This seems like a question I should be able to find an answer to myself, but I have searched all throughout the N7100 forum and can't seem to find my answer.
I have the Galaxy Note II International Version (GT-N7100). I rooted it with the Samsung Galaxy Note2 Toolkit
When I rooted, I had version 4.1.1 of android. It didn't get any OTA updates since it was rooted. I would like version 4.1.2 so I can run the Samsung Multi WIndow Manager so that I can use any app in the MultiWIndow mode.
What's the best way to do this? I tried flashing a stock rom, but I got stuck when I was required to download a stock ROM. I'm in the United States, but I don't see any region with United States so I don't know which I should get.
Sooo... Is this the proper way to update the Samsung rom if I had it rooted? Is there a better way?
What rom is best to use? Which region do I need for the U.S.? I mainly want to use the multi-window support and my understanding is that I must use a Samsung rom for that. I believe that was true when I first researched it. Is it still true today?
Thanks!
Maybe I'm being dense but did you also unlock your phone and install a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP?)
If so, you should be able to download a rom for your phone, install and enjoy the fruits of your labors. Look for roms that are based on TouchWiz and you should retain the samsung features you want. AOSP roms are base android and will not have those samsung customizations.
I don't know what "region" has to do with it though, just pick a rom that's compatible with N-7100

Thanks for the response, TrojanDroid. If region doesn't matter and I can install any TouchWiz based rom then that makes me very happy. I've used mods on other phones in the past and never had to worry about region.
Yes, I used the toolkit to install TWRP, Busybox, and Root the phone. The reason I asked about region is because I figured the easiest way to upgrade to 4.1.2 or higher would be to flash the newer stock rom. This is the webpage with an extremely large list of stock roms that the tool left me with though, which is where my question came from: http samsung-updates .com /device/ ?id=GT-N7100 (I can't post links yet)
I use the Samsung Multi Window and S-Pen features often. Is it accurate to say that as long as a rom is TouchWiz based, I will still be able to fully take advantage of those features?
You should update to any latest rom, bcoz 4.1.1 having sudden death bug and your device can be brick suddenly without a reason.
Anyway 4.1.2 stock rom itself having Multiwindow but to use any application in Multiwindow you will need to have moved version.
You can achieve it with xposed module (is simply needs rooted device +two simple apk to install)
Now what I recommend
1.You already have rooted device with cwm then make efs backup (can use Multitool from my signature for that)
2 . update latest rom (like mg1 is good in my point of view) with odin.
3.again you can use Multitool to root device.
4 . find xposed module and framework for Multiwindow mod to use any application in mw
OR
Find AnyMod from my signature and enjoy many extra features on your stock rom.
Goodluck

Thanks for the input. I have now successfully installed Thunder Lite and it seems to fit my requirements. I may investigate and play around with a few other roms in the future as well, since now I know that any Samsung based rom should work for me.
Thanks!

Hey guys, i am finally back on XDA developers, it has been 3 years as i upgraded to an Iphone but have returned to try out android again in the hopes it is no longer a piece of crap os like it was a few years ago and so far i am linking!.
I just bought the Galaxy note 2 and want to root it.
More specifically when i had my HTC Touch Pro with windows mobile 6, i downloaded Roms with lots of apps pre loaded such as wifi tethering, games tweaks and feature re-enabling.
Now i have a Note 2, i want a ROM with the most tweaks and software installed on it, i do not care for the UI as i can learn however i liked the windowed UI of one of the roms on here which is more like a desktop computer.
So please could you recommend me a Rom with lots of extras and explain how i would root the phone as i have a very vague idea and would want confirmation.
As far as i know, you download the rom, save it to a SD card, then reboot the phone in recovery mode and this is where i get stuck as to what i would do next.
Also, if in the future i want to return to the stock rom, how would i go about doing this?
I live in the uk and have a unlocked GT-N7100 so none of this sprint, verizon , at&t ,T-mobile crap your guys suffer with in America.
Do search for note 2 toolkit.. Root and install cwm or twrp recovery mods through it..
Press power volume up and menu together to boot to cwm and then install your rom .. U can also use cwm to backup your stock rom...
I recommend omega rom myself along with perseus kernel..
Hope it helps and please read the forum.. It hasTONS of info about the same question...
Cheers

theres lots of great CusROM... for example:
1. you can try ARHD for the most TouchWiz look-aliked
2. Omega cause theres lots of user who supports this ROM
3. Phoneix for the lots of tweaks and mods on the package
4. And many others things...
For me, its Alliance.. may differ for every user... you need to try it on your own.. :good:
For rooting and rom installation I wrecommend to read dr.ketan's excellent thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31801134.
Omega is a touch wizard based rom, so you do not lose the S-pen functionality, and it has lots of customizable functions, mods. I also suggest to install simplistic framework, with further modding capabilities.
Hello All!
I just want to clear some of my basic doubts before I flash ROMs in my GN2. So, here goes:
Is it right that custom ROMs donot have some of the Samsung proprietary features such as Air View, Smart Rotation, Smart Stay, etc.? and
Are kernels also flashed in the same way as the ROMs are i.e., .zip flash via Recovery?
Thanks!

Hi,
1.) It is possible.
2.) Yes
1) yes, cyanogenmod rom paranoid rom will Disable Samsung applications, but there are still so many roms, like Android revolution HD, Crash rom ( I'm currently using now) , just google " the best custom rom for galaxy note 2" , those roms keep all of Samsung features + many system tweaks. Just try them.
2) exactly yes
Here, I'd like to advice to back your stock rom before flashing a custom rom. This is very important to recover your phone in case something went wrong
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
ALL TW ROMS have these options s whereas Aosp don't
Yes the same way to flash the kernel
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Your question has been answered already but I would like to explain a bit more for others who can be confused with all this.
There are 4 kinds of custom ROM available.
TW (stock Samsung)
AOSP( Pure Google Android) Won't have any of the Samsung features
AOKP( Based on AOSP but with some more features) Won't have any of the Samsung features but they got the S-pen working.
MIUI (Chinese version of Android with very different style than others) ?????? not sure
ROMs and Kernels comes in 2 formats. ZIP and TAR.
If it's a ZIP file, you flash it in recovery using CWM, TWRP or PHIL.
If it's a TAR file, you need to put your phone in Download Mode and flash it with ODIN.
Custom ROM' almost always come in ZIP(never seen one using TAR but it's not impossible)
Official Samsung ROM almost always come in TAR files
Hope it helps.
I bought an S3 ( i747 with some ATT bloatware on it) on ebay and it came rooted with " Lidroid Mod ( ported by Wanam)"
I am getting ads in the notifications bar and a icon( "get apps" on my homepage keeps on popping back up everytime I delete it.
Can some kind soul give me some basic information:
Can I unroot and return to the original configuration and be ablt to recieve updates to Android
OR
suggest another very stable ROM. I am a simple user so I don't really need fancy mods.
Note: It came with SuperSU and AdvanceS loaded

You can unroot and move back to stock, and I recommend you do that first. Only reason for me would be to completely reset the phone as if you have gotten it the first time. From then on, I would root and play around with this device.
Here is an instruction for you to get started (to unroot):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728824
or
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-unroot/how-to-unroot-att-galaxy-s3-sgh-i747/
After unrooted, simply factory reset your phone so your phone is brand new

If you want to root (and get custom recovery) then follow these instructions:

For roms there are a lot of stable roms, the question is what roms suit you?
If you want pure AOSP builds or something close to that, I suggest CM10.1 (OR soon to be CM 10.2) or Task650's AOKP. I'm actually using Task650's AOKP rom right now, and it's VERY stable. Smooth as well. Battery life is Okay, similar to stock.
CM10.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778270
Task650's AOKP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684
If you want TouchWiz features but you also want an AOSP experience then check out Dandroid:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121506&highlight=multi+window
There are more great roms but I'm lazy to add more lol
Thank you very much
I will give this a try on the weekend
I looked into your suggestions for ROMs and in the threads for them it seems that there are bugs or dev support issues that make me want something more reliable.
Is there a way that I can load a Stock ROM and selectivley eliminate the bloatware?
I have an i747M 32GB

Check out mrRobinson's debloater here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732039
Grab one of the stock firmware downloads and root it and make sure to install CWM recovery. Then use the debloater - he has instructions in the thread.

Thanks guys, I now have a rooted phone with a stock ROM that is deblaoted. ( I would have prefer that mu ebay special unknowingly didn't arrive rooted with suspicious software, but I made the best of it).
Thanks again
This is my device at this point:
1. Rooted 4.4.2
2. Stock T-Mobile ROM
3. I can flash SinLess ROM v2.1.2 with no issues after reboot
ANY Aroma ROM I try to flash (for example, DARTHSTALKER_NOTE3_V6), after reboot after installing results in a bootloop at the Samsung screen.
Are NONE of the Aroma ROMs not working on the T-Mobile Note 3?
I would really like to flash the DARTHSTALKER_NOTE3_V6 but can't if I can't get past the Samsung screen on a bootloop.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Darthstalker is a 4.3 base ROM. It won't work on a 4.4 bootloader, which is what you have if you took the OTA or flashed the Odin 4.4 package. It's not Aroma, it's just that most of the Aroma installer ROMs haven't been updated to 4.4 yet. And Samsung made the bootloader incompatible, so once you are on 4.4, you can't boot a 4.3 ROM.
Same with recovery. Make sure you flash 4.4 bootloader versions of TWRP/CWM or it won't boot.
so what IS a 4.4.2 with Aroma and NOT AOSP?

Thank you for the insight, I was seriously under the (wrong) impression that DeathStalker was a 4.4.2 ROM. I really didn't know.
IS there a list of 4.4.2 stock rooted ROMs with Aroma? You wrote "most of the Aroma installers haven't been updated to 4.4 yet." Which have? It's very confusing because honestly, i was looking and didn't see that DeathStalker was a 4.3 ROM. I went back and looked and noticed a bunch of JB stuff in the list of enhancements which gave it away.
Well, if anyone can suggest a good stable 4.4.2 ROM with Aroma and not AOSP, I want to keep the SPEN functionality that is still missing in CM. Although I do LOVE CM. Used it religiously on my S3.
thank you in advance.
I honestly don't know of any that have. Any reason you want an Aroma installer? It's not like you see it after the install is done. Most modded stock ROMs will list the "base" ROM they started from in the OP. Check that, and if it's a 4.4 base, it will likely work fine on your 4.4 bootloader phone. There's going to be a bit of a rough patch for a while as the ROMs get updated and users get updated. You just have to read up on each one to verify before installing. Just do a thread search for "bootloader" or "4.4" and read some of the posts. Chances are, it's been asked and answered in the thread if you look.
I'm just running a rooted stock build without Knox/CIQ, the stock ZIP that teshxx posted in the dev forum. Then just used Titanium Backup to un-install any bloatware I didn't want. Add a few Xposed modules, and it's a quite good ROM.
If you like CM, the SPEN does work. It acts a bit like a mouse. It's the built-in apps that don't work. You can replace the functionality of many of them. But if you really like some of them, that's not a great option. I ran CM/AOSP builds for a while, but decided the stability of a stock ROM was more important to me right now. I'll probably be back on CM after a while. I like the speed boost from the slimmer ROM.
Awesome reply

What a thoughtful and excellent reply. Thank you very much. I'm looking at MyROM Revolution and may download that.
Honestly, I wanted Aroma because it seemed so much more customizable upon installation rather than taking the vision that a dev had for the ROM they created. I may well be wrong and thank you for the update on CM and SPEN, good to know. I just didn't check out the official CM thread as I had heard no SPEN support yet.
I'm running Sinless ROM and while good, it has a certain non-customizable feel to it. Just looking for something lighter, just not as light until everything is stable of CM.
thank you and if anyone has any suggestions for any 4.4.2 ROMs with (or without) Aroma please pass them on.
Is there a list of 4.4.2 ROMs that are compatible?

2. Where can I find a link to the X-NOTE ROM? (I searched at the top-level of T-Mobile Note 3 forums and found nothing in results)
**UPDATE: IS THIS THE FORUM? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472301

It's that one. N look at there questions&answers thread has how to flash it basically download wifi nfc blue tooth fix and wootevers kernel. Wipe of course. Flash rom(CSC is default and also choose NO kernel) one done go on and flash wootevers kernel then the wifi fix. Zip should be a go I did it reverse and wifi was bad flashed it again all gravy
---------- Post added at 08:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:39 PM ----------
Oh also the side effect I had. It deleted everything in my internal so make sure you put the kernel and wifi fix on ext SD so you'll hace it available. You'll eventually get your pictures back and music too but not 3rd downloads from the net or apps like wallpapers of screen shots. Be aware
Guys, I am struggling to find a way to upgrade my T705 to Lollipop. This is my main phone, so I need a working radio and Xposed.
It seems that the options are either stock, and no Xposed, or various deodexed ROMS that are compatible with Xposed, but no fully working radio/calls.
Am I missing anything? What would you suggest?
There are at least two deodexed T705 LP ROMs with working radio (as they are based on T705 stock roms) that are supporting Xposed:
- Iron ROM V2.0: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/stock-tw-rom-galaxy-tab-s-8-4-t2995235
- SweetROM V1 T705: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61227464&postcount=172
Both ROMs require rooted stock LP fimware running on the tab before flashing. SweetROM is not coming with an own modem binary, so the orignal stock rom modem should be still active after flashing.
Best, maris

Hi,
Try to change the CSC to for example to BTU, then upgrade to Lollipop. It works on my Tab S. I say about stock.
I did it, because I still wait on the official firmware from S.
ODIN helps. Of course, you have to root your Tab again.
Benefits: you don't loose anything due the upgrade from KK to LP.
Xposed - not tested yet . Honestly, I don't need it. I leave without it after my hardware upgrade from SG4 to SG5, then SG6 . Believe me, you have lot of alternative stuff to survive without Xposed.
Good luck...
As I said, I need Xposed. Unfortunately, both deodexed ROMS have flaws (one is battery life). So, I guess we are back to square one...
Maybe someone here can help to deodex the stock LL ROM myself?
I also wondering the same, how to deodex the stock LL ROM so I can use Xposed. Not installing custom ROM...

same process (has worked on other LL roms and devices for me..in particular the tools to extract, deodex and then create flashable zip just for the system files which deletes the original ones and writes the deodexed ones into system app, priv app and framework folders)
in your case you can just get the system files from the zip rom as I needed to get them from the tar image (no zip roms yet for the s2)
had the s1 (or tab s as they may call it the 705) and also tab pro t325 before but quit those before LL came aboard on stock)
