing? and tell which one you would like me to try.

I have the international S4 keyboard working with autocorrect on my VZW S4 but I am having some issues with the word suggestions. Basically I can type faster than the suggestions so it changes the words I type when it shouldn't be. If I slow down my typing the autocorrect works perfectly.
I don't think you'll want to use the zip I posted as I'm sure the VZW feature.xml is different than yours but you can make the change to yours very easily.
Code:
<CscFeature_Sip_DisableAutoCorrection>true</CscFeature_Sip_DisableAutoCorrection>
to
<CscFeature_Sip_DisableAutoCorrection>false</CscFeature_Sip_DisableAutoCorrection>
Then push the keyboard from the international S4 to /system/app

KitKat Easter Egg BootAnimation By AbhishekS
Download Here
http://d-h.st/E7L
(couldn't attach to XDA as the limit for a zip on XDA is around 11mb)
So guys I was bored and decided to make a KitKat Easter Egg Bootanimation for my phone so that I can flaunt KitKat in front of my friends while booting the device too.
I pretty much liked the outcome so thought of sharing it with all of you.
The size of the zip is big for a bootanimation (32mb) because all the images used are of full 1280x720 resolution.
Installation:
To install, simply copy the zip file to system/media and give the permissions as rw-r-r (ie 644)
Download Here
http://d-h.st/E7L
(couldn't attach to XDA as the limit for a zip on XDA is around 11mb)
The video doesn't look too good as it's just for 5 seconds. But believe me it looks fantastic as the bootanimation on the phone because I have looped it.
loved it! Thanks
Very nice, thanks for sharing - when I accidentally came across the Easter Egg (trying to remember which of the rows to hit, to activate the developer options ) I thought about creating a bootanimation, so you saved me the effort!

But you can download the currently uploaded zip too. Just copy it to system/media and change permissions to rw-r-r (644).
If you don't know how to change permissions then after pasting simply boot to recovery and tap on 'Fix Permissions'.
