Google wallet not working? Hardware or software?

I haven't used Google wallet in a while but I decided to start again. I use the latest cm9 nightly and the latest Franco nightly. I downloaded Google wallet from get jar and have tried updating it through market but that version doesn't work. I'm tired of going to gas stations and looking like an idiot when Google wallet doesn't start up. I have tried 4 different locations to no avail. Is this a hardware or software problem? I'm using the samsung extended battery that I bought from Verizon and have used many times before. If there is anything else you need please ask

Uninstal wallet and use this to get it.
Do you get an error or does it simply not open?
Do you have NFC enabled in android settings>more?
I have a similar issue... while it would say 'sent' on the phone, the payment never went through.. what an embarrassment

When I put my phone up to the pay pass thing nothing happens. I tried opening the app and then putting it up to it but still nothing. Nfc has always been on. I really don't want to go somewhere and have it not work again. Is there any way to check if my nfc stopped working?

Are you using the "butt" of the phone?
i used the "top" part of the back at first, nothing happened. Then I tapped the "bottom" or "hump" of the back, and it worked flawlessly. Also, your phone needs to be turned on and at the home screen for it to work.
Stopped Working
For the past 2 weeks, Wallet initializes and then says Stopped Working. Any and all thoughts appreciated. Running stock ICS.

Google Wallet fix....kind of

i posted this in another older thread dealing with the secure element
well i dont know if this has been found out before, but here is my story
i got the hong kong nexus gsm back when it came out here in dallas tx tmobile. flashed it to stock google yakju. i used the wallet app apk and everything worked great. when the update came out it stopped working.
go to settings, apps, all. go to wallet, clear data. go to google account manager, clear data. go to google services framework, clear data. once u do that go to about phone check for update. it will have some weird 1969 date. once it checks open wallet and now it works. only thing is pre paid error when adding card
so i flashed to the new takju and same thing. followed thoes steps and same thing.
as far as i can get with wallet

If you are getting an error when adding your prepaid Google card and you previously had one activated, you need to call Money Network and have them do a master reset on your account. The number is 855-896-0693.

Will try thanks
Unsuccessful
I tried, but it did not work for me. I'm still getting the "secure element..." message. Has anyone tried activating with a different battery?
The battery is an antenna. Nothing more. Secure Element lives in your phone.

gonna have to get a replacement...that's what I did
Does the master reset really work? I tried this from an apk long time ago and now it won't work with the market installed app and won't allow me to add a prepaid card.

I got this today, stuck at "Initializing your device"
I did Wipe Google Wallet from within the app, and after which i went back to google wallet and it's stuck there.
Stays the same after reflashing 4.0.4.

Root + Google Wallet

Many figured out on the HTC EVO 4G LTE forums that Google Wallet and root don't mix as well as me seeing the same "unsupported device" on a new android device. So here is the quick fix until someone can verify someone elses modified Google Wallet apk will work on our device.
Posted by Dark_shadow70 (the method of the quick fix has been found by many)
if you are rooted and you're using google wallet you'll see an unsupported device warning, wallet still works but it's annoying.,
here's what I did.
Make sure you wallet is not been setup, if it has, reset it to factory.
before you start wallet, disable super user (I'm running super SU v0.93)
(open super SU,settings, UNCHECK enable super SU)
setup wallet until you see your balance and the wallet is activated.
exit wallet.
enable super SU
open wallet, set it up and that's all, it worked for me, I hope it works for you..!

The other question is can anyone confirm their NFC chips on their tablet is fine after flashing a rom? On the Evo's side, their chips were ruined if they didn't clear the settings before flashing a new rom.

You should always reset wallet from within wallet before flashing new rom's. The same thing happens on the Galaxy Nexus - secure element errors.
Wallet works fine with root. The only difference is the notification at the top, but it still functions the same.
You're saying to not flash a rom until you clear wallet data?
Sent from my AOKP Galaxy SII
Don't flash a rom or update on if you use Google wallet without going into the wallet app and using the built in clear settings (If you wipe app data you will not be able to use wallet any more)
Sent from The One X
wallet works fine with root, you just don't get any support if you have issues.
Google Wallet no longer shows up in play after rooting jr003d.

[Q] Will the updated version of Google Wallet still have the secure element brick?

From what I could tell, with the new update google changed things up quite a bit in google wallet. I was wondering if the new version will still have the secure element bricking problems.
Anyone know?

I sure hope not, after flashing the latest ROM my google wallet is completely bricked, and what is even more weird is that it also stopped google wallet from working on my tablet as well which has not had any issues until i flashed a new ROM
I do not have a Nexus but here's what I have experienced with Google Wallet. I flashed several Roms always being careful to reset wallet before doing a full wipe. Sometimes I would get stuck at the adding card phase of setup but eventually it would work. The most recent time I flashed I completely forgot to reset wallet thought I was done. But fortunately wallet setup fine and I was able to use it. I attested it to the updated app, but I'm not 100% sure. Have you tried updating to the latest wallet?
Well r96 didnt fix it for me.
Just bricked the wallet app on my note 2
Heres to if I can find a solution. Maybe I can lie my way into sprint fixing my nfc.

Unlink Google Wallet

i'm not sure if this is the right place to be asking this, but here goes.
so i had a modified version of Google Wallet installed on my rooted Galaxy Nexus. well, i then started to prep the phone to be sold, so i wiped the phone, and flashed a ROM. not realizing until after that i guess there's some weird authentication things with Google Wallet? or something?
well anyways, i didn't make a nandroid backup because my primary device is my (non-rooted) Galaxy S3.and so my Galaxy Nexus was more like a music and games player with a working Google Wallet.
i haven't tried this yet, but would i be able to install Google Wallet again on the phone, then unlink/reset it, and then wipe the phone?

google wallet is unique to the device b/c of the 'secure element'. If you didn't break the secure element, then a re-install of wallet should be fine.
You may have just encountered the secure element error where you didn't restore Google Wallet completely before you wiped your device. If that really is the case, you won't be able to use Google Wallet on it ever again unless somebody devises a fix for it.
I tried to install Google wallet to the phone on the same ROM and different ROMS.
I'm getting the your device isn't supported error now. I've tried 2 different APK files, and I can't download it from Play store.
Any suggestions?

Device isn't supported just means that you are rooted - doesn't effect functionality...
Correct unsupported device is normal, that means your phone is rooted and money market is not responsible for any loss of money because they feel that a rooted device is less secure. The secure element issue is when your device is broken and the wallet will never work again. At this point your perfectly fine and just like everyone else. If you flash stock and lock the bootloader your unsupported device message should go away.

the only thing that weirds me out though, is that i had Google Wallet working on it while rooted, but now it's not working.
before, when it was working, that dialog would come up, but then still let me use the app. now it's just auto closing after the alert dialog.
guess i shouldn't worry about it too much since i'm trying to sell it.
Please see wallet.google.com
You can remove all devices, and as soon as the device opens the Google Wallet app, it blows itself up!
