Hello, I have a Note 2, and today I accidentally did spill water on it, I did take out the battery, dry everything, battery, contacts, the surface, I removed the SIM card, and I have not turned it on since it happened, I'm afraid that there's still water inside; I dry it at least 5 seconds after it happened, I was readin on putting the phone in rice in a bowl, without battery, disassembled or assembled? does it work? does it has to be fully covered? it's dry now, but if you please can give me another advice, I would appreciate it, thanks!

Yes disassemble it. i mean remove battery cover and battery too and let it in a bowl of rice(covering the phone with the rice) for a day. It'll absorb the humidity and phone should work .

well yes you can keep the phone on a bowl of rice but dont fully submerged the phone in rsther kkep it on top level just a bit submerged, dont ever try to to use hair dryer and stuff, rather the best way would be if you can disassemble the unit and keep it to dry moisture for a day and it should run fine after that ,do check if any motherboard has any water residue and even the digtizer if found then let it dry more until unless you are sure it has soaked the moisture
I've left the phone in a bag half covered with rice, I won't use it until tomorrow, I'm pretty sure it's ok, as I said, I dryed it in about 5 seconds after I spill the water, thanks for the help, I will let you know if it works

Last night i was in the bathroom, and accidently dropped it in the sink, It wasnt submurged under water or anything, it had a light splash of water near the charger port, the sticker under the battery is slightly pink. The phone works fine. No problems. however when i plug it into my computer, i cant turn on usb storage, but it will charge, also I tried winamp yesterday and it synced my phone and copied all music to the phone.. What should I do? I could swap the phone out but the problem is it's rooted, and if they find water damage they said theyd charge me 200 bucks. What should I do? Could i call HTC? :/
If you don't have insurance then theres nothing you can do except get another phone.
For future reference if you ever drop your phone into any kind of water....immediately take the battery out...leave the phone apart (back case, battery, phone) and then stick them all into a big bowl of uncooked rice and let them sit in there for a couple of days.
The rice will absorb the moisture and usually your phone will still work okay.

I did leave it in rice for a about 6 hours, i noticed the battery seems to have a water damage sticker on the bottom of the battery and it didnt even hit that. the water damage seems to be minimal

Well if you can live with your phone the way it is then just do that. If not then pay the deductible and get yourself a new phone.
I may consider just keeping it, I mean i could just use dropbox to sync. Maybe it will come back to life.
EDIT: WOW. my usb is connected!! wow. dude. wow. sounds like a troll post but it's working again. this is insane. i just blew in it with canned air and it started to work.
You probably blew some water droplets off of where they were shorting a circut perhaps dried it id still be careful

I'd leave it in the rice with the battery out for as long as possible. It may take a few days for the water to dry out.
I went swimming with my phone once, for a good 5 minutes before I realized what happened. There was a nasty buzzing noise (I though it was an insect).
I dropped it in rice, stuck some packets of dessicant in it (the packets they put in shoe boxes and electronics) and it functioned for a month. It then died completely and I had to toss it. This was the Nokia 5300 from back in the day.

U got a hair dryer? If you do after its been in rice 24 hrs open container and blow it dry for 10-15 mins replace for another 24hrs then blow dry another 10-15mins ON LOW then try powering it up

Don't use a blow dryer if the temperature on it is too hot. I did that to a keyboard... it can melt the parts... use a cold fan or a blow dryer that has a button for cold air (like mine). My mom recently washed her phone... no luck if you leave your phone in a pocket. The SIM card and SD cards should be fine even if they go for a long swim. My wallet, with my SD cards, have endured such a thing many times.

That's y I said make sure its set on low you only want slightly warm moving air 24hrs AFTER its sat in dry rice to remove the slight moisture left then you should put it back in fresh dry rice for another 24hrs then blow dry on low again for a few mins and let sit for 20 or so mins after blow dry then put back together and test

Yeah, remove battery, 24hrs in fresh dry rice; blow dry on low or cool air setting 10-15mins; place in fresh dry rice for 24hrs again; blow dry 10-15mins; let sit 20-30mins; replace battery, test
you can look in some of your other products around the house and pull the little packets of beads that say do not feed to children. place them with the device. Be very careful with a hair dryer as it is used in screen replacement to heat the glue around the screen. if your battery/sd card show signs of corrosion on the leads use a new pencil eraser to clean them. good luck.
Just remember when using the hair dryer to help dry the phone out u don't want to do it first. EVER. And you don't want it to be hot, u only use it after sitting in the rice to help push and evaporate the minute amount of moisture left inside the housing after its sat in the dry rice which will pull the large amounts of water and moisture out mostly the hairdryer method is to push some warm air thru the phone to help move the moisture that's left towards the openings and off the logic board and other electronics inside and at the same time the warmth from it helps evaporate some moisture u can't see the other option besides a hair dryer if you have the tools(and skills) is to take the phone completely apart as broken down as u cab and use qtips and a shamwow type of cloth to carefully dab up any moisture u see on the boards and connectors and u can use 91% isopropyl alcohol to clean any corrosion you see starting to form alcohol fully emulsifies meaning it evaporates to nothing and wont cause corrosion, I've actually soaked logic boards from printers in dishes of alcohol to remove ink debris that leaked from bad cartridges onto the print controller clogging the ink ports and been able to save the parts with out having to replace them, I was really skeptical the first time anyone told me to actually submerse the boards in a liquid thinking it would cause some irreparable damage but as long as u let it sit out for an hour or so after the alcohol is like it was never there. Now I couldn't even tell u how many times I've used the alcohol to clean electronics I've accidentally spilled soda or something sticky on and managed to save them with no signs of damage or ill behavior afterwards
Its about 2:30 Pacific Time and it looks like nothings bad! Phone looks dry but should I take it out and Blow Dry it? It looks like nothing/no water is there!

I would dry if u want then replace in rice for atleast until morning before attempting to power on
Edit: memory cards are usually a non issue good quality cards are waterproof and have gold contacts which wont corrode my SD card has gone for a swim a few times
So I dropped my phone in my bath
It was in the bath like literally 1 second or such and I grabbed it out real quick. The screen was on all the time until I pulled the battery
I immediately pulled the battery out and cleaned the outisde with a towel.
After an hour or so I inserted the battery and it came up with the white screen itself(i didn't have to push the power button myself)
Then i waited and it got stuck on the second bootscreen(past the white HTC logo)
Then i pulled the battery out and back in, now the only thing it does is give me a red led.
Have I killed it by trying to power it on? I should've had put the phone in a bowl of rice.

Let the device dry with the lid and battery taken off, preferably near a heater or something.
Or use a dryer with lowest heat setting.
After you have dried it, put it in the freezer for 30 minutes. That should freeze the remaining water particles. Try to boot afterwards.
Thanks, I already dried it with my hairdryer. The phone is now in a bowl of rice.
After I dried it with the hairdryer I 'accidentally' put the battery back in and the screen turned on.(first I had no screen, only red led).
But I immediately pulled the battery out again. Does the fact that the screen still turns on indicate that it is probably possible to make it work again? So you say put it near a heater and then 30 minutes in the freezer? With that you mean without battery, sd card and sim card?
I'm gonna try that after I take it out of the rice.

Not sure if you guys are kidding about putting electronics in a microwave...
The only proper way is to disassemble the phone and let it dry. Then clean it with a contact spray maybe.
I dropped my DESIRE 3-4 weeks ago in the f*cking toilet.
What i did was:
pulling out the batt
cleaning the phone with antibacterial wipes
cleaning the phone with contact spray
leave it for 2 days(just in case) to dry
..and now my phone works fine.
PS: you have NO idea how much water was inside the phone, despite it was with TPU cover, and dropped in the water for not more than a 1-2 sec.
NEVER EVER rely on drying it just like that

I somehow don't think its the heat the key is in the name MICROWAVE
There'd of been sparks flying everywhere in the microwave.

Congrats on drying it out.
Be VERY careful with heat -- that's what kills things worse than water IMHO
I also have a "Drowned Desire" (cdma kind) my freind gave it to me she dropped it in sink.
Instead of rice I used the dessicant packs you get @ the ammo store. Set the phone battery out open side down on top of the dessicant and another pack on top then set the shoe-box on top of the hot water heater (it's warm-ish, and dry, area)
Left it for 5 days and it worked
Still tryin to get the rootkit out of it

Here I am again, after a week in a bowl of rice the desire is working perfectly again,I was surprised that it even booted up.
I got a friend's desire so now I have two of them. Anyway, it is working again thanks to the rice.

HELPPPPP Basically it slid in the sink because the surface was unsually slippy and as soon as it dropped in water

i tried shaking the phone then putting the battery and case off trying to dry it then put it back on and the screen went yellowish and then went completely black now i cant even see the screen i dont really wanna buy a new phone i got it november aswell and really want to try fix this

Isn't it because rice drains water (even as far as draining water from air, which is why you should keep rice in dry environments)
My girlfriend dropped hers in the toilet the other day. I took the thing apart and blew out as much moisture as I could with pressurized air, then left it alone for a day. It works fine now.

The rice thing does have some validity, it worked on my fiances iPod after a trip through the washing machine anyway.
Unfortunately OP, turning it on so soon was a mistake and probably caused more damage than the water itself. I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Rice has starch, it pulls water towards itself. Surprised you dont know this.

Take the battery out, keep the battery cover off and place the phone on a bag of rice for at least 24 hours and let the rice draw the moisture away from the phone.

Hello there. I dropped my Note 2 yesterday into the sink for a 7-10 seconds:crying:. It is almost the same story. I took apart the whole mobo and put it into the rice for 24 hours. Today I tried it and it worked for 30 minutes without any problem. Than I decided to run Quadrant and at the end of the test the screen went first yellowish than all blank. I didn't want to force it so I removed the battery and put it into rice again.
I wonder what happened with yours. Is it working now, did you get replacement of something?

I've dropped my phone to water and it was working for some moment's and it got shut down.I dried it and i tried to press power but it didn't react at all and it's not turning on now.Do we have something on our phone that can prove that it was exposed to water ? Or is there something i could do to fix the prob ? Also only half of the phone got into water.And it vibrated once after like half an hour by itself,and i heard some weird sound from phone for some time.

My friend with a S4 had same problem.
How he fixed it was that he shut his phone off and left it in a bowl of uncooked rice (or use any dehydrator) for 2 or 3 days.
This is just advice and I've never experienced such issue.

Well, uncooked rice is good, its an easy alternative. Whats even better is silica gel. Its not easily available unless you're working in chemistry lab or have friends that do. For silica gel, you can heat up the silica gel first, let it cool and put your phone inside the silica gel and let it be for 2 hours, even better if you remove the simcard and memory card tray so that the moisture can secape from inside the phone. You can try opening the back cover, only if you know how. Actually you need to open (I cant explain it here) the bottom rounded cover, then slide down the back cover then gently pull it out. For silica gel, a few hours should be enough. Longer is better. For uncooked rice, I would suggest a few days.Longer would be better.
Its really best to remove the battery of a phone, but in our phone case, its a bit difficult unless you know how to. At least you can put some insulator between the power contact between the battery and the phone.

I've read somewhere that if it work's it can die any time because of water that was inside,like ppl had their phone working for 2 - 3 months and suddenly they stop.Do you know any way that I can prevent this from happening ?

I think you should use the rice method to remove all traces of water left in your phone.

As we have said, leave your phone inside a bowl/box of uncooked rice, its a good humidity absorber. That will absorb almost all the humidity inside your phone. Don;t turn it on until then. You don't want anything to short circuit inside your phone. Silica gel is whole lot better than uncooked rice, but it can be hard to find.
Hardware button's doesn't work too so i can't wake it or turn it off..It was in rice for good 8 hour's and today I will return it to service.I think digitizer,microphone and hardware button's are the only thing's that doesn't work atm.
I was just listening to music when it fell in the tub filled with water(obviously). My initial reaction being the idiot and panicky me is to try if my phone is still on, and it was. then the battery drained so quickly and then i clicked the shut off button and it went off. I tried the rice method overnight. Nothing happened. Does my phone still have hope or should I let go? please help
