I have understanded that Galaxy W and Rugby Smart are pretty much same phone (?)
There is UMTS 900MHz support in Galaxy W and i would need that 900MHz for 3G in my Rugby Smart. I cant get even Edge with my phone, so there is no internet (unless i use WiFi).
From Samsungs site i found these specs for Rugby Smart:
GSM: Quadband:850/900/1800/1900MHz
UMTS: Triband: 850/1900/2100MHz HSPA+
According to this there is no UMTS 900MHz support
But under Service Mode I found WCDMA SET CHANNEL and there it says:
Current CH: 0
Set Downlink CH, Input?
0: Reset
Set CH Range :10562-10842
Set CH Range :9662-9938
Set CH Range :2937-3088
With little searching i found that
10562-10842 are 2100MHz DL channels
9662-9938 are 1900MHz DL channels
2937-3088 are 900MHz DL channels
So there is really no option for 850MHz and there is supposed to be 900MHz support?
I havent been able to change the range from service mode
The phone is with stock rom. Is it possible that AT&T has wanted to lock the 900MHz support so it cant be used?
Or is it the phones hardware that doesnt support UMTS 900 at all?
If it does, how can i change it?

Here is my question:
I am planning to travel to UK & Europe next month. 1 Will this phone work on in UK & Europe? 2 Will this phone support 3G or 4G network in UK & Europe? 3 What are my options with phone in UK & Europe? What network will this phone support?

My understanding is UK and Europe are on GSM 900/1800 MHz (voice, EDGE) and WCDMA 2100 MHz (3G). So you will have voice and EDGE service, but no 3G. But I have not personally been to Europe with this phone yet, so can't verify personally.

You will be able to use voice and 2G/EDGE data with any of the GSM carriers in Europe (just buy a local SIM and you should be good to go). Unfortunately, little or no 3G or 4G support (pretty sure that almost all countries in Europe support 2100 or 900 with the newer towers---850/1900 is limited to mainly the Americas and some parts of Australia, with a few other small regions here and there).

Every phone has two sets of bands.
GSM/GPRS (EDGE, 2G Bands)
UMTS/HSPA (3G Bands)
As posted earlier in the thread, most European countries use 2100mhz for 3G. So if you want a phone with 3G access, look for the 2100mhz band under the UMTS/HSPA portion of the specifications.
*Edit*: Not sure how reliant you will be on 3G but when I was in Europe last summer, data rates were not cheap. Also, Wifi hotspots were readily available in every major city that we traveled to and most times they were free to access. We purchased a cheap 'dumbphone' for emergency phone calls and used an Ipod Touch and my old Touch Pro to access the web over wifi.

Actually, 2100 MHz is Band 1 when talking about UMTS. 900 MHz is Band 8. So this phone will support 3G data in pretty much all of Europe.

Quick summary:
I have a Samsung Galaxy W sourced from Hong Kong. Specifications on Samsung HK website says it supports WCDMA 850, 900, 1900 and 2100.
I'm on Vodafone Australia which uses WCDMA 850 and 2100 in metropolitan areas where I live in.
My area has coverage of both frequency bands, but signal of 850MHz is deemed better.
The problems is that my phone sticks to 2100MHz on vodafone AU while it can detect Telstra's (another Australian telco) 850MHz signal in manual network searches.

What I've discovered so far is that my phone is missing some crucial software configuration for being on 850MHz channels. However, I don't want to root my phone or flash a new ROM as the original Hong Kong ROM is supposed to support 3G 850 MHz.
I'd like to emphasise one bit of information obtained from my phone, under Service Mode (by whatever means you get in) -> MAIN MENU -> [6] COMMON -> [5] WCDMA SET CHANNEL:
Current CH: 0
Set Downlink CH, Input?
0: Reset
Set CH Range :10562-10842
Set CH Range :9662-9938
Set CH Range :2937-3088
(10562-10842 are 2100MHz DL channels
9662-9938 are 1900MHz DL channels

4357 – 4458 (850MHz DL channels) are missing!!!)
As DL channels of 850MHz are missing from this menu, my phone couldn't have possibly registered to any 850MHz network.
Is there any way to add them to the phone? Samsung is supposed to have done that, but they left it out.

Is there a way to check that the LTE radio on the ATT SGS3 will work with the 2100mhz band LTE in Thailand? I tried an updated SIM at the True Mobile shop this morning and my phone would not register on the LTE network. When selecting "Bearer" in APN settings, picking LTE would disconnect my mobile date - setting it back to 'Unspecified' allowed me back onto HSPA+ but not LTE.
- Is it possible for a carrier to restrict the types of phones that can access their LTE network, or is it as simple as having the correct radio?
- Are there different channels on the 2100mhz LTE spectrum, and is it possible ATT uses a different channel than True is using?
- How can I diagnose my radio connection to determine what could be preventing my access to LTE on the True network?
- What is the difference between LTE 700mhz Class 17 / 2100 and 2100mhz LTE?

[EDIT] Upon closer inspection, these are loafers... er, rather I educated myself about LTE bands and AWS... a tad confusing, but going off of the Samsung website spects, the SGH-i747 is dual band LTE 4/17... which is incompatible with True's LTE band 1.
This may be the push that puts a SIV in my hands...
Hello guys.. i have a problem.. I have a optimus G with soft F180K (its for KT network) and i have a LTE plan in SKtelecom (F180S) but my LTE connection its not working. Can somebody help me by answering to this questions?

i have flashed a basebands of k to l and l to K so i can confirm, its save but i didnt got the signals.
flashing kernel should be ok too because its the same device

yes im on korean network. im not sure if both work on same lte frequencies . the apn its not a problem, i have .. but atm it shows connecting to 4G but no data in... so something its wrong.. i think its software related .. i can connect to 3G but no 4G..my phone have for LTE B3 (1800) and B8 (900).. by installing a custom rom will abtain more freq.. ? or ill have to do more than that,, and if yes what i need to do ? one link yould be nice noob friendly if possible

1: it has to be apn if your 3g works
2: software doesn't enable somethings that's not there in hardware, so if both sets have same frequencies radio and both networks uses same it will work.
skip custom and flash stock roms and if you get zero network that try your model's baseband.
but remember it is possible basebands are blocked to work on others network.

I hoped that the hardware supports more LTE freq and its only a limitation by software..

Nope,you can't enable other frequencies. That's why there are so many variants of optimus G. There is no phone supporting all LTE from al regions.Unlike 2G/3G,which have a global standard,LTE is still young,evolving and developing.
I have an unlocked ATT Note 5 (N920A). It has been upgraded via Odin to Android 7.0(QC6). According to the specifications I can find online* for this phone it supports UTMS on the 900MHz band.
I live in an area where my provider (O2 UK) only offers 800MHz ( 4GLTE) and 900Mhz (2G & 3G). However I can only get 2G and 4G LTE with this phone here. My old Note II gets a strong 3G signal with the same SIM. If I try in other locations I can get a 3G service but it appears to be on 2100MHz not 900Mhz.
If I go into Service Mode (*#2263#) on the phone band selection doesn't let me select frequencies only LTE/WDCMA/TDS/GSM in various combinations. Band Disable (WCDMA) only offers 1900, 850 and 2100. I am therefore presuming that 900Mhz WDCMA has been disabled.
I am trying to establish if
a) the N920A doesn't support 3G on 900Mhz only on 850/1900/2100Mhz - despite what the specs seem to say?
b) I have a bad N920A phone?
c) This is an Android 7.0 issue - will rolling back to an earlier version give me 900MHz, or allow me to switch?
d) There is a way to enable 900MHz and I have not yet found it - does someone out there know the secret?
Any advice or help gratefully received.
