Well, I got some issues with a Xperia Arc which I bought a while ago and have been working fine until now.
The issue is that the device doesn't turn on most of the time, it's just completely dead(no vibration, led, logo, fastboot or anything). But sometimes it does turn on, and everything works. But when I do turn off my device it just dies completely and I have to spend hours trying to fix it.
Anyone know how to solve this? I have tried with other Arc batteries and such, but the problem still occurs.
The phone has a unlocked bootloader (testpoint method).

I guess it could be hardware problem Sir. Maybe some lose connection. Did you BY CHANCE dropped it any time? Just asking sir

It's not any loose connections, as I have opened it and checked them, and the issue seems to be with the bootloader as it boots fine at times, and as long as I dont turn it off it works fine.

So if I may suggest, Sir try relocking bootloader and then unlocking officially(if DRM keys dont matter much)

Well, the issue is still there, and the phone isn't operating properly. My phone doesn't even boot up with a microsd card inserted.
When does the phone turn on? Does it happen in certain conditions or randomly?
Are you able to use flashmode (turn off, hold down Back button, connect USB cable) or enter into fastboot (turn off, hold down Menu button, connect USB cable)?
Did you do anything specific prior to this issue?

The device doesn't boot into fastboot, flashmode.
I just had the phone in my pocket, when I picked it up it was dead.
I have ordered a new mainboard, anyone want a tutorial on how to swap the main board / screen on this device?

Was really easy to fix it at home, and didn't cost me more than 20 euro totally.

So yesterday i tried to flash a new kernel (nova kernel) using cwm and after attempting to reboot, all i felt was a vibration and then nothing happened. Is my xperia s bricked? and if so is there anything i can do?
What works:
1. Able to hold power button and feel the single vibration; however, the screen remains blank after that.
2. Able to soft reset and hard reset but it does nothing
3. Able to connect to pc in flash/fastboot mode
4. Able to flash kernels and firmware (flashed full stock .55 and wiped everything, still no progress)
What doesn't work:
1. Screen will not turn on no matter what i do
2. Phone will not charge (no led, no screen)
3. CANNOT ENTER CWM!
Any help is appreciated.
Sounds almost like you're battery is dead toss it on the charger in a situation like this it can take up to 5 hours for the phone to boot.

that could be it...but i doubt it because when i flashed the kernel it was about 98% battery and i haven't been able to turn on the phone since. that plus i've left the phone charging for 8 hours last night, which ended again with no led and no screen...
i'll keep it plugged in though and see if anything happens

Well I'm out of ideas ik a hard reset is suppose to be like taking out the battery but maybe it just needs to die

After you try to boot do you get any screen response? Like backlight or a quick blink. After turning on with no screen, does the pc recognize as usb drive or mtp device? I was just thinking maybe screen failure.

when i try to boot, i only get the one vibration that signals the phone has turned on (or in my case attempted to turn on). i can keep pressing and holding the power button multiple times consecutively and still get the same result. it's like the phone turns on and then shuts down immediately.
i only get led notifications when i connect to the computer in fastboot or flash mode, other than that i get nothing.
Try reading through this ion softbrick recovery thread. There are tricks in the OP that users reported work.

looked at that thread, nothing works. closest i came to something was plugging the phone into the wall for a while until the red led came on, but then it just turns off after 2-3 hours and i'm back to square one
Some have had to leave it plugged into charger for days. Then got green led, flashed and it started.
This is just one way these phones act goofy during soft brick. You just have to be patient, as all who have recovered have said.

I had it plugged in for about 18 hours then the Red light came on.
24+ hours later the Red light was off. So I tried to flash, nothing. It was just a wasted attempted and I nothing happened.
Plugged it back in, ~2 hours later the Green light came on and I could press Power to have the Battery Screen come on.
Flashed it and it worked! Thanks for the support!
I'm not sure why the Red light went off. I'm thinking maybe the cord was bumped and the charger wasn't plugged in all the way?

Maybe you should flash your xperia back to the stock ROM. You can do that using the official Sony flashtool: http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...ocked-xperia-smartphones-video-beta-download/ . Just watch the video and (hopefully) you will understand everything. After flashing back to stock ROM you can decide what you want to do with your phone afterwards
Hopefully this solves your problem!

i tried one of the posted solutions, but in doing so i find that i can't even enter into fastboot/flash mode anymore, and i can't soft or hard reset. i only get the solid red led now when plugging into anything (pc, charger) and the phone is unresponsive to any of the buttons.

i have this exact same problem in this thread, the highlight being that the screen doesn't turn on at all, while others have been able to get to the sony logo.
it seems that everyone that has this exact problem has not gotten any solution yet.

exactly, the other problem is that sus and pc companion both won't repair the phone because the bootloader is unlocked.
i've flashed the relock bootloader ftf and it still says the same thing which is weird.
UPDATE - 46 hours and still only the red led!
Got a acro S 2 months back.. last week the screen went suddenly went BLANK. No display at all, only backlight.
Tried various method and updated using Sony PC companion to latest firmware.
I can turn on the phone. I can go into bootloader and go into flash mode. But screen is blank. When I plug in the usb to my PC, I can access the directory in the phone.
What can I do now?? Help me....
Have you tried hard reset yet??
Hold the Power button and Volume up button for few seconds. First you will feel one vibration then after a while 3 more vibration.
Then power on the device again.
If this doesn't help, then may be it could be a hardware issue.
Tried the hard reset. I even dismantled the whole phone to unplug the battery and check for any loose connection and water ingression...
I am suspecting it is hardware issue too
Anyone knows where to get cheap replacement screen?
Thank you.
Then it seems that it's a hardware fault. You may check here.

Hello guys,
I hope you can help. I'm having issues with my Arc running cyanogenmod 7 (.2 I think). I've been using cm on the device for over a year and one morning it would not turn on. I thought it's out of battery so I charged it. Later I tried to turn it on but it still wouldn't start. I further noticed that when plugged in to charge the LED was not illuminated. I tried a different battery from another arc device, but didn't change anything. (Mine worked on the other device.)
A week later or so, I tried to charge it again and suddenly the LED lit up and I was able to turn it on. Unfortunately, this was only temporarily. I checked the phone later and it was off again.
So I thought, I try to send it back to Amazon where I bought it, and maybe they don't get that I modified the software. But they did...
Any thoughts on what I could do?
Cheers,
Diophantus
Can you get the phone into flash mode or fast boot mode or have it detected by any computer?

I tried flasboot (0.9 linux) and it did not work. I'll try to get a windows machine and test fast boot
Fastboot doesn't work either. Nothing pops up when connecting the device while holding the fastboot key.
Any other suggestions?
So the LED won't turn blue if you hold the menubutton and connect the USB?
And no green LED on flashmode?
Did you do something special with the phone before it happened?

Nope, it just happened over night. Didn't flash or anything. I had been using the Wifi a lot more than usual, but nothing else.
It is strange, that it turned on that one time.
Can they ask Sony if I unlocked the bootloader or how could they know this?
My xperia m is turning off and I can't turn it on. When the screen goes black it doesn't react to pressing the power button. I have to take out the battery and wait a few minutes to turn it on again. Does anybody know what to do???

when you press volume down and connect it to pc through cable
u should be in flashboot mode and seee some drivers installing
if you don't get any response from the phone then its a total hard bricked
you will need to send it to warranty or a repair center
if possible box will be able to revive it but if not your pcb needs to be replaces
Thx manzza, the day after tomorrow I will go to sony repair center which will fix my phone? I don't know what happened to me

I have a bricked Xperia Ion that would boot loop on sony logo without being recognized by my computer and as far as I tried, I cant get it to flashmode. It's a Kernel issue because when my phone exits low charging mode, it just bootloops again until the battery drains itself.
It's a lt28at, so my bootloader is locked. Here where I live (venezuela) is difficult to find the apropiate tools to take apart my phone and unplug the battery from the mainboard, but i had already tried hard reseting my phone twice, leaving it to charge and then as soon the red led dissapears, I prepare flashtool with my firmware and connect it keeping the down volume key pressed with no luck.
I*ll keep trying, everybody says my phone is impossible to brick due to the locked bootloader but I have a question that needs to be answered:
Hard reseting the phone does the same effect than taking my batery apart and leave the phone 10-15 to reset itself?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
No the hard reset is not the same. For some reason the device will freak out causing this issue. Taking the device apart and unplug the battery is the best way to get your phone running again. It takes allot less time and is not hard to do with a bit of mechanical knowledge. If you want to try the other way then listen careful. When you do the reset with power and volume there is actually three phases. We know about the one buzz and three buzz. If you have payed attention while doing it you may have noticed that just before the first buzz the screen will bleed out and shut off. If you do that after it starts to loop from charging it should then allow you to plug it in to the computer in flash mode.
Keep in mind if it does buzz you will most likely have to start over. So as soon as you see it let go of the buttons. Hope it helps.
Ok, so I get the first buzz, then immediately i left the up button to press the down button while connecting to pc with flashmode ready? I don't know what i'm doing wrong, because it just starts to loop again.
Try reinstalling your Flash tool & the drivers of your device is might help you to detect flashboot

No you can not let it buzz. You must let go as soon as you see the screen start to bleed out. It does this just before the first buzz. Again if you watch it while holding the buttons the screen will start to shut off. As soon as you see it you must let go of the buttons. If you do it right it will shut off and then you can try to connect it with flash mode. Also before you set up your flash make sure the device connects and loads the flash driver. Then you can flash your file.

The newer Sony devices have a reset function seeing as most have internal battery's. By holding the power and volume + keys it will do one of three things.
1 After about three seconds the screen will go off almost like it bleeds out. This is force shut off.
2 If you keep holding the buttons it will buzz once. This is force reboot.
3 If you continue to hold them it will buzz three times. This is a force reset. Almost like a battery pull type situation.
Thanks so much.
With a stock kernel, how reliable is this?
