Hey,
I recently rooted my SGS3 using odin which worked flawlessly. Thereafter I installed CWM and began the fun of trying out new roms... Tried slimbean which was just ok for me. I read that Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 was one of the best so I installed this on my device. My fop-aw here was I didn't know you needed to install the google apps before you flashed the rom. I tried to install an version of google play via sd card apk file, but when i open the app it imediately closes. Right now i am stuck with a rom with no way to install the apps I so dearly enjoy lol... So.... now for the problem, I can no longer get access to CWM to reflash the rom even when I do the whole power, volume, home like before. It goes to download mode instead of the CWM recovery. What can I do to remedy this situation. I only know as much as I have read so lets pretend i am a dumbass. lol
Thanks in advance,

Volume up + power + home = recovery. Volume down + power + home = download mode...
And u flash the gapps after u flash the ROM.
if you still have issues accessing cwm then I suggest you download Rom manager apk install it and flash cwm using it. I got cwm through Rom manager, but then I now flashed latest philz recovery.
use Rom manager to install recovery and cm10.1.3 is already rooted so u will have success
cheers
Thanks
Worked like a charm thank you very much for your time.
? though it worked but not.
After installing Rom manager I had it load up my recovery file. I clicked on the backup file and... It rebooted taking me to CWM recovery screen but with only few options to choose from: reboot system now, apply update from external storage, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partiion, apply update from cache... Obviously I am doing something way wrong. Any ideas?
Try starting Rom Manager and selecting boot into recovery.

Hey guys hope someone can help me out here. I just updated my phone to the latest OTA Rooted ROM and everything was working fine. Then I used Rom Manager to download the latest Fresh 3.0.?? ROM. When it downloaded it asked if I wanted to backup ROM and wipe data. I checked both on. Then phone rebooted and it wont get past white HTC Evo4G screen. I did vol down and power and I go to Recovey and again it freezes on this screen. I cant access my sd card to put any recovery stuff on the phone. How do I get past this?? This sucks

I had the same issue this morning loading the new Fresh Rom. "Stuck at White HTC EVO" screen. Just do a battery pull to restart your phone and let it boot up normally. It should be able to load after that.
Thanks a lot fuzion. I could have sworn I tried that last night but I guess I didn't. So I guess no Fresh ROM ?? Anyway to get it on ?
You could try loading one of the PC36IMG zips on your sd using an adapter to go back to stock and start over
Well I got my phone back on and working with the 2.2 OTA rooted back the way it was. I go into ROM manager and I made sure to do the ClockworkMod Recovery install. When I turn on the phone with vol down + power I select Recovery it just freezes on the Evo 4g screen. Never takes me to the recovery menu like I used to have. Anyone have any idea why??
Let's do a checklist:
1. Full root including NAND unlock (i.e. NOT Unrevoked)?
2. Installed and re-installed latest ROM Manager, and then latest CWM?
3. Copied Fresh 3.1.0.1 to root of SD card?
4. Booted into recovery using either CWM option or power+volume up?
5. You don't have an old PC36IMG.zip on your SD card, do you?
6. If you can get into recovery, do all your flashing from there, and DON'T FORGET to do data, cache, and dalvik wipes.
7. If all else fails, maybe use CWM to flash Amon RA instead and try that way.
8. If all THAT fails, go back to toast's guides and re-root everything.
Other long shots: Install Titanium Backup and use that to install BusyBox. I have no idea if this would help, maybe it's totally unrelated. Also, you could use an app called Quick Boot to reboot into recovery, but if selecting the reboot option from CWM doesn't work, I don't know why QB would.
And one more thing: Don't be throwing the term "bricked" around when you're clearly not even close to bricked.
Anyone having issues with either of these, I just had to warrenty my wifes phone, so when I got it back I rooted it no problem then of course first thing I want to do is a nandroid backup, so I flashed the newest cmw 6.0.1.5 it hangs on wipe cache, tried to reinsatll cmw a few times same thing. so then I installed twrp newest version, it installed and when I go into recovery(the screen with the twrp logo and gray background) I get the home screen with no options, again tried several times to install same issue, lastly I tried the touch version of CMW keep getting errors, cannot open cache etc. Any Ideas??? I really need to clear the cache between different roms, shouldnt have to use super wipe, besides have no clue where to find that anymore. Im personally on a sgs3 and all works well. I'm very familiar with bot of these as I flash non stop on my sgs3 but Huston we have a issue here! UGH
Thanks Rob
I would recommend that you odin clockworkmod tar so you can flash superuser zip from it. Once you have root/superuser, download goomanager via playstore. Run install script andbit will download then flash the latest TWRP by itself.
TWRP is the best recovery i have used.

Hi,
I have owned a Gio S5660m for a while and I am now looking into putting a custom rom on it.
I was hoping to put marcin1147's CyanogenMod-7-20120920-NIGHTLY-gio

What do I have to do in order to make my phone work with this?
From what I can tell I have to keep something from my stock but I am a bit confused.
First time doing this...
Thanks,
To enter Recovery: Reboot then Hold Power + Home buttons. When phone turns on and you see android logo, stop holdin power button but keep holding home button until you are in Recovery
If you are on RFS: Download ext4-formatter.zip to the root of your sdcard & Flash it through Recovery
Download the ROM you chose, to the root of sdcard
Download ClockWorkMod Recovery to root of sdcard
Reboot to Recovery. Flash CWM & Reboot to recovery again. Wipe data & cache. Format system.
Select the ROM and flash it. Then Reboot.
You can search for videos on YouTube to guide you even more on this...

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your response. I am dling CWM from your link right now.
For the most part can I do these installs without a PC?
Next thing, if I run into problems and I need to go back to my stock build I can create a backup of it after I install CWM right?
Thanks,
Glenn
Yeah, but only with cwm with rfs support
You cant make a backup of the stock rom, because it uses the rfs file system, while CM uses ext. If you want to revert back to the original stock, with original recovery, then you need to use ODIN, doing this will also reset everything on your phone. If you use the rfs version of cwm, you can then make a back of your stock rom. But you wont be able to flash any of the latest roms out there.
P.S. IF you do flash CM7, can you tell me how the call quality is, when you run CM7 vs stock. tnx ^^
success
So far so good. I am just putting some apps back onto my phone now.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Just have to configure my apn & proxy app to get data working. Then I will have to figure out how to change launchers for the Mod I put on.

Go Swype working, so far I am looking this mod.

Peter, I have PM'd you, but will post this info publically so others' can help (at will)..
My 5660M and setup is a mess, and I want to start from the beginning again.
Here it is (please don't laugh):
1) I'm using a defunct, abandoned ROM, ArpegGioMod, that has been getting worse and worse.. force closes, usb tether doesn't work, WiFi is intermittently having issues, etc. this could either be due to my ROM (think so) or my Windows box setup.. not even gonna both with re-odexing, as I don't want to continue using this abandoned ROM
2) I'm using Link2SD, because I was too foolish to properly install A2SD; L2SD has screwed up app performance on numerous occasions..
3) I'm using an outdated CWM (I think)
I have two other Gio's, both of which are stock and I have rooted and unlocked successfully. They are sitting here until I find a foolproof way of installing an easy to use ROM with functionality in mind.
What should my next step be? Why are Canadian phones such a pain in the ass to work with?
Hi
i figured out how to update my original firmware of 4.1.1 on my Note 2 N7105 LTE to 4.1.2 by downloading this tar.md5 (N7105XXDLL4_N7105TMHDLK8_TMH) through Odin
and it seemed to work because in "about device" it says im running 4.1.2 and it also seems to be a REALLY annoying European T-Mobile version because of the short and LOUD t-mobile video every single time i open and close my phone.
I also installed CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.5-jb which works perfectly (thank god)
now when i tried to boot the deodexed rom for N7105XXDLL4 through recovery via sd card. everything seems fine i can choose all the options in sequence and when i get to the end it tries to install (percentage bar) but stops very quickly and reboots me to recovery mode...the first time i did that it forced me to restore from backup (because it wouldnt boot at all) and the second time i did it it made me reboot and the samsung logo appeared followed by "android is upgrading 0 to 162" I WAS SUPPPPER HAPPPPY!! but i was crossing my fingers...low and behold the phone did boot but all the fonts and everything else were EXTREMELY tiny and a message kept popping up saying SystemSU has closed or something..
I obviously restored back to t-mobile 4.1.2 (hungarian)
Is there something wrong im doing during the installation? should i try and upload it through odin or something instead of through my sd card??and how do you do that?? i mean it cant be the wrong deodexed because i chose the first one for xxdll4 and it the installation does boot on my phone..
i mean everything looks great except for the fact that it stops at the beginning of installation and reboots me to recovery prematurely....
ANY HELP???!!!! THANKS!!!

I've been browsing the forums for a couple of months. Read lots of how-to guides but they all give different ways of doing the same thing.
Thought I knew a lot about computers, but feeling like a noob
GT-N7100 (international) running 4.1.1. Rooted using N7100. Backed up all my apks and data using Carbon, the backup app. I assume that if I wipe the device I can restore... so I'm good to go.
Wanted to put on a custom 4.2 rom so I picked Carbon (1.4-2FEB2003). Reviews looked favourable.
Downloaded Rom Manager v5.5.2.3. Clicked "Recovery Setup", rebooted, my Current Recovery is now Clockworkod 6.0.1.9.
Downloaded the rom using goomanager. Rom is sitting in a zip in a directory on my sd card.
Installed Mobile ODIN Lite v3.65 since I wanted to keep the flash count at 0.
Mobile ODIN doesn't see any of the files (they're zip). If I unzip them using an external zipper then I can manual select "Kernel" boot.img, but no idea what files to select for the rest of the options. Ok, so abandoned ODIN.
Back to ROM Manager. Install ROM from SD Card, however that app appears to be bugged since it's not able to show the external sd card, (extSdCard) and just shows internal memory.
Installed ROM Toolbox Lite. Install ROM from SD card. Browsed onto the SD card. Hurrah... picked the rom. ROM Pre-Installation appears, picked Backup Existing ROM, Wipe Data and Cache (shudder), Wipe Dalvik Cache. Ok. Reboot and install. OK. Phone reboots.
Into ClockworkMod.
Screen appears with a falled down droid. Options are: reboot system now, apply update from ADB, apply update from external storage, wipe data/factory reset/ wipe cache partition, apply update from cache.
No idea what to pick. I'd have expected to get a "install rom from sd card" or some other such option, since "update" sounds like just changing clockworkmod.
Choosing "reboot system now" and the system comes back up as if I hadn't told it to install rom. Apply from external allows me to browse the rom but then I get ann E:signature veritifcation failed.
Hard-reboot. Back into 4.1.1.
I can plug into my computer (mac - so no Odin). While I'd like to keep my trianges away etc for warranty, it's not 100% critical.
How to progress further? Which of the several flashing tools should I use? What noob mistakes am I making?
1st Of all Every time You Flash a Custom Rom or boot into recovery mode ur binary will be increased so its pointless to use Triangle away while you are rooted , But when you decide to make ur device completely stock then use Triangle away and flash a Stock Rom which will unroot ur device and get ota updates back.
Now for flashing custom Roms its simple By Using any custom recovery Clockworkod or TWR.. etc:
1- Turn Off ur device then boot into recovery ( Vol up + Home + Power)
2- Make sure you have downloaded the Rom to your external SD Card
3- Wipe data Factory Reset ( Your External will remain untouched)
4- Wipe Cach
5- Wipe Dalvik cach
6- Finally Install Zip From SD Card an choose install Zip from External Card , Aroma Installer will popup then you can take it from here

Would you expect the Install Zip from SD Card option to appear if I'd skipped steps 2-5. I.e. if I haven't factory wiped yet, would the option not appear? Or should it always be there and there is something else wrong?
Thanks for your help BTW.

if u skip steps 2-5 you will face problems in the new rom. even worse the new rom may not boot normally due to leftover system data files n settings of the previous rom.
best way to flash is to reboot to recovery rather than using some softwares.
always make a nandroid in clockwork "backup n restore" option prior to flashing new rom.

Maybe this is where my confusion is coming from. I'm not seeing a backup option in the clockwork menu. Nor am I seeing a flash rom option, or anything other than the few options.
Those options are: reboot system now, apply update from ADB, apply update from external storage, wipe data/factory reset/ wipe cache partition, apply update from cache.
That means you haven't flashed cwm recovery.

According to ROM Manager on the phone I'm getting told
"Current Recovery: ClockworkMod 6.0.1.9
Latest Recovery: ClockworkMod 6.0.1.9"
I've tried reflashing the recovery a couple of times but it makes no difference.
I've checked clockworkmod.com/rommanager and indeed 6.0.1.9 appears correct.
Is there a different tool I should be using to put the cwm recovery into place?
Again, thanks to everyone so far for your help. This noob wants to not be a noob

When you say "in recovery" did you mean in the ROM Manager app, or somewhere else? I'll assume you meant when booting in recovery mode.
If I boot into recovery mode (from ROM Manager, click the reboot into recovery, or by power off/on with keys) I get the fallen down droid, and the following:
"Android system recovery <3e>
Volume up/down to move highlight:
power button to select.
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache

I've downloaded the file (6.0.1.9) and it comes as a .img file. However, by default, mobile odin wouldn't handle it. Searched and found another post that said to rename it to "recovery.img" and... MO found it. Hurrah. Flashed. Hurrah.
It rebooted into it once. All looked good. But on reboot it's gone. I'm a lot further along than this morning so thank you. I'll go play some more!

Triangle away ----used to reset flash counter....thAT IS it resets the times u flash something....when u flash recovery ur counter increases...simply open triangle away & reset counter to 00000000000000000000.........so ur doubt cleared
didn't thought u would ask this after seeing ur previous posts
