[Q] Screen Smoothness - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I have an odd issue that has more to do with the physical feel of the glass rather than the smoothness of the UI. My screen seems to be missing the oleophobic (sp?) coating or something that makes it so that my fingers don't glide on the screen like my GS3 for example. Others have noticed this while playing with my phone without me mentioning it as well.
I'm a freak about my screens and keep a microfiber cloth with me at all times (ok maybe two or three) and haven't felt a screen like this since using my old storm 2.
Anyone else experience this or does this sound like a defective screen? I paid full price for this thing and don't want to settle for something that is not the norm.

[Q] Nexus display scratching?

Hi,
I heard that display is prone to scratches. I used HTC HD2 for two years without any scratch and without any display protection. I hate display protections!
So, is it necessary to use some screen protection or display is armored?
The Galaxy Nexus screen isn't Gorilla® Glass, but it's something similar.
All screens are prone to scratches, but it depends on luck. You can find scratch tests that show people taking keys to phones (even the Galaxy Nexus), but keys can be relatively softer than random particles of dirt, salt, dust, etc.
My Galaxy Nexus showed 2 extremely minor scratches on the screen after a few days of very, very gentle use; however, they're only noticeable when reflected under a 6500K-150W light bulb (basically, sunlight) with the screen off. Any other time (with screen on or off), they're impossible to see. No idea where they came from, but meh.
A quality screen protector is a worthwhile investment, and isn't too much of a deal if it's a decent protector. I hate Zagg protectors; orange peel and a lot of friction added to the finger (this doesn't bother some people).
I recently tried an XO case on my GN and while the fit could be a bit better (it's a tad too short), it's perfectly smooth and adds minimal friction. Mine's still drying, but I plan to follow up to my other post tomorrow: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21082579#post21082579
There are even a few coupons earlier in the thread, and with a 30 day refund policy and lifetime warranty, shipping (like $3) is all you have to lose.
Get one... Or you're going to regret it after about a week

That happened to my phone a well, i was carrying it around in my jeans, without anything else in that pocket...
I would really recommend to get yourself a screen protector, but I don't think one needs a case as well if you don't plan to drop your phone

You don't plan on dropping your phone. Sometimes it is just unexpected
i just let my headphones plugged in at all times, those are usually enough to prevent the phone from dropping just don't do this while riding a bike... when your phone gets into the wheel you strangulate yourself...
and yes, i'm speaking from my own experience i just got myself some bt headphones for biking
I've had this device since release and have had no problems with scratches. I've dropped it multiple times and I haven't necessarily been gentle with it. Just get insurance. Totally worth the money IMO.

PureGear Puretek RollOn Screen Protector

Anyone else get and try this? For people who got this, what are your thoughts on this?
I recently got it and just installed it on my phone. While the application was extremely easy, and the fit was practically perfect for me (no bubbles, location was good, just rolled on fine), it feels very rough? It is not as smooth, like as glass would feel, and seems to make swiping somewhat harder, and the phone feels less responsive (easily noticed on games). Not sure if there is a break in period for it? (I have never used a film like screen protector before. Before, I used a "plastic"-like anti-glare screens before on my iTouch before which was extremely smooth which I am used to)
I might end up getting another screen protector if this keeps up.
But as far as installation goes, couldn't have gone any easier.

I just bought one from ebay a few minutes ago, for my note (I717),, I tried putting on 3 screen protectors the other day and it drove me crazy, I had to keep the 3rd/last one on but the bubbles and dust (tried removing the dust with tape but didn't work out) are so annoying. I really hope this thing works well for me.

[Q] Screen Scratches

Okay, call me confused.... I bought my device on Black Friday and got it some time around Nov 27th. For the first two weeks I owned it, I didn't notice a single scratch on the display, and it seemed to "repel" finger prints (or at least they seemed to clean themselves off after a short period of time). Now, less than two weeks later, I'm seeing tons of long ultrathin scratches (so thin I can't feel them), and one "dent" (about a half mm in diameter) and the fingerprint repulsion property may have decreased.
I've talked to both Sprint and Samsung who are claiming I physically damaged it and its not covered any warranty. Both claim scratches on the glass are extremely rare (one supervisor at Sprint claimed he had never heard of a single incidence of this). I've owned devices with Gorilla Glass before and never had problems like this. Generally speaking I try to be very careful with my phone (in a pocket with nothing else) or on a desk, face up. Of course, I'm not saying I'm a perfect angel about it, but I do try. I only touch the screen with my finger.
Samsung has been all over the map. One person claimed that Samsung recommends a screen protector, another person claimed that "manufacturers usually recommend" a screen protector, and when I asked where in writing they published the recommendation they of course had no answer. The same person who said the "manufacturers usually recommend" also explicitly said I should not expect scratches after 4 weeks without one.
Its almost like there was a hard coating on the surface of the glass that is wearing off and it is becoming far more sensitive to scratches. I keep reading reports about how some phones are highly resistant and some aren't, So... what's the deal with this?
I've had mine since August and no scratches of any kind, without a screen protector.
Then again, I baby my devices. It's either in my hand, on my desk, or in my pocket with nothing else in it. Only my fiance is allowed to use my phone, no one else.
This is a long shot here, but have you tried giving the screen a really careful cleaning? I've had thin streaks of ....maybe grease?.... on the screen that I thought were scratches. After a careful cleaning they disappeared. My SGS3 is about 6 months old now and still no scratches on the screen.
As far as the hardening wearing off, seems unlikely. Its actually a heat treatment to the surface of the glass, not something they spray on. It's part of the glass itself.
I'm pretty sure its not grease... I went over it with my fingernail and I can definitely feel some and there is no deformation of the "scratch." I've also scrubbed it with my shirt. If it was simply grease or something on top of the surface I'm sure it would have wiped away.
I wouldn't say I've babied the phone but I think I've made an intentional effort to be careful with it, especially once I saw the first scratch, but they just seem to be multiplying. I strongly suspect the glass is defective. When searching on it, it seems some people never have scratching problems and others are getting the screen scratched up within hours. It seems to me that the quality of Gorilla Glass is inconsistent, but it also seems like Sprint and Samsung deny the problem exists. So I may be SOL.

I am sorry to here this man, in your post before this you mentioned using your shirt to clean the screen. That is a big no no in my book, i would suggest using a lint free microfiber cloth, and make sure it is dry. I always bye Rayban sunglasses and they tell you never to use your shirt to clean them. I am not saying that's how they occurred but from now on maybe FYI.

Screen sensitivity and glass protectors

Hey all,
I've had the G4 for about 3 weeks and the screen sensitivity is my only gripe. It sometimes takes several taps to get it to respond and when scrolling in various apps it will not always respond. Like many others I have a glass screen protector and I've read a few times that people think that might be part of the issue. I want to test this without destroying the current protector I have by removing it. I have also noticed that if I need to push for several seconds on the same spot (mainly for long pressing on the keyboard) my finger will move around slightly and not always tap the area I was aiming for.
Anyone else remove their glass screen protector and notice better performance? Or maybe switching to a non-glass protector? It can be frustrating when thinking you tapped the screen and then doing it again and again.
I went to return my phone, peeled off the screen protector, and the difference was huge. Still very weak touch response even without a protector, though. Less sensitive than a Samsung or iPhone anyways. I decided to just get used to it and it doesn't really bother me as much anymore. I went with a warranty replacement to be safe anyways, and it does seem to be a little better than my previous phone. Still a much weaker touch response than my S4 ever had, but i will say that my gf's iPhone 5 is much worse with her thicker glass protector (i bought a really thin .2mm one, which has already spidered within a week xP)
Thanks for the response Ryan. I'll probably remove the glass protector as well then. I bought the one that Verizon offered which I think is a generic brand. It looks great on the phone but with this issue it's not worth it. Thanks again!
Just a quick update. I replaced my glass screen protector with this one from Spigen and it is noticeably better. As Ryan mentioned previously, still not perfect which I believe is something that LG needs to work on. The phone is not as responsive as it should be. The previous glass protector was too thick and this Spigen one makes a huge difference. I still occasionally have to tap twice but this at least makes me want to throw the phone less.
I use an Invisashield and I haven't had a single issue with touch responsiveness. I just got my phone a few days ago so maybe it's got something different. I don't know.

General Going back to a boring candy bar phone after 30 days with the fold3

Unfortunately my time with my fold3 was short lived.
I decided to post my experience with it to help someone on the fence about getting one, my review might seem a lot negative, but I had a really good time with the phone.
I bought it about a month ago, paid 850USD for it new, quite a bargain considering that a z fold4 costs around 2.2kUSD here in brasil. After a long time just jumping from smartphone to smartphone and feeling that they all seemed, worked and felt the same, the zfold3 was just a breath of fresh air, so exciting to open and close it, the different ways to use it, all the productivity that the bigger screen brought, also the joy to use the smaller outer screen whenever I couldn't unfold it.
For this past month I haven't experienced any major bugs, every now and then an app would open on the bigger screen thinking it was on the smaller screen, YouTube would open with two columns often and once in a while with only one column. But again, nothing major.
What was a let down for me was the durability concerns. After a month babing it, the outer screen is scratched around the protective film, the camera rings are really scratched and without the paint. The paint on the bottom is also coming off. I exchange phones every 3 months or so, I never had a phone degrading so fast as this one, at least aesthetically.
Although the phone feels awesome on the pocket, that is only caseless so. With a case it is so bulgy that I just can't put it in and out of my pocket.
Everyday I see someone complaing on reddit that a speck of dust totally broke the inner screen or the hinge, the inner screen protector pelling off and pushing the screen until it is ruined. All adding to my already present anxiety of my phone breaking at any moment.
In addition to durability, another let down was the screen use of space when unfolded. Although the inner screen is great for content consumption, I don't think it uses its size effectively. Websites look ugly, a lot of apps are not optimized for a tablet size screen, the keyboard is a pain to use, you can kinda get used to it on both screens, but it's far from a comfortable keyboard to type on on any of them. Some apps like bank apps just look wrong on the inner screen, I tried changing the dpi to get more content on the big screen, however it always messed up with the outer Screen dpi.
Although my experience seems kinda negative, the phone is quite good in a lot of ways, the battery was actually quite good (coming from a note 20 ultra), performance is top notch, screen quality is great, speakers are awesome, best ones out there for sure. Fingerprint sensor is reliable and fast, cameras are decent if you are not a camera focused user. The split screen on this phone is just the best productivity tool you can find on any phone.
That all said, I still think this phone concept is awesome, I do intend to come back to a fold if I feel that durability is greatly improved and software is better optimized for the bigger display.
For now I'm exchanging it for a s22 ultra, I know I'll miss a lot of functions with the s22, but at least it will bring me some peace of mind related to durability.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Reading from my Fold 4
