A couple of weeks ago, I went on Sammobile and installed a leaked OTA that I thought didnt carry any problems with until now. I Installed the UVLI1 verson. Now yesterday, I just found out that I will not be able to get any OTAs from T-Mobile since my modem number is changed. So I tried to Install the UVALH2 update so I can get back on the offical modem but its not letting me install it! Im 100% stock. No root or anything. I need help please.

Thanks guys... It may have taken 2 hours but I finally Rooted my phone for the first time... Flashed the previous update and now im just waiting for it to start so i can unroot my phone... I like knowing that I have a warranty on it
One more noob question.... How do you know if your phone is unrooted? I Flashed the previous update and cleared my cashe and wiped my data and now my device status is normal. does that mean that im not rooted anymore?
Glad you're learning some of the basics but you should definitely read before you start going to sammobile and installing leaks. You should be glad that your phone isn't bricked.

Learning is what happens when you do something that you don't have the knowledge to do. If I said I knew what I was doing before I started flashing, I would be a liar. That being said, a smart person learns from other people's mistakes. Read a lot.
It's simple. Basically, never flash anything that isn't made for the SGH-T999. And if using Odin, always use PDA.
Since you are rooted, get Terminal Emulator from the Play Store. Run it, and type: su <enter> reboot nvbackup <enter>. This will backup your IMEI data, so it can be restored should it ever become corrupted. You will only need to do this one time.
Follow these instructions, and it's pretty much impossible to hard brick.
You want to check root status? Why do you need another app from the Play Store? Just open Superuser/SuperSU. It will tell you if the binaries are present/updated. Though, the presence of a su app is generally indicative that you have root access.
"Good news tonight for AT&T subscribers, as a number of readers are now reporting that Samsung's update to Android 4.1.1 is now available for the Galaxy S III via Kies. We've reached out to the carrier to learn whether any specific improvements are in store, but it's not like we need to tell you that users will be immersed in the goodies of Google Now and the performance enhancements from Project Butter. Word from members of xda-developers reveals that the update weighs in at a substantial 738MB. For those keeping score, AT&T's update to Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S III follows previous deployments from Sprint and T-Mobile..." -Engadget.

You can also use mobile odin pro and enable everroot. If you maintain root, you can use goomanager from the market to install twrp recovery. Seems like there are a number of ways to do this, I just found this the easiest way.
I downloaded from samsungupdates sites and install de .tar file with mobile odin pro... and i kept root sou if u wanna be stock but keeping root i recommend you this way its easy!

Just got my S3 2 weeks ago. Never rooted it. Figured I'd wait until JB update. (Just want to root for tethering, not interested in custom firmware or mods). Can someone post a link to or recommend the safest/easiest wait to root since JB 4.1.1 update?
Thanks

Entirely up to you, honestly it isn't that hard to make a backup of all your apps with 'Helium' and restore onto the stock rom, etc. It's the challenge everyone faces when flashing ROMs. I would wait until there's an update and see what changes it brings before reverting. But you will want to download the stock .tar for instances you need to go back to stock.
Is there a way to root the device again and still maintain having all blotware removed? Or will it add back all carrier and third party apps?

If you did a nand backup, it will install the bloat again and also with the .tar file unless stated bloat has been removed.

All official updates are complete with bloat, the only way is to install the update and remove the bloat afterwards or wait for someone to release a debloated rooted build.

Just wait. When an official update is released a debloated version usually appears on the forums that is prerooted and ready for CWM/TWRP.
I'm also getting the same message. Is it because super user is installed or because of my custom recovery? Or both? If I remove super user will it work? Or would I also need to flash the stock recovery?

It's because we rooted, but uninstalling it won't reset it because of the ticker, anything installed after the factory condition will show it as custom.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
There is no official stock (yet) so your stuck like that
But if your rooted in the first place why does it matter you can install any firmware/software updates yourself
Official stock is out. Check the general forum.

So I am assuming you have an AT&T S3. If so are you currently running 4.1.1? If so it probably recognized that there is an update to 4.1.2...or it was just randomly checking.
Yes it is at&t but im on 4.1.2 there isn't another update that just got released is there?

I am on 4.1.2 and there are no other current updates that I know of. The AT&T software update may have been simply polling the server to check for one. I am not really sure. I have disabled the app service with TiBu so I don't have to worry about it.
Well I clicked on it and it said there is an update available, im afraid to download because this is not stock its modified stock. Can I just remove the update app using titanium backup?

I have an at&t s3 that is unlocked and am using it on t-mobile. I had the phone rooted with stock 4.1.2. Every time I tried to manually update it, it would pop up with update interrupted. Update may be failing because you are rooted. Rumor is you must be 100% stock unroofed for the update to complete.
As I said I unrooted and went back to stock 4.1.1!

Using it on TMobile means that the AT&T servers won't even know it's out there to be updated. Find an AT&T sim card and it should update.

I'm just going by what other people have reported. There have been a few that said they had trouble updating with a TMO sim card in. I haven't updated mine because I'm running stable right now and I'm waiting to see if the developers here can work around this new bootloader. They're having more trouble that usual manipulating Samsung's crap. I've heard it's a good update (smooth running, etc) but it's nearly impossible to flash other stuff if you get it.
Still cant get it to update ota and kies says its the latest firmware.

If you are connected to Tmo's network even if it did recognize the phone as needing to be updated it would download the T999 ota which is most likely causing your problem when the installer checks the hardware for compatibility. A quick google search turned up THIS which is a (stock) recovery flashable .zip for the official UCUEMJB build.
