I am wondering if a sprint Htc One flashed to verizon would get as good of a signal and a verizon branded One?
Most likely not. Different carriers run on different frequencies.

But if they run off the same tri-band cdma freq. , or for example sprint run 800 and verizon run say 805 ?
Just curious is all.

.... That sounds wrong... Maybe their postpaid is different. From what I understand not only are the frequencies different version must sign off on every phone on their network...
After some research I've seen both sides being positive they are right. One constant though is that Verizon must sign off on every phone in their network. Perhaps their post paid works differently.... Or maybe I'm wrong

I used to run a Sprint HTC Touch Pro on the Verizon network.
I ported it over, but that was years ago.
Both 1x voice and evdo/3g worked fine.
Was a bit trickier to get 3g then it was the 1x but lte certainly won't work on a Sprint on Verizon.
I certainly wouldn't go buy one from Sprint though planning on getting the ESN to get passed by their checks.
That's all I will say about that aspect.

I'm not sure about sprint but the vzw one is global which means ANY network will work, but you won't get better data . I just popped a metro pcs Sim in my DNA and my son is using it with no issues except weak data .

just because a phone is global doesn't mean it will work on all networks. there are too many possible bands to acct for. You would need several radios, which would eat battery.
"Global" phones will work on the most popular bands.
As far as LTE, there is not a chip that has all the US bands.

Until recently I have been with Sprint. And I am located in South Florida.
I am considering going with Simple Mobile as I'm told that T-Mobile has one of the best data speeds in this area. And I want to get a Galaxy S3 as the phone to use with this service.
Can anyone here advise as to whether this would work with Simple Mobile (I called them but they won't say anything only that they don't don't support it - meaning they don't sell it so don't bother them), at what speeds?
I also assume that I must get the T-Mobile version of this phone. That seems quite difficult unless I want to pay a big premium to T-Mobile, who charges much more than say AT&T for their version. So if anyone has any suggestions where I can get one (I would prefer a store, not eBay)?
Thanks
try the xda marketplace
edit: nvm just saw you dont have enough posts.
I read that the Sprint variant of the S3 would work on T-Mobile. You just have to unlock the phone I believe.

I remember negri sells the phone for $599 unlocked. That's the cheapest I've seen for the TMobile version. It's not cheaper by much but it's unlocked and you may save on taxes.

My wife is using it on Simple Mobile. It works great.
Simple Mobile is a Mvno of t-mobile so you don't need to have an unlocked T999. Just change the apn. A's far as speeds. I live in Central Florida and I get the same speeds as t-mobile. I recommended. As far as where to buy the phone. I went to t-mobile and paid $599 for it. Haven't really seen it cheaper.

It does have a sim slot but it's not user accessible.
It's hidden behind the plastic under the battery.
Sprint has taken this approach with all there LTE devices.
The only exception may be the Photon Q since it's touted as being a global device.

If the phone is manufactured for Verizon, like it says verizon on the device, then yes it will. However, if its a T-Mobile or ATT SGS3, then NO it wont work. ATT and T-Mobile SGS3 doesnt have CDMA bands.
If its a sprint SGS3, then yes you can unlock it to work on Verizon. Hope that clarifies things for you.

That is correct there is complete incompatibility between the carriers cdma vs. gsm, CDMA is more frequently used here in the us its a older technology and GSM is more world wide the only phone i really seen that carries both bands are the iphone 4s

I heard the Verizon S3 is supposed to be "Global" however, remember that T-Mobile is special and uses that 1700 mHz aws frequency for 3g therefore global phones wont get 3g on tmobile. Like my Sprint Touch Pro 2 for instance

The only "global" phones that have CDMA bands are Verizon and Sprint phones in the US.

I hate to burst your bubble, but your most definitely wrong. Most Gsm phones for the United States will not work overseas, its just the "name" of the US network. CDMA works transparently with TDMA. If you know anything about APNs and cat radios then you'll be able to figure it out.
I have personally cracked verizon for AT&T and vice versa.

So I can use a UK phone here, but I can't use an unlocked AT&T phone in the UK? That makes no sense. So why do people overseas buy unlocked phones from the US? So they can use them for paperweights?
The difference between GSM here in NA vs the rest of the world is the frequencies used:
Most of NA and SA use 850/1900 while the majority of the planet uses 900/1800. http://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
So if you want to use a phone from the US overseas it must be at least Triband or quadband (more common).
For 3G to work outside the US the phone will also need the 2100 band.
Hope this helps.

Lol, GSM phones can be used worldwide. The only real big place that uses CDMA bands is inside the USA, almost everywhere else is straight GSM. Funny how people buy US phones from overseas, and never once have complained that they don't work. But I'll definitely take your word for it.
But since you supposedly can make an AT&T phone work on Verizon, mind getting me a Galaxy Note that works on Verizon? Unless of course its not possible, which its not.

Yes you can, see this right now you can only get E speed on it. My S3 is actually flashed to Pageplus and I can use it with any GSM carrier here in the US, it's fairly easy to do but like I said you only get "Edge" speed for now. I've use Net10, Simplemobile and StraightTalk, any GSM will work you can also flash to other CDMA like Metro, Cricket or Pageplus.

there are several places saying it is totally possible and ive called verizon trying to see what they would say and the answer i got, at least for out of the country GSM, is that the S3 comes "unlocked already" and you just put in the sim card from whatever out of country carrier you want. apparently that came with the 4.1.2 update to the phone. Now putting with a us carrier might be different but i cant try it because i have my phone flashed to metropcs and i cant just put a metro sim card in it. here a few places i found just by looking on google

U actually can use the Verizon variant s3 on tmobiles network as the s3 is a world phone, now here's where and why most ppl don't, Verizon's network is CDMA as we all know and T-Mobile is a gsm network, so with the s3 being a world phone it can be used on a gsm network but u will never see 4g or even real 3g speeds, Verizon's s3 doesn't have the ability to pick up anything but "E", edge speeds on T-Mobile so is it really worth it? Not in my opinion, if I'm going to blget an s3 I want the full functionality of the devices capabilities, just saying though lol

I can say with some certainty that u will not see 4g using a Verizon variant s3 on T-Mobile network, yes its a world phone and yes u can get it to "work" on T-Mobile but it doesn't have the right kind of internal for gsm 4g network speeds, the most u will see out of it is E or edge, 2g speeds, at least until the towers get updated

I can't say for certainty but as of right now any unlocked world phone from a CDMA based network will only pick up 2g or edge network speeds, it may say 3g or even 4g but believe me unless ur in an area where towers have been remapped u will not see anything above 2g ,maybe base 3g ,only because the radio isn't designed to pick up the gsm frequency, now in the near future cdma will be phased out so u may be able to get 4g in the future but not as of now

So recently I came found pretty beaten up HTC ONE that is Verizon branded. I called and they said its a bad ESN that the previous owner didn't finish the payment. So I was wondering, (yes I looked through various threads and could not get to a final answer) if I use this phone with an AT&T sim, it will work right? Verizon HTC ONES are required to be GSM unlocked and ESN only matters to CDMA carriers and not GSM carriers. Thanks.
Are you asking the XDA community or are you telling us? I'm confused as to what you are getting across here. If you have an AT&T sim or know someone who does then pop the sim in and find out if it works... Did you call Verizon or AT&T and ask if they will activate it?

It is unlocked, so as long as it has the proper bands in it, it should work on AT&T. I'm not sure if it'll work with LTE or just 3G. No idea as I've never tried. I've also read that you have to update APN settings. AT&T may not "officially" let you use, like register it to your account because it wasn't an AT&T phone but if you can pop a SIM card in it you should be able to use it, as long as it works.

AT&T may not "officially" let you use, like register it to your account because it wasn't an AT&T phone but if you can pop a SIM card in it you should be able to use it, as long as it works.

Thanks!
It'll be on 2G which will be fine for voice but you'll be stuck on slow data.

Wrong. You're thinking of T-Mobile
http://www.htc.com/us/smartphones/htc-one/#specs
The VZW variant HTC One includes the following GSM bands: UMTS/HSPA 1900/2100MHz and GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz. These frequencies align with AT&T's services. T-Mobile uses AWS bands (which include 1700mhz) for their HSPA.
I might be wrong.. but all Verizon Phones are Sim-Locked for any USA carrier, you could however use the phone just fine in any out of the country carriers. but like i said i might be wrong which i often am

It's actually the opposite. Verizon 4G phones are SIM unlocked.

Sorry but regardless what those specs state you are wrong. I have a Verizon HTC One in hand as well as at&t and T-Mobile sim cards and my statement is from ACTUAL hands on experience. You will only get 2G.

Don't waste your time. My thoughts were the same when I bought my Verizon One. I planned on using it with a GSM carrier. I had read that its hardware had the necessary bands and they probably are there but I can guarantee that they are at least being blocked somehow by Verizon (data-wise) . I only got 2G and this is from actual hands-on experience with SIM cards from both at&t and T-Mobile. Voice worked great but data was horrible.

They ARE sim unlocked but crafty Verizon somehow managed to block high speed data even though they are SIM unlocked. I'm sure this can be fixed somehow but nobody seems to be that interested in getting this taken care of. Fortunately for me I was able to get a very good deal on my Verizon plan so I kept it for myself and my family is still on my original T Mobile plan.

Have you changed your APN settings? From what I've read, you can't just pop in the SIM and go, you have to change the APN settings for the new network

Yes, believe me I read every single thread there is about this issue when I first got my One. It will work but it will not work on hi speed 3G or 4G. I changed every APN setting possible, tried several different ones, nothing worked.

I've gotten 3G/4G HSPA+ off T-Mobile (1900) on my One. Or are you referring to something else?

Is that a Verizon HTC One? If so please let me know how you did it step by step as I have been wanting to do this for a long time.

Is it a Verizon One? Did you flash anything to turn off the speed cap?
I have a Verizon HTC one and I have a Straight talk ATT Micro sim card. ATT has great coverage in my area. You will only get Edge data. But text and calls will work. Reason is because you need both the 850Mhz and 1900Mhz band for ATT. I believe you will get HSPA on a Tmobile sim if Tmobile has the 1900 band rolled out in your area.
I have a droid DNA and with the ATT Sim card in the DNA I get HSPA speeds but only edge speeds on the One. The DNA has more bands available where as the HTC one from Verizon has the 800/1900 gsm bands. Since most of ATT uses 850Mhz, you can't just have one band and expect 3g/4g you need both.
Also just tried a tmobile straight talk SIM card in my Verizon one and still only get edge. To get better speeds you would have to get a different phone like the DNA, gs4, or an actual att or tmobile phone.

Okay this may seem entirely stupid, but coming from mostly Nexus devices I haven't had to worry about radio bands so please excuse me. If I was to flash the AT&T radio would it enable the bands that are not enabled now or is this controlled by hardware?

If your talking about trying to put an at&t radio on a different carrier phone like tmobile, verizon or sprint, dont do it. It will not change your phone to work on at&t because its the hardware that is different.
You can use a tmobile phone on at&t though I dont think you will get at&t LTE though, I think you will get the HSPA and 3g data.
If this is the case trade your phone off or sell it and get an at&t one if you want at&t you would be better off.
You can also dowload any radio apps from play store.

I'm receiving 4g and if I turn it to LTE only I never lose it. But then I can't make or receive phone calls. As soon as I switch to gsm/wcdma/lte I'm consistently switching between LTE and H+. Is there any way to get it to stock on LTE? Also, the reason I'm not selling it is we're getting 4G in my town on t-Mobile at the end of May but right now it's only Edge. So I'm using an unlocked T-Mobile one with straight talk until that happens. I'm stuck on contract with then because I have three phones to pay off, also everywhere else around me has t-Mobile 4g just not my town
