I think the camera quality isn't a hardware problem but a software one. E.g. in darkness the camera doesn´t turn on the light when focussing.
In system/lib/hw is a file (camera.msm.8960.so) which should be changed but i'm not able to do this. There must be played with the values. Some clever guys did this in for other phones before.
My phone before was the LG 2x and in that forum they raised quality above 200% of the original one.
I attache the file to work with. Maybe here are some insiders too.
...the only problem is that the camera does not focus when the flash comes in darkness. Or it focuses too early or too late. When you turn on the flashlight on the phone permanently and take a photo, everything is fine. The problem is in CM 10.1 and 10.2.
Isn´t here somebody who knows a trick?

In focal camera you have the option to turn on flash as a torch. I turn it on then take a picture. That fixed for me but I have to agree. The camera quality is bad. Something must be done.
Just use a 3rd party camera app.

I tried some 3rd party apps but that didn't solve the problem that the camera doesn't focus when using the flash. This seems not to be an app problem, it's in the files from the rom like I attached above.
Or do you have a suggestion for an app that solves the problem with focus in darkness?

Hmmm...as for me I don't have that issue. I am using Epsilon V3 ROM by core720, which is based on stock. For camera app, I use snap camera hdr and the new focal camera.

Ok, I tried that rom which is very great, very smooth. Nice. But the camera is still not focussing right with the stock cam or snap camera hdr in darkness at my side. It surely is not an app problem...

Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thx for helping
Is that in the stock camera app?
Try manually reducing the exposure to see if that helps. That's highlight clipping, but to see that in a photo out of a stock camera app is bizarre .

Strange indeed. Perhaps try a digital photography forum. Maybe someone can identify this issue . I'd hate for it to be a hardware problem. Good luck

Yes indeed..but am thinking about driver problem..ok.thanks anyway
after upgrading to a KitKat rom (Paranoid) my camera is pretty much useless.
I tap the screen to focus. Click the button to take the picture. It goes from a perfectly clear picture to a completely out of focus picture. I never had this issue before.
I have went through my settings and do not see a manual focus setting.
Try a different camera app, I bought and use camera fx. If you use aosp roms frequently, I would suggest trying out a few camera apps and figure out which one works best for you. Again, aosp camera is pretty much junk, imo!

i thought it was packaged with the nexus 5 camera... i will try many.. thanks for the tip
HI everybody,
K this camera apk was pulled from the MIUI rom port while doing extensive testing of the rom it's self just to see how the rom did. While doing this I noted with the camera all issues we have on the cm and nexus based roms are non existent on the MIUI camera, but the camera does have issues.
1. It has two issues one when it takes a photo's with the rear facing camera it saves it upside down for some reason
2. second issue i found is when you go to the front facing camera it glitches in the transition and you half to close it out and restart and then it'll be on the front facing camera and you half to do the same to get back to the rear facing camera NOTE: the front facing camera does not flip the image
Now initially I thought this might of been the miui rom its self so I grabbed the camera apk and jumped to the Nexus rom and IT WORKS. I currently use this camera as my daily driver despite its issues and even though I have purchased the Snap Camera, I just prefer the MIUI camera...
I would note I ran a search on the camera apk files name and found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/find-7/development/mod-oppocamera-settings-timer-scene-t3003030 I tried the zips they have and they don't seem to work on our phone.
Also I did not know who to credit for this. I'm sorry for that; if some one know's who pm me or comment. Thanks
personally i find 'BlueCam' delivers better photos than the MIUI, the only features that don't work is manual focus but the auto focus does a fine job and it has torch mode to take care of night photos which gets over the flash problem, its also free on the app store.

true that, I'm thinking it should be very possible for an app to utilize an existing camera app to take the picture and then parse it, if background elements are an issue a crop tool can be built it. I'll look into it after this coming week and see if i can come up with something. Won't be perfect but it'll be better than nothing

Regarding barcode scanning... it is not as seemless as barcode scanner or google goggles, but I had good success with QR droid which can use an existing picture to read a barcode.

That's what I'm getting at, if its possible to read from an image then it should be possible to have your camera take a snap shot, save it has an ordinary image and then have an app interpret it. At least in theory, I don't know how feasable it is yet
I use this camera app from f-droid app store its free and open source and also works well with flash
https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=camera&fdid=com.simplemobiletools.camera
Tried it with latest lineage os by ggow. Focus is fast and pictures are coming up great. There is no manual controls but this app is better than stock or Google camera app in my opinion anyway. Camera button also works to activate this app and to take snaps with. Developer also has gallery app in f-droid if you want to give it a spin.

The camera from F-droid is very limited and it does not work with flash. It works in a sense that flash can be permanently turned on and used as a light. The oppo camera however seems to work correctly. The only problem I encountered is switching between front and rear camera. Seems like usable camera to use when you need flash support. Otherwise open camera app is good and full featured app.

I find oppo camera good but pictures for not known reason turn out upside down - I really don't fancy switching them back manually.
Another good app is camera HDR. As mentioned in CyanogenMod description it just work well.
thanks. really nice. flash light photos works fine.
hi all, since i change to aosp base custom nougat. There is a very big chance the phone "cannot connect to camera". When this happen, the phone will heat up and drain the battery. I think there is a kernel error and cause camera running but unable to show anything on screen. Force close wasn't help to fix this , only reboot.
I always use bacon camera because it come with real manual mode. And the only app with it. I doubt the manual mode(api level) in the app conflict with kernel .
Now i uninstall it and use other app with standard function to keep track if Bacon camera is the root cause of this error.

Any clues? I'm experiencing the same problem, and changing rom and/or kernel does not seem to fix it. I'm using bacon camera too, and actually started considering the possibility of it being the problem. Have you discovered something about it?

Use moto camera and adjust build.prop to get the manual mode . Bacon camera is not zuk rom friendly
This happened to me while using HDR in Bacon Camera in RR 5.8.4 with Darkmoon Kernel. In my case the system detected no camera at all. Not even AIDA64 showed anything. The only possible solution is to clean reflash of whatever ROM you want (Dirty Flashing doesn't work). I tried the Bacon again on AEX but same problem after sometime. The only equivalent (better actually) I found to Bacon Camera and all its glories is the Snap Camera v8.6.0 (latest). Don't bother if it shows as gallery while installing. Best Manual Camera app I've used by far. Plus it can utilize the legacy mode of Camera2api available on our device. I'm not talking about the snapdragon camera app. This is different. It's package name is -com.marginz.snap-.

Snap camera is not a bad app. But I really don't know how to activate manual mode for this app. The only app which support manual mode and working with no bug is moto camera.

I think for anything more than manual focusing we need Camera2api. Some apps like the Moto Camera or Even Footej support Manual Modes but as far as I've tested them, the manual adjustment is not that accurate (the iso adjustment has little to no effect on the pic). However in the Image Details, the iso is marked to what we set, so many are fooled. I'm a Hobbyist Photographer and have a Good Camera so I have no requirements to take manual photos on my phone. As far as I'm concerned the Snap Camera HDR capture is the best out there yet for our phone and that's all i require out of the above average sensors in our phone. Still if you want Manual Control of Exposure and ISO, try to achieve with post production, either using snapseed or Photo Editor(The Photoshop equivalent in Android, -com.iudesk.android.photo.editor-). Honestly You won't find the difference until you scrutinize in Big Screen. For Any Social Media purposes that's more than enough.
Try the 13 august jaguar kernel and Flash the new camera blobs if the error persists.
But before that you will have to reflash the Rom by wiping dalvik cache/cache/system.
Dont wipe the Data if you need your app configuration to remain the same.
So what makes a camera stutter? After trying out the ported OnePlus camera and noticing how smooth it looked, I now hate the stock camera. However, the camera doesn't work correctly with nougat (it takes pictures and when I look at them in the gallery, they're rotated 90° counter clockwise). So what's a camera app that works almost perfectly and also provides fluidity with that such as in the OnePlus camera?
There is a workaround for the OnePlus camera if it takes photos rotated, Simply select HDR from the 3dot menu in bottom right and then deselect, your photos will be fine. Even if you do not deselect HDR it will be fine but I recommend deselecting it because HDR doesn't show much difference to me and there is processing after the pic so it takes more time. If you want to try other camera apps, I made a thread on it some time ago https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-k10/themes/root-stock-camera-apps-ported-devices-t3573485. The app you should try is Google camera but the one in the thread is for marshmallow and as you said you have nougat, there is a never version for nougat. Look for it in apk mirror or request me if you cant, I'll look for you.

I have the Google camera, but on my device it's a bit Jarry and sluggish.... I tried the HDR fix, and it didn't work. It may be due to your port being for marshmallow, and I'm on nougat with different hardware..... Thank you for your response though!
