Hey there,
Im a newb here, and this is my first thread, but whatever.
It all started a few months ago.
Several weeks after I rooted my play, and flashed cm7, with doom kernal, my play just suddenly didn't turn on. (Like, turned it off for the night, but refused to turn on in the day again) . However, after I took out the battery and charged it for 10 mins before plugging the battery back in and turning it on again, it worked. This happened intermittently, and through the 12 months I had with this phone, this has happened multiple times, albeit rarely. Every time it happened, it wouldn't turn on, no led when plugged in the charger, no nothing. Its like a dead brick. Plugged it into the computer and it says "QHSUSB_DLOAD". It would work after I charge it without the battery tho. LOL. - weird. (Something like this, link here
However, yesterday, 31/1/2013, my luck basically ran out. The same thing happened again, with "QHSUSB_DLOAD" showing up and all, but my above method didn't work. And so, I'm stuck with a dead brick.
Basically, my xperia play is unresponsive. Plugged it into the computer and it shows "QHSUSB_DLOAD" I think it stands for Qualcomm High Speed USB Download mode. Today, following this link I just randomly plugged in my phone while holding the back button, with flashtool open in the background. Its some miracle, like, my pc suddenly detected it as an unknown device, and flashtool did some kind of thing, not sure, forgot to screen shot but i think it goes along the lines of "installftfkit". After that, my phone booted.
However, because I wanted to plug in my sim card, i rebooted it, and this time it wouldn't turn on. I tried replicating the results, and all i got wasn't "unknown device" but "QHSUSB_DLOAD".
And there you have it, Xperia Play stuck at "QHSUSB_DLOAD" permanently after several times of intermittent incidents of that happening. It may be hardware failure, which explains the intermittent incidents.
But Im still kind of curious. What causes "QHSUSB_DLOAD"? What component fails that would cause the PC to read it as "QHSUSB_DLOAD"?
Its a dead brick, but I am still trying to revive it. I installed qpst and the QHSUSB_DLOAD drivers. QPST configuration reads a phone in download mode(image 1), QPST software download seems to be able to flash a phone and boot image(image 2). But it needs a hex file and stuff. (Not sure bout that)
Is it easy to get a boot image thing for xperia play? Can i flash it using QPST and make my phone work again?
Thanks for your help guys! Really appreciate it!

Correct me if Im wrong...but Im guessing you tried Flashtool and it doesn't work ?
Also , are you familiar with using fastboot?
another Xperia Play Problem
Hi I am a noob also.
I am having a similar problem. Today I was trying to install the wifi module since it wasn't installed on the gin2Jellybean rom, i tried to flash the phone using the Flashtool (turned the cellphone off and pluged it in again while holding the back button) then the window disappeared and nothing happened. So I tried again, but first I took out the battery and put it in again and tried to flash again and now nothing is happening, Doesn't turn on, Flashtool doesn't do anything and when I try plugging it the laptop does the sound of an unrecognized device. The phone doesn't vibrate or anything when I press the power button.
Just realized that I tried flashing my cell phone using the x10 BLRelock.ftf crap.. is there anyway I can fix this?
Please Help.
Thank you.

LOL WTS.
As I said, its totally intermittent and random. I tried plugging it into the computer today, and this time a red led was flashing. I let it charge up a little, and there i had it, booted up perfectly normally.
Maybe the plug is becoming dusty or whatever, resulting in the detection being very intermittent? It happens on and off.
When the phone booted up, I noticed the battery level being very low (2%) maybe it needed some charging? Maybe the battery's screwed?
Its really weird.
And yea, fast boot drivers are installed, and boot loaders are unlocked (If not cm10 wouldn't have been installed lol)
Gonna keep you guys posted and see if it goes dead after restarting. Gonna restart after it charges up to 40%.
(I need to restart cos I have to plug in my sim and memory card)

Well, I restarted and it worked.
My theory is this: Phone ran out of batt one day. Plug is loose and dusty. Computer couldn't detect it properly, charger couldn't charge my phone properly (contacts are rusty or whatever shyt) and therefore phone couldn't on.
Don't know why my computer detected it as QHSUSB_DLOAD multiple times throught the 1 month tho.
Could a dirty plug cause that?
During that 1 month there was no response on the computer, thought it was bricked lol.
Anyways, I will keep you guys posted if this happens again, thanks for your help guys!
Imma keep this thread open since this is intermittent.
I'll only close it after 2 months.

Turned on my phone after 10+ tries.
What I did:
1) Plugged out battery, held power button
2)Without releasing the power button, insert the battery.
Repeat until phone turns on.
Moral of story: Persistence pays off. Nah jk.
Made sure to on my phone with the sim card in this time
Never gonna off my phone ever again (Hope it doesn't run out of batt LOL)
One thing to note is this really weird fluctuation in my phone's battery levels. Maybe my battery is going nuts? Attached is the screenshot.
Made sure to on my phone with the sim card in this time
The epic fluctuation may provide clues as to why my phone's behaving like so.
As you can see from the third dip, I was charging my phone. And then after switching it off, it wouldn't turn on. After a day, and countless times of trying to wake it up, you can see that the battery level has dropped sharply. Weird.
The first dip happened a few days ago(not able to turn on) on 1st Feb. The second dip happened on the 4th, while the third happened on the 5th, today These drops in battery levels happened when my phone couldn't turn on.

I am sorry to say that my problem is still the same every time I plug my phone it is shown as QHSUSB_DLOAD.
I just need to find a driver for it.
PS my phone never turned on after the brick.
Can someone send me a link to the driver and instructions if hard to install.
Thank you.

Even if it finds the driver, it wouldn't help you, cos QHSUSB_DLOAD means that the phone can't find the rom, and kernel or whatever. (I think) Its like a computer without an operating system. QHSUSB_DLOAD = Qualcomm Highspeed USB Download Mode, which means its waiting for the manufacturer to flash the rom and shyt, and therefore, your phone is bricked. (Dead brick, i think?)
For me, i think there's something wrong with the connections in my motherboard, resulting in the phone not being able to find the rom and stuff.
Maybe there's no hope for you.........
In short, I think your phone's bricked forever.... Most probably.

YOU SAVED ME! We have an Xperia Play at work and it wouldn't boot. Plugged it in USB and the HS-USB QDLoader 9008 Device came up. I read your post, did the power+battery thing 8 times, and it magically came back to life!
I wouldn't believe it if someone told me, but for some reason this seams to work. removing the battery and plugging it back in did not work for me, but holding down the power button did the trick.

HAHAHAHA LOL.
Glad it worked out for you
My guess is that there's something loose inside, and repeatedly trying to do that may help.
I think it's something to do with Sony's build quality, or maybe because the phone sustained hard knocks and stuff. (Probably just wear and tear)
Aledranssimo didn't reply me, so yea. T.T
This issue is probably an intermittent one I guess. I've since moved on and gotten a new phone (Lumia 520)
Hi all,
I own the p5200 (Tab3 10.1) for a few weeks.
Recently I noticed that the device sometimes randomly shuts down by itself, and I have to power it on again by myself.
It mostly happens when I don't use it (and than come back to use it and it's dead) - but it also happened once when I used it.
Did any of you guys experience that weird behavior ?
I don't believe it is a hardware defect, rather then a software/kernel issue (maybe even the previous generation's SOD problem?)
Appreciate any help!
Matan.

I read some and thought it may have to do with the Sleep of Death.

Thanks for the reply,
I'm running stock unrooted/modified XXUBMI5 firmware.
Hi,
same/similar problem on my P5200/10", stock not rooted firmware 4.2.2 - after cca a month of using random switch-off started, after another few weeks it was more and more frequent and the tab was usable only very hardly. my quess was some HW error like bad battery concact, as it happened mostly during tab movement/shaking/turn arounds etc.
Sent back to vendor to reclaim, back after a month with factory reset and message "problem not reproducible". and really, it was not happening(!)
Another week or two has passed since then - and random switch offs are again back, now also when there is no movement (i.e. overnigth). I am planning to try to save some logs to find why it happens (some bad application?) or at least to prove to vendor it really happens. then I will try also another factory reset (however, I do not like to setup it again and again and backup/restore might not work, if it is caused by some app ).
When this happened to me on a previous device, it turned out to be SD card related. The SD card would unmount and that would apparently freeze my tab, usually shutting it down. Then again I was using a swapfile and had most of my apps installed to the SD card. But I figured I'd mention.

Hi,
Same here - no SD card involved.
I can update that "somehow" those random shutdowns did not occur in the past few days (where before it happened a few good times a day)
I can also say that when the device is connected to a charger no shutdowns whatsoever.
Also, in the past few days battery is draining much faster than before.
Personally I think it is the battery, October's bad battery batch of the S4/S3 reminded me that this could be the issue here as well.
Tried to look online for a battery replacement to buy, but without any luck so far.
alfi_ , if you have any new info I would very much like to know
Thanks!

Hi,
so far nothing special - as it does not happen while on charger, also log via USB is useless. and the log via TCP is empty.
what I have seen in discussions / heard from more experienced people, incl. the branded service partner, it can be often caused by some additional application (for me its hard to believe. and if the same happens to PC computer, it will definitely be a reason to return the device). but anyway I would suggest you to make a backup and try the factory reset too. then test it for some time without any new installed application.
for my one it looks little better after reset (weird behaviour), but it still randomly shuts down. then I am going to visit a service center personally to present there the behaviour, but it may take some time..
Hi,
the problem was reproducible also in the service center with factory setting without any other application installed, so after a month the tab is back with replaced mainboard (part gh82-07643a) - and so far no problem. hopefully it will not repeat anymore
I've been experimenting the same issue. Sm t311, stock unrooted rom.
It happens when the device is sleeping, it just fails to come back.
I've seen it happen with and without sd card, with and without power cord attached. It doesn't seem to be related with the sleeping timespan either.
Enviado desde mi SM-T311 mediante Tapatalk
one, maybe useful info when this happens, which I was not aware of - androids v4.1 and newer have the possibility to boot into "safe mode", where all additional installed applications are disabled. so before you try factory reset and reinstall/reconfigure all applications, you can try also this. (I am wondering this option was not told me by the service). on tab 3 10" you can reach it while booting and the logo is shown, press and hold both volume keys.

Here is the original post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593766
After troubleshooting this issue and discarding possible causes such as charching problem, smart cover side effect, defective sd, etc etc, I had given up on my T311 and decided to start experimenting with some custom roms (after all, it's painless to brick a defective tablet). Somehow, after flashing FastDream the issue disappeared.
It has run for 27 hrs straight without turning itself off.

Hi, I have problem with my Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 gt p 5200.
Tablet without noticeable reason began randomly shut down by itself.
Sometimes in an hour goes off 5-6 times, and sometimes working 5-6 hours without turning off.
Tablet can not be sent to the service because it was purchased abroad.
On it is the original untouched Android 4.2.2.
I tried a factory reset and re-flash with the latest android from sammobile.com , but it didn't help.
Does anyone has a similar problem or solution.
Thanks in advance
I left my perfectly fine i-9505 s4 to charge overnight to find out it did not respond to anything, holding down the power button or power+voldown+home did not result in any sound image or vibration.
Removing the battery and re-inserting it makes the s4 respond to the power button, but the phone shuts down seconds after powering on. This also happens when I try to enter recovery, download mode or insert the charger.
It even happens when I use my usb JIG, the downloading screen appears for a second, after that the screen blacks out again. Tried removing the SD / SIM cards.
The only way I can connect it to Odin for a second (at least as far as I know), is by:
1) removing battery,
2) inserting Jtag
3) inserting battery
4) remove JIG (very quickly)
5) insert USB to PC (very quickly)
Yay! Windows makes the "USB connection" sound, before making the "USB connection lost" sound a second later and the screen blacking out..
What could cause this? Is it my battery? Connector? Software (jamals 4.4v6, faux123, mj5 modem)?
Have you tried directly plugging it into the charger or your computer without the battery?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I did try that, the screen does not turn on if I plug my charger / USB cable from PC into my S4 when the battery is removed.
What could cause shutdowns after 2 seconds from booting? I hope this is fixable!
It sounds like there is a physical defect in the device. If it was software related (this can be caused by a borked up ROM or Kernel) you wouldn't see the same behaivor in Download mode and that doesnt' use either the ROM or Kernel.
You could have something physically broken inside the unit that is causing an electrical short once something common to the system and download mode is activated, which would cause the reboot. That could be the USB port that both the system and Download mode will constantly poll the USB port looking for a connection, but only after a second or two. It won't look at the USB port immediately when teh GALAXY S4 splash screen pops up so that's why you get a second of it working. There are 100 other things internally that it could be too.
I'd say make sure the charing port is cleared of any debris. If that doesn't work, I'd say it's broken and needs to be repaired. Without knowing exactly what is causing the issue I wouldn't suggest trying to fix it because you'll cancel the warrenty by doign so and might not find the problem. It could even be a faulty memory chip on teh circuit board that wouldn't look broken to the eye.
Since you can use Download mode for more than a second, you obviously can't try to restore to stock, which is the prefered go to method to fix things like this.

Sounds very much like a hardware malfunction. Without having the device on hand, I can be of no help, unfortunately. If it's under warranty, I suggest you try to get a replacement.
Thanks for the replies. You have convinced me that this is a hardware issue. I have no clue as to what might have caused this defect.
I will soon try a different battery, and if that fails I will contact Samsung.
Unfortunately though, my firmware is custom and this may void warranty, which would suck since the cause of the issue is probably not related to the software.
A day later, the problem appears to have solved itself. I'll keep you updated.
My S4 was working for some time, but the problem returned, the phone shuts down seconds after booting (normal boot / recovery / download mode / USB-Jig induced download mode..)
HOWEVER:
Sometimes, when I connect my S4 to a charger, it turns itself on (first displaying the charging icon) and then starts booting, showing the Google boot animation (since I'm running GPE). This animation keeps going for minutes, and then the phone shuts down again (black screen, does not respond to anything.

You're just delaying the (possibly inevitable) death of your phone. Use your warranty while you still have it. At least I would in your situation.

I had to send my S4 back to Samsung THREE TIMES before they realised it was a hardware error. The first two times, all I got was a factory reset.. Which of course, didn't help.
I'm pretty sure you were right, it was a bad power button.
Hey there. I am new to XDA.
My tablet last night was just fine! Everything was working perfectly and i played a few games before i went to sleep. Anyhow, Today afternoon i trying to wake up the screen of my tablet and it doesn't even turn on the screen! I put it in to charge but nothing happens. The only thing that happens is that is getting warm at the back because of charging.
So overall, last night was working, today is not even turn on.
p.s: Few weeks back i try to root my tablet and i didn't make it. I had the problem "Firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again" But i managed to recover to fully factory settings all over again.
Thanks
Try this tool:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...&_nkw=usb+current+and+voltage+tester&_sacat=0
Make sure the current should be ~ 1,7 Amps, voltage should be ~ 5.2 Volts.
There are many unknowns: bad charger or bad USB cable or bad USB charging port.
You should use another known working USB cable or charger to test. Another micro USB cable can be used to charge or 5 Volts to 5.3 Volts charger.
If you tablet is charging, press the HOME button it should show a green battery icon.
The problem is not with the charger, its with the software I guess

I tried the power, home, down thing also the power, home,up nothing happens. As i told when i try to charge the tablet the back of the tablet was getting warmer, a sign that says its charging. BUT the screen does not open with the battery on it.. Basically it doesn't turn on at all.
Tried that
Also tried that too.. But i think the voltage its alright i think and also i use my 7 months old original charger that came with the tablet. So the chances are so few.

Another way if you cannot see anything, try of using HDMI adapter to connect to your TV. Signs of your tablet is running: vibration at start up, sounds of start screen or menu and back buttons light up. If you see these signs, probably the LCD cable is disconnected or loose. But how do you know your tablet is charging ? The charger or cable is working but the USB charging port doesn't work, you'll have a dead battery. There are too many unknowns you're even not sure, then others cannot guess what is wrong. First thing first, you need to know if your tablet is charging, then you will figure out what is next.
Nothing!

Hey there.. Thanks for the help!
I know that is charging because the back of the tablet is getting warmer when i charge it. Also no back keys or nothing is showing up. I tried everything. The only thing i didnt try is the HDMI thing. Plus the tablet is in full silence. no vibration or anything. i dont remember if the tablet was vibrating at the turn on. The only thing i got from the tablet since yesterday is nothing. not even a light of the screen or download mode or back light NOTHING so unexpectedly
Thanks!
When the tablet shows no sign of life, the only way to know first if the mainboard is working, is is taking charge ?
The back is warming cannot tell anything. If the battery is dead you cannot go troubleshooting further unless swapping another battery to see if the tablet can turn on. Even with a full charged battery, a defective power button could prevent the tablet turning on.
There are too many unknowns, that's why elimination method have to use to find the source of problem: software or hardware.
The USB current and voltage tester will help you without guessing the working status of your tablet. I have no clues, that's why I'm guessing too.
Not even a clue!

Thanks for the trying to help!
I don't even have a clue. I search the whole internet about this problem and nothing. I will take it back to the store and use the warranty. Thats the best way
Long shot but try this. Unplug the charger. Hold the power button down for a full 20 seconds. Even if the tablet is in a "frozen" state, that should turn it off. Then try turning it on again.
Tried it.

Hi guys. I badly need help.
My m8 wont turn on.
I was chargin it the other night 32% when the phone freezed while downloading facebook from playstore. So i restarted it and it will only show the white background and htc logo. So i tried to boot it into bootloader. It dit boot btw, and when i entered recovery mode it just wont turn back on, the phone was freaking hot and when i listened closely there was a soft whirling sound inside.
I tried every troubleshooting i could find (except for connecting it to a pc, because i am a mac user) but to no avail the phone would not come back to life.
I am so depressed and wouldnt wanna go to the technician yet if i can still find some solutions to bring it back to life again.
Stock android 6.0
Asian 2.5ghz version
Phone age 1yr6mos
Never been dropped
Please help me.
If there is a way to fastboot it using command prompt because someone was suggesting me to do it. But i am a mac user. So helpless here.

So what is the current status of the phone, exactly? Does the screen turn on at all: white HTC logo screen? Bootloader? Can you get into recovery?
Or the screen won't come on at all?
The whirling sound is a bit disturbing. I haven't heard a report of something like that while trying to boot. The only mechanical components I can think of, that can be making that sound is the camera and vibration motor.

I don't know jack about Macs, so I can't really tell you much about fastboot or recoverying using a Mac. I know you can do it (adb and fastboot on Mac), and think I remember some kind of guide here; so you may search around for that.
You should also see if there is an RUU zip for your version. If so, you can put in on an SD card and run it, without a PC.

Can you be more specific about what you tried, and the details on the results for each? We have no way of knowing what "every troubleshooting you could find" means.
Also, is the phone modded at all (bootloader unlocked, root, custom ROM, s-off, etc.) and is the bootloader currently unlocked, locked or relocked?
hi
the status of the phone is dead. no power. no led light lit when plugged in charger.
i tried these troubleshooting methods:
1. power + volume up for 20 secs (no response)
2. power + volume down for 10 secs (it should vibrate and boot up but it DID NOT)
3. power + volume up an down for 2-3mins while plugged in a charger (nothing happens)
bootloader is locked, all stock not modded
i did find a tutorial on how to install adb and fastboot in my mac. installation was successful but when i try to enter cmd like adb devices it would reply somewhat like adb: no command found.. so im planning to find a windows based pc. if not just leave it for the technicians to rule out the problem.
is this the first sudden death incident? and can the board of the m8 be easily damaged? i never dropped the phone, ever. it just concerns me if its the board that is defective

Try power+vol up for a minute or 2, with and without the charger plugged in. A few folks have had success with this.
Also try to leave the charger connected for a few hours, and see if there is any change.
If none of this works, I would likely assume a sudden hardware failure. It would also somewhat explain the sudden freezing and failure to boot on a fully stock device, with no other apparent events or actions that would cause such a failure.

This usually means you need to navigate (change directory) in CMD to the proper folder where the adb files were installed.
I'm clueless on how to do that on a Mac. On a PC, you would find where adb.exe is located, than you can press Shift+right mouse button and select "Open command window here" (otherwise, you need to manually change directory in CMD using command "cd" with the proper file path).

This certainly wouldn't be the first incident of an apparent and spontaneous hardware failure. We've seen a a few failures like this (no other apparent cause or fix). And anecdotally , these reports seem to be getting a little more common as the device goes on 2 years old. Folks here with more knowledge than me will often say emmc failure can be the cause. emmc chips just go bad eventually. The device did not necessarily get dropped or damaged.
There is the possibility of a bad capacitor on the motherboard. From the description of the sound that you can hear (although I would consider it a high pitched whining sound), it sounds like it might be possible. Capacitors sometimes will give off a high pitched whining noise when they go bad. I could be wrong but my guess is you have a hardware issue of some kind.

That is some brilliant detective work! I've heard of capacitor noise in regards to the AC chargers, but I never would have thought of it happening on the phone. It makes sense. I could only think of mechanical components of the phone making the noise (camera, vibration motor) which didn't really make much sense.

Well, the camera or vibration motor wasn't such a bad idea either. Have no idea if they could get stuck in some way and make a noise like that or not though. My first thought was a capacitor but then reading on I saw you mentioned them. Hadn't even thought of them. Either way, I'm guessing this is a hardware issue from the description of what happened and the noise being heard. I've seen and heard the capacitor issue a few times in my days. It makes me wonder.

Thank you so much for your help guys. Ive been to technician he wont open it coz he doesnt even have parts. I will try and look for a PC and my friend who is also a member here will help me walkthrough the process in cmd. That would be my last chance to wake it up.
If not, i think i need to visit singapore soon. Htc repair center here in the philippines is crap, untrustworthy. Thank you sir!
