What would make you think that it is not a real Samsung S3? The phones info all appears to be fine. The imei # is different on each, so I do not know how you would look it up? Either way you should be safe from what i can tell

The error looks more like a website error (unable to load the included page).
fake or not
I looked up the number on a site and got nothing, i have a feeling it was a fake site just to steal numbers.
I even chatted with a samsung guy on the site and he said it was legit.

Bottom lime in, if you are so unsure even after out input, DONT buy the phone, otherwise purchase away!! I personally never heard of a fake SG3 but im only one person in my little corner of the world. Bet you were using this as well to check!!?? (http://www.samsunguniverse.com/samtools/samwarranty/)
Either way, i'd say take your chances!!
Looks like a problem with samsung's website, not an error relating to the phone information being not genuine.
Id say go for it. The s3 is a solid phone.

I know I would like to know exctly how old my device was when I bought it. For one thing, learning the production daye could give a guess as to how old the battery is.

Knowing the production date of your phone would give you zero indication of when the battery was produced. Unless you can garner something from the S/N I haven't found any way to determine a production date.

One indicator is what version of the software was installed when you got the phone. It would depend on your carrier as to when which version was installed.
But if your phone was new, the battery would not have lost much capacity even if it were one of the first models.
I'm also wondering if there is a way to find the manufacture date. I'm curious because my original TP2 and my warranty exchange phone have different buttons (colored send & end keys, windows key where the home key was) I just want to know which one is newer, the original or the exchange.
Hey,
I bought a Galaxy Nexus here in Vietnam and just realized that it is running a custom rom and has been rooted. The phone was new (no scratches and had the original plastic covering the screen)... My friends here tell me that iPhones are often sold jailbroken so I was wondering if this is normal here??? English is a major challenge so I'm not sure if I will be able to get more information from them...
Everything seems to be working totally fine... just curious.
Post a screen shot of settings/about phone. Do you have superuser apk installed?

Here you go...
Superuser is installed.
Not sure why the picture didn't work... here is a link.
In Vietnam beware of the originality of the phone. It's easy to reseal the phone/box/accessoires,etc.
Definitely they sold you an used item. Go back to the store to get a refund or exchange for real new one.
Hope it helps.

I agree, the OP got sold a used phone.
yeah, i was probably used, or possibly a refurbished phone.
i head of people getting a Certified like new replacement (refurbished) HTC thunderbolt that was rooted with a sense 3.5 ROM on it.
but the phone is def. not a NEW phone from samsung. also, being rooted, who knows what kind of tracking stuff could be on that phone. i would take it back and do the rooting process yourself just to make sure.

Eh, you could always just reflash the factory image instead. That'll pretty well get rid of anything that could be installed on the phone.
Or use fastboot -w to wipe it all and then reflash whatever you want to be on it.
Assuming all the hardware works, of course.

I suppose the OP is in Hanoi Vietnam.
Do you like the food ?
either you paid a very good price and the phone works perfectly, in this case just flash a full official image. You can find them on code.Google.com
Either you paid the full price for a new one or it doesn't work or look fine, in that case I would go back to the shop and ask for a real new one or a refund

Sorry I don't want to bother the OP's life. It' that because I'm from Hanoi too and I miss My hometown.
Thanks guys.... I'm going to head down there today and find out what they say. I'm hoping that they happened to get the extended battery in too!

Thanks everyone for the input on this.

If the hardware is working fine then you can just unroot and flash back to stock and you'll be all good.

What is the store's name ? street ?
or, better yet. leave it rooted and install Adfree, Titanium Backup, RM, CWM, WiFi tether etc.... Unlock the bootloader right away while you're at it (since it'll do a wipe/reset) and then go flash some roms!
I am on the lookout for a Galaxy Nexus in Mumbai, India. I want to make sure that I get my money's worth when buying the phone i.e I don't want to get ripped off by the seller.
Can you please tell me how I can know if a phone is new or used previously.
I already read but people in the comments have reported that they don't always work:

I know. That's why I posted this thread - to see if someone else would have a answer.
There's very little you can do to check if it's new or not other than call Samsung and see if someone has registered the unit with them for some reason or another. Although the seals on the box being broken would be a massive give away

When i got my nexus in the mail my buddy took it out of the box and put his phone in to play a joke on me and didn't even break the seal. I asked him how he did it and he said he didn't even realize he had done that. So no the seal is no indicator at all lol.

I find it hard to believe you can undo the seal without damaging it, I had to proper rip mine to get into the box. Perhaps the EU ones are more secure!!
Either way, unless you're getting it from an official dealer it's hard to say whether it's 100% new or not
Hi guys,
I'm planning to get the note 7. Just wondering if anyone can post an image of a brand new unit if you got one. Does it really have the letter S mark? Or the black mark? Thanks!
It has a bomb with an X over it

Mine was the canadian version. Has the black square.
Wow that's it? The black square? OK it is good to know, but those out there with malicious intent, selling defective units on the 'Black Market' can easily draw up a replica symbol on the label to pass off as new 'Safe' units.
You can check the imei on samsungs website

Unfortunately I haven't opened it or made any other observations. I sold the new one on Craigslist unopened. I wanted an exynos version so will wait to get my hands on one of those after after the dust settles from the recall.
What I did notice was that the label with the black square was on top of the original label.
So my assumption is that these units were old stock, but Samsung knew which units had the unaffected batteries and therefore just relabeled them with a new identifier(black square) to know good from bad.

Only this letter was included in the shipping box with the new phone box.
It just tells me to drop off old unit at a Samsung store. On back side of letter it just names all the locations that i can drop it off.
No mention of what happens if i don't or no mention of any deadlines to drop it off by. I originally bought my unit from Samsung.ca.
They probably have my credit card on file and would just Bill me if they didn't receive my recalled unit

I understand the difference between the two, but after a good bit of digging, can't seem to find a way to tell the two apart short of running fastboot!
Looks like the VZW ones share the same part number and come in generic looking boxes. I'm looking to buy one off CL, but don't trust the sellers as they all say Unlocked lol
Does anybody have any suggestions on how to tell them apart?

If you can't get the IMEI to check, have the seller enable Developer Options and take a screenshot of enabled Unlock for you.
Swappa is good choice too.
