Moved to Themes, Applications and Software forum.
Im guessing by screensaver you mean screen turns off/dims?
Which ROM are you using and what screensaver app are you running?

yes i mean the dim/ blank screen
not sure about the rom but the phone is box standard no other apps have been put on it apart from this work application
screen is normally on, dims after few seconds manbe 1 minute, then goes blank (or like a sleep mode) however this sleep mode is where the problems start
thanks guys any help will be appreciated.

huh?? this thread doesnt say "htc touch hd" ?
how bout you provide a VALUABLE reply instead of this nonsense.
anyone got any update on this? i believe tomtom stops working also when this screen saver kicks in please help me out
as it is draining my battery life
How do your messages come through? Are they via sms? If so you can use an app called HD Tweak to wake device on new message. As for TT, perhaos invest in a car charger and then you don't have to worry about the battery.

I know this is not much of a solution but if you go to settings tab -- all settings (bottom left corner) and then in the middle tab (cant remember the name) --- power.
in here, go to the 3rd (last tab) and there you can disable the screen dimming and and sleep mode (first 2 options) by unchecking them
I am also using TomTom in the car at the moment and yes it does drain the battery...i think that asides from getting a car charger (they're cheap - just look for a in-car USB charger and use your USB cable), the best alternative is to let the screen dim, but NOT switch off. So let your screen turn off its backlight, and that should extend your battery life considerably.
Also, maybe try some of the solutions listed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483034
(i got that from a forum-wide search)
Good luck
ok guys bit more info
not worried about tomtom working whilst screen off that was just a example i gave, however my chaeffer work software does not ring/alert me when the screen is locked
now the software works via gprs and log's into my office server when they get the booking it gets logged into there system and routinly passed down to the drivers
i have a car charger but the problem is i am not in the car all the time, or near a mains supply only go to the car when booking come through
now is this a programming issue by the company i work for? if so, what could be done to correct this?
i am looking at some after market apps play around with them and see how i get on.
thanks you for all your help so far
I'm having issues with my Touch Pro 2. Before I go to bed, I usually turn the screen off (TP2 is still powered on) and plug in the wall charger. In the morning when the phone is fully charged, I can't seem to wake the phone up. The screen either stays black or eventually turns on but is "frozen". Anyone else having this issue? Could my storage card (A-Data 8GB Class 6) be the cause? I'm running the stock T-Mobile Windows Mobile 6.5 rom.
Blacked Out Phone
I am having the same issue, please let me know if you figure it out!
Thanks

I just switched out my SIM card for a new one. I'll let you know if the problem persists.
Seems to be working fine so far with the new SIM card. The REAL test will be when I charge my phone all night and I try and wake it up in the morning. I hope everything goes well.....
After charging my TP2 all night while in standby mode, I can confirm that the issue has gone away thanks to my new SIM card.
I get this too. I've done some searches in the past and there are other people with thread on the same issue. I've stopped charging mine overnight altogether as it locks up and then I don;t get critical sms alerts. I only ever charge it via usb on my pc during the day now.
If you find a fix, please post it here. A lot of other people including me would be grateful.

Try and replace your SIM card. That SHOULD work.
Having an issue with my htc desire (it has a stock desire rom)
Basically when my phone goes to sleep the screen remains blank and I cannot seem to get the screen active
when I try to wake up the device as per norm the buttons light up however the screen remains blank..
the phone still seems functional (volume works, etc) however it does not respond to being 'woken up'
I have have done all sorts to try and resolve the problem, this includes checking sd card for errors, resetting phone.
Im a loss to what could be causing this, the phone is a right pain to use now, I go on a call and then screen dims but never recovers, however can still continue with the call.
I have to pull out the battery and restart the phone to have the screen 'wake'
I have looked at these threads of people with similar issues but no one has put up a solution.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980022
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892100
Tried testing the sd card for errors still have the problem.
Different SD card still have the problem
I tested it with the sd card removed and still have the same problem.
In airplane mode I still have the problem
With different sim I still have the problem
Tried two new roms, still have the problem (previous to this I had not changed roms in months).
Any ideas? How did other people fix this?
Strangely though after leaving it overnight it woke once the first time this morning. Now back to not waking.
Please help
hi,
another desire owner wrote the same issue on the QA forum...

at first sight seems to be a sd card issue... also have a look on sdfix thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010807
happens to me but just once, i just pull out the battery.
looking forward about sd card tweeking
hope this help
As I said it happens whether or not there is an SD card in the phone. And with different SD cards so I do not see how it could be an SD card problem.
Fixed it now. I took it apart then put it back together.

I have similar problem here...
Our case is that we can't wake a phone after deep sleep..Touch screen is just not responding. We can see a caller (when somebody is calling) and screen but touch screen is not responding.
After we lock it and unlock it again via Power button, all is just fine...
We caused that by disassembling and assembling the Phone..There was some dust behind digitizer, so we had to clean it...
There must be some strange thing that is not behaving as it should when U proceed
to disassembling and assembling..
So Guys out there...be carefully and think twice before you make decision to disassemble your Desire...

I realize now that problem that you had, has nothing to do with mine, because I have this issue, with or without Sim card..
I have been using an OTG cable (which was not specifically purchased for the N7 - I had one from another device) and Stickmount to mount an SD card reader w/ SD card loaded with videos to view. This, generally, has been working fine, but yesterday I encountered a situation where, while trying to watch something, I was continually interrupted for several minutes at a time. Of course the N7 went into sleep. When I woke it up, I noticed that the SD reader (which has a power./activity light on it) did not get repowered. To restore it I had to unmount it, pull the OTG cable, then reconnect it.
While not THAT big of a hassle, since I was continually getting interrupted yesterday, I was wondering if this is normal behavior for N7/OTG/Stickmout.
Ok, this is a bit strange. I replaced all the hardware components (excepting the N7 itself, of course) -- new OTG cable, new portable SDHX/SDHX Micro reader and the card and it is doing the same thing. The reader has a power light on it, that remains on when it is in use. When the N7 times out (I have it set for 2 minutes), the light on the reader extinguishes as well. When I wake up the N7, the power light on the reader does NOT come back on. Stickmount reports it is still mounted and I can traverse the tree to get to it with a file manager. However, when I try to access anything on the card, it errors out.
I repeated the test with a standard USB drive (a rather small one that would not do for what I am trying to accomplish -- media storage/play to save on space on the internal "SD" card). When the N7 timed out, the light on this unit remained on. I was able to wake the unit and continue on accessing the flash drive without issue.
What the heck is the difference between a portable reader with an SD card in it and a flash drive. And, is there anyway to get the reader to behave like the flash drive.
If anyone has any insights into this, I would appreciate it!

At the point where the light does not come on, I would test removing and replacing the media in the reader. Curious if it then works.

Nope, light doesn't come on, card is not readable. Thanks for the suggestion, though...

Interesting. This sounds like the software loading the drivers for the reader are not working. Each version (over the years) of Linux has different ways to mount USB. I am not sure which method Android uses, so I am not much help. Probably someone on XDA knows the details if they will contribute. Or, you might get support from one of the popular Android OTG media sharing app makers to help explain it.
Have you tried a powered (and/or) non powered USB hub in the middle? Curious if your results would be the same.
Unfortunately I don't have one. I NEED to get one, but not yet.
Yea, I noticed the same problem when I was using android vlc to play videos from OTG mounted stick. If I paused and went away for a while, it couldn't resume when I came back. MXPlayer works better, but only because you can start playing the same video again and it will ask if it should resume where it left off, so at least there is a way to get back to where you were after remounting the stick.
If I copy the video file to the local /sdcard storage, none of these problem with sleep crop up, so it is definitely OTG that goes funny in the head.
Hi all,
I own the p5200 (Tab3 10.1) for a few weeks.
Recently I noticed that the device sometimes randomly shuts down by itself, and I have to power it on again by myself.
It mostly happens when I don't use it (and than come back to use it and it's dead) - but it also happened once when I used it.
Did any of you guys experience that weird behavior ?
I don't believe it is a hardware defect, rather then a software/kernel issue (maybe even the previous generation's SOD problem?)
Appreciate any help!
Matan.

The problem seems to be getting worse, now it happens a few times a day,
I read some and thought it may have to do with the Sleep of Death.
If anyone knows anything about it I would be more than happy to know,
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply,
I'm running stock unrooted/modified XXUBMI5 firmware.
Hi,
same/similar problem on my P5200/10", stock not rooted firmware 4.2.2 - after cca a month of using random switch-off started, after another few weeks it was more and more frequent and the tab was usable only very hardly. my quess was some HW error like bad battery concact, as it happened mostly during tab movement/shaking/turn arounds etc.
Sent back to vendor to reclaim, back after a month with factory reset and message "problem not reproducible". and really, it was not happening(!)
Another week or two has passed since then - and random switch offs are again back, now also when there is no movement (i.e. overnigth). I am planning to try to save some logs to find why it happens (some bad application?) or at least to prove to vendor it really happens. then I will try also another factory reset (however, I do not like to setup it again and again and backup/restore might not work, if it is caused by some app ).
When this happened to me on a previous device, it turned out to be SD card related. The SD card would unmount and that would apparently freeze my tab, usually shutting it down. Then again I was using a swapfile and had most of my apps installed to the SD card. But I figured I'd mention.

Hi,
Same here - no SD card involved.
I can update that "somehow" those random shutdowns did not occur in the past few days (where before it happened a few good times a day)
I can also say that when the device is connected to a charger no shutdowns whatsoever.
Also, in the past few days battery is draining much faster than before.
Personally I think it is the battery, October's bad battery batch of the S4/S3 reminded me that this could be the issue here as well.
Tried to look online for a battery replacement to buy, but without any luck so far.
alfi_ , if you have any new info I would very much like to know
Thanks!

Hi,
so far nothing special - as it does not happen while on charger, also log via USB is useless. and the log via TCP is empty.
what I have seen in discussions / heard from more experienced people, incl. the branded service partner, it can be often caused by some additional application (for me its hard to believe. and if the same happens to PC computer, it will definitely be a reason to return the device). but anyway I would suggest you to make a backup and try the factory reset too. then test it for some time without any new installed application.
for my one it looks little better after reset (weird behaviour), but it still randomly shuts down. then I am going to visit a service center personally to present there the behaviour, but it may take some time..
Hi,
the problem was reproducible also in the service center with factory setting without any other application installed, so after a month the tab is back with replaced mainboard (part gh82-07643a) - and so far no problem. hopefully it will not repeat anymore
I've been experimenting the same issue. Sm t311, stock unrooted rom.
It happens when the device is sleeping, it just fails to come back.
I've seen it happen with and without sd card, with and without power cord attached. It doesn't seem to be related with the sleeping timespan either.
Enviado desde mi SM-T311 mediante Tapatalk
one, maybe useful info when this happens, which I was not aware of - androids v4.1 and newer have the possibility to boot into "safe mode", where all additional installed applications are disabled. so before you try factory reset and reinstall/reconfigure all applications, you can try also this. (I am wondering this option was not told me by the service). on tab 3 10" you can reach it while booting and the logo is shown, press and hold both volume keys.

Here is the original post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593766
After troubleshooting this issue and discarding possible causes such as charching problem, smart cover side effect, defective sd, etc etc, I had given up on my T311 and decided to start experimenting with some custom roms (after all, it's painless to brick a defective tablet). Somehow, after flashing FastDream the issue disappeared.
It has run for 27 hrs straight without turning itself off.

Hi, I have problem with my Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 gt p 5200.
Tablet without noticeable reason began randomly shut down by itself.
Sometimes in an hour goes off 5-6 times, and sometimes working 5-6 hours without turning off.
Tablet can not be sent to the service because it was purchased abroad.
On it is the original untouched Android 4.2.2.
I tried a factory reset and re-flash with the latest android from sammobile.com , but it didn't help.
Does anyone has a similar problem or solution.
Thanks in advance
