[Q] Help With Installing A Rom With No SD and Driver Problems - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

ok so my sprint s3 was recently rooted, i got the twrp on to it, i then flashed a nightly of CM, i didn't like it so i decided to go to try something else, so i went into recovery, wiped the system, then shortly realized that i don't have a usable SD card to keep the .zip file to flash from. i was like oh no problem ill just transfer them over to my hard disk with my computer, when i plugged my sprint gs3 in it was recognized as a cd-rom drive and it would say that there was no driver installed for my phone model, so i went and re-downloaded the drivers thinking that they uninstalled or something, don't get me wrong i had them working before. now i am scared that ill have to wait to get a SD card from someone, and i need to use my phone i am a very busy person. so if you have a VALID solution please do answer, but if your gonna be stupid and say get a iPhone, or get a sd card, or something etc DONT SAY ANYTHING at all.
Thanks

Have you tried downloading a ROM straight on the phone and flashing from internal storage? There's an option at the top of twrp to switch storage

Easy there hoss . You can try SD Formatter to see if you can save the SD Card. Copy everything from the SD Card onto your PC / Laptop. Then format the SD Card. Put your information back on the Card. Place it back in the device, and see if it works for you.

that wont work
i would do that exept like a said i dont have a SD card to use like i did, and besides the s3 does not have a removable sd card that comes with it, u would have to buy that second hand like i did but ended up letting my freind have it, (long story) as my s3 has 16 gb internal non removable storage your option will not work

no rom i wiped the internal storage

atm there is no rom as i just wiped the storage as i was ready to remove the buggy nightly. i would have kept the other rom on my SD card to flash from there hence what u were saying changing the storage option. i would use android sdk to try to add the rom.zip on to my phone but like i said i was having a weird driver problem ever since i installed the custom recovery

It's been a while since I used TWRP. But I remember an option to mount Storage in Recovery. Have you tried that ?

i think if i remember correctly i still does
but i am curious if i would have to go back to stock?
i really don't wanna do that

Mount internal storage in TWRP and copy a rom to it and flash. If unable to do that then Odin back to stock until you can get a card. At least you'll have a working phone.

If you have latest TWRP, go to Mount and select "Mount as OTG"(or something like that...i dont remember well all the options) or in Advance Menu. Then plug it to your computer. I think that's the option you need.
infected with the unspeakable

[Q] Issue with CWM after removing external memory card

When I first rooted the phone I had installed an 8 gig memory card; however, after having some issues and deciding the internal storage is sufficient, I removed the memory card. Before doing so I moved the clockwork folder from the external card to internal memory. I got into recovery and tried to do a new backup, and it said Cant mount /sdcard. I thought by moving the default folder I confused CWM, so reflashed it via Odin, but still getting the same error.
What do I need to do to get CWM to use the internal storage as default?
I am pretty sure there is an option to "backup to internal sd card" Click that.

Also there is a cwm zip to flash recov which is cool u wont have to use odin.....here

Thx sarni. I'll keep that in mind although I'd like to keep the non-touch CWM if possible. worst case scenario I can flash back to stock and re-flash.
Anyone else have any ideas?

Holy crap.. wit the root guide they give u old cwm, install rom manager n install t-mobile cwm through that, has internal sd option n works better.. also on android, it "mounts" the sdcard similar to a hdd, to remove ALWAYS unmount from settings b4 removing, in cwm goto mounts and storage, unmount sdcard otherwise u can corrupt data

I have no idea what youre trying to say here. There is no tmobile cwm. Theres tmobile's recovery and theres cwm.
Anyway. I flashed back to unrooted stock, rerooted, installed cwm 5.0.2.6, and still having the same issue. Nandroid says "cant mount /sdcard, and ROM manager, when trying to download a newer version of cwm, says "an error occurred while trying to run privileged commands", I have a feeling my internal sd card is corrupt.
Im going to flash back to unrooted stock again, perform sd card wipe/format, factory reset, and start again.

I never said t-mobile cwm, I said simply install rom manager feom market and install cwm from there the version under guide is old..
And yes actually, under cwm when it asks u to verify jr model it lists it as tmobile, I stated this BECAUSE OF THE WAY ITS LISTED and the EASIEST way for a n00b to get it, at least try the above before posting and rying to correct me.
Thx

Hey blackangst so did u try that touch by sk8? And if u think internal is corrupted u might just have to format that ****. It will suck but lets save that for a last option and try to narrow it down

Ye idc bout u correctin me, I wrote that in 2min on my way home from my phone, excuse me if I worded it quickly.
My entire basis is simply the version in guide is OLD, 5.0.2.6 to be exact.
N no not hostile, just can't stand stupidity, and there is a difference between lack of knowledge and stupidity (not callin u stupid here don't jump to conclusions here..) and no, not new had an account a few years back left bout almost a year ago cuz of the stupidity and ammount of people who would rather DL and complain about it then look at wat goes into it, or simply rather flame people and throw off a topic rather then post relative information (last few posts are comming close to being under this category) or the trolls and morons who like to post crap or responses to which they no nothing about.
And fine, if u don't wanna use rom manager download odin flashable from their site, its 5.0.2.7 and has internal support, I said rom manager cuz technicly its the easiest manoeuvre.
Again I'm not new, just grew tired of the scene and decided to come back fresh and c if things have changed..
And I'm as nice as I need to be, when I need to be. Simple as that.
As far as "jumping down everyones throats in every post",
I never once said anything outa line (k, mayb that once when buddy told me to piss off, I gut pissed off alright)
Everything Ive said ive had a reason for. And actually, I try 2 help out, but topics like this are a prime example, if u don't word it 100% people are WAY to quick to jump on it.
When I do jump in pissed off its cuz I see a new post go up with the exact thing stated a couple posts down.

I think my internal was corrupted. Here's what I did:
In CWM 5.0.2.6 formatted all possible things, including emmc.
Flashed back to unrooted stock via Odin
Re-rooted with recovery-cmw-hercules.tar (CWM 5.0.2.6)
Downloaded ROM mgr again, and flashed to CWM 5.0.2.7
Now I have the choice in CWM to backup to internal (5.0.2.6 doesnt have that option)
Re-flashed Darkside 2.5.1
All is working flawlessly now. Looks like I had a corrupt internal partition somewhere.
And doug36, I appreciate your attempt to help, I really do. But frankly, your posts are extremely difficult to read and follow.

My phone is stuck in a bootloop with Cyanogen and CWM!!!

Heyy everyone! i have a samsung sgh t989D (telus edition) and i tried to root it. I put CWM and Cyanogen on it via Rom Manager and when i started my phone up it wouldnt get past the boot screen so im stuck in a bootloop. I can get to the CWM recovery page but i dont know what i should and can do to get out of this boot loop. I backed up i phone when i was trying to use the samsung toolkit a while ago but i still dont want to lose my data. I also dont care for the rom or root anymore. So i guess im asking what the best way to unroot my phone would be. Also my phone disconnects itself from my computer at times (my laptop makes the noise that a usb has been unplugged) and im using the stock wire with a usb 2.0 port.
Can you get into download mode or CWM without it rebooting? If not, does it get partially through the boot process before going into an infinite bootloop and vibrating every few seconds? If so, you could be another victim of power button hardware failure.

If you did, you should be able to restore from backup when in CWM. If not... well... flash from an SD card?

Your not suppose mount the system, just storage. In TWRP you can mount internal or external storage. Also, I'm not quite getting what you're saying. You have tried taking out the SD card and mounting it directly on your PC and it didn't work?

In the CM9 thread it says to ensure you download/install a CWM Touch recovery - if you don't you're guaranteed to get a boot loop. Their "fix" was to download and flash darkside-wipe-cache-only.zip via recovery and that will fix the problem.
I ended up having the same issue and that's how I fixed it.

Im saying that im stuck in a bootloop and i wana get the data off of my internal storage. I can only get to CWM recovery. I also wana just go back to stock ICS but if i can fix cyanogen without wiping my phone that would be great! i tried to plug in my phone and get my computer to read it so i can browse my phone's internal memory and get the pictures off of the internal storage but it wont recognize my phone. I tried checking all of the things in CWM but none of them worked.

Call me a noob. I was on a CM10.1 ROM, and wanted to try out a new TW ROM. I installed TWRP 2.4.1.0 last week, where as before was running CWR recovery.
So this is my first time using TWRP. I rebooted from CM10.1 into recovery, was always told to wipe data, factory reset, wipe cache, wipe davlik. I always do those three things, but also read going from CM10 back to TW is good idea to wipe internal as well. I did that.
Now I go to flash my ROM, that I downloaded and put on sd/card earlier today at the office. I go to install, and there is nothing on the sd/card, it's empty ? WTF did I do ? :crying:

if you do a data wipe it only wipes internal sdcard not external. so if you have all your stuff on external it should be there. unless you wiped external by accident.

you wiped your internal sd card
so the only thing you can do now is using odin to flash a stock rom and start from stratch (root and flash new rom again)
or if you made a nandroid in your external sd, restore it in recovery.
What you did was format data with your sd card on the phone that will definitely will wipe everything. And I hqve the same experience that you had so next time I recommend you take out your sd card out

I have the ROM downloaded on my PC now. How do I transfer that onto my phone ? I plugged in phone USB to computer, but the computer doesn't see it now in recovery ?

Get your sd card out from your phone. I don't what kind of computer you have but if it doesnt suport your sd card because of the size you have tou used a card adaptor its like the ones the ise on camera's
I am screwed.
#1 I don't have an external sd/card, only what the phone came with. #2 If I go buy one, what type of adapter do they make, where an sd/card fits into a portable USB stick ?
My computer is my custom built gaming rig, no sd/card adapter on that beast, I don't think ? Unless on my motherboard ?
Best buy or any store can help you out. But you said you have only the one that came with the phone if you have a secon phone or any think that you can put it and just to open it and put the files inside that will help you or do the odin file
It appears that you are posting from a Galaxy Nexus. The major problem with an external SD is that the Galaxy Nexus does not have one.

That was a reply, due to phone being down. I have an old Verizon Galaxy Nexus, I just use at home on WiFi.

I might have an old external card from my EVO 4G days, if I can find it. But what do i do with that little card ? I don't have any adapter for something that small, never even seen anything like that before.
Other option. Get a cheap mini SD. Flash cwm recovery. mount ext SD in cwm and transfer file from computer to ext SD through cwm. Wish twrp had that option.

I am shocked there is no option once in Recovery, to mount the phone to the computer, with USB cable, and download ROM's onto the sd/card while in Recovery.
Ones you put your sd card back you nedd to restar your phone to recovery again for the phone van read the sd vard again

Also you need to format the sd card before putting in to the galaxy note reason is that sd card was in another phone. Formate or delete which ever option you may have

[Q] Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card after update to GB27

Hey everyone,
I recently updated to GB27 from GA10 and somehow Nova Prime and Swiftkey were removed from my phone. I visited the Play Store to reinstall them but I get the following error:
Error - Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card.
I'm getting along but it's been a pain in the butt. I've looked all over but can't find a solution. Some posts say to unmount the SD card and others suggest trying to delete a file named "smdl2tmp1" but unmounting the SD doesn't help and the named file doesn't exist. Does anyone have a fix for this? Please! I'm tired of the stock keyboard.
You need to flash a stock jb kernel back to your phone. There is issues with the repacks. until we get source always flash the stock kernel back.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I am just capable enough to do some damage, forgive me for this possibly stupid question...
Will flashing only a JB kernel wipe any data from my phone? I do this from the PDA section in Odin, is that correct?
Thanks by the way!
No should not wupe anything. Download stock zip and flash in recovery

This did it. Thank you!
Ok, so I'm having the same issues OP was having, but OP never mentioned whether or not he was rooted. Plus mine seems to be behaving a bit differently, so here goes:
I had flashed a GB27 rooted restore ROM to my phone that I found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191954. Prior to that I wiped and formatted both the USB storage and the SD Card and everything worked great. Yesterday, I used ROM Toolbox Pro to use the root browser to install Mobile Odin Lite so I could put AGAT trec_0.3.2 on the phone so I could do nandroid backups for security purposes. At this point both ROM Toolbox Pro and NOVA PRIME are installed with no issues. Checked phone a minute ago for a facebook update that woke me up and all of a sudden ROM Toolbox Pro is no longer installed, and neither is Nova Prime. It was just installed less than 24 hours ago and I didn't uninstall it. It still shows in the app drawer. Icons are still in place. But when you tap on them, it says "App isn't installed." I try to re-install from play store, and run into this issue. So not only am I having this issue, but apps that were previously installed are simply "disappearing" and then falling victim to this process. I can't find smdl2tmp1.asec anywhere on the phone with any root browser I download, and simply un-mounting and re-mounting the SD Card doesn't work. I can't un-mount or re-mount the USB Storage, only format. Haven't tried this yet. Rebooting the phone doesn't work. Cleared the Delvik Cache and system cache to no avail. Even tried fixing permissions in the AGAT recovery menu and still nothing. Oh, and it seems to only be affecting the apps I've purchased, none of the free apps on my phone seem to be affected in any way...
I don't quite know which kernel to flash and if there is a rooted stock kernel I can install with Mobile Odin Lite... Links and help would be appreciated, because I've been scouring the web for an hour to find a fix and nothing is working. T_T
I found the kernel in zip form here. You can find it through the forums on this site but the link I am posting is a few pages deep so you don't have to go looking. Anyway, just place the zip on the SD card, reboot into recovery, flash the zip, and reboot the phone. This worked for me and it was like a breath of fresh air after being choked for a week. Good luck!

*Edit: I am using a rooted stock ROM.

Ok, so maybe you can answer another question I have that is a bit off of the topic, but:
I just found a setting in the Data Programming mode (##3282#) under the advanced section that states: "LTE Status: LTE: <not set>." What is that about? I thought the phone was WiMax only...?
No idea what it means. It is probably left over files or settings. This phone is WiMax only so those settings will either do nothing or if changed, will mess up your phone.

So I found out what caused my issues with being unable to install to USB Storage or SD Card. I flashed AGAT_GB27_repack.tar to my device so I could do those nandroid backups... and that has to be what caused the issues because after flashing a stock GB27 kernel to the device it wiped my AGAT recovery tREC_v0.3.2 back to stock recovery... and now the device is functioning perfectly. Could you possibly link me to a kernel that comes built in with some custom recovery so that I can have something like CWM or AGAT, and one that's functioning perfectly by chance? FML. >.>'
Go look in the development forum. We have source built CWM now so that issue is no longer a problem.

I don't know if I'm just blind but all I could find for GB27 was tAGAT + GB27 kernel thing and that resulted in being unable to install to USB or SD Card and made my purchased apps disappear... again. So I had to reflash back to a stock GB27 kernel... I didn't seen any CWM kernels... >.>'

Accidentally formatted data in TWRP :(

Hey guys. So being the big, dumb newb that I am, I've accidentally wiped the o/s from my phone in TWRP. Coming from CWM I thought format data was okay, however I didn't read (DOH! never again!) and now everything is gone.
I've been searching, and searching, and panicking and searching.
I've been looking into adb and was following a post, which I can no longer find for reference, but essentially I was able to find my device using adb, but then when I tried to put the phone into fastboot, nothing would happen.
(edit: found the post. Able to complete Step 4 under Driver Installation but at Step 5 nothing happens. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796 )
I tried using adb pusher as referenced in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066630
This made it look like a ROM was on my phone, but the file wouldnt flash in TWRP. Then when I powered down and back into recovery, the file didn't appear on the phone anymore.
Anyone have any recommendations?

Do you just need to get a ROM and/or gapps to the phone to flash? Several things you could do... Mount the SD in TWRP and hook up (doesn't work for me), put the files on an external SD, or use commands with ADB (don't know them off-hand, would have to look)...
---------- Post added at 10:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:56 PM ----------
Or ODIN back to stock...
Fastest and easiest way is to pass a new ROM into your external SD card. Obviously you would have to connect it to the computer download the rom and gapps, copy them to the SD and then put the SD back in the phone and flash the ROM.
If you know how to use adb then you kore than me cause I tried once and I sucked at it.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Pull external SD out, or get one if you don't have one.
Load ROM to that.
Put SD in.
Boot to recovery.
Flash ROM.
Reboot.

Damn. Was hoping I wouldn't have to go pick up an SD as all stores probably just closed near me, but if it's as simple as that, I guess that's the least of my worries.
And I also tried the mount usb in TWRP but that didn't work for me either.
Thanks guys,
Will report back tomorrow if this doesn't go as planned. Fingers crossed.
Try:
adb push rom.zip /sdcard
adb push gapps.zip /sdcard
or flash to stock with Odin
