what OTA? Is there one pending?
And from what has been discussed here, if there is a root method, its being kept quiet so it won't be patched in the 4.3 update.

Apparently a little ota came out not 4.3 yet. Don't take it
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using xda app-developers app

Indeed there is. There is another thread discussing it but basically it updates the stability and some other things. Some also think that some security holes could have been patched. It's not really a useful update for us that contains any new features so you're better off not taking it and just waiting for a patched version if available.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using xda app-developers app

I would say this goes without saying but for the amount of responses I've seen this thread should be stickied... I don't think people understand how bad of an idea is. Worst case the new ota opens something you can always update later... But once you get into the pool... Just like hotel California you can't leave lol.

Lol I wholeheartedly agree. I've lost count on the posts I've seen about this type of thing, all cause they had no idea what the consequences are.

So basically the devs need to see if the exploit is patched in the new update. If it is, then they release it to us on 4.2.2, If it's not patched then we all move to 4.3 together?
Just thinking back to the glory days with the iPhone jailbreak team haha

Live I've said before, I don't see why devs would be interested in rooting or unlocking this new OTA or the current version most of us are running. If there is a break through it is most likely to happen after the 4.3 update. What would be the point in discovering an exploit that could be instantly patched in 4.3?

So i have SuperSU Pro, I should be saved from any OTA updates, as it wont download any updates for me unknowingly.

I feel like also on the off chance that when 4.3 does come out, that if the exploit they were saving does get patched along with it, then us on 4.2.2 would at least be able to use it. I personally am bootloader unlocked from day 1 but if I were locked I would stay on 4.2.2 until I hear a solid confirmation that an exploit is available on future updates before taking it.
That's all taking into account that there really is an exploit that they're saving until 4.3 lol.

There have been several mentions of the exploit by various trusted members here on XDA. Members don't generally attach their name to BS comments. I think there is a root method but last I heard it needed work. Obviously we won't know if this last update that fixed "stability issues" that no one had patched anything but I wouldn't be surprised.
There should just be a giant splash banner on the main forum page that reads: Welcome to XDA! Don't Accept OTAs!!

My phone just tried to update. I turned my phone off really quick and when it started back up, I put my phone on airplane mode. Apparently I upset the download and it finally stopped

I don't understand why everyone on XDA who has a Verizon HTC One doesn't send it to Sonic and get S-OFF. Then, you NEVER have to worry about OTAs, possible exploits being plugged, etc. S-OFF is the holy grail of every possible exploit and we have it available to us now. :good:

Lol ninja. So what are you gonna do? Just not make calls until the exploit is released? That could be quite awhile seeing as how we're waiting for Verizon to release it. Too bad you can't install the FOTAKill.apk without root.

I'm with ya. Mine is going out today for S-Off. The down side is if the Devs don't find a viable and sustainable root method the mod community is only going to benefit a small number of us that sent our phones off.

Smooth lol. I guess that's an option for anyone opting to not send their phone off at least. I'd think it'd get annoying after awhile. Hopefully it doesn't try to force OTA often.

I turned my phone on and it wanted to schedule a time to update! I hope that doesn't happen every day. That would be quite annoying.

[Q] OTA Update Prompting

I keep getting Nagged for an update. Anyone know how I stop it from asking. It keeps trying and trying.
Have you already got the first OTA? If so then we need to get a copy of the OTA that you are being asked to install.
What are your current build number and software number under about phone?

yep. I finally got my phone rooted again after many tries but now I seem to get a request to install an update and this time I am not going to take the chance and losing root. Does anyone know where that update sits on the phone?

CDMA, I (as well as many) know how to do this. HOWEVER, your claim MAY be valuable, hence why all the questions, and not answers to your thread. Do us a favor and screenshot your build number/software info for us. (under about phone of your settings menu). If everything checks out, we can continue to help you block the OTA updates.
What is odd is you getting prompted for OTA this late in the game. Unless you have recently applied an older RUU, you should not be getting prompted for OTA. Please provide this info. Thanks.

In that thread didn't you say that you are a tester for Verizon or something and that you got the latest update that supposedly provides 720p, wireless hotspot, etc? If so are you saying that you have rooted even after that update? If that's the case then the Unrevoked root method has not been patched by the latest update.
Cdma,
If this is the new ota then this is great news. Please post your build number and if you haven't already flash the clockworkmod recovery using unrevoked's reflash. Then we can pull the ota and unrevoked can make it root safe.
cdma head on over to the irc channel and we can help you get the ota off your phone

Did you ever try and RUU back to stock? You said you were gonna give it a shot...
I didn't want to really get into this because I could be wrong, but I work for Verizon Wireless. I looked around the pages of information we had to see if maybe there was a planned OTA update for the Incredible. We normally get warned in advance for any software updates that are being pushed to the phone. Needless to say, I wasn't able to find any information after some thorough digging. I figured that maybe this was a test that HTC was doing before releasing it to us. I asked some reps from HTC that were showing off the Incredible that day and they hadn't heard of any update coming for the Incredible. They said they would shoot me an email if they heard anything, but I never heard back. So, maybe it is true, but I'm still doubting it until I see something in writing about it.
Seeing as how we cant get a screenshot im sort of feeling its either the original OTA or total bull****. Would love for it to be neither but if i had i would find a way to get it in to the brilliant hands of our developers. I know id like to be the guy who blessed the many members of XDA with 720p video and that sweet new boot animation.(and mainly a way to keep root) Anyway ill stop my rant as thats not my style.

Are there devs getting closer to root/unlock?

I don't want to sound impatient or anything because I'm not I love my htc one as is but am just curious if any devs are getting closer to a unlock or root without the s-off tool. I've seen that there is a large bounty right now so I feel there should be devs at least trying to figure out something but it seems like I'm not seeing much info. anywhere and am only seeing people using s-off cards and stuff and I can't send my phone off. Any ideas?

There are multiple posts scattered here and there that hint/speculate that an exploit has been found and the devs are waiting on 4.3.
If you don't want to wait then send your phone off for S-Off, but please don't rush the devs. The exploit will come when it comes.
Can we lock this yet?
Just hold on tight, it will be here soon!
There is an exploit floating around, but it needs work.

Exactly why bounties are a horrible idea IMHO. Donating for people's efforts is one thing, but bounties are almost always counterproductive unless someone already has an exploit that they don't want to burn.

Why? Not "burning" exploits is a damn good idea. What happens when, lets say, the exploit was released now and then HTC took an extra week to patch it? Like getting insurance or warranty replacements? Too bad we wasted the exploit. Look what happened with the DNA and 2.04. It is literally the best idea to wait until the OTA comes out. This way, the majority of users get s-off and HTC will have a harder time patching it.

Yes, defer the OTA as long as possible until we know that there is indeed no pending exploit waiting until after 4.3 release.
Nobody take it. You do not know what they fixed or if HTC found some exploit already.
When they say they will include ISIS, is that with tap and pay? From the other thread I had come to understand tap to pay would not work because we do not have a Secure Element in our NFC, unless you get a SIM with this included. Or is ISIS different?
IF you want a CHANCE at root
do NOT take ANY OTA..
Rule of thumb
I have two wishes from this update.
1. Fix the camera.
2. A Dev ports it for us people who are S-OFF'd or rooted.
edit: Or I guess I could have read the patch update text from Androidpolice.com. Boo.
Camera fix isn't until 4.3 update according to HTC.

In all likelihood, you already have one. Unless you're using a SIM from your phone from like two years ago, its been replaced. My GN had a secure SIM in it. Here's an article describing it: LINK Then of course, from what Ive read ISIS still only works reliably in the test markets in Utah and Texas.

[Q] Ways to prevent new OTA (33 MB) from installing after it's downloaded?

So apparently VZ pushed out the update to my phone this morning. When I saw it, it was just finishing "downloading firmware". Damn. Then it asked to schedule a time to install. For now I put 11 pm tonight and did NOT check the install automatically box.
Is there anything I can do at this point to ensure it won't install?

That's good to hear... So the process won't go ahead unless you manually click yes? I definitely did not click the "install automatically" box. But my past experience with VZ OTA updates was that they will push it through regardless if they wish (thinking back to the Thunderbolt update that took away free tethering). Basically, there would be very short window (say one a minute or so) where you had to deny the update process. The thing was, VZ would pop up these requests at random time intervals, seemingly disregarding the scheduled time you set. It was just downright mean...
Mine started up this morning too. Definitely don't want this. I'm completely stock and locked down myself.

What phone did you have before? you could use that for a few days
A reboot stopped the annoying notification about the update for me.

I thought about that, but I'm in no hurry to start switching ROMs especially after reading about people not being able to make calls all of a sudden. Granted there was a fix found, but it's just too much work for me. Besides, this phone won't be locked down forever.

I'm getting the nag every few minutes now too. It sucks. I'm locked too. I've tried quitting tons of things to stop it. No luck.
you guys can freeze apps right?
freeze
HtcOMADM_SettingsPlugin_VZW.apk
and
HtcOMADM_VZW.apk
that should stop it right?
Sorry I just jumped in to give insight. I will be honest I didn't search or read so if this has been said my apologies everyone. Just trying to help.
Just click back
I got this this morning as well. I never selected a time. I just click back. This will make the box go away.
I'm sure this will get annoying so hopefully someone finds root or s-off soon.

Currently you have to be on 4.2.2 in order to use rumrunner to gain s-off. Sounds like we'll have an updated method soon, though.

Nope. Unless s-off there is no way to downgrade short of a jtag

I'm not sure when the new method of s-off will be available, but your best bet would be not to take the 4.4 update from Verizon since you can't downgrade like the previous post mentions.

Where to find new method when available?

Right, if you're on 4.3 you're stuck for now. It will posted in the Original Android Development section when it's ready. The instructions for the method will be in the thread when it's posted.

I had a similar problem. Just get into a live chat with a customer service rep and say the phone hasn't been working properly since the update. They ship out phones with 4.2.2!

It won't be long until we get s-off for 4.3. I did the replacement thing, but the phone had gaps and didn't line up...had the camera issue too. I sent it back. I'd rather have my original phone over a refurb. Just my .02 though.

In case you haven't seen it by now, the new S-Off program is called firewater, and you can follow them on twitter @firewaterdevs. They have posted a video of it in action on youtube. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it is released soon.

It's tough to say... the S4 got the 4.3 update before any other carrier surprisingly. Whether or not that was just a mad push to sell more Galaxy Gear I dunno, but perhaps their updates are starting to roll out quicker these days.

Probably a ploy to push out the Galaxy Gears. Verizon is all about $$$$$.

Perhaps. In my eyes all the carriers are all about the $$$$$.
On the other hand you would think Verizon wouldn't make such foolish decisions such as delaying the One for FIVE MONTHS. I bet they lost tons of money trying to sell their crappy Droid lineup and failing miserably. They also delayed the S4 by about a month behind other carriers. I really don't know what goes through their head honestly. Whatever it is, it's not intelligence...
