I wonder If there is a way to enable this on our devices. I am talking about video call over the carrier network, not mobile data using some apps like Skype, Tango etc. I just want to video call a phone number directly from contacts. Is it somehow possible? Is it kernel related or what? Why cannot we use this feature?

Yes. I have done it with Skype, Fring and the google one I think is Gtalk.
I have done it with skype and gtalk as well. On my wifes galaxy sl it has an option for video call when she makes a normal phone call. Does this phone have that type of option?

What I do have is Contacts from Skype that I have merged with my Google Contacts allow me to make a skype video call. It has the option "Video call with Skype"
I went to Contacts ---> Groups --> and choose my Skype user name and can see all my Skype contacts and those contacts have the "Video call with Skype" option.
Worked just fine calling my friend's Xperia Play VZW over Talk. Front camera was better than his
is there any way to have video calls via dialer? i've got free video calls, not data so I don't want to use skype or talk
Ask you're survive provider what app they support in free video calls, dialer has no ability to make video calls.
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app

Seconding dudejb here -- this is done through some app provided by that carrier, which may only be available on phones sold by that provider. Even if they won't willingly provide you with the app, hope is not completely lost -- you can dump the APK from a friend's Android phone, or get creative with an OtG cable on a demo unit at one of their stores. No guarantees that'll work though -- it may depend on some weird framework or hardware inside their phones.
any changes?
Hi, I've tried to search forum in this topic without success, so I need a clear answer for this question: is there any ROM supporting native video calls at the moment for i927?
And the second question (no need for very clear answer ) - anybody found any way to make native video call with i927? I thought this device is part of Galaxy S II series of phones which were declared to support such calls, but I'm quite confused now and afraid of being mislead...
Without Internet tango and more
G3 and G2 does not video calls Internet.
I know that the Samsung Galaxy and more
I did not find. have information if a video call?
It should come with Google Hangouts, which does video calls. Or you can download Skype, Whatsapp, etc.
Why does the video call software have to be built in when you can download so many options?

Sadly manufacturers seems to have given up on this handy feature, you can maybe use one of the apps for calls and make it your default call app, like hangouts... Hope it helps you.... Even if I hate apple products, I guess it's way easier for you with an apple product... you can easily launch face time.
well, i'm using H818p and it does not come with native 3G video calling option. its just not in the dialer. but i saw the carrier versions of G4 has 3G video calling. is there anyway to enable 3G video calling?
Hey friendz can anyone tell me how to do video call on op3 through LTE. My carrier is jio 4g
use one of the many messaging apps which also allow calling and video calling (FB messenger, google hangouts, etc)
Good for Video Call:
-Line
Good for VoIP:
- Whatsapp (most recommended. No lag or any slow data transfer)
- Line
- BBM
kakaotalk is the equivalent of Line in south korea and it's quite good (I had some heavy battery drain with Line in the past but it's ok now).
these all app need data & others also need this app
but using 3g/4g we can use without having any app
this is sit that we cant do video calls without app
m 3k nokia do this video call

OP suggests video calling through the stock dialer as a voip/video call through the wireless carrier's network. Similar idea to HD voice or wifi calling.
Assuming OP is in India or a neighbouring country (mentioned Indian variant of the Z Play), I don't know which providers offer this feature and which handsets would be compatible. No carriers where I live offer this feature.
It's a given that Hangouts, etc. will work via wifi or data unless VoIP is blocked by carrier/local government.
The Verizon version, and pixels, support Verizon video calling. Basically you can switch to video during a voice call and back. Other video chat apps you have to hang up and start the app, except for FaceTime.
Hangouts, Skype, Qik etc all suffer from other stupid problems like needing to create an account. Many have poor quality over cell connections. This includes Verizon. It often gets garbled as the encoding scheme is not fault tolerant and doesn't send key frames occasionally.
Google duo would be an exception.
