[Q] I need the best Sense based ROM so I can update Profile and prl - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am bringing my Evo 4G back from the grave on RingPlus. I need to update the PRL and Profile, but I have CM7.2 installed on it. I see all development has of course ended for this phone. What are the best sense based ROM's with their newest versions?

There are still roms being developed, not a ton but there are some out there. Ctb has the latest ota updated odex and deoxd.
Check his thread for starters.

Is this an android 2.3 based ROM? The ROM I have used before was MikG but when I went to the forum there was little to no activity so I'm not sure if MikG is still a good ROM or not either, but it doesn't matter since the download links no longer work.
I clicked on the links in this thread, but the download links don't seem to work for Elousions 3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2156492

I installed barebones_evo_4g_467_deodex_012112
So far this one is working. I'm open to suggestions to trying the newer sense one if it runs better or has better battery life.

Could be lagging because your ROM needs to be reset... try factory resetting... and yes your pretty up to date... but fc09 is the latest actually... you could just flash an fc09 rom if your rooted and have a custom recovery...
Also please place questions in Q&A thanks =]

lol, i guess what i mean is there a way that the update can be loaded from the SDcard, and is there a link where i can download the update to my sd card???
that how i installed my last update
Freezing does not mean a new update... FC09 is a very minor change.

How to root UVLDE

I am posting this is because I and a few others seemed to be having the same issue regarding rooting the latest stock rom and now know I know why.
Once the telephone is updated to the latest stock rom: GINGERBREAD.UVLDE.

It can no longer be rooted using the version of the su file the forum posts point to. Although the information in the posts are accurate.
You must use a newer version of the su file. This is the one that worked for me: Corrected http://goo.im/superuser/Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip Corrected
You will get an error message after Clockwork runs the script but everything should be ok.
Basically, if your a newb go to: http://galaxys2root.com/t-mobile-galaxy-s2-faq/
Follow the rooting guide, but instead of using the included su zip file use the one from the link that I provided.
I hope that this helps.

I tried this and it worked for me.
Thanks
I dont want to be rude. Thanks for this but i think this is already posted. If you get error just go back wipe dalvik and cache and flash it again or just flash it a couple times. I got this error when i rooted stock kl1 but i knew it because it was reported already and fix was posted as well. I did exactly same to root LDE and it works. If u get error just flash again...thats all.

Yes, as has been stated even prior to the update, some people had to flash su several times for it to take hold.
If it is aborting, you can also toggle off signature verification. Worked like a charm for me.

Is there an Hboot guide? I haven't updated mine since I rooted. Still on 2.10.0001 I keep my radios, PRL and PRI up to date. Do the newer Hboots contain anything useful or something that I don't already get from a custom kernel? Currently running GB roms. Either Tommytomatoe's or SS_Ultra.

Sorry for the bump. I have been unable to find any type of change-log or recommendations. I saw a couple threads recommending updating the hboot for Anthrax or other kernel use. Basically, I am mostly on stock kernel 2.6.35.10.

You don't HAVE to update your radio to use the rom. And if you're on the 2.10 hboot, I'd strongly recommend to NOT change it; one of the most friendly bootloaders.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ONLY reason to change hboot is from difficulty with rooting, or esn changes.
Other than that, I've been on 3 different hboot versions an can't tell a difference.
If its not broke, don't mess with it. You can really mess up your phone by playing with the hboot.

Sorry. I had to do it
need to get my evo working so this help

[MOD][CWM][SCRIPT]Reodex your ROM and be faster

This CWM script will reodex any Samsung stock-based ROM - any custom ROM that is.
Additionally, with BOOTCLASSPATH edit in dexo.sh it can work on any ROM and phone.
Reodexing gives some people perceivable speed up. And it frees data partition from system dalvik cache. So dalvik-cache rebuild is also accelerated.
I ran it with stock kernel (root injected). And had problems with running it on any custom kernel.
http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/1RIUERDW/universalOdex2.zip_links
Also a good example of output from shell script into CWM console.

I'm not sure why you'd need deodex on the fly.
Wanam has a good guide on deodexing stock ROMs.
Odexing is on the other hand is relatively new and fancy way of speeding up.

thank you. my sgs3 is flying high!
Are the links just updated or is the script also i see a 2 at the end?
Mount part of the script updated. Now system is properly mounted.
On a side note - CM9 with Theme Manager and applied themes reverts odexing back. Figures. Pick your poison - odexing or theming.
Will this work with miui??

Yeah I checked but this device is weird as you know and I wanted a bit of assistance not wise ass remarks. I'm new on this part of xda and with a flashed phone I know some roms don't work correctly. That's why I asked not to be lazy. Check my stats I do a lot of support for the one xl. And one thing I wouldn't do was post a link to a totally different device, someone with less common sense could brick with wrong info.

My bad, I read that as G2, I apologize. I was confused as to why this was posted here. If you want a ROM that works correctly go with TouchWiz. AOSP ROMs are pretty buggy on this device, especially KitKat.
What do I need to do to go from stock rooted this is a confusing device and I also still have stock recovery
Gb27 by the way

Get Mobile Odin, flash this kernel (.tar format)-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2244781 in Mobile Odin and that will give you a custom recovery
Would u recommend wiping dalvik and cache? Or is it safe to just reboot into the stock rom?

If all you flash it the kernel, its safe to reboot without wiping anything. However, I would follow any and all directions given by the OP of any ROM or kernel you flash to the letter. Otherwise, you're asking for issues. This is a confusing device, and there are so many little nuances that need to be done just right to avoid problems.
If you take nothing else away from this post, remember this website www.rwilco12.com, it will save your device if you run into issues or just need anything for the device. Every ROM, kernel and modem leaked and/or released for this device by Samsung is on there and will return you to stock in a heartbeat.:good:
