erased efs folder on lg optimus g - Sprint LG Optimus G

So I flashed a few roms onto my phone. I only got one to allow me to still have signal. But I now found new instructions telling me I should have backed up the efs folder. On the one rom i got working the only thing that still didn't work. And I am pretty sure that is from not having an imei or something like that. I'm a total noob here. So can someone help me figure out how to get that back or direct me to instructions that will do just that and I will go back to stock rom if need be.

Which one allows signal, and is it strong enough? If so just back up efs from that ROM in TWRP and restore that efs over your favorite ROM. You could flash a stock ROM and update PRL and profile. Then go back. Either way try and get a working efs backup.

Do you have a nandroid back up on twrp? And if so did you back up your efs when you made your back up. If you do wipe and flash your nandroid backup.. This happened to me.... Good luck

[Q] looking to switch roms? currently running jellybomb

Im new all this rooting and rom stuff and yesterday morning i successfully rooted and inststalled the jellybomb 14.0.0 jelly bean rom thanks to qbking77's on point videos. so the question is... how can i switch which rom im running? i like the jellybeen roms and im looking to explore more to see which better suits my needs. ive heard of doing clean/dirtry instals or something of the sort but i want the best and safest way possible so i dont run into any bricking trouble. please help?
Ok, read up on how to flash a recovery
Download the rom of your choice and place it.on your sdcard. Once you do that you can install roms by booting into recovery and finding the zip for the rom you want to flash and selecting it through the "install zip from sdcard" option
Now a clean install is whenyou wipe all partitions, aka blocks of your phones memory, (details farther down) and then install the rom zip. This method minimizes the chances for problems to occur after installing
A clean flash involves:
Formatting system
Formatting / Clearing data (also known as a factory reset)
Wiping cache
Wiping / Clearing dalvik cache
Now a dirty flash is when you just flash the new rom zip over whatever you're currently rumning, without clearing anything. This method is only recommended when flashing an updated version of the same rom, and even then, the nature of some updates can require you to do a clean flash.
One more thing, DO NOT flash any roms, mods, or zips for the international version. That usa surefire way to brick your debice because the partitions are completely different.
To learn more about how android and this.stuff works, I would suggest heading over to xda,university.com

Backup via CWM (RECOVERY) is mainly for restoring the same rom or going back to the rom you were running if experimenting, Now, can use apps such as Titanium backup to save all the other settings, apps and things. Once you flash your new rom, download it, open program and can restore your stuff that way. Personally, I'll wipe, start from scratch, sometimes i'll download an app i never use, and it just allows me to clear out the useless ones.. Happy flashing!

Yes as said above, a backup through recovery (also called a "nandroid" ) stores an EXACT image of the current state of your device. Meaning all data, all system files, all apps, radios, etc. Backing up through an app, like Titanium Backup, only backs up certain things like apps and app data
Basically, if you're trying any experimental stuff that may break your system (for example, flashing a new modem or testing to see if a certain kernel works), then a nandroid is the way to go because you can restore to an exact image of a state when everything was working
Yea I did that the 1st time and couldnt recover anything. Is there a certain way I should recover or maybe I did something wrong? Im not sure. Sorry if im sounding stupid but I cant return my phone if I screw it up so im tryin to be as safe as possible. Hopefully thats understandable

No no, its recovery
The recovery is basically something that allows you to install zips, it doesnt actually have much to do with recovering anything lol
But first do what was suggested right above me to check to see if you have a recovery installed
To get a more detailed description of what a recovery is and what it does, you can get over to xda-university and read through the "as user" section on recoveries
Think cwm has saved a few phones on here. Me I don't use a pc. Easy just with phone. If he's deleted his folder should he recoveR then it would bring that folder bk?

OK titanium bkup. But don't restore all things if your backing up at lot as will save 4.1.2 4.2.1 and 4.2 2 and so on. Don't want to mix as fc will happen

Why you flashed manually with Mobile Odin? The recommended method is to let PmR use the Custom Recovery to flash the MOD. Which recovery do you have installed on your phone? CWM, TWRP?

Stuck at the Samsung logo for quite some time now, what does that mean?
Should i wipe and factory reset or is there an alternative way out?
If you had cwm already then no meaning to use mob odin, anyway if factory reset doesn't work then have to Reflash rom.

Well, at least the wifi and data are both working now, whew
You have a nandroid backup, of course? Try the tools on dr.ketan's signature.
As a last resort, you can try Kies to return to official, unrooted, stock Sammy-blessed state. :cyclops:
And start flashing again, afterwards!

I actually forgot to create a nand backup before messing with the flashing. UGH.
I guess being spoonfed as a previous iOS user has it's drawbacks.
Time to play with everything now that I have such a clean UI
Glad to know that your phone returned to life.:good:
Remember to make nandroid backups regularly.
Good Luck!
I recommend titanium backup or same other compare to nandroid.
Nandroid push you back to original state while you want to test mods and roms, titanium will be much helpful to restore data on cross roms.

TWRP seems to be working pretty well, but do i have to extract the folder and back it up on my desktop in case of another full wipe?
TWRP restores everything including desktop but remember it will be same as on day you have created nandroid. Subsequently changes won't have in it.

Oh that's cool! So it really just screenshot the entire phone and restores back to when it was made?
Side note, each backup is almost a GB big, won't it eat up a lot of memory on your phone? As such, which options are best to select when using twrp? (eg efs, data, system)
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 2
Efs is just 20mb, needs when you have messed up imei, it is must in my point of view even if you don't want nandroid backup
data is backup of installed applications
System is ROM, which needs to recover device when you have got something wrong.

I made a nandroid backup in CWM when I was on RC1. I'm trying to do a nandroid restore but it keeps failing when it gets to system, so I figured if I go back to RC1, everything should be identical so it should work.
If not, I don't know why the nandroid restore is failing. Any ideas?

Could be a hand full of things.
Corrupt nandroid, different recovery etc
You could always flash stock and try to restore it than.
I've honestly never had that issue not sure if flashing rc1 would change anything because it overwrites the system anyway

[Q] Am I trapped AOSP?

I flashed an AOSP Rom (SuperNexus) on my LGOG. Now when I try to flash a Stock (ZVB) based ROM, my phone reboots every time data connects. I tried Stock Rooted and Lifeless. The ROM's will flash onto my phone, but I can't get any data.
I tried installing LGNPST, but every time I connect my phone and open the LGNPST software I get a message that LG USB/Parallel dongle is not detected. I flashed back to Super Nex and my connection is fine.
And I am re-flashing, not restoring a backup. I ran a backup in TWRP before I flashed Super Nex so that I could get back to my Stock setup, but TWRP can't see anything to restore.
Ugh

This happened to me a couple months ago.
Easy solution:
Go to TWRP -> Wipe -> Advanced -> make sure you wipe all four options data, dalvik, cache, and system.
When you factory reset you only wiped data, dalvik, and cache. You forgot to wipe system, then you can go back to flashing normally.
Dont worry this wont wipe your SDcard.
Well I ****ed up. I formatted the data partition. I am now hard bricked. No recovery, no boot, nothing. glad I purchased that insurance.

Are you actually hard bricked because at this point normally I'm pretty sure you could just LGNPST back to stock? I mean I've wiped everything before to rule out dirty flashing related bugs on ROMs and I don't think TWRP actually touches any of the really critical low-level files.

I had the same issue with LGNPST. The solution is very simple. Uninstall LGNPDT completely from your computer. Go into start-computer-c drive and delete folders labeled LG electronics off of there and inside program files. Then reinstall LGNPST but right click the .exe file and select install as administrator. This will solve your issue and flash back to stock. Make sure you follow the normal process of selecting the .dll and .bin files.
Let me know if this helped.

TWRP recovery to a replacement phone--what should I restore?

Ok, so I had to get a replacement Note 4 due to camera hardware issues. I made a TWRP backup of my original phone, now I want to restore things on my new phone. My question is what should I restore? The things I backed was everything I could:
Boot
Recovery
System
Data
Cache
EFS
Modem
Should I restore everything? I get the feeling that I shouldn't try to restore EFS for some reason, but I am not sure. Anything I definitely should not restore on the new device? Thanks

Recovery, system (if same fw version), data, modem. All should don't give you any trouble. Efs I Dont know but think it could be device specific but now sure. I wouldnt do that one myself. Boot may have some device specifics in it as well that makes me nervous. But someone with the proper knowledge might chime in past what my comfort limits are.
