So is there an APK of the stock Android Messaging app that was on the GNEX that I can put on the HTC One?
The one thats on the HTC one does not handle MMS group messages right. Every time someone send a message back in the group conversation and I click on the notification it takes me to just my texts with that one person. Not to the group text. Its the last thing I haven't figured out how to fix on the HTC One.
Or is there a setting I'm missing somewhere that resolves this? Or a 3rd party messaging app that works better? I've tried a few but none seem to get this right.
This is a problem with Android in general. Go SMS pro handles group messages. There is an option for it in settings.

Just FYI, some Android phones DO handle group messages.

Yea, I was hoping it was the app that was having the issues as my GNEX didn't have issues with group messages that I remember. I'll have to look into SMS Pro. Thanks
Try 8sms from the Play Store

Interpret that your app orwho's ever. Is awesome. What I hate it's the 4.2.2 texting setup om my htc. It don't count messages like if I sent a 400 character text on my wife htc one stock app N it just sends an any order an Don tell you if it's the 1st text or 3rd text. I was saying I hope they would use this idea on there 4.3. In less I overlook a option to fix my texting issue. Anyways iI uninstalled all stock message an turn on stand alone support. It is 3x big app but Nbd... What's Emoji? If you don't mind or if you do I can Google it

Emojis are the little picture characters that iPhones have native to their keyboard. Android JB has viewable Emoji support I believe.
Are you posting from a phone or is English not your primary language? Sorry, just wondering.

I don't do much group messaging so you'll have to test out how it works on there. The app is CyanogenMod official, so it should be top notch.

I did 8sms for a while, but then it wasn't showing some picture messages or then not showing my texts (It would just show a small square box in the text field.. going to wait a bit until it has a few more updates.
my favorite so far has been sliding messaging pro. Just got a big update recently as well.
Handles group messages pretty well so far from my testing. At first I was pissed because I wanted to try the app out but then was on a 20 minute phone call and missed the return window (so basically I never got to 'try' it out). I figured whatever, I'll just use it now that I bought it, and it's really amazing
You can try TEXTRA SMS as well. Very simple, lightweight sms/mms that handles group messaging very well. Fast too. Not a lot of fluff.

Emoji does not work
I have not tested it yet with people who DO have go sms pro,
but, when I send emoji to people who DON'T have go sms pro, they do not see the emoji I attach in the message, only the regular smileys
Edit: I just read again the market description of the emoji plugin. and indeed it is stated very clearly that the recipient should have go sms pro and the emoji plugin.
In my opinion this is totally useless.
One has to convince all of his contacts to install an app before one can use it properly
That's not the right way to implement new stuff.
Imagine you could not talk to someone unless he had your dialer application....
ridiculous

So you suggest they change the SMS-standard to implement their own type of smileys? Remember that SMS is only text, and it is the SMS-app reading the SMS that translates the text 'colon-paranthesis' to an image of a smiley-face.

Whatever makes you happy
Coming from the iPhone, my friends and I used to have group SMS conversations and all the messages would be received and managed in a single group thread. On the GN, every single response that I receive is split into separate threads for each person. Is there any way to get normal group texting or did I lose this feature when I made the switch to Android?
unfortunately i think you might have lost that feature with the switch to android. you would need to use a 3rd party app (some of which would require your iphone/BB-touting friends to also use a 3rd party app)... not very convenient at all .
there is a "Verizon Messages" app which you might see mentioned in a few of the links below. here are some other convos i stumbled across that confirm the issue and might give you some tips:
beta version of Handcent that some people seem to have success with
Thread confirming issue
Another forum thread with some other people's findings
Issue raised with Google
hope this helps, good luck!
Damn that sucks. Without this basic feature I'm going to be forced to switch back to my iPhone 4S. Love the Galaxy Nexus but group chatting is one of my primary mobile uses. I really hope Google addresses this in the near future.
I would at least try all the top SMS apps on the market. Perhaps one of those functions the way you want.
I tried both GoSMS and Handcent and both apps were truly dreadful compared to the stock SMS app.
Just out of curiosity, is there any way to fix this if I were to root?! Really don't want to switch back to the iPhone 4S but this problem is becoming a monster issue for me! Thanks.

Don't think so. Just a limitation.
This issue isn't enough to get me to switch back to an iPhone, but yeah, it's kinda annoying.
If you are on Verizon, the aforementioned Verizon Messages app works great, seamless. The others kinda suck.
Thanks. Unfortunately I have the unlocked version and I'm using it with AT&T.
You can use Google+ Messenger. You start a conversation and you can add friends from your cirlces and/or friends phone numbers or any phone Number.. I'm surprized nobody brought this up sooner!
Can you explain how this would work for people who have iPhone's without Google+? Would they get a regular text message? If so, what number would it come from? This might be a decent solution.

It won't, maybe if they use Google+, but it won't replace the standard SMS. The new Handcent 4.x update can handle Group MMS messages, personally I just got used to the Stock messaging app so I stick with that (Even though it can't handle Group Messaging).
Hope this helps...

What a foolish quote. First of all, it doesn't work with Google+...I tried this with a few other people and it did not work unless they had the Google+ app installed. Also, there is nothing wrong with different people having different priorities. Clearly your priority is on widgets and customization while mine is on communication...to each their own. I'm hoping the group SMS issue will be addressed soon being that almost all other smartphones have this capability.
The other thing that is frustrating me after switching to the GN is the way the email apps render HTML emails. On iOS it puts the full page on the screen and you zoom into the parts you want to read. On the GN the email doesn't fit to the screen so you need to scroll all over the place to read it. Hope this is fixed as well.
GoSMS just added this feature. I was literally trying everything to get this to work then GO updates the SMS app and it works great. Every reply all gets sent back to the group thread and I can send out of it just fine. Loving it.
I have always hated group SMS on Android. This is a huge turn off for people that come from iOS. Is there any way to have our group text messaging behave the way it does on iOS? It just makes more sense. You text a group, you should get replies from the group and be able to reply TO the group instead of individual messages you have to reply to individually..

FYI I just tried both of these and none of them can do Group SMS for incoming. They send out the SMS, but when users reply it receives them individually. Also i notice that some of these apps when they sent out the sms you actually see it send out one sms at a time and that might be the root of the problem. Right now i have been able to do true Group SMS via Facebook Messeger app as it allows for you to send SMS messages for some android phones such as my HTC One X, S3 etc. I just don't like the interface and it's slow.
Does anyone have any other solution for this? A real working solution? Group SMS means when you send out a group SMS and the recipients respond you get all the messages in one thread not individual threads. Thanks in advance.

not even with thread group messaging in handcent?
it seemed to work for me when i tested it (i dislike that feature, my bud with the iphone hates it. so m ight be missing something)
Is there a Group MMS feature in the stock messaging app where all the replies are kept in one thread?
I don't think there's native support for that at the moment. I composed one text and sent it to three recipients at once. On my screen it showed a thread with all three individuals, but on their phones, they received the text as if it was only addressed to them, and if they reply, I'm the only one that gets that reply text. I saw on the FreeGS3 rom that there's support for a "reply to all" feature which sounds more like what you're looking for.
That's too bad. I know GO SMS has it but I really like the look of this stock messaging app.

Mulitiple Replies???
I sent a joke text out earlier to 4 people. Now when they reply back, I get a text from each of them individually. But two of the people have iPhones. So when they reply, they go to everyone that was on the message I sent. I've noticed that it happens with BlackBerry's too. So is this a Android issue or other phone issues?
I'm also interested in having all the replies in one thread with the person's name next to it.
Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure Group Messaging was Apple's idea. I'm not a big fan of it personally, but I work and deal with a lot of iPhone people so I've resorted to GO SMS Pro for that feature. They had a few quirks at the beginning, but got them sorted out.
And to those asking, it does keep them all in a single thread, with the person's name above what they wrote, at least, in the style I have mine set up in.
The one thing I have noticed is that any thread where you had a convo going with the originating person, shows up right next to the group message as well. You can also click at the top and see who the message was all sent to if someone sends you a group SMS. If they're in your contacts, it shows their name, which is a nice bonus. If not, just the number.
As for the comment about the FreeGSIII 'reply all' feature, it's not the same thing. I thought that dev had it pegged, but he said it was something else.
EDIT: I don't know if they will all appear in one thread if not everyone else is using an iPhone. If one person responds using Android and not using the feature in GO SMS Pro (or something similar) I would assume their reply would only go back to the person who sent the initial message. Hopefully that all made sense...

I believe that is user specific as I've had the option to set it this way, or sending them to each person, not in a group like you state. I liked to keep things in order, so I would always choose to send it to each person as it does it anyway, just depends on how you want it displayed on your phone.
Has anyone else been experiencing issues with receiving MMS's when they were sent to a group? For example, if someone sends me a picture, with a few other people on the message, I won't get the message. The message will come through and just say "downloading" and I'll never get the picture.
When I get replies then, they are all individual texts instead of embedded in a group.
Thanks for any advice!
That's because androids stock messenger doesn't support group texting. You can send a group text but replies will always come back in individual threads...sorry

Use GoSMS Pro, It's free on the market, and you can make it run in "Lite" mode, It will fully support iPhone Group texting. If you want to reply in the same group, Go to settings, Tap advanced at the top then Send settings > Check the box that says Group MMS chat.
If you want to go into "Lite" Mode, go into the settings and change the running mode. It will still allow you to receive and send group MMS as well as have custom themes. It is really fast in "Lite" mode.

I use group texting everyday. Every single one of my friends have the iphone and I've used Hancent for years, but it doesn't work well with group texting. Event when I selected Group messaging in Handcent, i would receive each message in each persons thread, not the group thread. My friends with the iPhones said that my messages wouldn't ever appear in the group thread, but showed up in my thread instead. So i just switched to GoSMS Pro and so far everything has been working like a charm. Follow the instructions that Tirionfive wrote and you will not have any issues. Group texting is the $hit, and I really wish that Google integrated it into the stock messaging app. Oh well it will likely be in Key Lime Pie (unless Crapple already patented it already).
I've been using Go SMS Pro for the last few days and it is absolutely great! Not sure I'll ever go back to stock text messaging
