[Q] Back to stock recovery? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I have a Nexus with UNLOCKED Bootloader, TWRP recovery and root.
Can I back to stock recovery and stay with root on my Nexus?
Only flash recovery stock, how can I do it?
Thanks in advance.

You can have root and stock recovery
You can find a mini guide to flashing stock recovery in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448015
In the download section of that post you can find the stock recovery for the version you need

I found the recovery stock here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
While flash this recovery (from file ROM), the root will not stay on device?

If you extract just the recovery from the image zip and flash that, root will stay. If you flash the whole thing, root will be gone.

Only recovery image zip, so my Nexus will stay with root & unlocked bootloader?
Stock recovery will possible to get OTA from google?
To flashing recovery image zip, copy file recovery.img to storage device and running command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"?
Thanks

If I am reading what you wrote correctly, yes to all your questions
Root needs to have been installed using SuperSU v1.55 or above for ota to work.

Steps to TWRP

Im on Z008 2.19.40.12_20150612 I cant seem to flash twrp no matter how hard I try. Im rooted and unlocked BL. Is fastboot easiest way or sideload or from twrp manager? Does someone have the download link of which IMG I would need?
Check the General resources thread, you might have to upgrade your stock firmware version.
Download twrp manager from app store. Use that.

I've tried that but what img file do I need for my firmware?
I see the new one is 2.20.40.63 what would be the right twrp img file to flash?

You must be on 2.19.40.18 - 2.19.40.22 to unlock your bootloader. Only after unlocking your bootloader can you flash TWRP onto your phone permanently...
Go to general section and check out the 1st stickied post, it will give you the info you need to do this...
I'm already unlocked and rooted. What img twrp should I flash based on my firmware?

TWRP officially support Zenfone 2 (551ML) so get from there....
I'm 550 ml now what? Can anyone just send me a link to the right img?
What are the steps to flash this TWRP recovery 2.8.7.0 OTG-USB NTFS.zip. This is for 550 ml
I'd use untethered Twrp then flash, but that's me.
Twrp manager automatically picks the right recovery.

Need help to install Phoenix rom

Hi, I want to install phoenix rom on my tab s t800, but I have one question.
I don't understand when I have to flash the developer's bootloader, before or after gain root with cf root+twrp?
I'm on stock lollipop.
Thanks
Just flash the rom with twrp first. If it doesn't boot then you will need to flash the bootloader.

HTC M8 cannot update to android 6.0. Please Help

Hello,
I have a HTC M8 rooted (Super SU) with TWRP Recovery and Android ver. 5.0.1, Software ver. 4.19.111.4, Baseband ver. 1.25.2145000021.06G_20.68.4196t.01_F.
Last couple of days, I received a notification to update for android 6.0, but after I downloaded the update and press to "install now", the phone always restarted to TWRP recovery and do not install the update. Any Idea Why ?!!!.
Could any one help me to install the update?
Thanks

Replace the recovery to stock recovery and relock the bootloader. If you installed the modified firmware, reflash the stock firmware, you will be good

Here you should find the stock recoveries: http://www.andromods.com/download-files/htc-one-m8-stock-recovery-verizon-sprint-att-tmobile.html
download the right recovery.img file and follow these instruction on how to flash - http://androiding.how/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-via-fastboot/ - in this just change the twrp recovery.img to the one you downloaded and run the code in command prompt.
It is recommended to do I clean install to avoid any further reported errors. Once you relock the bootloader you will lose all the data (like hard reset).

Thanks again for the info.
Unfortunately, I could not find the right stock recovery in the link you provided, so I use another one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860.
However, I have to ask, if I am on stock firmware; only rooted through SuperSU and with TWRP recovery,
do I need to reinstall (reflash) or restore to sotck firmware as in steps # 7 to 9 in the post (link) I added, or
can I directly flash the stock recovery and then relock the bootloder and start downloading the update 6.0
Thank.

First thing .. you cannot do OTA with a rooted stock ROM, you need a non-rooted ROM.
Secondly .. there is no need to relock bootloader - read the note in my thread.
Just read again post #1 and follow all the 14 steps, you should be fine.
Anything, you can ask in my thread as I'm not following your thread.

My bootloader is gone, luckly just the bootloader.

Hey!
I have a Zenfone 2 ze550cl (Z00D) with cyanogenmod 12.1
I think i flashed something wrong from adb and now my bootloader mode don't work anymore :cyclops:, when i restart the phone in the bootloader mode it show me the cyanogenmod logo forever.
When i restart in normal mode i have no problem and the recovery mode (twrp 2.8.7.0) work fine too!!!! The problem is JUST the bootloader that i dunno how reinstall it. I can do all except enter in the bootloader mode.
Do u guys have some idea on how to reinstall the bootloader in my phone?
Thank you in Advice !!!!

Either extract from the firmware zip
Or you'll find in the 'general' tab
When i extract the file from the zip firmware i found:
- ifwi.zip
-asusfw.img
-boot.img
-droidboot.img
......
Wich one of this file for restore the stock recovery mode?

Root

If I am on stock recovery and unlocked bootloader, is it possible to root my phone without twrp by flashing magisk zip in stock recovery?

No. Stock recovery will only flash images & zips from OnePlus.
Stock recovery only works with officially signed files from OnePlus.
If you already went through the trouble of unlocking the bootloader then flashing a custom recovery is very easy and straightforward. Otherwise you might as well relock the bootloader.
Theoretically it is possible with MAGISK (even with locked bootloader) but it didn't work for me...
Steps:
1. Extract the boot.img from stock rom zip
2. Patch with Magisk Manager
3. Rename the patched one to boot.img and replace in stock Rom zip
4. Flash the zip in stock revovery
Unluckily I finish with a "Installation failed" error
Did anybody managed this with 5.02 rom and locked bootloader. I got told that for older stock rom it was possible

No, no, no...
What you do is that you let the Magisk Manager patch the stock boot image (as in 1 & 2 above). Then you use fastboot to flash the patched image to your device. No custom recovery needed...
Code:
fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img
Your bootloader has to be unlocked though.

With fastboot I also tried without success. As you told, it is required that the bootloader is unlocked.
