My Note 2 has been updated to 4.1.2 last month. And this morning it got another update from AT&T. After the update I checked the version number, it's still 4.1.2. Don't know what's going on. Anyone else has this experience? I played around and didn't notice any difference in appearance or performance.

Latest OTA update from ATT is MA4. Updated kernel which includes a security patch for the exploit issue. In the past, you had to be completely stock to successfully take the update (stock rom/recovery).

I got it thanks. There's a mention on the other forum that this is a security patch for the chip.
Just got a small update. Anyone know what's in it? 6.0 prep maybe?

A big update needs a small prep update???? Never heard LOL
Too many video games, I guess. Was half asleep and forgot that that's just not how this works lol
Lousy timing on AT&T. I have been trolling waiting for this update and got really excited. Would have been OK with even an update to unlock the FM radio but alas, we just have a generic update.

No i didn't "root/hack the software" lol . i haven't even received the phone from retailer. this phone is factory unlocked. IMO or experiences this will not affect it but wanted a third opinion.

Unlocked doesn't mean that it was hacked or rooted. It means that you can use any carrier's sim card in it.

I'm no expert, but the way I think it works is that if your phone's not AT&T branded you won't get the update as they are AT&T version specific. If you want to check for and get any kind of updates you'll probably have to go through Samsung's Kies program.
Sorry, misread on the unlocked part.
I just got lots of updates from the play store, one of which is the new Samsung Browser that is included in 6.0 Marshmallow
ok thanks Kyuta Syuko for the information

The Samsung Browser update wasn't tied to this update, Samsung updated the browser to work with Lollipop.
Download This Small Update
Any one know where i can download this update and update manually? I have a att note 4 on tmobile. I use to be a att customer. But i was told by tmobile that my device software updates have to come from att because i have a att branded version of the note 4.

If i had att i would be able to install this update on my phone and would not even need to ask about this. But i no longer have att and have tmobile and want to have all the latest bug and os patches even though you think i do not need it.

Android's April security update tackles another Stagefright flaw
You'll want to update in short order.
Google's monthly Android security updates are nothing new, but its latest release may be particularly important. The new April update tackles eight critical vulnerabilites that include one in the libstagefright library -- you know, the same media framework that recently faced a rash of real and potential exploits. It also patches a nasty kernel flaw that would give attackers full control over your device. You'll get first crack at the fixes if you either have a Nexus device or can install an Android Open Source Project build, but other vendors that offer Google's monthly updates will likely follow suit before long.
Now tell me that i do not need this update!

Relax no one's gonna target you and "hack into your phone" if your worried about stagefirght then you shouldn't rely on att or Samsung for that matter to patch it, consider using a texting app that offers protection instead like textra. Anyway good luck finding that 60mb insignificant update file that no one will bother to upload
Stagefright was patched way before this and even though we just got the update, we still don't have the latest patch
I just got the OTA for 7.1.1 on my unlocked Pixel XL in the UK yesterday and the build number says NMF26Q. I cannot seem to find this build number anywhere, not even on the Google OTA listings (latest one there is NMF26O). Has anyone else received this as well?
I'm stock and unrooted.
Not surprised to hear this. The OTAs must not be unified across the 3 variants (Europe, Verizon, US/Other) as we've seen historically so far with the previous builds . The only differences are likely to be small things related to the carriers/telecoms of the particular region, like baseband changes, maybe VoLTE/Wifi Calling stuff, etc.
Wish Google would label the updates right for regions if they're gonna do this though.
Aaaand of course as I type this a check the wesbite actually does say "Europe" and "Verizon" in them

I agree.
Not for the 7.1.1 version though. I only see the NMF26O build, and it's simply labeled as Dec 2016.
I also got a new update after flashing the one Google released and it's 800MB :S

I adb side loaded the 26O the day before yesterday, and got 26Q the next day too. Also in the UK and on O2, although the handset is unlocked.

I have received the update and installed it too! Everything seems buttery smooth and faster than before! Install it now! :good:
Note: I do not know how to extract OTA file from the update, so hope someone could be able to help in sharing the OTA zip file with us.
Seems you are using VPN to receive the update. Which VPN are you using? What is your / the VPN location?
Which screen protector You use? Looks good, any specs or link? I'm in Germany, still no update for eu version.
Seems like only the Motorola employees are getting the update. above photos are familiar to me. Seen somewhere in Facebook page of Moto.

What network are you on?
The most important question, were you guys able to keep root, or install root after updating to Nougat? Thanks!
Yeah, with unlocked bootloader it's easy, just flash a zip in TWRP
Thank you Lonixlon, have you personally updated your X Force while having TWRP? I had a problem with installing OTA security patch as phone booted directly to TWRP. Do you know any workaround for that?
can anyone help this guy to share OTA file?
My idea, maybe stupid and wrong - Update arrives depending on the CID of the phone.
The version of the system says "retapac", which stands for "Retail Asia Pacific" - a retail version of the phone for Asia and the Pacific.
But I do not understand what is written in "On the phone" before upgrading to NUGA. Take on incomprehensible things, mismatches, in the version of Android, the Baseband version, the system version and the build number. In the build number is very old version of the system mpks24.78-8-12, in the version of the system is the latest version of the system with the upgrade to 6.0.1, but here the old version 6.0 and the old modem.
I have a lot of questions without answers ...

Well, may I express my opinion here too. I have an XT1581 Kinzie from China, it came with Lollipop 5.1.1. Workling perfect.
I go and update it to MM 6.0 using a Mexican or LKatin America rom, I keep the modem for the baseband from the Lollipop 5.1.1 Chinese rom, everything works almost better than before, not a single issue.
Now,m I tried to update it to Nougat 7 following the Google+ guide, a nightmare, although an enjoyable one!
First, I have only one sim working, no wif. Try anoth system, now I have two sims OK but still no wifi.
At the end, after many trials, I went back to my old MM 6.0 LAt rom, backed using TWRP, and the system is back to normal with everything working OK.
Did you ask me if I'm going to change? Nope, I'm happy the way things are, unless an official Nougat 7 ir 7.1.1 rom comes by, not loosing other time.
I agreemthere is a lot of confusion between the various roms and regions.
This news about the update and the video is very similar to the fake... Just why from such an ordinary case as an update do such a stupid circus?
not yet arrived in Indian version XT1580
neither for reteu.retfr
I have moto x play, is that mean android nougat not so far from us...??
All my Pixels have been Google-branded. Over the years, there have been carrier-specific builds during some updates. I have seen it for Verizon and T-Mobile. I have used both the generic version and carrier-specific builds and they work fine in the Google-branded Pixels.
I am still curious, though, what is Google's intent for these carrier-specific builds? Should the Google-branded Pixel always run the generic build, or if I am using a Verizon SIM, I should use the Verizon-specific build?
My phone is rooted, so I never OTA.
The carrier specific builds usually have either different bootloader or radio images than the Google stock build. My guess as to why Google does this is that the carrier submitted their changes somewhat late in the cycle and Google doesn't want to risk rolling them out to everyone until they are sure it works as intended, since they usually go back to a single stock build the next month that includes the carrier specific items. As to which build to use my experience has been that a Google branded phone with a Verizon sim will try to take a Stock OTA if the difference is the bootloader and the Verizon OTA if it is the radio. I have downloaded and looked at both versions and the bootloader is the difference so I would use the Google stock image.

To confirm my understanding -- you compared the June firmware between the Google and VZ version, and the only difference is the bootloader? Thanks.

Correct.
june 19?
I honestly don't think it matters. I didn't even notice that there was a Verizon version and was in a rush getting ready to leave work. I accidentally downloaded and flashed the Verizon version to my Google branded 3XL on AT&T and it's doing fine. I've had no issues.
