I have a Kindle Fire 1 with Software Version is 10.4.6_user_4620220 and ADB not working with this version.
How to downgrade Software Version 10.4.6 to 6.3.2.

First thing I want to mention, you don't downgrade from a 10.x.x os to a 6.x.x os, because the 10.x.x os is a kf2 os, and the 6.x.x os is a kf1 os, so all you would succeed in doing is bricking the device. Second thing, based on what you just said, you don't have a kf1, you have a kf2. So what would you like to do? Also what do you mean adb isn't working, if USB debugging is enabled, then you should have a device in the task manager show up, it may have an exclamation, if so use the drivers in my signature to update the drivers and adb should work.

I'm working on a research assignment for school and I'm a little stuck.
I know it's possible to install a new bootloader on the Amazon Kindle fire.
I would like to do more than that.
I want to install a new or change the settings of the Linux kernel on the Kindle Fire. Why?
I want use the tablet for my own purposes. These purposes mean that I have to control all ports and memory to restrict access.
Can this be done, theoretically?
Bootloaders e.g FFF can be loaded to the boot partition seperatly. The same can be done with recovery partitions and the kernel.

I want nothing else on the Kindle Fire other than my bootloader and programs.

You can write FireFireFire or something similar to the boot partition. To run your programs tough you will some version of the Android OS on the device.

Long time lurker here as I first found this forum when I rooted my HP Touchpad to run Android. I have a Kindle Fire 1st Gen and would like dual boot. Here is the order I would like:
1. Normal Boot = Kindle Stock OS
2. Alt Boot = Android 4.2.2
I understand that dual boot is possible and that currently the normal boot currently boots into the Android OS by default. I read here that this order can be changed by modifying the source code of FireFireFire however I am unsure how to do this. I am comfortable using hex editors and modifying Linux and Windows scripts but I am not a coder. I am also comfortable using TWRP and flashing ROMS as I have done this with the Kindle and my HP Touchpad. Could anyone here point me in the right direction to help me get the Kindle Fire to boot in this order?

Well I finally figured it out. If anyone else is interested I have attached a write up of the steps I took to do this.
NOTE: I am posting this to people who have some level of knowledge on flashing alternate ROMS and rooting their device. I take no responsibility if you brick your device. These steps worked for me but your outcome could be different:

can anyone clarify that it is indeed possible to dual boot a Kindle Fire HD 7 between the kindle OS and a regular android rom ? I'm coming across conflicting info and having trouble finding a starting point i guess. Is Kindle Fire OS Modaco a stock kindle OS with all Parental features? Thanks

I tried to root my kindle a few weeks back and got a bit confused. I can't tell If I have rooted my kindle succesfully.
Installed ADB (Windows states that driver is already installed)
Try to update device drivers, select kindle but no device drivers are avaliable to install.
I'm just really confused. I just want to learn how to root a kindle, install a custom ROM then be able to restore it to stock if I don't like it.

I was trying to install CM 12.1 to my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and I believe it is bricked. I feel as if there is an easy fix but I have been trying for 2 month to no avail. So I finally decided to make an account to try to fix it. So I was using a tutorial to root my Kindle Fire, (I'm a new user so I can't post outside links yet) and everything was going fine until it would only boot into the blue Kindle Fire logo. After about a month I figured out that it was just my terrible, broken volume buttons, and I eventually booted my device into TWRP. From there, I tried to add the CM 12.1 to the Kindle, but it wouldn't recognize my device so I couldn't get into the device to add the files. So I just backed up my OS, and tried to boot into my recovery. I read somewhere that it is a big no-no. Who knows? Anyways, it booted into a normal Kindle Fire logo, just stuck. I did get my device into fastboot, but it won't recognize the device. Every time I try to use any recovery tool, KFHD SRT in specific, it just says no device found. I've been messing with drivers for ages. I've tried using the Amazon driver installer, tried using Android_winusb.inf (I don't even know if I was supposed to do that) and somehow every time I'd uninstall the driver, it would re-install as Android ADB Interface, and wouldn't be recognized by anything. Not ADB, or any recovery. Any help please? Sorry if this was posted in the wrong section, but please, someone just help me get my device running in CM 12.1 or any CM.
Hello all, had a rooted fire tv 1 with the clockwork recovery. I downloaded the pre-rooted firmware 5.2.6.0 (bueller-5.6.2.0-root.zip) and upgraded the fire tv using the clockwork recovery. Everything worked fine and the fire tv booted up with the new firmware. I then went to device and restart fire tv. The fire tv turned off, but then wouldn't turn on. Now when I connect power to it, the white led doesn't show up, and I'm not able to connect to it through adb. Is there something in the latest firmware that bricks the fire tv? Any help is appreciated.
Based on the mention of "clockwork recovery", sounds as if an upgrade was attempted from a FireOS 3 ROM. A different recovery is required for FireOS 5 based ROMs.

Is your bootloader fully unlocked? If not, SOL from what I understand. If unsure, time to level up.
Amazon FireTV devices tend to work a bit differently with ROMS and recoveries compared to typical android devices. It is advised to keep current on that site's ROM articles to help avoid future pitfalls.
The firmware that was on the fire tv before I did the upgrade was 51.1.4.1. This was a pre-rooted firmware with the bootloader fully unlocked. When the fire tv booted up, I had R-boxes screen come up with the choices to go to recovery or go to bootloader. I chose recovery and through ADB I copied the 5.2.6.0 pre-rooted rom to the fire tv and then upgraded it through the clockwork recovery console. I didn't upgrade to the to the twrp tool.
So what I'm hearing is that the Fire Tv is bricked and there's no way to recover? What's weird is that once the new rom was installed, the fire tv rebooted and everything worked, it was only after I went to the fire tv settings menu, device and restart fire tv that it never came back.

I recall reading multiple posts about different people with the same outcome who skipped both the last FireOS 3 version upgrade and the twrp flash. If the box no longer allows connection via adb, even a roundabout recovery is not possible, from what I understand.
