I had my phone unlocked through ATT's service, and I'm currently using a SIM from Tuenti, which piggybacks off of Movistar's network. Do I still use the ATT images to root my phone, or will this screw up my cell coverage?
Thanks,
Victor
If you are using an AT&T branded S3 then use only d2att ROM's.

USE D2ATT roms. You might have to put in a custom APN to get mobile data.

I just did a quick search, and couldn't find the exact answer (probably not using the right search terms).
If I got a Rogers S3, what needs to be done for it work on the Bell network?

You'll need to unlock the network first.

Rogers to Bell s3
Once unlocked, download selfserve and also make sure you have a Bell LTE MicroSim.
Than happy rooting or whichever way you decide to go!
Root. Unlock. Lte sim. Lte data plan. Lte provisioning.
I have the same thing. Rogers s3 on bell/virgin. Tho I an having issues with Lte but I think its a tower in my area.

wow you made that sound difficult could have just left it at unlock network and been done with it! You don't have to root first either.

No you don't have to root lol just unlock.
But for Lte to work you need to make sure you have you correct data plan, sim card and provisioning.

Hi guys,
My friend bought an incredible 2 and paid to have it sim unlocked. He put his at&t go phone sim in it and it doesn't recognize the sim in gsm mode nor does it even register in global mode. I did a search on Google and got yes and no answers on whether this is possible. I figure no one would know better than an xda guy, so any help is appreciated.
Phone is also rooted and s-off if that matters/helps on the newest rooted ota.
Thanks in advance!

Technically speaking yes it should work but the phone will only be able to use the edge network due to limitations on the inc2 being built mainly for cdma network. I would try a different carriers SIM card to test. It is possible the unlock didn't work. I have seen a few people on here using the phone with tmobile which is almost the same network.

Dkstunna's cm9 has working gsm 3g if I remember right
So it is just a matter of flashing a rom that will support it? I see that a few roms say they support GSM. I read somewhere that verizon blocked the radio in the phone from getting AT&T signal, is that true and if so would I need to flash a different radio for it to work? Data does not matter, he mainly uses it for talk and text (why he got an incred 2 for just talk and text is beyond me)

Its not blocked, the phone just doesn't pick up the right band or frequency to get gsm 3g on certain networks, all the different type of data and voice use their own frequency range and our phone can't pick up the right band to get it, our radio is not made for it.

I have rooted and have mine s-off. Prior to doing this Verizon gave me the unlock code for GSM as I travel overseas. I am running aeroevan's cm9 on it and recently tried the local GSM providers SIM here in Wyoming (Union Cellular) in the phone. I switched the network to GSM and it picked up nothing at all. I have used this overseas with a Movistar SIM and have had voice and SMS. Some how I wonder if there is something built in that blocks GMS when the phone can receive a CDMA signal from Verizon.

I thought that by being a quad band gsm the dinc2 would get any gsm frequency.

Yes but not always the case. It most be one of these. Google is your friend
The handset is a dual-band EV-DO Rev A (850/1900MHz), quad-band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900MHz), and dual-band HSDPA (900/2100MHz) device

This is incorrect. Verizon uses CDMA and ATT uses GSM. The phones are not compatible.

^ this
but you can actually change from GSM to CDMA from your *#197328640# (stock 4.1.1) but not sure if that'd work
but for the most cases, reason to unlock AT&T S3 is to use it for T-Mobile ;p

The Verizon "sim" card is only to get Verizon's LTE network. Its useless on ATT/TMobile

^ this. Flashing any Verizon modems, ROMs, ect can lead to a paperweight. The phone has different hardware that allows it to operate on a GSM network and will not allow it to run on a CDMA network. You would have to get a Verizon phone to work on Verizon or go to a different network. T-Mobile for instance accepts att sim cards (with reduced functionality due to different frequencies, but at least you can still use the phone)

ok is there a rom that work right out the box for some sort of data with my prepaid at&t sim card i can make calls get mms, but cant get data i really need some sort of data working today i am rooted, unlocked and have no idea if i should be useing some sort of at&t kernal, or just changeing the apn, which has not worked yet?
can some one please direct me to the right thread or something
So you have a Tmobile T999 with an ATT prepaid sim?
I don't remember for sure so hopefully someone else can confirm, but I don't think the T999 can get better than 3g on ATTs network.
But if you're using the ATT sim, you'll be on their network so you may need to either unlock the phone and/or put in the correct ATT apn.

It will use HSPA on At&t no problem. Sounds like an APN issue. Your best bet is to go to the At&t forum and flash an At&t rom. Just make sure not to flash an At&t radio. Data should work out of the box on an At&t build.

I think it will use HSPA+ but only difference is that att hspa+ is not 42mg like on tmobile. I was getting around 7mg with my friends att sim on my t999.

This is correct. at&t uses the older HSDPA 7/14 and HSPA 21 depending on where you are located. They opted to go to LTE instead of a dual carrier configuration for their HSPA+
What service do you have with the prepaid att service? Did you have to get a new sim card? I looked everywhere on here, but didn't see anything
I am trying to unlock my sim so I can use simple mobile. Right now I have the latest AOKP on my phone. I also don't have any sim card in it yet. I tried to unlock using *#197328640# but it won't do anything. Do I have to Odin back to stock for it to work? Or is there another way to unlock the sim?

I just did some reading and I see that it has to be stock tw ROM in order for that to work.

unlocking a Galaxy s3 without a sim card
Hi, I just got a tmobile Galaxy s3 since my friend upgraded to an iPhone, however I have service with Virgin Mobile. I've read about unlocking phones to work with different carriers and I'm hoping there's a way to unlock this tmobile phone so i can use it with Virgin Mobile. Virgin Mobile as far as i know doesn't use sim cards. Will i be able to make the switch?
