WiFi turning on by itself - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Over the past few days I keep getting notified of local hotspots. I know I did not turn on WiFi, but when I check the settings it's one. I turn it off, and within 2 hours it's back on.
Anyone else having this issue

It was happening with me so i reflash the rom

Some apps can turn on the wifi I think.

I guess this is not a wide spread issue, so it must be some app I installed. Looks like I will be doing a reset later today.

For anyone that is interested I found the issue. I had installed Snapdragon™ BatteryGuru from QualComm. This application turns on WiFi if it thinks you are within a know WiFi hotspot. This was really effecting my battery. The software would turn on the WiFi randomly and if there is no WiFi, it would spend too much energy trying to find one.
Once I uninstalled this software everything went back to normal. Now I am getting 18+ hours under lite to moderate use.

You could just run Battery Guru, but go to settings in the app and turn off "Manage Wifi."

Removing Bloatware aka "what can I do to get better battery life?"

So I think by now everyone has realized the battery life on our A100's is mediocre. I've actually been pretty content with the usage I get out of mine. What I'm not so thrilled about though is the idle usage. I'll leave for work in the morning with my A100 at / above 90% battery and come home after 6pm with it completely dead. I have wifi set to turn off when the screen does, any app I have that has a sync option is set to 6+ hours, and I've stopped using live wallpapers. Every other electronic device I have can usually last a full day when not in use(my old netbook gets 3 hours of use on battery but 2 days while sleeping).
I've started looking into the "bloat" / OEM apps installed by Acer. Nidus, sync, socialjogger etc... My main questions are; what can be removed, what can I live without or would be better of with a 3rd party app, and which Acer apps can possibly be causing the idle/sleep battery drain? This thing should still last a full day while sleeping, shouldn't it?
Any suggestions? Anyone else have this issue? Thanks!
You could try using Bloat Freezer to freeze apps. I have alot of the acer stuff frozen, and with it in standby, easily goes a day. Things like socialjogger, acer init, etc.
These are the apps I've completely removed from system apps, made a backup of course..
AcerClockwidget.apk&odex
Agendawidget.apk&odex
Aupeo.apk
Clearfi.apk
DTG.apk
LinkToFacebook.apk&odex
MusicA.apk&odex
MyLocationWidget.apk&odex
NemoPlayer.apk
Planner.apk
SocialJogger.apk
Solitaire.apk
Xt9.apk
You can also remove appinapp butyou will loose the games multimedia app I use that so kept it.
Battery life hasn't been that bad on mine. I expected worse, I just picked mine up last week and after reading reading reviews I expected worse.

WOW! I can use mine all off and on all day and don't have a problem. There has got to be an app that you are using that is destroying your battery when idle. If I don't use my tablet all day, it will last 2 full days (with wifi kept on).
That's what I was thinking. I get a decent amount of usage from it; it's when I'm not using it is when I feel like it drains the most.
I started freezing apps last night and let it charge overnight. I've still got to go through my apps and remove a few I don't use, and check to make sure they're not syncing too often. Do you all leave your gps and wifi on all of the time or have them shut off while the tablet sleeps?

My settings are to never turn WiFi off and I always leave sync on; I like getting notifications and app updates. I have a weather app that updates every hour and Pulse news that updates every 4 hours.
I also always leave my GPS on, but there aren't many apps that use it while it is not in focus, so I rarely ever see GPS pop up on my battery usage list.
I do not use a live wallpaper.
I found that with wifi on, my tablet drains about 1.5% per hour when idle.

I suggest other than setting wifi to turn off when screen is off is to use a wifi toggle widget. You really never know what happens when the screen is off if your wifi is really turning off. Wish it was built in to the quick launch though like some Honeycomb tablet.
You can also use setcpu to setup profiles so that when the screen is off the processor stays at a slower speed rather than jumping into high gear when something wakes it up to sync. I've been able to go days without having to recharge (but I only use it for reading books, listening to the music I have on google music and play order and chaos every once in a while). I havn't touched my a100 in about 4 days and its sitting at 62% battery power.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
here is my usage, I never turn off wifi no profiles
I don't necessarily think you need to remove any of the stock app. My wifi is set to turn off when screen is off, GPS off unless I need it (apps like facebook will use it when you open it since it tries to get your location for checking in even if you're not checking in). Gmail is left at default but other mail is set to never (I just manually sync it when I open it).
If you wanna go a step further, you can install a wifi on/off widget to completely turn it off just incase an app is trying to use wifi.
With my setting my battery drains about 1-1.5% an hour when screen is off. IMO the screen is what uses the most battery. However though after conditioning the battery for 3 cycles it's been lasting longer.
I was just about ready to return / exchange my a100 so I did a factory reset on it. Lost track of time and forgot to, so I just decided to boot it back up and play with it. Left it alone at around 70% yesterday afternoon, came back home at 7pm today and to my surprise it was at 40% battery remaining. Must've been an app or setting I had that was killing it.
Probably end up hanging onto this awhile longer. Great tablet for the money!

I think with the 1gb ram on our device there shouldnt be a need to freeze any app and it doesnt defrost itself on reboot. Atleast it shouldnt.
Also I found for the most part if an app can be deleted it will let you delete it by dragging the app icon in the upper right in the app drawer. This is probably the safest way to delete rather than doing it in root explorer or TU.
This might be a dumb question but is it possible you have wifi issue that i've had on 2 a100s which will prob cause it to use more battery as its trying to work harder locking on.
It seems for the moment my battery issue was resolved with a factory reset. I have nearly the same apps on it now as before and my a100 hasn't been dying overnight. Don't believe I've frozen anything this time around either.
I don't think ram has a whole lot to do with it. I just figured some of these apps were starting themselves or syncing often, causing the battery drain.

Do you have a lot of widgets that requires syncing like youtube, twitter, weather, facebook? Those are the apps you probably what to check. OR you can just turn off wifi if youre not surfing or streaming.
Here's mine with wifi turned off. It was at 89 but I had to turn on wifi so I can find a screen capture app in the market. I have lots of apps including facebook, twitter, weather widget, which cant sync cause the wifi is off. Have not removed any stock app. I know this doesn't really answer what you asked but I'm just thinking something else might be wrong other than apps. Maybe its your battery not holding correct charge. Have you tried calibrating the battery?
I tried calibrating the battery the first time around. This time (after the reset) I haven't done anything special and have so far been getting 2 days of idle/light use before needing a charge. Satisfied so far. I was mainly concerned that I wouldn't be able to go on a trip without it needing a charge while sitting in my bag for a day without use.

[Q] Wifi and cell Reception stop working after screen is shut off?

When I turn off the screen of my phone, I lose my wifi and data connections. The icons of them in the status bar turn white rather than the usual green. The only way I have found to fix this is to put the phone in airplane mode then take it out. Which is really inconvenient EVERY time I want to use this. I know that when the WiFi turns green it means that the phone is connected to Google. But it never goes back from white to green even after I let it sit for a few seconds and try something to push data through. Even when it's green it doesn't work until I reset the radio.
Things to know:
1. I am rooted.
2. It is the AT&T LG Nitro HD (LG P930)
3. It is the V10f software version.
4. I have not tried a factory reset yet because of the hassle. Yes I know about titanium, it's just time consuming.
If anybody else has this problem, please let me know. Hopefully we can get this fixed.
Update: I fixed my problem by installing Wi-Fi fixer. But it still makes me mad that this occurs. Maybe we can try to find the source of the problem.

Nope, I'm not running juice defender. The only task killing app I use is Advanced Task Killer which I only ever use when I need to quickly restart an app, I don't use it every 10 minutes like some people do.
I had a weird incident where I lost my wifi radio...wouldn't detect any wifi ssids...don't know what caused it. But your situation seems similar...sadly I have know idea how it got fixed...rebooted phone a couple of times and haven't had a problem since.

Wifi Battery Drain

Hi guys
I have a LTE Note II and have had this battery drain on standby where wifi will absolutely destroy my battery. This has been going on for months and months and I'm just not sure if Samsung are ever going to resolve this and it is quite the pain in the arse.
I've done many tweaks to my phone, and all location services are off. Also, I've set it as a static IP, but nothing seems to help. I think this is related to the wlan_rx_wake wakelock? I get the impression my phone is responding to the wifi and getting woken up constantly.
Does anyone else experience this and do you have any suggestions?
P.S. please don't mention my apps causing it. It definitely is not. I know my way around Android and also, my Nexus 4 with the same setup (but location + google now turned ON) absolutely annihilates my Note II battery life on standby. This is clearly a Samsung problem that they have ignored for the best part of a whole year, and it seems to be related to wifi.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Do u have some figures about this battery drain to be able to compare with my phone?
It could be a bad modem/connection. What is your configuration?

No exact figures but I have been observing it for months now and it hasn't been the case with any other phone I use. With wifi on, it'll drain around 20% overnight. With Wifi off, it'll drain 5 or so %. With Wifi on on every other phone I own/owned, it will barely drain at all overnight.

Stock ROM. And yeah, but it is constantly being woken up.
Sorry for the bump, but this hasn't changed.
I'm not sure if this is to do with just the N7105, but it is something that just won't go away. I'm now finding I lose between 20 and 30% overnight (around 7 hours) with wifi on, or about 10% with data on. With these both turned off but the phone radio still being on, it only drops about 2% in the same time. This was tested with bluetooth/gps and sync turned off.
I don't really have the time to write up everything that I have tried, but suffice to say I have tweaked the phone a lot over the past few months trying to sort this out, but nothing works.
Here is a quick summary of the stuff I have done.
Firstly, I have to run a stock rom and kernel because there is an app I need that will not work on custom roms/kernels. It also doesn't work on root but I have found a procedure to toggle unroot/root when need be and it works fine. Therefore I'm stuck on 4.1.2 as I want to be rooted but I cannot use any custom rom or kernels.
I have tried factory wiping the phone/installing later versions of 4.1.2, etc etc and the same problems still exists with a freshly wiped phone and no apps installed. This problem also doesn't happen with my Nexus 4 or any other phone I have owned with the same setup, so I am very certain it is not due to a misbehaving app.
I have frozen a lot of bloat with titanium backup, I have hibernated a hell of a lot of stuff with greenify (including system app where there are no perceivable negative consequences)
I have added a few tweaks to the build.prop such as to disable fast dormancy and a few other supposed power saving ones which are meant to help with the msm_hsic wakelock.
There are many other things such as setting a static IP, and also tweaking with my router based on some advise I found on these forums. Nothing much has helped.
Location services and google now are off, and I'm not using the Samsung bloatware apps.
I use betterbatterystats and the partial wakelocks are fine. Very low infact.
However, IMO it is two "kernal wakelocks" which are causing me the problem.
wlan_rx_wake - in regards to the wifi
mdm_hsic_pm0 - in regards to the data
These are by no means outrageously high. My estimation is perhaps 10 mins wake up time and around 2000 "expire time" (whatever that means) every 3 hours or so. However, these two are always the highest kernel wakelock depending on if i'm using wifi (wlan_rx_wake) or data (mdm_hsic_pm0). My phone is also not being kept awake too long too in general.. at a guess around 3 hours awake time for every 2 hours screen on time for every 15-20 hours.
I can't remember if these kernel wakelocks were super duper high in the past, and the fixes I tried actually lowered them, but I still notice this massive Idle drain when on data or wifi (just over 1% per hour - or 2-3% per hour respectively).
In regards to the Wifi.. I suspect that packets are being sent from my router which are constantly waking up my phone. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to solve this problem with any of the router-side fixes I've tried.
This leads me to suspect that the wifi and data radio of the N7105 is power hungry, or I've had a faulty unit since day one. I keep hearing about this stellar battery life for this phone but, for me, the best I've ever got is around 20 hours. This may sound good but the problem is it is 20 hours with 6 hours screen on time, or 20 hours with 2 hours screen on time. This doesn't seem to make a difference where I should be getting two days when I only have 2 hours screen on time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and any experiances of others with the N7105 may help find out if it indeed is more power hungry. I'd also like to add that my network does not support 4G yet so this is all on 3G and NOT LTE.
Thank you, and sorry for such a long post.

I ain't expert...
but, I would suggest like this :
Go to wifi, press menu and then Advanced (advanced setting of the wifi).
uncheck/untick "Scanning always available"
"Keep wifi on during sleep" = set to Never.
uncheck / untick "auto network switch btwen wifi network and mobile networks"
all these helps me to minimize the usage of wifi during night times (when I sleep). Anyway, device also need to have a deepsleep
Hope can help you as well.

[Q] HTC One X MaximusHD 21.1-Some apps have problems with connecting when using WiFi

So today I've installed latest MaximusHD rom for HTC One X, and everything is super fine, except for one thing - when I'm trying to connect to my Skydrive (using official app) while on Wi-Fi I just can't do it. After awhile it just says that I should check if I have a connection. The problem does not occur when I switch to Data Transmission. Other apps usually are able to connect but it seems slower than when using Data Transmision.
I have installed the WiFi update, and when using Google Play, or browsing the internet it seems to work just fine... I also switched from Superuser to SuperSU, but the problem occured before that so I don't think it had anything to do with that (noob question - which should I use? Superuser was there by default, but is ist actually better, or there is no big difference?)
Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the app?

I tried, it's still very slow.
Other odd thing is that when I turn on Data Transmission it's always showing the "H" symbol, even in the places where it previously showed "3G" or "3.5G", now it never switches. What does it mean? The speed seems fine though.
This happened to me too. And it's happening to YouTube and google play.
Could it be because I didn't do the OTA update?
In that case i have a little question: if I update the OTA do I/will it wipe all data?

Well I did the OTA update almost right away (after intalling few apps), and I saw the problem after that, so I don't think it has anything to do with that although it's suppose to fix WiFi. Oh and it didn't wipe my data.
EDIT:
Well I can't post in MaximusHD thread yet so I'll ask here, does everyone using this rom experience such a tremendous drop in battery life when using Data Transmission? On WiFi it's normal, but when using cellular it drains 5-10% in 10 minutes... That seems absurd.
bump. Seriously? Anyone knows if this problem with power drain when using cellular data transmission is also present in other clean Sense 5 Roms? Or is there a way to fix that, or maybe there is an update underway?
I just switched ROMs but was getting a full days use out of a charge. WiFi at work and home all day. So I never really used hspda.

Yes! It does this for me too. It seems to drain at something like 1% per minute for me when I have mobile data on. Wifi also drains it quickly, but not as fast. I posted about this in the Maximus thread (some other issues too) but nobody has replied. Good to know it's not just me.

Yep, hopefully there is going to be some kind of fix, I really wouldn't like to go through the whole configuration, app instalation, etc. process again.
Ok, so another thing is - some icons in one of the folders on my home screen disapear. It's always in the same folder, and only in this one, others seem to be unaffected.

Issues I'm having:
1. Crazy battery drain when I enable wifi, but particularly bad when I enable mobile data. I have a Tasker profile where if I enable wifi and connect to my home network, autosync and GPS are enabled for 2 minutes then disable themselves. Last night my phone was on 61%, I enabled wifi, and immediately it dropped to 56%.
2. When I go to bed at night I turn my phone off. If I put it on charge at night it gets to a certain point and the phone switches itself on! One night last week it switched itself on at about 89%, so I switched it off again, and about ten minutes later it switched itself on again!
3. I use Google Calendar, not the HTC one. I seem to be unable to disable the HTC calendar - the only option is to "freeze" it in my backup app.
Aside from these things, I really like the rom, but these three issues are making me wonder if I should try something like ARHD and see if the same things are present there.

Well I don't know how it is with the phone turning itself on, because I'm not turning it off to begin with.
The thing with calendar - it seems to me it was also like that when using official Sense 4+, so I don't know if it's fixable.
I think I'm going to switch to ViperX Sense 5 Rom, people seem to say good things about battery life in this one.

Yes, I know some people think the idea of switching a phone off is somehow weird, but I turn mine off at night. As an experiment I just switched my phone off here in work, plugged it in to charge it (it was on about 93% - charged overnight and it has lost 7% since I switched it on when I got up for work at 5.30) and lo and behold it powered itself on when it reached 100%. I don't want this to happen.
The calendar on Sense 4 could be disabled - I know this as I had it disabled! I prefer the Google calendar, so I disabled the HTC one. On this ROM you can only hide it, or backup apps allow it to be frozen, which is what I've had to resort to.

Well then since nobody seems to know what to do in our instance, and I have no idea if there is some kind of update for MaximusHD underway, we propably will have to switch the Roms. I usually had the mobile Data Transmission turned on all the time when outside my apartment and while it did drain the battery more than WiFi it still was enough for 8+ hours of being on with medium usage (sometimes with battery saver option ticked when I needed to be outside for a longer period of time). Now the phone would be dead after few hours.
EDIT:
Today I switched for ViperX Rom, and all of the issues I wrote about seem to be gone, Skydrive app no longer has any issues with connecting. Although I'll say something more about batery life in 2-3 days when I'll actually have a chance to see how it works. In general I can say that this ROM is a lot more customizable, and has lots of tweaks (greeat ones) I haven't seen in Maximus, but still I'll wait for a few days with my final opinion.
Ok so after using it for a few days I can tell that the ROM itself is just better in sheer terms of funcionality. First thing I noticed is that I can now put more than 16 shortcuts into Folders, the icon grid in app panel is 5x6 so now I have 3 pages to scroll instead of 7. WiFi seems work more stable but I can't say that it worked bad in MaximusHD. When it comes to battery drain while using Data Transmission - it's still there, but after a few cycles of charging it seems to get better bit by bit, if it still changes I'll let You know. ROM comes with lots of additional tools, and allows heavy customization, and reclocking the processor for better battery life. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I don't know what about the phone turning itself on, because I don't switch it off. In terms of the callendar I also use gogle one and I just turned of sync options in the one provided by htc. Also I'm not sure if while installing the rom You are able to choose not to install the HTC callendar.

I've gone back to my old Orange-branded 4.1.1 / Sense 4+ build. Battery life has gone through the roof, HTC calendar is disabled, everything works, no problems. As for the phone powering itself on, well, something odd happened there...
When I decided to go back to the old build I restored my Nandroid backup and reflashed my old boot.img, taking the phone back to its old setup, and all seemed well, but that night I switched it off at bedtime (still find it weird that so many people think I'm freakishly odd for daring to switch my phone off from time to time) and lo and behold, some time later, it switched itself on again! The next morning I did some searching about removing the Clockworkmod recovery, followed the instructions, and also relocked my bootloader for good measure, and guess what? Since then it hasn't powered itself on while charging. So all I can gather from this is it was either Clockworkmod or having an unlocked bootloader that caused my phone to power itself on, because as soon as these two things were changed it has behaved normally.
So anyway, I'm going to stay on this build until Orange get around to releasing 4.2, or my contract expires in April, whichever comes first. Probably the latter, as according to a post I've seen from Orange themselves they reckon the update will appear 3-6 MONTHS after the manufacturer releases it.

Heh I'm alson in Orange (poland), and we got info that the update will show up sometime mid-december. I just got tired of waiting for them to update that's why I ended up with custom roms.
Maybe it was CM fault? I'm using TWRP, tonight I'll turn it off and see if it powers back itself during the night and let you know.

WiFi crashes after phone goes to sleep

Hello,
I have recently factory reset my OP3 due to a battery drainage issue. Google play services started using around 30% of my battery and consequently my SOT decreased by a lot.
After the factory reset, I freshly installed of all my old apps, and I downloaded my photos from the Gdrive.
Unfortunately, since then my WiFi is acting strange. Whenever I start the phone, the WiFi is performing normal, but after a while my phone goes into deep sleep and my WiFi disables itself (just like i configuered in settings). However, when I wake my phone, my WiFi won't turn on and when I go to the WiFi settings the phone becomes extremely laggy.
I have already wiped my cache again but I don't know what else to do.
Any help is appreciated!
Kind Regards,
Same strange problem here,I must reboot phone to connect wifi.
I trying with 3 kernel, it's not kernel problem.
It's such a strange problem. I don't understand why this problemwould occur after a complete factory reset...
I had the same issue a few years ago with my HTC One M7.
By the way, my OP3 is completely stock running Android 8.0
Same problem with my 5T on 5.1.1. Weird thing is I haven't made any changes, just updated a few apps but none of them should be causing wifi issues and settings (battery history) to lag after sleep.

I have set wifi to always on and don't have this problem. May be the doze feature is affecting it in your case. Why don't you try the always on setting? For me it doesn't drain the battery also. So no harm in trying it.
And why settings not responding? I must touch home button in order to have working settings again.
I think it's Oxygen Os problem.

The problem does not occur if I set WiFi to always on. However, this uses way more battery in my case.
If i set WiFi to always on my sot decreases from 4-5 hours to 3-4 hours.
EDIT:
I also can't find this issue anywhere else on the internet.

Can't find anything either. You have any of these apps installed? Substratum, Microsoft Remote Desktop, Twitch. Updated these apps two days ago which is when I noticed this problem, haven't change anything else really. Updated router firmware too (Virgin Media).

I can only think of factory resetting again and checking the behaviour of wifi before installing any other apps and downloading photos. Then you will know whether an app or the downloading is the cause and take action accordingly.

No, I haven't installed any of those apps. However, since the factory reset I started using the regular Chrome instead of Chrome Beta.

I could also test that with the phone in safe mode, right?

I think so, yes.
I just disabled all third party apps, and the problem still persists
I have set wifi always on,and flash HolyDragon kernel, problem it's gone.
I don't know if kernel, or settings always on wifi, resolve my wifi connection.
I've been having the same problem too as of yesterday. Did a factory wipe and reinstalled Oxygen 5.0.1 but still having the issue after i reinstalled apps. going to try a factory reset again and not install or update any apps to see if maybe a recent app update is causing this.

IT didn't work for me. Right after flashing the OS back onto the phone and connecting to WiFi, i changed the WiFi setting for "Keep WiFi awake when asleep" to "only when plugged in" and after locking the screen and waking it back up a few minutes later it still wouldn't activate the WiFi; I had to manually go into the WiFi settings and turn WiFi back on.
On the bright side though, I did do some reading on the "Keep WiFi awake when asleep" setting and several sources said to leave it on "Always" since it actually drains more power turning on the WiFi radio when the phone wakes up. I've since changed that setting to Always and over the last two days I've noticed slightly less battery drain!
It happen to me too. Cant turn on wifi after waking up from deepsleep. Must reboot the phone. I had tried to clean everything , data, system, cache, everything and made a clean flash but it still happen ,only for 8.x android. I tried in Nougat and see no such problem. Im using oneplus 5t
Yea, I have same problem staring with oreo update. Can say, that I tried all kernels around, and some of them made wifi connecting faster or even reduced the number of crashes, but not completely. Sadly, I can't stay on those kernels, coz I have another problem, - iv got random reboots with most of them, only stock works... So every solution is inappropriate for me, and I reverted to nougat waiting for Android 8.1
Same problem here. I am on beta 35. Additionally I was on Franco kernel and had random reboots. Kernel back to stock no more reboots but still the wifi issue. I'll test the always on.
Hopefully it gets fixed in the next update. For now, I'm using the ''always on'' WiFi option.
Thank you all for the replies!
