Hello everyone, hope I don't get flamed too bad. I am looking for a preferred way to root, and maybe some custom ROM suggestions. Could anyone possibly lead me in the right direction?

i just wrote a pretty straightforward guide. check it out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514434
Since you're looking to flash ROMs
2.3.5
you can do the superoneclick and dl rom manager and flash a the cwm recovery and then flash a rom
OR
2.3.5/2.3.6
Use ODIN
flash RECOVERY
flash ROM
good luck

I am familiar with the root process, just hear about a lot of bricks with Odin. I'm skeptical, but will try this.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Odin is pretty safe really, just make sure you have atleast half charged battery, you dont want your phone dying or cord coming out or batteryfalling out during the process thou

I had a hard time at first, odin kept giving me the "incorrect file type" or some such. Make sure you're flashing a "pda" and not "phone." Also make sure you're using the tar.md5 file as is. This was strange to me coming from the nexus one.
Just a head's up, DO NOT flash roms for the i9100, that's how I hard bricked my "g-sII."

i HAD the same problem with my laptop, but used my other HOME PC and it worked fine.
try saving it on your "desktop" so you have easy access to the Tar. file. just drag and drop when odin begins (or asks for it) did this twice in one day with mine and my wifes phones !

My apologies ahead of time if this topics been touch on already, but theres a hidden diagnostic mode on the sgs3. You go into the phone app and dial *#0*# and you'll get this cool diagnostic tool to help ensure you device is running normal. I've returned 2 sgs3's due to faulty sub key touch buttons and dead pixels using this and I just thought I'd share.

Touch option is pretty cool, it fills the screen with all these boxes and you follow them all around your screen with your finger to detect any non responsive areas of your screen. Dead zones you can say. My 1st s3 failed that test.

Yeah like I said don't depend on what your seeing there. The lowest is 200 ie when your phone is idle its really at 200..click on an app it will jump to 800. The number you see in the settings is broken and not accurate. If you get a CPU monitor from play store you will see that its really "live" its like a broken clock in the settings. Your phone is not always running 1500. Its running lowest 200 up to 1500 depending on what your doing like normal. Does that make sense??

Once the call audio issue is sorted (can't have the boss calling and not be able to talk to him) i'll be all over this. Been waiting since I decided this phone was going to be my next phone to see working AOSP roms..

Camera

Here is the camera fix for all aosp ROMs... Should be compatible with 4.3 also when it comes out....
DL link: http://db.tt/P9uBiLA2
Second DL link:
http://rapidgator.net/file/9a14646aa0b62fda63f489a7236031fb/google_camera.zip.html
To install : once downloaded reboot into recovery... - I'm using twrp 2.6
Next flash zip right over ROM...
Once installed go to the advanced tab and click fix permissions...
Once that's done reboot back to you're ROM as normal..
Go to camera and mess around with it do what ever u like...
Once u leave the camera and go back the focus ring doesn't auto focus...
Easy fix just hold that big blue button in the middle and it will focus...
Then just release the snap button when u ready for it to snap ya picture....
That's it u know got all options fully working with 13mp,photosphere,panoramic, HDR, and what ever else I'm for getting...
All I ask is u say ty and IDC if u use it in ya ROM just please give shout to me for my hard work on this....
Before u ask no the problem isn't my camera y the auto focus messes up after u leave ... Its a known bug with android itself...
Edit:8-17-13. Camera appears to be fixed ... heres the new link ... https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B1DGsUzId7AHZ3c0QXhFMVp4Skk/edit

Flashing this will give you two cameras and galleries. But regardless, it still doesn't fix the autofocus. >_<
In order for the auto focus to work once u leave the camera and go back in u just hold the blue snap button. It will then focus and u release the button to take ya pic....
The auto focus is a known android problem..its not the camera its self or the hardware....their are other devices that have the same issue as us when it cones to auto focus....
The focus problem seems to b a hit and miss issue ...
