NFC broken? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

OK, so I have the maguro/GSM model and I've never got NFC to work. I'm running yakju 4.3 with the bootloader unlocked but the phone otherwise stock and unrooted.
I've tried beaming with a 2012 Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Nexus 4, and Nexus S, and scanning a debit card and Oyster card using an NFC reader app and nothing has ever worked. I can beam fine between the other devices and scan the same cards using the same reader app.
NFC and Android Beam are both enabled in the settings. My battery says 'near field communication' on it. Is it just a defective device? I can't think of anything else.
Thanks

Try a friends' battery. The nfc chip is in the battery. If it works it is your nfc chip.

[Q] ET-R205?

Does anyone have it and is it working with flashdrives?
I bought one today but it works only with mouse and keyboard. I was thinking that 4.0.2 and higher android supports external devices as flashdrives...
- my device runs 4.0.3

it works with app called stick mount.
I thought it will work without 3rd app if the device is rooted.

Me too.
Have you tried Talkatone?
There's no way to put the current / latest version (v2.2.0.1344) to work properly on the Nexus 7 or any other Jelly Bean devices for that matter.
According to the developers, they're "hard at work to support Jelly Bean (Android 4.1)".

I was under the impression it was more of a "not being a phone" thing then a jellybean thing. Does Viber work on tablets now?

I see the latest version of viber which has just been released is jelly bean compatible however when I try to download it says my device is incompatible. Hope they just forgot to change the android version number!

You need to use a different number for activation for devices without a sim (old sim or someone's else's phone).
Did you get the apk from the viber support Page or just from the play store?

Considering purchase of this phone. 1 question.

Does this phone register as a "phone" on the Google play store? I've primarily used Wifi devices as my phone for about 2 years now, and have upgraded to a Nexus 7. The only problem was, most apps (the ones I want) are only compatible with phone sizes and not tablet sizes.
So I wanted to know if this phone had any compatibility issues with those phone size apps, if any.

Bluetooth tether?

Anyone able to connect from their nexus to a Bluetooth hot spot? Created one from my S4, but nexus sees it as a phone only.

Used it all day yesterday with my SIII ... worked great.....enabled BT tethering on SIII, paired, checked box that said "Use for Internet access" on the Nexus and boom......good to go........
Yes I'm not getting that use Internet access checkbox.. Hmm. I see it on the S4 side, but not on nexus
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
What do you see on the nexus side when the S3 is connected via bluetooth? what do you see when you click on the device? All I see is unpair and rename...nothing about internet access. On the s4, I see internet access profiles. How are you tethering from the s3?

Mine connected instantly, located and rang my phone just fine. My brother has a S3 and he is also having problems, he has multiple devices showing up (which he has).
Even though I hadn't at the time, you could try activating Android Device Manager in Device Administrator by checking the tick box it and trying again. I was using Chrome (which also did the work on my brothers S3 lol)

'no active devices' error for me
If you're having trouble tracking, try signing out of your online Google account. Go back to Android Device Manager then sign in again. Works for me

Very handy if you don't have Cerberus installed - wonder how long til they introduce Cerberus' other features (taking pictures of / filming the schmuck that stole your android etc)
