Ok, so I'm attempting to go from stock to CM 10.1.3, but I'm running into an odd issue. Note - I'm not a newbie to installing ROMS, having done so with my old Captivate quite regularly, but I *am* a newbie to installing them on my S3.
So, the issue is this: I am rooted, CWM (6.0.3.7) is installed, I have everything backed up with the latest version of TitaniumBackup Pro, and had it create a zip file so I could install it from CWM after doing the CM install (and I do a Nandroid backup as well). I install CM 10.1.3, install GAPPS, and install TitaniumBackup from CWM. I boot up CM, load up TitaniumBackup (sometimes I have to boot into CM first, go through setup, and THEN reboot to Recovery in order to get TitaniumBackup installed properly), and TitaniumBackup can't see *any* of the files in my internal SD card. Then I check with the file browser, and sure enough, it can't see *any* of my pre-CM files either. All of the folders are there, (not just stock file folders, but ones that I've created) but it can't see any files within those folders. I also can't see any of the files when I browse through USB on my computer, but all the folders are there. Has anybody experienced something like this? Is there something really simple and stupid that I'm missing/should be checking for?
Here's my setup, pre-CM install:
Rogers Galaxy S3 (i747M)
Android 4.1.2
Baseband I747MVLDMF1
Build number JZO54K.I747MVLDMF1
I rooted and installed CWM via the method in this thread (though I got the AT&T s3 version of CWM directly from the CWM page instead of using either of the ones linked in that thread).
Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I'm tired of the stock JB that Rogers provides, and wanted to give CM a chance, but not being able to see any of the files on my SD card is frustrating me, and making me leery of keeping the install there. Worst case scenario, I can install it, format the internal SD card, and then copy everything back over from my computer via USB, but that is a REAL hassle and I'd still be left wondering if there was something else broken.
Thanks!
Also: I do a standard wipe/factory reset before installing CM. When I restore my Nandroid backup, all is back to normal. I *did* google to see if anybody else had the same problem, but my google fu has failed me. Umm, I can't think of any other pertinent information I could offer.

Perfect! I'll try that tonight. Thanks muchly! :good:
Upon further messing about, I've found that it's still a bit flaky/unreliable. Apps randomly crashing, files and folders inaccessible and/or not visible despite being in /data/media/0, etc etc. Decided just to go back to stock for now, I'll take another stab at it some other time.

so i have the bell pay as you go edition of the gio
and when i got it, i just uninstalled as much crap as i could
one of those happen to be 'Talk', which i now discovered is google talk (thought the app was called gtalk)
uninstalling it makes it disappear forever and you cannot find it in the market
in addition to that, i uninstalled whatever app/service needed to run live wallpapers
so if someone could rip/backup those apps and upload it here, many thanks
(i tried installing the talk apk on it's own, and the talk service apks, it does not like me install for some reason)
last question is,
any 5660m users got adobe flash running, i tried the stand alone armv6 apk, installed it, and does nothing
the other flash apk with loading the lib files into the root dir, i have not tried, if i can get the standalone apk working, i'd rather do that
any other tips for the 5660m would be great
thanks
edit - see post #9 (need help with stock browser)
Promise you'll back things up the next time?
Look at my stock rooted ROM for the files you shouldn't have deleted. You should be able to read (not write, at least not in a way the phone can handle) the RFS partitions with MagicISO among others. (Basically any program capable of handling FAT partition images.)
ADB push back the files into place, make sure their permissions are correct.
Can't help you for Flash, I've never tried it myself and my Gio is out of order for the time being.
For flash you need root and push LIB files to /data/data/com.adobeflash***/lib ant set permissions

so this is something i cant just grab someone's titaniumbackup files and install?
That too, if you have another rooted Gio at your disposal. I answered based the info I got.
ya, sorry, that's sorta what i meant in the first post,
i was actually asking for someone's to backup the gtalk/talk service/app and the live wallpaper service/app with titanium backup and upload it
if someone could do that for me, much appreciated
Try this and let me know if it works.

thanks, that did the trick
additionally i want to ask:
is the reason 5660m incompatible with most of the custom roms is the slight difference in hardware?
if i were to change microsd card, is a drag and drop to the new card sufficient or are there hidden/protected files that cannot be copied
lastly,
if i were to update the rom/install custom rom, is there any way to back up settings and apps or would i have to do stuff all over again?
gonna bump this again,
I need the stock browser this time, if someone would kindly back up from titanium backup
i'm just testing some compatibilities on certain websites

Only the roms flashed from Odin usually aren't compatible with our phone anything else such as CM7.1, CM7.2, CM9, and all the other roms able to be flashed from
Recovery mode are mostly compatible with our version of gio hope I helped
Sent from my GT-S5660M using xda premium
What isn't compatible are the baseband and the bootloaders.
As long as an Odin-flashable ROM contains only system and boot.img you're in the clear. This is mostly a problem with early Europe/Asia 5660 ROMs.
Drag and dropping your files to the new SD card should do the trick. Hidden files and folders for Android (and Linux) have a dot at the beginning of their name, e.g.: /.android_secure/ and by default there shouldn't be any files with the FAT32 "hidden" attribute set on the SD card. The settings of your Windows Explorer will influence whether or not the latter copy over or not.
Backing up your applications and their settings can be done by applications like Titanium Backup. Most should transfer well from one ROM "family" to another. (As in: from stock to CM7, or CM7 to CM9, or CM9 to stock...) Your mileage will vary if you try to transfer system apps, or system settings.
so why do you (have to?) use odin, i thought there is CWM for gio, isnt that better than odin?
and still looking for a titanium backup of stock browser
maybe i should just install the ics rc

I dunno what you are talking about, My canadian Gt-S5660M runs all custom firmwares, kernels, scripts etc just fine.
Odin and CWM are different and each serves their purpose.
Odin works with the lower level Download Mode, and can recover from situations CWM can't. It is also the usual way to install CWM in the first place. (You could also do it with a clever dd command on a rooted phone.) It is however cloakware, undocumented, difficult to install, buggy at times and just quirky overall.
CWM is more stable, doesn't require a computer to run, and is generally much safer to use.
AlwaysDroid: If you look at very early posts about the 5660M, many users encountered major issues after flashing European 5660 ROMs. Screen brightness all over the place and no network connection.
The problem was that those ROMs were Odin flashable "One Package" files that contained bootloaders and radio images as well. Those files were required for users upgrading from Froyo to Gingerbread, as stock Gio 5660s were also sold with 2.2 unlike the 5660M.
Just to preface, I have been flashing ROMs for 2 years now, and am by no means new to the game. However, I'll be the first to say that I'm not immune to making stupid mistakes. So if I'm being stupid, you can tell me and not hurt my feelings
I will give a history of what I have done with my phone since Monday after I picked it up, and some quirks I have noticed.
- Set up my phone, accounts etc
- Let Google backup/restore download and install all of my apps
- Installed OTA to ALJC
- Installed Note2 Toolkit on my PC, drivers load, adb recognizes.
- Rooted & Installed CWM recovery
- Flashed stock de-odexed ALJC
- Installed 5x6 launcher & ALJC 4x1 reboot options (rebooted and proceed to setup my homescreens, icons, etc.) (I noticed when trying to flash items from "internal" sd card, it says there are not any
- inserted my SD Card from my OG Epic (Titanium backups in place)
- Restored text messages from .xml file via TB
- None of the games I wanted to transfer data from would run after restoring data from my TB backups, had to clear data and apps run fine, except for NBA Jam (guessing b/c they were from a CM10 ROM and a different device)
-Got all my apps setup, wiped all the bogus data I got from my prior TB backups. After playing with the phone, running apps for several hours, did a full Titanium backup of my phone
- Booted to CWM & Saved a nandroid backup to external SD Card
- Flashed (dirty) ULE 1.0 ALJC Rom (I thought by flashing dirty, it would preserve all my data, apps, etc. = I was wrong)
- Attempted to restore all of my Titanium backups (only ~60% would restore...still trying to figure this out).
- Attempted to restore the backed up 5x6 launcher (with my screens/icons setup intact) via TB. This kind of worked, it definitely changed the icon setup, but it was NOT 5x6, and it did not have my previous layout (probably b/c it was trying to fit a 5x6 on a 4x4).
- Figured that the dirty flash screwed things up, so I would restore my nandroid and go back to square one, where I had stock deodexed with 5x6 & reboot options, and launcher screens intact. So I booted CWM and restored that nandroid.
- After restoring and rebooting, I'm not sure if anything happened at all. I had a 4x4 launcher, no reboot options, and several of my apps were missing (particularly, the ones that would not restore from TB before)
- Figured I aught to factory reset and then restore, same result as above.
- Currently downloading stock ALJ1 tar so I can start all over again

I know this is long-winded, but I wanted to put it all out there in case I am doing something categorically wrong with my Note II, so I do not replicate this problem. It has always been the case that a nandroid backup gets me back EXACTLY where I was when I made it (on both my Touchpad & Epic). For whatever reason, this did not happen in this case, even after a factory reset/wipe.
Perhaps CWM isn't working properly? Perhaps I need to try TWRP so that I can manually wipe /system (as far as I can tell you can't manually do that in CWM, but if I understand correctly, this is done when you flash a ROM or restore a nandroid).
Am I doing something wrong? Also, why won't CWM see any of the files I downloaded to the internal memory? Several times now I have booted CWM and when I try to flashing things I downloaded, I have to reboot and move them to my external SD card so that CWM can see them.
Are there settings that are being saved to my external SD card that are causing problems (I highly doubt it)?
Thanks to any and all suggestions/guidance/advice.
Looking forward to learning more and more about these awesome devices.

Well I personally use twrp and have had no issues so I cannot speak on your nandroid issues...I do know however that in twrp after selecting internal or external sd card, you sometimes have to manually navigate to the respective sdcard...as for your TB not seeing your back ups from your prior device, go to preferences< backup location< detect and select scan whole device

Just to clarify your remarks to avoid confusion. I can clearly see my TB backups.
I did have to go and do those steps first. About only half of them would restore though. Kind of odd. Maybe some data corruption? Didn't matter if I did them one at a time or during batch mode. Also didn't matter which of the 3 processing modes I selected in TB. Once one of the offending backups was being processed in batch mode, the restore process would hang until I force stopped TB or rebooted.
How much free storage does your internal sd have remaining? I ask because my wife's s3 would do the same when it was below 1gig
Multiple GB, probably 7 or 8. I store everything on my external, music, pics, etc. Haven't had that much chance to fill up the internal yet =]
I don't know. ..Very irritating isn't
It is indeed. But that's the risk of being a flashaholic
...and of being a first-mover on a brand new device =]
Beginning to wonder if me rooting with SuperSu, and then flashing (dirty) ULE which uses superuser, may have caused any problems. Perhaps binaries were conflicting?

I am really puzzled now, I just odined back to stock and then up through all rooting/etc to get to ULE again. Totally wiped everything. TB is still giving me fits. I'm assuming they backups were bad. Half work, half don't.
I was able to restore apps from a nandroid I made on my OG Epic a month ago. So that's helpful. I'm going to delete all my TB backups once I get everything situated and start fresh (possibly b/c I made backups while on an odexed ROM and restored them on a deodexed ROM?).
I think I'm going to stick with TWRP for now. I don't know if CWM was working properly at all, and TWRP has a few more features. TB wasn't able to see a single app to restore from the two CWM nandroids I made. Not sure what's up with that.
I was going to mention the codex stuff but it really shouldn't matter as you are backing up the data portion not the system. Still you might have a look at setting/storage. USB debug on ...all that jazz

Hi, its my first time posting, I figured I wanted to sign up to XDA eventually so why not when I feel like I've completely ruined my phone... or at least internal sd card...
Basically I rooted my phone and was flashing the Jellybam rom, and everything was going smoothly until I got to the bootloader and my phone started bootlooping. My first thought was 'Oh but I have a backup'. So I went to my backup in CWM and to my dismay I got an error saying "No files were found."
I could clearly see my files from exploring around on my sd card however they were now in a file called '0' and CWM could not read them from there. Without a working ROM I started to panic. However I had a zip of CM10 still on my internal sd card so I flashed that and (luckily) it worked.
Not really being too competent with flashing new ROMs yet I was quite happy that I had anything. So I used titanium backup to reinstall my old apps and data. However once they were installed I now get an error with 'the process android.process.media has stopped'.
I'm guessing this has do do with the fact that I have all my files still on the '0' folder. All the other folders from the '0' folder were the same except they were all empty, soooooo I decided to delete them. At this point I'm guessing that was a really bad idea because my initial plan of moving all the files from '0' to my pc then back to my phone, I did not think about the fact that I would be moving 14 Gb of data...
So basically now I'm hoping if someone knows a way to revert my phone to 4.1.2 by somehow moving all the files from '0' back onto the internal storage (basically getting rid of this '0') folder. The CM10 ROM is a 4.1.2 ROM so its not like I'm fudging up my phone further (I hope).
If you could be as detailed as possible as to what to do that would be great, because I'm really really new to this....
From what I've read I've heard a couple of suggestions:
1. updating the recovery.img of CWM will work? How exactly do I do this?
2. opening abd shell recovery and moving the files like that (however I deleted all the other files in the internal storage apart from '0' because that was where all the data was stored and everything else was empty...'
help. :crying:

So how exactly do I do that? I just download the the latest clockwork mod and flash it? Why can't it be updated via an automatic updater? And what will it do to the file or will it change clockwork mod so that it will scan the entire sd card?
Also if I just remade folders identical to the ones I deleted, will that still work?
I'm just trying to get my phone to be as functional as it was before this all started.
Thanks for replying btw!

That's a lot of question for the simple fix I gave you.. I haven't used cwm in a while so Idk what changed in the update but if people said it fixed it, then it did..
0, 1, 2, etc.. Is something that came with JB, it's for the different users. Not much can be done about it.
About how you should do that: Go on their website, FOLLOW their instructions to a T, Enjoy.
As for why it can be updated via an automatic updater.. Well I'm not the person you should ask.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just worried that I messed up my phone. Would you know if I were able to be able to access my old clockwork mod backups and used one of them, would it put my 0 files back into the internal storage like they used to? Or would it only revert the settings and I would still be SOL.

Yes, that's the whole point of the cwm update. Now to flash it!
Or, go digg through the cm nightly thread. They had a flash able zip that would restore your internal sd after downgrading Android versions.

Hi. I managed to root my S3 and remove Knox. At first, TWRP was working fine, but after a few unsuccessful attempts to flash CM, I think i screwed it up. My backup files are gone, and it won't make a new one as it "cannot access storage." It also takes up about 6 gigs of storage on the phone per applications manager, which seems like a lot.
Is there a way to delete it and do a fresh install? now that I am rooted, would another backup/recovery be better?
I have tried searches, nothing seems to be on oint. Perhaps I was casting my net too wide or too narrow.
THANKS
Probably has to do with the /0/0/0 folders. Every time you flashed something, itd create a new /0 directory. Your stuff is still there but the path is messed up so it doesn't know where to look. In twrp file manager look for /storage/0/0/0 or something/somewhere like that. (It's been a while so I may not be remembering exactly right) this is a well documented issue though, so if im wrong just Google it and you're sure to find the right info. I believe it may be covered in one of the sticky threads too.

Idk if this is your issue or not but I had a problem where recovery couldn't find the files or access storage I had the wrong version of recovery flashed and it wouldn't read anything I originally had the right one but somehow I lost recovery and ended up flashing the wrong one and it did what you are describing I'm on cwm so I'm not sure which is the right twrp but I'd just make sure you have the right one for your model. Good luck figuring it out though I know you will if you do your homework you will get it.
I went in and looked at the files, I had several named backups. I deleted all but one.
Goo Manager wouldn't load the newest TWRP, so I went to the app store and downloaded the app.
Now it takes far less space and recognizes the one backup.
THANKS for bearing with me.
I put a copy of the backup on my computer, just in case. Going to try flashing CM again, hope I can get it to work.
Hey guys, it's been a long time since I've been flashing roms and stuff and I barely came back since I was tired of this jellybean Rom I'm on. Right now I have an older Rom that from what I an seeing isn't being developed anymore, wicked v10, Android 4.1.1, and I went through all the backups, with using tb to back up my apps, and I went into my recovery, cleared data and system, flashed quantum 3.6.4, flashed pa gapps, the same old stuff, and after I set up, I noticed the emulated sd card as I expected as it did that to me when I used to run aokp, but I could not ever find for the life of me any of my titanium backup backups, screenshots, etc. Even when I checked my other sd card folders. I found that strange since when I restored my backup, I was easily able to find the rest of the things mentioned. So what am I doing wrong? Also, is there a way to port my sms to hangouts as the new Rom used, and will I be able to used the restore backups of my contacts through the xml or something file that I generate in my contacts app when I used the app that comes with the new Rom? Thx in advance
Adding on to the fact I cannot edit my old post from my buggin out xda app, I seem to have found out whats wrong, which is that my internal sd is either not mounted properly, or cannot be read properly, while flashing ANY kitkat rom. I tried to search forums and google for a solution to this but I couldn't turn up anything. So can anyone at least tell me if this is a recurring bug on cm11 or kitkat based roms or am I just screwing up on something along the way?

Have you tried Odin flashing your firmware and factory resetting after?
Could also be the /0/0/0/ folder problem. Every time you flash a rom it adds another /0 and that becomes the default directory. Look in /storage (maybe wrong, going by memory). It's well documented though. Check the faq sticky, I think it may be covered there.

I have not tried odin flashing and all that stuff just yet but I checked every possible folder using es file explorer and it seems not to be mounted. I will check the faq though
EDIT: FAQ didn't come up with anything. The only thing I can do now is to Odin my phone but I'm not sure exactly if it would work and be worth my time. It seems as if other people with different devices using cm11 and cm11 based roms have had this issue
