Newer s3s don't allow flashing of AOSP roms. There are tons of threads about this already. From my understanding, you have to flash modified recovery for even custom TW roms to work -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391616

If he doesn't use the modded recoveries that ed linked he won't be able to flash any rom tw or AOSP. With the modded recoveries he will at least be able to flash a tw Rom.

Hey blackwing182, if you have time, could you please port over sk8's latest recovery. He fixed up the custom zip maker and added a few other features which makes it nice. The latest version as of today is v14.4.5. I appreciate it. :fingers-crossed:
Please < FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK> This recovery has Issues. I am working on a customers phone that tried flashing this recovery. It will cause issues. Random shutdowns,
Running backups in recovery phone will shutdown in the middle of running backup and last but not least... BRICK THE PHONE... I just ran JTAG on the phone and retried using this recovery and it had all these issues and bricked the phone again. Not trying to cause problems but be for warned..
I've never had any of those issues. I've been on Sk8erwitskil's recovery since tdj first recommended way back when. Sounds like seriously bad downloads on your end.

The Hercules 4.1.2 leak has not been leaked. So far all kernels and ROMs that claim to be 4.1.2 official are based off Skyrocket. Until we get our leak Skyrocket is our only hope.

keywords i927, thegreatergood, LiteKernel, LiteROM, CM 10.1, Rootbox, VanillaRootbox, gapps. All in 4.2.1 Jellybean and/or ICS versions, whichever you prefer. Go into GooManager, devs, thegreatergood, for 2013 version CM 10.1, project branched with full approval from dman. CM stands for CyanogenMod, you can find "Cyanogen". CM 10.1 is current January 2013 stable rom. CM 10.1 and LiteROM and LiteKernel and Rootbox and VanillaRootbox overlap a lot. Depends on which boot animation you prefer!
Android app GooManager, devs: thegreatergood
I flashed CWM's recovery.img from my laptop, over usb cable. Phone power button & volume up, Download mode for flashing, reboot with volume down for CWM Recovery. From /external_sd/[all your rom zip files], CWM flash CM 10.1 and gapps which you downloaded to your sdcard by laptop/desktop.
After that, from CM, goomanager thegreatergood.
I use ROM Manager Pro and SU Pro, but that hardly matters if I use goomanager or browser to download zip's and then reboot CWM. For installing CM, factory wipe, wipe dalvik and cache and data. Then install/flash the CM zip, and gapps zip, from CWM, then reboot.
Code:
heimdall --no-reboot --14 recovery.img
I installed LiteROM and it offered a choice of different radios, which I guess correspond to modem.bin. I don't know which are better for ATT, T-Mobile, etc. If those do correspond to modem.bin then we can swap them anytime:
heimdall --no-reboot --13 modem.bin [rename a radio to modem.bin???]
Basically, just flash CWM's recovery.img from laptop, using heimdall(of course you hate odin/windows), and then CM 10.1 zip from CWM Recovery.

Anyone Running AOKP(Jellybean 4.2.1 )Task650 (AT&T)?

If you are running this ROM on your SGH-T999 (T-Mobile SG3), could you please share how your were able to flash this ROM and if it's running alright?
Thanks!

Why not just nandroid backup, wipe, and flash? It won't hard brick your device. Most, if not all, att ROMs are flashable on d2tmo.
What's so special about that AOKP anyway? We have Rootbox, AOKP from Kasper, and Illusion here... Can it be that different?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Actually it can, Task is a huge coder and adds a lot of the patches to the gerrit so if you use his rom you get the best of things usually. He is really an impressive dev and test things before release very thoroughly. He also makes his own kernel for the rom! I flashed and loved his rom a many times. But Illusion/Rootbox from Ramsay is the business for me now.

I installed TWRP from the open recovery script in GooManager, wiped and tried flashing Task's ROM in recovery, but I got an error. I was reading last night I may have to flash an AT&T TWRP recovery to make this work properly. I was planning on flashing Rootbox and Illusion eventually to oompare. I decided to try out Task's ROM based on Mr. Highway (Archangel) recommendation as being one of the best ROM'S for the SG3 period.

Sorry about that. I downloaded and flashed Task's ROM through GooManager. I should have explored that option prior to asking for help. I used open script TWRP recovery for TMO. I hope this will help out those looking to test this or other ROMs.

[ROM] Stock Telus T989DTLUMC4 [06.29.2013]

Hi Everyone,
I was searching through the threads looking for the official stock Telus T989DTLUMC4 firmware update. I was able to find the Odin flashable version of the update but I was not able to find one that is flashable through recovery. So, I decided to make one and share with everyone here in the community.
This is the official Telus T989DTLUMC4 firmware downloaded from the SamMobile website. I have rooted, installed busybox, zipaligned and deodexed. I am currently running it on my T989D Telus Galaxy S 2 right now and it's running great.
I don't intend to add any additional tweaks/mods to this ROM. It is meant strictly for people that want the official TLUMC4 release but don't want to have to flash via odin and reroot.
Also, if any dev's or chefs want to use this as a base for their ROM please feel free to do so, you do not need to PM me to ask for permission. However, I do ask if you choose to use this base in your ROM please give me a thanks/thumbs up in the OP.

Have you tried T-Mobile stock ROM on your telus phone? I was thinking to set up a T-Mobile ROM for my bf to flash but if the telus one is better and less bloated I'll give this one a try.
Can someone that have tried both tell which is better. I own the T-Mobile version and have only tried the ROM from Jamison.

I actually just downloaded the stock firmware for the Tmobile version today, was going to build a Stock, rooted, deodexed version for the TMo guys and gals as well. When it's up I guess you can give this one and the TMo one a try and see which you like best. Typically Telus has less bloat but also doesn't have wifi calling.

I would not recommend dirty flashing from ICS to JB. Make a backup first of your current ICS stock ROM and then do a full clean wipe and install.

AOSP ROM request thread

So I've recently gotten into porting roms from source...and I'd thought I'd fulfill some AOSP cravings since I have access to a build server.
The following roms are already in my porting plans:
AOKP 4.3
CodefireXperiment 4.2.2 and 4.3
If only a few people are interested in a particular rom, I will post builds here. If multiple people are interested, then I will create and maintain a thread for each rom. No guarantees for anything, but I will do what I can.
----
IMPORTANT NOTE: If someone suggests an AOSP rom that you have interest in seeing built for our device, please THANK their post so that I know you are interested, and also to keep duplicate/"+1" posts to a minimum.
Note: Source port means that it will be ported using THE SOURCE CODE. These roms will be compiled from source, they will not be ported using binaries already compiled for other devices.
Thanks!

CM being Cyanogen, correct? I've tried a number of ROM's that are CM based (Android dude on boot) that hang.

It's not that they are CM based. The CM kernel was modified for newer devices as of the 9/22 nightly.
And sorry, but this really isn't the place to be asking any of this. Check the relevant threads for the information you need.
How about Chameleon OS?

Latest nightlies have data/voice broken. ;(
Black bean was one of my favorites, I might do some source work and build it sometime. But till then, a sexy port would rock

These will source ports. Meaning that they will be compiled from source. The "port" part of that involves adding our device tree and other misc things to get it working for the Sprint s3.
I can test any AOSP Source Port you do cnexus. Just send me a link.
(Purity? ) Just kidding bud. But I really can test any one you do.

AOKP. I know you already said that in your OP, but I just wanted to make sure that you knew people were interested in the unicorn

Thanks CNexus. More things to play with are always better. Couple of questions for you:
1) Will the impending drop of TW based Android 4.3 for our S3 devices give the AOSP community anything in the way of hardware drivers or RIL material to work from? (just curious)
2) Could I request that you maybe post announcements here for any builds you come up with and where to get them (for the first couple at least)?
It's exciting to consider these new AOSP ROMs. Especially since it appears we are about the only US variant of the S3 w/o official device support for AOKP.
