Launcher Question - LG Optimus G Pro

What launcher uses the least amount of resources? I like the stock launcher but couldn't figure out how to add more than 3 home screens to it and I want 5. Go launcher is ok but it seems to be so commercialized as it is buy this and buy that.
So is there a good, customizable launcher that isn't a resource hog?

I'm not sure on the launcher with the lowest resources used, but if you want to add homescreens to the stock launcher, just pinch with 2 fingers and it will show a blank with a plus sign. Tap that and it will give you another screen.
I personally use next launcher, but I'm pretty sure it is not very light on the resources. I got it when they had it 40% off (still is expensive though). I enjoy it, but you're right on the commercializing of the go launcher stuff.

Nova Launcher. Light on resources, very customizable. Pretty sure the only things you can't do with the free version are change widget size and get unread badges. I love it.

Same thing could be said with Apex. Not a ram hog or anything. Really love this launcher. Stay away from Go Launcher though.

Agreed, golauncher does it for me, but the apk is rather bloated and after reviewing has a lot of useless features that make it sumwat battery unfriendly.. would b nice to have an alternitave with similar features without all the unnecessary extras

I've paid for and used Launcher Pro and ADW EX each for months, then I saw saw the thread here on sslauncher. Free, and amazing. I'm never going back to the others.
Launcher Pro was my favorite, but it is becoming outdated due to lack of updates. GO Launcher EX has great features and is free. ADW EX is also good but it is a paid app. I would go with GO Launcher EX. Its fast, lots of customization, and its free.
I actually like TW compared to the others I tried (which is about all of them). I like to be able to touch the dots to change screens instead of swiping. I can go from homescreen 1 to 5 with just one touch. Same with the app drawer. I have 12 pages of apps. I don't need to keep swiping from one page to the other to get through them all, or if I have it on continuous, I don't have to scroll from top to bottom. If I'm on page 1, and I need page 10, I just tap that dot.
I like Go better than all the rest. I like the ease of being able to long press an icon and then being able to delete from screen, change the icon, or add a gesture on the homescreen.
I also like the fact that in the app drawer you can hide apps from showing without having to freeze them using titanium backup. I use this to keep my app drawer organized. I hide all the apps in the app drawer that i have in my dock. No point in having them show up in 2 places.
Also with Go you can have up to 3 docks. you just swipe left or right to get to more apps on the dock. I use this to keep my homescreen as clean looking as possible.
ADW Launcher EX is great! But on ICS I use APEX, Nova Prime, and sometimes Trebuchet, but I only have ICS on my Kindle Fire right now so I can't get the full experience on my phone. ADW Launcher EX can be themed in multiple ways, I use the ICS theme on my phone. So basically use ADW!

Go Launcher

I was kind of amazed at all the features this had for free compared to paid launchers. Anyone else try this launcher? Seems almost too good to be true for free.

It's been out forever prolly the most widely used 3rd party launcher out but yea its great especially paired with go locker and go back up. go calendar is a great add on as well especially when themed.

go launcher is awsome i use go launcher and adw launcher (paid version) and both work really great. go launcher allows you to do all the things as any other launcher and more i have used it for over a year now and the updates since then are awsome with some great eye candy i highly recommend it. :good:
i use go launcher as well. i love how you can customize the scrolling dock bar, and how easy it is to change icon size and spacing etc. i was using it with evo 4g
Go has a lot of features that must be paid for if you were to use ADW or ProLauncher. It was sluggish on the Transform, but then, everything was.
They even have a backup up app. At first, Go SMS had its own backup system, now you have to download their global Backup app. Then they added a mandatory email requirement. You can't jsut save a file to your card anymore, they have to be able to keep tabs on you I suppose. That's where I draw the line.
Backup has some root functions, backing up apps ans settings very much like TB. But I don't use it.
Overall, I prefer it to Apex or Nova, because of the options.
I use apex pro I love simplicity. Go launcher was sweet when I first got this phone but I moved on. My wife uses go launcher with the same phone and I was playing with it the other day. It was kinda sluggish. And I really didn't like the delay when unlocking with go locker.

So far it's running great I don't notice any slow down at all. I was a tad skeptical at first that it had features for free that all the other launchers make you pay for but it looks and runs great.

What launcher are you guys using?

What's going on guys? Seeing as to how this phone is super fast and snappy, I thought I'd create the first "Themes and Apps" thread for the Razr M
Almost as soon as I got the phone, I downloaded and installed Go Launcher, Go sms, go calendar, go task, go note, and go switch because thats what I'm used to and those apps/widgets kick ass...
but I know that the "circles widget" is supposedly really cool and the stock launcher wasn't too bad...so I was wondering, what launchers are you guys having success/fun with? Go launcher runs super fast with all the animations and whatnot, so I can definitely imagine the other launchers probably run great too

A lot of people are either running with apex or nova these days. IMO they're pretty similar except the fact that apex has gestures included for free (which is one of the main reasons people use it) while as nova does not have gestures included. IMO I thought Nova was a little snappier but that's just one guys opinion. I recently switched back to the stock launcher because I missed the circles widget. Plus I might upgrade to jellybean soon but I'm waiting because there was a couple articles online that said the official version might be released this week! Prolly not... but better to have hope than none at all lol.

I'm using Go Launcher also. Not really in love with the circle widgets, so that's no loss for me.
Personally, I'm not into themed icons at all. Or any theming for that matter. Prefer a stock (or close to) look. Using Nova Prime and the JB icon pack.

i know!! its so lame we cant use circles widget on 3rd party launchers.....itd be awesome if someone could create a hacked APK that if we sideloaded could let the widget be accessed by any app
+1 on hacked circle widget not a big fan of it personally, but good too have options
And I'm rooted on JB leak, debloated running blank all black lightning launcher with swipepad

Nova Prime with JB leak. Pretty much installed that right away when I got the phone but I'm kind of curious to use the stock launcher, however I got Prime on sale and I love the gestures to add another 5 app launches from the dock.

Hi,
I've just gone though the ROMS-CM 10 and Eclipse, but found that CM 10 has really bad speaker problems for incoming calls, which I could not, nor others users could not, work around. Although its the most interesting ROM and quite smooth, and allows for themes from Market. The Eclipse is very smooth and I think built better, but frankly boring. Neither of these allow for the Moto 3 rings, which I noticed nearly everyone in this string has missed or gone back to. Also, I'd hoped to be able to allow for the larger screen in a ROM, where the soft device tools at the bottom are eliminated (using changes in Build.Prop and the app: "Button Savior" as replacement-which is a fabulous app), and while CM 10 allows for their elimination, except for "menu" still the black area remains. Eclipse doesn't allow for this at all. Making the changes in Build.Prop works in CM 10 re: the screen but the speaker issue turned me away after awhile along with losing all notification alerts and signal strength meter. So back to stock moto and found that Nova launcher, with root, allows for, what seems, at least a %60 transparency on the bottom of the screen as well as the elimination of the top notification bar, but the alerts occur and incoming emails can be seen in the Lock screen-works well. So, I'm now back to stock w Nova, although the Moto 3 ring app cannot work on Nova.
Using Action Launcher. I love it.

Stock most of the time but occasionally Nova prime. If it weren't for the ugly Motorola icons I could probably live with the stock launcher all the time. One more clock widget free is certainly close enough to the circle widget to live with (except the text messages not showing up in it) on Nova and I enjoy the options of Nova but the stock launcher performs as good as any and is pretty close to stock android save the left most quick settings I could take or leave.

I hate Go Launcher. It used to be great. Then they switched over to GetJar to download themes, and they have Free to download but pay to use themes. It's a huge mess. I personally like Nova or Apex. Although now that ADW has updated their app, I've been using that. I have to say it works pretty well, though each time I reboot I have to reset it as the default launcher.
I love the stock launcher with a few exceptions; I don't understand why they made the pages a 4x4 grid. The Note fully justifies a 5x5 grid. I wish that the other launchers gave you the ability to quick-scroll between pages in the homescreen and in the dock like the stock touchwiz launcher does.
I changed my DPI to 280 and use Go Launcher with a 6x6 grid and works very well. Now the stock Samsung keyboard and dialer did not scale correctly, but I use Swipe and the Go Dialer.
Adw has gotten as lot better and after a haitus from it I'm back and it's better than it had ever been

Well, I finally invested the time in learning enough about Lightning Launcher. It's really COMPLETELY different than other launchers I've tried, which is what I like about it. I've tried Apex, ADW, Nova and briefly touched GO -- they're all pretty much the same -- all pretty good. Lightning is kind of a big pain to figure out and it doesn't give the option for a scrollable dock, but you can pin, resize, rotate and arrange all icons, widgets and folder labels in whatever way you want, all on a zoomable, scrollable page. You can't really apply themes, but you can make up whatever you want. Your screen is really like a window onto an infinite desktop that you have full control over. It doesn't have the fancy animation options that the others do, so there's not a lot of "Wow" factor for others to see, but I have everything accessible from a single screen that doesn't feel too cluttered with icons. Lightning is free from Play and doesn't require root.
FWIW, here's a screen shot of my home page -- The two rows of icons at the bottom are pinned as well as the Google search widget at the top. Everything else moves and zooms in or out behind the pinned stuff. If I want, I can place other items above, below, or to the sides and just scroll to them. Lightning does support other pages that you can switch to with a two-finger swipe, and I use them as sort of a sandbox for trying things out, but everything I want is on my main home page.
I've been using atom launcher for a while first on my s2 and now on my note2. It will let you create folders which is nothing new but you can scroll with your finger or with the S Pen. Also you can vary the opacity of the icons on the home screen if you want to keep some what of a clean look. I'll post pics to better explain.

I'm pretty sure I've tried them all, and seem to always revert back to Nova Pro. Its fast, stable, has nice features without be gimmicky like Go and some of the others. Bottom line I want something that works that isn't at burden on system resource, Nova fits that bill.

Touchwiz or custom launcher?

Hey there I am thinking about using a custom launcher to further customize my phone and was wondering if you guys and girls had any input in regards to battery life and performance. Do custom launchers typical have negative effevts on performance and battery. The way it seems to.me is that you are essntially always running a program in memory. Which would in turn use up ram and ofcourse battery life. If I am wrong in this please feel to correct me. Any and all input is welcomed.

Touchwiz launcher is a program that's running and using memory as well. You could use something like holo launcher that is more lightweight than the tw launcher. The tw launcher isn't running in the background if you use a different launcher cause that one took its place. You can even freeze the tw launcher with ti backup (touchwiz home). A launcher like go or adw may use more memory though.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
If you decide to use an alternate launcher then the default Touchwiz launcher will not be "running" in the background using up your battery.
Other launchers like Go Launcher , Nova, adw, etc., etc., do not necessarily use more or less battery. If poorly written software then yes.
However, the major launchers do a great job maximizing battery life...otherwise no one would use em.
I like alternate launchers simply for the added features such as gestures, resizing icons, different grid sizes, etc.. I really don't care about theming or changing colors but many do and alternate launchers allow that of course.
Try some, u can always uninstall.
Note: there is zero reason to freeze Touchwiz...no benefit at all.

Plus I like that when I leave from the app draw it saves my place on Apex rather then reverting back to the beginning like Nova does. Besises that they're basically the same if u ask me, just my two cents. Have fun trying them all out, they all have at least one maybe two things that sets it apart from the others. Now all u gotta do is find the one that u like and customize the heck out of it!
