Block Apps from Seeing Root - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Anyone know a way to block apps from seeing root? My work requires an app to get access to the exchange server, but it checks to see if I'm rooted. I reverted back to stock after not finding a good solution, but I miss CM so I'm hoping there's a way...

I think (keyword:think) MIUI from Notorious has that option. You could try that.
Be sure to read your company's policy though, because it may be illegal to do that.

Great idea, but would that stop the app from running as root or checking for root? My company app doesn't need root to run but it checks randomly for root access....

My bad, I think it only blocks root on a per app basis. Your companies' server will probably still see phone root access.

You can also use SuperSU in place of the superuser app and it will do the same thing. (Hides root/temp unroot)
If you think about it, there is usually a reason that an App would specify unrooted only. Rooted basically equals nowhere as secure as nonrooted. So not too surprising a banking app is paranoid about security.

Go into the supersu settings. Uncheck enable super users. Then the app will work. Renable it when you need root

If this made sense why wouldn't they stop me from using a bank site from my home PC where I also have root privileges.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Yeah this makes about as much sense as Hulu only letting certain shows on its apps and forcing you to go to the web for the full catalog.
Even the cheap $350 laptops have HDMI out now, so you can just plug in your laptop and bam, there you go. I have one that the screen went out so it's just constantly plugged into HDMI so I can browse from my TV.
But yeah, back to the original point, your bank is retarded. Not allowing a rooted phone to use it makes no difference in overall security.
Well thanks guys I figured how it all works and yes my bank is retarded but hell they all are I hate banks

Change superuser apps to SuperSU and use it's temp unroot feature. Also if you do so make sure you update SuperSU's binary's before you delete superuser

[MOD] Quick and Dirty: Enable Tether.

Attached is a quick an' dirty mod to enable tethering on our devices. This mod bypasses the tethering provision check of the stock tethering application. This can probably be done better in the Settings APK, but this was definitely the easier method.
This was built off of MDL, but should work with pretty much any version of the Stock TW firmware.
Simply replace this file in /system/app in your deodexed rom, set perms to rw- r-- r-- (644) and ensure that SELinux is set to permissive.
Go here for a flashable zip version: CLICK thanks to dragon-son for being 100% less lazy about making one.
*EDIT*
This has just been confirmed as working on odexed roms as well. Simply remove/rename the TetheringProvision.odex file, and clear Dalvik cache.
Thanks. How do I change the permissions? I mean the se linux part.

He wasn't asking how to fix permissions, but how to ensure that SELinux is set to permissive.
You can read more here:
http://selinuxproject.org/page/SEAndroid
In most cases, selinux will be set to permissive by default. If you are running a custom deodexed rom, it will most likely already have been disabled for you (if it was ever enabled). You can check this in the settings application under "About Device."

Anyhow, thanks elflip88. Thats what i was running too and i am able to disable it. But i am asking because the developer of light flow is absolutely thrilled to know i have fixed this issue that he has been trying to fix for months. But the only way to implement this fix is by either deleting the stock browser or flashing it through recovery.
I am working on modding the apk further to allow for a regular install without root. That way people who aren't rooted can still benefit. However, if one is not able to disable the stock browser, and they install my modded one, they will have two "internets" in their app drawer xD So im hoping stock system allows one to disable the browser.

T-Mobile knows more than you think...

Got a notification today telling me my device health was good, and I had to check performance and this popped up:
I rooted 2 days ago and stayed stock. Anyone know how they know this?

When your phone is rooted, it knows, and so do the apps. That's why you cannot install isis wallet if your phone is rooted. In the about section in settings, it says if the device is rooted. If it says modified then it is rooted and any app can probably see that. Doesn't mean that tmobile knows it is, but the app does, and it may, or may not report this back to them.

Actually, you granted them access by accepting the permissions. Thats why i read that stuff. And being a developer, i can usually figure out what actions fall under the required permissions too.

it seems more likely the purchase fees will be for the added features. Allcast is the perfect example. It's a CM app on the app store that has a time limit unless you pay money. That's their future. I can easily imagine a CM rom that is basically AOSP, and a collection of appstore apps that you have to pay money for to get the "Full CM experience". Of course, if you buy a CM phone (like the oppo n1), you'd get all those for free.
Or they just collect your data and sell it on their own kinda like Google
