Hi
not sure if this has been asked before i did a search but couldnt find anything relating to it. due to an issue with my kindle i had to wipe it so i can install a new rom this seems to have wiped all the backups and now no matter what rom i install the controls for home back and previous programmes are missing
have tried a few different roms and all seem to be giving me the same issue
thanks
If u were previously on stock amazon, you need to wipe system, cache, dalvik cache, and do a factory reset before flashing an android ROM, that's the only thing I can think of that would have caused that problem.

Which ROM are you using. I'm using the jandycane ROM. Installation instructions are usually on the first page of the thread, but this is what I do:
1) boot into recovery (twrp)
2) wipe dalvik cache, regular cache and do a factory reset
3) wipe system
4) install ROM from the SD card (probably in your download folder)
5) install jb gapps (Google apps)
6) wipe cache and dalvik cache again
7) go to "advanced" from the recovery homescreen and fix permissions
8) reboot
I am using jandycane_otter thanks for the info but i tried installing the update and my apps do not transfer i would have to reinstall all my apps and also the tablet acts as if i never existed and have to reenter all my info...going into recovery now and restoring

If you back up you device to Google (a tic in the set up) you simply go to the store and install your list of apps. I always do a clean install and have done this over 20 times.

You can use titanium back up it's an app in the play store.
Tried.it still lose all info...I know I have asked this before but haven't gotten a response can someone literally dumb it down for because I.must be doing something wrong.
Well that would certainly make sense being that we are talking about two different systems a full wipe is always recommended when changing systems. You see you are causing yourself nothing but trouble wipe it reflash and move on... apps can all be redownloaded your sdcard contents remain intact just don't wipe your sdcard account can be resigned into the only thing it really effects is like game data whoopie..

thank you pooch i was able to download the apps and update of the rom and just flashed it and it worked fine with nothing being lost...but now every time i turn it on it says there is an update for my rom but when i click it to download it opens and immediately closes, yet when i click to check for updates it says the current version is running.
im having a problem with my camera
when i start it is says camera failed i searched other posts almost everywhere on the internet
i tried the main plausible fixes
1-going back to unrooted stock with different versions might fix it but no luck
2-flahing different modded ones didnt work either
3-update the camera firmware with *#34971539# with some files on an other device thread on xda but it crashes saying factory test has stopped
so my only hope to fix my camera is fixing the #3 problem to rewrite my cameras fw
when did this start?
when you're flashing, are you doing a full wipe?
i've noticed with issues like these that when i perform a complete system wipe in recovery (data, cache, dalvik, system, media), flash the ROM (and gapps if required) and wipe data/factory reset again, the issue is usually resolved entirely.
It started when flashing a aokp rom update and i always wipe as usual
i even reset my phone full stock and it still dont work

Hi, in the last minutes i've flashed the 2.7 build of LiquidSmooth Rom from the Paranoid Hello Halo rom... I've done the prcedure like XDA said : Wipe Wipe Wipe (cache, dalvik, system) Flash Rom Flash Gapps. It booted fine but all my apps that i've had on my previous rom was still there... all of them. The most disturbing is my settings were also like I've left them ( disabled pie wifi etc) also my Google Accound was already setuped and good to go. Is it a new feature from flashing 4.2.2 rom to an other 4.2.2 rom ? I've never seen that before. I've also rebooted to make sure it wont boot loop on reboot, and it booted like a charm!
Any clues ?
Weird, never seen that before. Tell us what recovery you have and exactly what you are wiping. Can't think of anything else at the moment I'm sure others will chime in.
Sounds to me like you're not wiping /data. This is where your apps and setting are stored and unless you factory reset using stock recovery, deliberately wipe/format /data, or flash a Rom that wipes it for you, all your apps and settings will remain.
Seems like normal behavior to me.

Ya I re-read it and he just wipes caches and system, definitely need to factory reset lol.

Got it that's why. I was sure wiping system would wipe data too. But do you think its dangerous to not wipe data? Because actually my ROM is rocking right now without issues? Should I reflash it for safety?
It just depends....
It's always best to start clean, especially if you were having problems. But if you want to keep data intact, you should be ok as long as you don't go to an entirely different rom, base, or build.
If you are updating to a newer version of the same build, you're fine. Also if updating to a newer build/version you should be ok, but may have a few hiccups.
However, anytime you go backwards (4.2.2 to 4.1.2) you should wipe it all. The same is true if you are moving to a different base, such as CM to TW. Keeping your internal sdcard data is usually ok, but sometimes it can cause some issues.

Why is my nav bar squished and how do I fix it without wiping the thing?
Um which ROM are you on, cause u can always just reflash the system partition of your device without wiping all your data. Just wipe the system partition in twrp and reflash the ROM and gapps, might help to wipe cache and dalvik cache as well. Personally I have no idea what's causing that, I doubt its a DPI issue. Anyways if you reflash the system partition and it persists then I would worry, because it would be something on the data partition.

Running on stock rom because I would always get red firewall of death when I tried to custom. Its just rooted and heavily modified.
Oh, well you can still restore the system partition in fastboot mode via kffa without wiping anything.

Hey guys... Got a weird issue wherein every rom I install on my 8.9 Kindle (JEM) ... the AOSP keyboard crashes every time i try to use it...
Wouldnt normally care, would just install a different keyboard... But it crashes at the very begining of the loading of the rom... cant even connect to the network because I cant type in a password for it...
Anyone ever have an issue like this? Any suggestions on how to overcome the issue?
Ive tried CM10 (Old builds and new) and Ive tried PAC (Old builds and new... as well as stable builds)... all have the same effect... AOSP keyboard crashes as soon as I try to use it... everything else SEEMS to work ok...

You don't want to use older ROM builds. Use the most up to date ROM's for which ever ROM you choose. So lets make sure to do a clean flash. CM 10.2 to get you started. After the Gapps and ROM are on the internal SD card then swipe to factory reset and do this twice. Now flash the ROM and Gapps. After this is completed wipe Dalvik/CACHE only and repeat this twice. Now boot into system and see how you fare.
You can also try booting into recovery and wipe CACHE and DALVIK only and see if this clears things up. The reason I give these instructions is because the keyboard crashing, to my knowledge, was never really an issue using either CM stable builds.

Newer is not always better... but that point is moot...
I have wiped, rewiped, installed, wiped, wiped cahce, dalvik, reinstalled, wiped dalvik, wiped cache, ....
If theres a combination of installing and wiping to be done, Ive done it...
Workaround Ive found has been to install a google keyboard after skipping setup and then using the replacement keyboard as default... AOSP just fails...
(FYI.. not my only android device... so not really a noob at getting these things working...)
Newer is better when working with CM 10.2 as the newest build has given me no problems ever.
