What an interesting find! I have never heard of that tool before. assuming that its exploit tool works on mtd devices it may be able to give you root access but I'm not sure about recovery or flashing kernels. Give it a go though and see what happens also, if you let me know which guide you were trying to follow first I can go on the hunt for you and find the required downloads.

I'll try first the HTC quick root and report back here if it worked or not. So none of you guys here gained root using the tool? I guess it's because the wildfire is older than this tool? and all of you have successfully rooted by using unrevoked and/or revolutionary before this tool arrived..

You can try to Root the phone with the Visionary APK, but it just gives a half-root, not a full root. Clockwork and AmonRa will not change the Recovery without S-OFF.
Until someone figures out how to set S-ON to S-OFF, we cannot install any ROMs.
Normally when you flash a DESIRE Z HBOOT ON A g2 THE PHONES DOENT COME ON AND IS NORMALLY AT THE HTC LOGO WHICH IS NORMAL (I KNOW) MY QUESTION IS WHY IS MY PHONE NOT SATYING ON THE G2 LOGO BUT RATHER BOOTING INTO MY PREVIOUS ROM BEFORING UPDATING THE HBOOT TO THE DESIRE Z'S?
Didn't the wiki guide have two sections during the root process? One to setup DZ hboot and another for regular if you didn't want to do it at that time? Perhaps you followed the DZ hboot setup during rooting thinking it was part of the normal process?
Or maybe I'm just nuts. It was a long time ago when I did mine.
I followed the link on the virtous site

If it was to load a sense based ROM then I'd assume that loading the DZ hboot was part of the tutorial. It is required to run sense ROMs.

Any1 no where I can download the dz hboot so I can flash sense Roms? I've tried the virtuous site and the thread here, neither one working.

That link for the DZ Hboot isn't going to work because it's to my Dropbox account and I've deleted the file... I don't use DB for long term storage. If anyone needs it and can't find it elsewhere you can PM me. And if you want to share it please link to your own hosting service.

I sent Ptaylor09 the file a couple days ago and I'll make sure I send it to bombaider in a bit. If you want, I can send you a Dropbox invite which will afford us both additional storage space. Then you can easily share files thru your public folder. Just PM me with your email if you're interested.

How to root Bell HTC Desire Z?
Hey, I tried to root my gf's bell desire z with no luck. I tried the visionary method and it just hangs at the root screen for ever and doesn't root it. Anyone know of the preferable way to root bell desire z?

You're NOT going to want to use Visionary... it's outdated and when you use it you run the risk of bricking her device. Should be stickies to this effect in several places. The best resource for rooting is going to be found here under "Rooting the Vision (G2/DZ)".

I used the visionary method when rooting and it worked but it will not work if ur G2 is OTA updated..in that case u need to downgrade than try visionary....I do not recomend you use visionary but rather the CM wiki rooting using gfree its much safer and less chances that ull brick ur phone

They are separate... SIM-unlock, hence the name, allows you to use different carrier's SIM cards... if you followed the wiki thoroughly to root with gfree, you'll have SIM-unlock... otherwise, no those "one-click" methods do not unlock your SIM.

Hello Am thinking on Rooting my one x, but not sure if I should just yet. I had a desire before this phone witch I rooted and was easy enough to un-root so I could send it back to o2 for repair when speaker broke.
Now If I root my One x and something happens where I need to send back for repair can you easy un-root?
Is the only method to rooting with HTCdev? we still dont have alpharev root yet?
Thanks

S-off would be great seems that little detail makes the world of difference in rooting. I upgraded from the HTC vivid and don't think it as an s-off method yet either and it's been out a while someone correct me if I am wrong.

I Double checked with HTC ITALY and If I send my phone rooted etc then I will not pass through warranty.. soo I need to restore my DHD back to "stock" with root / radio / eng and all stuff back to original settings (and normal rom again).
From what I gathered my steps would be:
1. flash using the HTC program the original rom from their website
2. use visionary to reroot my phone?
3. One click Radio S-OFF tool to reverse that setting
But I'm kind of getting lost on the actual "steps" or sequence, and I'm worried I might brick my phone, could some one give me an updated guide, or just steps to do so I can do this correctly?
I'm sending it in because the home/menu buttons are broken (they lost all their touch sensibility, even under safe mode so its hw and not software).. ><
(i'm running s-off eng-off + Android Revolution HD 6.3.3 right now)
Thank you for your time.
Running the right RUU might do it.

Just got my dhd from the warranty center yesterday.
I've had a eng s-off, root and unofficial rom (last - blackout ics).
Root and s-off have been obtained with a AAHK tool - so were obtaind and s-on + stock rom.

I've tried it.
I've sent my phone to the warranty center twice - using AAHK to get stock rom and s-on before it - no problem, the phone was repaired.
All u have to do is to read the instructions first, the process of getting stock & s-on is quite simple - u need to choose a ruu, then choose a CID (if u are going to get s-on) and also confirm u want to get s-on later. That's it.

Easy Ace Root Tool.
I don't have my DHD fully rooted, but anyway.
First you have to unlock your bootloader, find instructions on htcdev.com for it. Then you can flash a stock rom with SU acces, so you'll be rooted. But I recommend you to S-OFF the DHD also, I myself didn't figure out how to do it yet.
Still learning

You can try this tool (aahk2) that is found on a german forum. I got my DHD rooted and S-OFF using this tool only. Just translate the page, read instructions carefully and you are done!

AAHK is retired and unsupported. It also can't download the RUUs it needs anymore because the server was taken down. Use at your own risk.
