[Q] PC can't seem to detect Kindle Fire? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I plug in my Kindle Fire to my PC, nothing happens. Why is this?
The Fire charges its battery when plugged in to the PC but no notification whatsoever that says it's connected. Windows explorer doesn't show up and I can't find it in My Computer either. Using XP by the way.
Also, may or may not be related to the problem but, when I charge my Kindle Fire it stops charging when I use it, but when I put it on sleep mode it resumes charging. Can I not use the Fire when I'm charging anymore? I used to be able to do it but for some reason I just can't anymore. Is it broken?
But in all honesty I'm not really bothered by the charging problem that much. What I'm more concerned with is the fact that I can no longer transfer files to my Kindle Fire from my PC. How do I fix this?
Please help!

I am sorry but what is this "debugging"? I'm a total newbie and I have no idea what that is.
Edit. Actually, I haven't done anything to my Kindle as of yet because this is the first time a problem has occurred.
No unbricking, debugging, etc etc (any of those technical terms).

So you are running at 100% stock and not rooted? What software version is your device running currently?

Yes, no changes made whatsoever.

I don't know how to find which software version I'm using but my Kindle Fire's system version is 6.3.2_user_4110520. First generation if I'm not mistaken.

Well, the first generation Kindle Fires enable USB mass storage automatically when the device is plugged in, and considering you haven't made any modifications to the device whatsoever, one has to assume the problem is either with your computer or the device's USB port. The USB ports for the first generation devices have always had a problem with coming loose, so you might want to see if finagling the plug will make any difference.
Unfortunately, the charging problem you mentioned earlier causes me to think that the latter is most likely the case.

I was afraid it would be this. *sigh*
Which would cost me less, though. To buy a new one or to have it repaired?

[Q] KF2 powers down when I plug in

Please help. Used the one-click to install, had issues with my computer finding the Kindle. I restarted the Kindle, however, now the Kindle immediately shuts down when I attach any USB cable (wall cord, factory USB, or USB). I am able to power up only when the USB cable is not attached to the Kindle. Has anyone seen this before? What can I do to fix this?
The Kindle works fine when not plugged in. I'm leaving it plugged in overnight to see if it allows a charge. I've tried the hard reset (no change), and using the factory cable (immediately shuts down). It's strange, because the Kindle is aware of a signal when I plug the cord in, so I hope that I'm right in thinking that it's not a hardware issue.
Any suggestions to fix this would be most appreciated.
Thank for your help.
I saw a similar situation a while back. The user had a demo KF2.
If yours is a demo, that may be why.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is a demo? I purchased the Kindle new through Amazon.
UPDATE: I left the Kindle plugged in overnight, and it fully charged the unit. This has to be a software issue, I'm thinking. Is there a way to perform a software reset on this unit without using the USB?

Six quick presses on the power button should start a factory reset on the default software. I never tried it myself while I was on the normal software.

Just tried, all it's doing is changing the lock screen. Am I doing this right?
If you have normal use of the device while unplugged, just go to Settings > Device > Reset to Factory Defaults

[Q]AFTV hangs during rebot

Hello,
I noticed the following behavior: when an USB-hub is attached, the AFTV hangs during the boot-time on the white 'amazon' logo.
When I disconnect the USB-hub the boot succeeds.
Its an active USB-Hub with 4 USB-2.0 ports.
If an usb-device (mouse/keyboard/hdd) is directly attached (without the hub), no problems at all...
Anyone else noticed/observed this ?
Not happening with my Targus 4-slot USB Hub.
Did you already have more than one thing hooked in before boot?
Maybe a removable storage stick could cause a boot failure.

Its even happening, if only the hub, without any attached devices, is connected...
But nice to hear, that this is not a general problem.
Thank's!

More then likely there is something about the hub you use that is making the FTV think it is attached to a PC and forcing it into fastboot mode.

So I know if you plug a computer with an A to A cable it stays in the bootloader to allow you to use fastboot. I wonder if it sees something plugged in and just is like "oh well" and stays in the bootloader.

that makes sense, because it will stay in the amazon logo (not animated) and will not move to the animated amazon fire tv logo. wish i could stop that tho

If it's staying on the white logo, then it is definitely in fastboot. I haven't messed with it much, but I did notice once that the Fire TV was being powered by the USB port, which caused boot issues. It's possible that getting power through the USB port is enough to put it in fastboot. Perhaps your harddrive or hub is sending power to the Fire TV, causing fastboot to kick in.

im guessing so, its a 1tb usb 3.0 drive which im using one of those Y cables to give it power from a usb outlet otherwise it will just click from lack of power.

Ah, there you go. It's the Y cable that's causing your issue. If you used a powered USB hub you probably won't have this issue.
Hmm i see, i will try the powered hub. Thanks for the input. Will respond back when i get it and post rwsults
I also have this issue. I have a powered usb hub with 10 ports. I use it to plug in my HD and RF remote and RF keyboard. It will not reboot. It just stays stuck on the white amazon logo. I thought It was stuck in boot loop. Now I know the powered usb hub is the problem. I unplugged it and now FTV boots as normal. So I guess we can't have powered usb hubs?

powered hubs and non-powered hubs worked for me with usb flash sticks and 2.4Ghz keyboard. Never tried a HD.
This happens to me when using a Powered USB Hub, it will not boot and stick to the first Amazon Logo.
When I'm using the same USB Hub with no power cable plugged it, it boots successfully.

As far as I remember, the first time I have plugged it powered it had nothing connected to it.
But I might be mistaken and It had a 2gb usb connected to it...

Dead Nexus 7 2013

Hi All,
I've been looking into the forum and came across couple of issue with 'dead' nexus 7 but none of them applies for mine. I was browsing the device, when suddenly it flashed and powered down. Now the table wont charge (there is no battery logo) and even the table wont powering on. I tried both with power and usb charging (for long hours).
The device is recognized by adb drivers (as unauthorized) hence could not do any modifications and not recognized at all by fastboot. I was wondering if someone had similar issue in the past with nexus 7 2013 (2nd gen) or similar android tablets/handsets.
I appreciate any help!
Thanks

How is it recognized in ADB or fastboot without powering on? My understanding is that the tab would not turn on if the battery is dead since it doesn't use the current supplied through USB directly. It could be something as simple as that; or the battery connector came off as it is rare one would go out abruptly like that.

It is recognized in ADB as an unauthorized and every command is type the response is "error: device unauthorized ...." Is there a way to Enable USB debugging from command line (windows/linux)? There are no blinking leds, and cannot boot it up into recovery mode.

I understand your saying "it won't power on" to mean nothing happens when you try to turn it on- as in it's totally dead. In that state, PC won't even see anything, let alone recognize an ADB device. You might want to backtrack a bit and tell what you did, what happened, and what you're trying to accomplish now, and maybe someone can help.
Does it turn on at all, and if it does, how far would it get?

Thank you for your reply.
After troubleshooting I noticed that its not dead since i am able to see the devices under adb devices. I also noticed that the device isnt dead because it rang when I clicked locate my device from my google account.
I think its the display which is faulty. I will buy an HDMI cable for the nexus 2013 device and connect it to hd tv to mirror the display.
Thanks

Fire TV USB devices not recognized

I've been using my Fire TV with a Logitech wireless keyboard\mouse combo device and just recently i've noticed the fire TV isn't recognizing that anything is plugged into the USB port.
How do I fix it?

I run into this issue on occasion and have found that disconnecting and reconnecting the Fire TV power cord from the wall outlet solves it for me.

Are you using a hub? If so try going directly into USB port or different hub. Is it just the keyboard or is nothing getting recognized?

nope, no hub.
but I just happened to grab the keyboard I was using and turning it on to see if it would work, didn't need to use it, just happened to try and test it, and it worked. I didn't do anything.
so I figured it was maybe the batteries (even though I had tried plugging in a flash drive when I was originally trying to diagnose and fix the issue) and put it on the charger (it's a rechargeable wireless keyboard\mousepad.)
so I don't know what was causing it, but last I checked it was working
Thanks, worked a treat.
