i rooted my phone a while ago, and i think i remember unlocking bootloader but im not sure. i DO have TWRP recovery, does that mean that i had to unlock my bootloader to get it; thus it is unlocked?
thanks!

Since u r rooted and already have custom recovery flashed, there's no need to do anything else..u can now flash custom rom of ur need via recovery.
International Samsung devices have an unlocked bootloader when you buy it.
So it's necesseray but already done by the manufacturer.

You can have root without unlocked bootloader
but It makes me wonder why you would revert back to locked?
just wait for someone to make a ROM / nandroid and flash the new file lol.
OTA is for people who aren't used to fooling with there device
apparently i tried rooting but i cant root without unlocking bootloader, only after i unlocked the bootloader i manage to get root
so it is advisable to just keep my unlock bootloader and flash new roms using Flashtool?

If you want a practically guaranteed method of rooting, yes that would be easiest. FTFs only come out like 1-2 weeks at most after the update is sent out anyway
Hey guys;
I have an Bell Sony Xperia ZL, rooted, but locked downloader.
I checked to see if I can unlock the bootloader to install CyanogenMod on it, but it says that it say 'No' for bootloader unlock allowed.
Does this mean that I'll never be able to unlock the bootloader and install CyanogenMod on it. I had a Samsung Galaxy Gio that I bought from Bell, and I could install Custom ROMs to my heart's content.
Any suggestions?

sorry to say but as far as i know if you won't be able to unlock the bootloader. On the upside, there are a few custom roms for locked bootloaders.

Rooting and installing CWM will allow you to install mods and custom roms made for locked bootloaders, it won't help to unlock the bootloader though.

Look on the development section, the root tool is there.

DAMN...even if I dont care about the warranty and stuff, I am stuck with the ATT firmware until the boot loader is unlocked. Question #2, is there a way to downgrade to remove kit kat. or should I just wait? I really want to thank you for your help.

I'm really waiting for lg's bootloader unlock support for TWN version, but I got a question about that.

Hi XDA Community,
I recently changed my PIN and forgot all about it until my phone ran out of battery. After my reboot, it asks me for my PIN, and I forgot it... My 5T is not rooted. My question is, do I have to be rooted to install TWRP recovery? I do not want to wipe my device. Please assist. Thank you so much for your help.

You don't have to be rooted to install TWRP but you need an unlocked bootloader. Is your bootloader unlocked? If not I ask you to kindly follow the steps given here.

AFAIK, no.
How do you unlock the bootloader if you do not have OEM unlock and usb debugging in the developer options?
Thank you for all your responses. I have taken this opportunity to learn and ALWAYS have a custom recovery. I've wiped everything sadly, unlocked bootloader, rooted and am on TWRP with a custom rom now.
