XDA Website Almost Unusable With Chrome On Note 10.1 - About xda-developers.com

The XDA forums are difficult to read with Chrome on the Note 10.1 N8010, since every time an advert is refreshed, the page jumps back to the top. This is infuriating, especially for a site dedicated to mobile devices.
Is there anything that can be done to prevent this? I don't see any settings in Chome?

Everybody facing the same problem and looking for solution. But I have seen that nobody having solution. When I find it, will share with everybody.

Lodging a formal complaint against XDA

First of all, let me just say that I love this forum. I learned so much from it and I do appreciate the hard work that everyone does on it and contributions that are made on it.
I am lodging a formal complaint about the forum itself. I know XDA has an Android app of the forum in all it's glory, and it is a great app (could use some improvements, but that's another story) and I do use it constantly.
However, I also have Opera Mini and I have XDA on my speed dial to quickly go to my beloved G1 forum. This morning, I went to XDA through Opera after getting an error code ls2 on the XDA app, and what do I get???? A pop-up nagware box that says that you have a native app.
While that is fine for the first time I go to XDA, it is NOT fine anymore when the box pops up every time I go to a thread. EVERY TIME! If I click OK, I can proceed to the thread I want to read... If I click cancel... oops... Opera freezes and I don't get to go on.
Guys... I like both OK and I have my reasons to keep using the browser and not the app to access these forums. Can you just nag me once or not at all, please?
Thanks.
I've moved the thread to the correct sub-forum, our tech admins don't frequent off topic too often .
I'll ask someone to have a look at this for you.

Sorry about this. It was only supposed to tell you ONCE that there is an app available, not multiple times. We turned off this function for now until we fix it, so you shouldn't see the pop up.
Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate all the hard work.
You may also want to change the title
Sounds like the issue is with Opera, not XDA. Since it works just fine with the stock browser, and even firefox with UAString changed.
Opera may not have the correct cookie information being sent or received.

XDA Forums Site - Video Adverts

Hi There!
I am not sure if this the right area, but I am writing to find out how I can get rid of the video ads that have start popping up over the last few weeks/months.
They are incredibly intrusive and even though the topics are benign (Soap advertisements) it's often embarrasing if I am on the phone with a client to have them start randomly and loudly.
I do understand that on a site provided for free adverts are a reality, I would just ask the choice of video adverts be reviewed.
Is there a paid subscription that I can use to avoid them or a way to just block those ads (I understand an Ad Blocker would not be fair).
Thanks.
Next time you see one, can you please take a screenshot of it and send it via PM to "svetius". He looks after all the ads and stuff. We don't deliberately put these ads on the forum, as we know how annoying they can be
Hi, any news on this? Lately I've been getting strange popups (or rather, redirections) when loading XDA-Dev (and only on XDA-Dev) on my Galaxy Nexus - almost always NSFW.
I'll PM a screenshot next time it happens (it's only once it a blue moon)...

Hmm there should definitely not be any of these. Do you have any details of the advert? We need to try and be sure it is coming from xda, as it could be an app or another tab...
But if you know details of it we can have a look at this. PM anything to svetius
It was just some porn advert or other. No other tabs were open, and no porn apps or anything similar is installed...
It only happens when I open an XDA link directly from GMail (i.e. topic reply notifications)...
I'll make sure to take a screenshot next time.
Starting to think it might be a Germany thing. What ISP is your WiFi connected to? I'm on 1&1...

Redirect to smartphonegirls.com

Hi all,
Since the last view days I randomly get redirected smartphonegirls.com when I am browsing to xda-developers forum with my android devices. It didn't really happen with my laptop yet so I don't know if catched smth like a virus or similar. However I truly doubt it as it happens with both my android devices and one of them was just freshly flashed.
Does any one else have this problem as well?

I have never heard of this. Might be an app you have installed on the decices
Yes, I can confirm this and I could do without it as well. Any way to stop it?
We are trying to track this down right now... It appears difficult to reproduce though.
Is this over wifi or 3G? What provider do you have as well?
Got the same site and done some investigation here. Identified 2 sites ( wetter24.de and epicfail.com) where this site pop ups.
I downloaded an useragent modifier for firefox and switched it to android. Then I use http header to see where the redirect will be done or which object is responsible for it. It looks like that google ads could be the reason, because the ads are dynamically and probably a js will be execute the redirect.
Unfortunately I can´t exactly identify the object and today I got the page again.

I never had it via 3G yet, but I mostly (>90%) use WiFi so I can't really rule that out.
Provider would be Vodafone Germany.
At least for me it only occures with my Android devices - I never experienced it with my Laptop (running Linux Mint 12 with latest FF version from repos 10.0.2)
On Android I have
SGSII with CheckROM RevoHD v6 & RedPill Kernel Rev1.3 (GB)
Acer Iconia A500 with Taboonay 3.1 ROM (ICS)
It happened with both devices so far. On the Acer it was actually when only had very few apps installed (which I don't think might be responsible for it as I used them since a long time)
What I also suspect is that it only happens when I am not logged in to the site. At least it never happened to me so far when I was logged in.
I hope this helps a bit. If there is anything you would like me to test, please let me know. I am happy to assist in any way I can.

It just happened again.
Here is what I did (using WiFi)
searched in google search for xda developers
clicked on the result which actually leads to xda developers forum
wait until the site loads completely
just before it is finished loading the redirect occurs and I can see the sie with the FSK18 (thats an age classification - means you need to be 18 to see the content ...bla bla..9 red symbol warning
see attached screenshot.
my redicect actually goes to:[nourl]http://cat.m.smartphonegirls.de/wwf-splashTool/SEO/iGirls_wap_fsk18_kw14_16?transaction_id=10396fe92e93a57bca7eb007875b4e&path=SPOQ[/nourl]
Using Wifi is the only way that you can reproduce this.
Then what might be happening:
You normally connect through mobile webpages through your droid.
When you are on an open wifi connection, it lets alot more data flow in and out of your droid. Searching for xda and maybe clicking on a searched link will send you there first.
FIX: Save xda as your favorite or home page and it will go straight to the actual site instead of sending you through click.it links etc.

I understand, but the redirect happens from xda-developers. I can see the xda url in the browser while XDA is loading (there is nothing preceeding it), the redirect occurs only at the end of loading the XDA developer page. So I don't think that problem is coming from the link I click to get to XDA.

Or just cancel further loading before the redirect occurs.... It is no big issue which keeps me from using XDA - But my main concern was that it was actually happening at all and I wasn' t sure if I catched smth on my devices or if it is a general problem.
I could reproduce this on xda-developers.com. Unfortunately I can´t post the headers because its not allowed for me to post urls.
If the xda-developers admins like to have the entire header stack just give me a short message. Really strange thing.
The same happens, randomly as well, with the site androidcommunity.com. Both with the android bowser and chrome beta. This is f.... annoying. Any ideas how to avoid this?

I am having the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus with AOKP Milestone 4 and on my Acer A500 with flexreaper r9. I figured out the related redirect. But I cant post it due to url policies. It comes from...
"tracking.kissmyads.com"
If you want the details give me a short info.
Have uploaded the headers for review.
Had the same experience today with Opera Mobile on the "Cyanide & Happiness" page (webcomic). Looked at the latest strip and redirected as soon as the page was fully loaded. Didn't happen on the built-in browser though.
Tried setting the user agent from mobile to desktop and it seems to have fixed it. Switched back to mobile for testing and didn't get the ad again yet. Hopefully that helps.

Infinite ads - no back button

I have written this on the main interface page and received no answers.
On some pages I get to a point where no matter how many times I click on the back button, the page goes nowhere. When I long click on the back button it shows a list and there are pages of the same link that has the word ads in it. If I click on the bottom item in the list and long click on the back button again, the same list comes up. If I do this several times, I finally get to where I was to navigate to the page.
While I haven't actually taken the time to count, I am sure that there are over 40-50 page listings that come up from one page with only a few messages.
I am using IE9 and I want to know what I can do to stop this overtly evil behavior. I fully understand the need for ads but I don't see any good reasoning to hijack my page. If I click on a link in the page, I can then go back to normal. It doesn't happen on every page, just sometimes.
Since my bookmark to this site is on IE9 and not Chrome or Firefox and since I navigate to this site only on my desktop, I don't get the problem elsewhere. This behavior is only on this site. Some sites open pop under windows (also evil) and pop up windows (annoying) but this one really gets me angry.
Again, how does one get this bad beharior to stop???!!!
Please help:crying:
I just went back to the offending page and several times it only had two instances of the ads link. I then went to Chrome and it didn't happen at all. I know there is evil here because it is related to advertising. Is someone posting hiding something here? Is the site doing this to me? Is it an attack on IE because of the anti microsoft sentiment?
Why Why Why???
I'm done. I'm hoping for some answers now.
Sorry about the rant. I have to use IE because it is what my non technical wife is used to and the always there bookmarks on the left are important. We also have land line becasue she won't give it up.
Ummm. Don't think your in the right place dude. You'd be better off searchin ms support or at least using a windows forum. This is Android!
But to try to help, sounds like a browser hijacker, or malware. You need to run scans with malwarebytes, spybot, hijack this, anti-virus....you get the idea.
Sorry I can't help you more than that. Good luck

I know that it is off topic, but since it only happens here I thought I would try here next. I also have a request in the Chrome forum as to how to get the left side bar bookmarks there.
Thanks, I hope it doesn't get deleted until I at least get some answer. I won't post here on this subject until someone asks me to qualify my question.
If you haven't already, download and run malwarebytes. Its one of the best and can find tons of stuff that regular AV can't.
As for bookmarks, if it comes to it there are utilities you can use to back them up. Then uninstall/reinstall IE.
You can also import bookmarks from/to chrome.

You have a virus or some serious malware.
Do a fresh install of windows, problem solved, stop being such cry baby.

While looking for another solution (to another problem) I found your post. The same thing happened to me today on this site.
The problem is not your PC, nor your browser and is not a malware issue either. In fact, it's from a script that is specifically designed to disable the browsers' back button. You see, the back button does not generate any revenue towards pay-per-click and/or similar schemes. Click-throughs, however, will...
Chances are that one of the page ads loaded the script (usually java) and set a cookie as well (to prevent one from replicating the problem).
Closing the browser window is about the only way to get around it. Holding the pull-down for the back-button only shows numerous versions of the same page.
Other browsers have plugins that can prevent the script from running in the first place and/or block the ads entirely.
If it keeps happening then you should contact one of the Forum Mods.
Hope this helps.

At OP, if you are still having problems with the site, got to the main XDA page and flag an admin to check out your issues. Plus you could search there and if no results pop up or no one else is having the issue, there error could be between the chair and keyboard. If you want this to remain open, it is your choice but you will have better luck in the main XDA section, rather than the SGS3 section.
Shoot me a PM if you want it closed. If no PM by morning my time, then it is gone.

xda forum pages reloading when interacted with in chrome?

So this is a pretty weird problem here.... I've noticed that whenever I'm browsing these forums on my Note 3 (it also seemed to happen sometimes on the sgs3 as well) I will run into this problem. What happens is when I go to a page that lists threads or forums, so a device's main page, the main forum page, or a forum itself, the page loads fine but when I actually try to interact, be it zoom in so that I can see things easier, or scroll down, or even click a search box, the whole page will begin to reload. Then once reloaded, half the time I can use the page without it happening again (all though hardly ever on the sgs3) and the other half of the time it would just happen again. The only way to keep it from happening that I found is to simply load the page, then when I go to interact with it I just do so near the top of the page so that if the thing starts to reload then I can quickly tap on the x button to stop it. If I do this then it won't bother me again like that on that page. I can scroll or type or whatever. But as soon as I go to another forum, device page, or even the next page of the same forum, the same thing , will happen.
Does anyone know why this is happening and any way to correct it? Is it an issue with chrome itself, as this only seems to happen on chrome, but my issue there is that I like chrome abd o especially like the way my bookmarks settings and passwords are shares across my own personal devices. So any ideas to fix this? It's driving me nuts! Oh and yes I know I could use the app but I'm just not that fond of it. I've even bought the premium one to support the forum a little but I'd just rather use the browser. Thanks for any help....I'm sure some others are experiencing this issue.

They should not activate a default setting that is bugged on a browser most users browse these forums with!
