[Q] weird problem flashing roms - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I open this to try to find a solution to a problem that's affecting my desire since years..at first I thought was a rom related problem, but now I think it might be something else.
Here is the link to my other topic with all my phone details http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1328353 only change is stock Samsung 4gb SD.
Now let's talk about weird things happening..
I was on official GB with s-off and root by revolutionary.
I've changed the recovery (cwmr) with the latest 4ext recovery & so far is working like a charm, reformatted sd, done wipe all partitions except SD after mounting everything mountable, done these steps 4 or 5 times then reboot to recovery, done the same then reboot to boot loader, flashed hboot stock with pb99img file, reboot to recovery, flashed cyanomod007 reboot..phone boots up, green HTC logo on white screen, cyanogen animation, setup wizard and..got stuck on change language..same thing with a miui rom 4..and weird things are that flashing hboot is the only way to make a rom boot and other one is that i've to flash wit battery charger plugged in..wth is going on?last time with miui I was able to go through first settings and then stuck on lock screen..any idea?

Same thing happens with all ROMs? Try installing MildWild 5.0. See if it works.

If my Desire HD is anything to go by, can't you access fastboot through hboot? Or even recovery if you say you flashed it. Pull the battery, and use vol down+power

Yeah it does work.
Edit: Now what shall I do?
Now redownload cm7, the cm7 you flashed might be corrupted
connect phone to pc by usb cable
Boot into recovery
From mounts and storage select mount usb
Your pc should see your sd card now
Copy cm7 file to sd
Unmount usb from recovery
Try to flash cm7 again
This should fix the problem

Flashing not working

I've downloaded several different ROMs today, and moved them to /sdcard. I wipe the phone and the cache, and then go to "install zip from sdcard" on Clockworkmod recovery. I've done this several times, and Virtuous Quattro is still here. I'm fairly certain I rooted my phone and everything when I initially installed VQ, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
(Please keep in mind I'm still relatively new to all this phone business.)

well if you don't get any error and, as it sounds, you are doing everything right. I would assume there is an issue with your recovery, I suggest flashing a new one, also I would suggest using 4ext recovery over clockworks as it is superior in many ways.
go to the 4ext website and grap the .img
boot into fastboot
fastboot -w
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot bootloader
now reboot to recovery and perform a full wipe, make sure all is partitioned to ext4 (except fat32 partition of sd)
flash rom of choice
any questions feel free to ask

so even after a full wipe and flash of the rom, you boot back to os and its the same as before, as if you didn't do anything?
and you get no error codes? and you switched to 4ext recovery and it sucessfully changed to it but you get the same problems as you did with clockwork?
is all this correct?

reformat everything except the fat32 partition of sd card, then for safe messure wipe everything and reboot, if you don't get stuck @ the white htc screen then something is wrong (this should wipe your os completley so you won't be able to boot) if it goes into os after a full wipe/reformat then I suggest logging into irc freenode #g2root and get some realtime help

check the md5sums of the roms you are trying to flash, make sure you follow all instructions in the op of those roms, (md5 should be listed where you downloaded and inside 4ext there is an option in the menu to check the sum)

After a long day i've managed to install CWM recovery v5.0.2.8
After that rooted the phone using root.zip from xda.cn script and cwm!
Installed rom manager from market
And finally followed the guide

I've managed to install the rom at the guide and working properly!!!
BUT i still get black screen on recovery as usual!
The next step is to try install speedDroid!!!

Desire Z suddenly not booting... Help needed please.

Hi All.
Hoping someone can help a relative newbie.
About 3 months ago I upgraded to a Galaxy S3 and gave my Desire Z to my girlfriend. Before doing so I flashed it with virtuous rom and wiped everything.
It's been working fine until a few days ago when it started reacting slowly to screen touches then continuing to react, ie she would start scrolling a list and nothing would happen, and then all of a sudden it'd start scrolling and not stop despite the fact that she had stopped touching the screen.
She pulled the battery and rebooted and it seemed fine.
Then yesterday it was ok and all of a sudden it tried to reboot.. Since then it has failed to boot, instead getting stuck on a white HTC screen for a bit, then the screen goes blank, and it vibrates and comes back to the HTC screen.
If I pull the battery then hold volume of and power it will boot into hboot, flash up some text and then sit on the hboot screen.
At the top is the following.
VISION PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.84.2000 (PC1011000)
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
eMmc-boot
Now, I'm hoping I might be able to get it working again but could do with some guidance.
Is it a case of reflashing the rom by sticking it on the sd card and going into the hboot and flashing from there?
If not, then how do I go about it?
Any help very, very much appreciated!

Just take out the SD Card and make back-up of it and Format it hardly ( Fill with zeros ) and also you need to flash a new kernel and a swap enabler.
when you finish formatting the sd card make 128 Mb of swap partition and put the sd card back on.
then find the rom u are using and open that zip file and take out the " boot.img " file and flash it directly via fastboot
fastboot flash boot boot.img

this means you just flashed your kernel.
And this should work for you.

This won't help.
Also, seeing as you're S-OFF, you won't ever need to fastboot flash a kernel, recovery can manage that just fine.

Just had a look through the thread about recovering a desire Z, I'm a bit confuzzled by it all, the there is so much information in it.
Am I right in thinking that the situation I am in is that I have s-off and engineer recovery installed?
So in theory just wiping and reflashing my rom should be ok?
Should there be an option to install from sd card or something like that, or will I need to do it via abd?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
More than likely it is a software issue but there could be more. Best bet is to just wipe clean and flash a ROM via recovery
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
That's pretty much as I thought, and to do that is a case of wiping then sticking rom on memory card and it should let me install from the recovery, something like install from sd or something isn't it?

Just having a quick look at this, when I select recovery from the hboot menu the phone just goes to the same white HTC screen and stays there until I pull the battery. Would this be because I don't have the rom on the SD card yet or is it that the recovery won't load?
If it's a problem with the recovery, can I just bung PC10IMG.zip back on the sd card to reinstall recovery and go from there?
Possibly, but often that's a sign of a fried emmc, it could be other things though. Can you post all the information I ask for

Bootloop after unlock screen

I just rooted/S-off a Dinc2 that I am setting up for my mother, using the "Comprehensive S-off/Rooting Guide". I have not flashed any ROMs or anything. When I boot the phone, it boots up past the white HTC screen to the unlock screen and then starts bootlooping. If I go into recovery and do a factory reset and wipe everything, then it boots normally. However, when I try to restart the same bootloop starts to happen until I wipe again.
Any thoughts as to what could be causing this? I'm hesitant to flash any custom ROMs until I get this resolved.
Thanks in advance.

Actually in the guide for S-off/Root I believe that the .312 radio is included. So I should already have .312 radio.
Well, I flashed a custom ROM and the same problem still persists. It will boot as far as the unlock screen and then it will start bootlooping until I do a factory reset in recovery, then it will boot fine.
Any ideas?
I had radio .312. I flashed .320 and the problem as been resolved, no more bootloops.
