[Q] ADW Editing Icons in App Drawer - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

After mostly lurking XDA for some time, I'm starting to get more involved here. I just broke down and purchased ADW EX, to setup a custom theme. I'm looking to use a combination of icons from Aw0ken ADW Theme, Elegant, and Simple Text. Naturally I'd like to use ADW EX, as I just purchased it, like it's options, and is compatible with the icon packs I like.
What I need to figure out is how exactly I can specifically edit different icons in the app drawer it's self. I find it relatively simple to change them on the home screen, but see no obvious way to change them in the drawer. My OCD in me is having a hard time here. Too many apps that I use regularly, either do not have a icon in the pack(s) at all, or one that does not look aesthetically appealing imo.
TL;DR - I'm open to any options that could get me to a result in which I could mix and match icons from different packs. Specifically, I want them to mix and match in the app drawer. Can't seem to get to any edit mode there, after trying long presses and multi-presses of icons.
Thanks in advance, let me know if I need to elaborate.

The app drawer that lists all of your applications, or the dock on the bottom of the home screen? Pretty sure u can't edit in the app drawer itself...

The app drawer itself. I know nova launcher lets you, my problem is that I don't see a way to make one of the icon packs work for it.

I use nova prime, and have for a while, and there is no way to change an icon in the app drawer itself!

Launcher with 4 icons

Now I've looked long and hard on this one. Thoughout xda and any other site that is similar. But to no success. So I ask...
Where and/or how can I get a launcher that has just 4 icons in its dockbar?
The touchwiz one is slow and the homescreen is locked on the first screen "iPhone" style.
ADW launcher and its EX version have been updated to not allow the old "secondary AB settings" anymore.
Launcher pro cant do it period
And the open home launcher is too difficult and I cant pay for it. Used up this weeks app budget.
So I need a launcher that has 4 icons in its dockbar. The new MIUI.ADW launcher has it in its settings but I dont like the scaling and size of the app icons in the drawer and homescreens.
Any help please?
And I mean 4 icons as in similar to touchwiz. Three changable apps and one app drawer icon.
Well you could set up LauncherPro with only 4 shortcuts in the dock. Just leave one of the spaces blank.

Yeah but that makes it appear disorganised. I wan one that's spaced the way the toucwiz launcher is spaced. Go check out miui for adw launcher in the market. Some Guy managed to alter it to use only 4 icons in the dock. I would just use that one with a different theme, but the icons are blown up way too much.
Download launcher pro icons via the market you can change the appearance of you dock 100%.

So you can make the just 4 icons (including launcher) appear evenly amongst the entire dock? There will not be an open space where an icon should be?

I don't think so. I just tried LPI and didn't see any option of making it have what you want. I didn't play around with it too much though because I wanted to uninstall it within the 15 minutes so I didn't get charged for it.
I know what I suggested isn't what you are looking for it was just a thought. You might want to check out this themed version of LP though. It comes with icons in the first 3 dock spaces, then the 4th one blank and the app drawer on the far right. Doesn't look too bad actually.

It does look nice but its not quite what I'm looking for. Does anyone know a way to mod the Adw launcher to have 4 icons in the dock?
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.adw.launcher.miui&feature=search_result
I tried this launcher for a few minutes but I cant get the icons to scale properly with another theme. They all look blown up.
Why not just use ADW Ex with no Dock? This would put 4 Icons on the bottom row and you could make one the app drawer. I am not sure if free ADW has the option for no dock, but I know for sure the Ex version does. I think this way will give you the best most uniform look available.
Live home... but havent found it in the gb market

Why dont you flash miui, if your rooted obviously. It has 4 changeable dock icons that seem to be what your looking for. I personally like it, except it has no app drawer if thats a deal breaker for you. I dont mind it.

[Q] Best launcher and the feature/advantage of that launcher you can't live without

What is the best LAUNCHER in ur comparison..and the best feature that makes it awesome...(eg. mine is goLauncherex coz it have swipe in the screen to do additional options like swipe down for notification or open helicopter view of all home screens).....REPLY PLZ
I use adw ex because its fast. But when Zeam has widget scrolling back i will use that mainly cause, adw ex is fast but it uses more memory and sacrifices graphics. You can check this by using a dark/black coloured widget and then scrolling, you will see it distort.
I use ADW Launcher Ex, it has the same swipe features and many themes available

+1 for ADW Launcher Ex, it just seems to move smoother and more fluidly than others ive tried.
Tried several all they all have advantages, still, surprisingly, I am now quite used to TouchWiz on the Galaxy S2 2.3.3 and while it is not perfect, decided to stop bothering with other launchers for now. It does a fair, fast/fluid job and I complement it with a couple of widget-thingies like Elixir and a couple of apps like Tasker and ZDTools.
The good part is that it appears to be very stable. I'll probably keep using it until something amazing shows up.
LauncherPro, tried Zeam and Go Ex, both rather slowly working. But I like the feature on GoEx launcher to open the recent apps out of the appdrawer...
I like Go Launcher's ability to uninstall an app just by long-pressing on the app icon in the drawer of home screen, and that you could add up to 30 screens--something few launchers can do.
ALso the many themes and icons that it has for free download. Font packs though, are not its strength. You'd have to look elsewhere for fonts.

30 screens -> will be BAD SLOW! i have 3 screens and it is really enough...
launcher pro: tap long on an icon, drag it over the trash can and wait -> so you can uninstall it
I love adw launcher being able to hide app labels, looks much cleaner.
Quite like transparent app drawer too!

Launcher customization

Hi,
Anyone know how far we can customize the 5 icons at the bottom of the home launcher?
I saw in one video that we can replace the apps there.
But, is it possible to only change the icon?
With current LauncherPro, I changed all those 5 icons into "text only", which is nice
So, wondering if we can do the same with the stock ICS launcher!
Ummm... The phone is not our yet.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
no, there is no plain text option.
you can replace the 4 apps, but not the middle settings button. you can put folders (groups of apps) in the 4 spots as well. and re-arange the order in the folders. the 1st program in the folder has the top icon displayed first.
Well, I did not mean "plain text", but changing the icon of the apps in that bottom bar.
Only the icon ...
If this is not possible, is there any way to achieve this?
Like, creating an app with custom icon to launch other app

There is an app on the market to change an applications icon but I don't know how well it works or how it would work with the nexus.
Stock Android Launchers do not have the facility to do what you are asking.
Mark.
Use desktop visualizer from the market

i dare say that once the source is released someone will customise the ICS launcher like GO, LPP, ADW etc have done with current stock android launcher (I hope)
Unless the launcher dock allows widgets on it which I doubt many if these apps that you can change icons with won't work. They create a widget on your homescreen that is a shortcut to that app. this is why you find these apps in the widget section when adding them to your homescreen

I was wondering this too.. it seems like something along the lines of Better Cut would work. It makes a shortcut on your desktop to the app using a custom icon... I would think you could then drag that onto the quick launch bar.
Yupe, I really really hope so this will work.
I don't like to have multi colored icons down there!

I can confirm that Desktop Visualizer works with the GN launcher. For the 1x1 icons you can even drag them on top of each other to make folders just like you can normally on ICS. You can also drag them onto the bottom launch bar.
EDIT: Testing it further, it seems that ANY 1x1 widget acts like an icon. You can put them in folders or put them in the dock bar. Sweet!
EDIT again: Agh. My bad. Looks like only some 1x1 widgets can do that. Others can't. Still not sure how it's determined which ones can and which ones can't.
Nice!
What do you mean with "cant" for some of the 1x1 icon?
How do you describe that "cant"? Simply cannot be dragged?
Please if you can give us some examples which dont work.
Thanks

Basically there seem to be two types of 1x1 widgets. One of them is "icon-sized", such as the native bookmark and direct-dial widgets and also the 1x1 icon that Desktop Visualizer makes. These can be stacked into folders just like you can with a regular icon.
The second type seems to be a 1x1 widget that takes up the whole tile space. (An icon takes only a part of the tile space and these rest of the space is used for the label.) These include things such as 1x1 clock widgets or another type of 1x1 widget that Desktop Visualizer also makes. You can drag them around the homescreen space like you can with any widget, but you can't stack them into folders or put them in the dock bar.
Hope that clarifies it.
Anyway I attached a screenshot of examples. The widgets are the left side are stackable/dockable and the ones on the right side aren't.
Thanks, that is ver clear.
And I saw in your screenshot that you have changed the docked apps to use text icons, nice ... Very nice.
Given the new high resolution screen, what is the resolution of those icons?
How did you make one?
If you are using Photoshop, please if you can share the PSD files
Thanks

I actually made the icons with an app called "Simple Text - Text icon creator" which you can find on the market. Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to share the style but it's pretty easy to figure out (or you can make something even better ).

Favorite Launcher?

Nothing came up in the seach so thought I'd get some input on launchers. It would be nice to hear why you prefer certain launchers over others.
Feel free to add my rom and kernel are great, I dont bother with any extra launcher.
Ive been using Go Launcher for a while now, I really like it.
A quick thing I noticed was that they put a settings button back on the bottom with back and home where it belongs. Not sure why google took this out, theres room for it.
The abundance of customization is nice.
Lots of homescreen transitions (I love the cylinder one)
Lots of dock control, really like how clicking and swiping a dock icon can launch separate apps.
App drawer settings are good, I really dislike the iphone horizontal page turn set up of the standard app drawer so having a vertical scroll is a great option. Changing the grid size, easily hiding apps, having the all/recent/running tabs.
Gesture settings, already so many ways and apps to get to things quicker, having this built in is a bonus. I got used to it in dolphin browser so it was a welcomed addon. Also simple things like swiping down anywhere on the screen to pull down the notifications bar is something Im not sure I could go without now.
Nice theme selection, Although I dont bother with any.
Lots of other great GO apps and go widgets.
I used to really like the whole menu system they have when you long press on a homescreen to pull up widgets, wallpapers, themes etc until ICS added the widget previews right in the app drawer. Thats missing in Go Launcher and is one of the few things I wish it had.
I have liked Apex a lot. Seemed like I could setup a single 6x6 screen with smoothness better then I could with Nova. In both cases I used the betas with Jelly Bean patches in them.
Also, there is a whole thread here about launchers:

Nice, I guess since I put favorite in the seach it didn't come up.
My favorite is whatever comes stock on my current ROM. To me, the advantages of different launchers aren't that great to have to mess with one more thing.

[Q] launchers

I'm not going to ask which launcher or anything like that. I already have one in mind if I do decide to go that route.
What I want to know is if they are worth it or not? Do they slow the phone down at all? As it seems as an overlay to an overlay.
I see some, like nova, have a add-on for unread counts for messages and calls and things. Is this saying that without this add-on I won't have a count for missed messages or a notification at all?
Thanks you for the input
launchers
In comparison to the stock LG launcher you'll find you'll actually have a smother experience. Launchers like holo or nova are really light weight and have a smaller footprint in memory than the stock launcher. When you choose a new launcher as default the lg launcher is closed. Or at least resources are being prioritized to the default launcher. I'm a beginner when it comes to how android handles processes so maybe someone else can offer a better explanation. The addons for nova add unread counts to icons on homescreens, app drawer and folders. You'll still get all notifications through the status bar. Its just eye candy and extras you get for the paid version of the launcher.

Won't hurt to check out other launchers. If you dont like them simply uninstall and your back to where you were
ADW is old school and basic, I prefer that. Holo is decent so is Apex, but my go to is always Nova. They're all fun to play with.
It's worth it. I use Nova and it's faster and has more organization and customization options than stock LG or AOSP. Just the speed and being able to hide apps from the app drawer is worth it for me. For reference, Nova runs way faster on my Nexus 7 than the JB launcher.
lots of good options. Nova is a great one, but I like Apex and Holo.
To answer your question, if you don't install extensions, then you won't have the message count on the app icon, but that's all it does. I personally don't like it, so I have never installed it.
Honestly though, if you aren't a "power user" who likes to tinker with all of the options in the launcher, Apex, Holo and Nova are all very similar.
Can someone explain the dock as overlay option? Isn't the dock always visible on the home screen?

Default, the dock is basically an extra row of icons ON the desktop, that carries over from screen to screen.
Dock as overlay changes your dock to being a row of icons that is on a layer separate from your desktop. As an example, you can turn this on and turn on a slide up gesture to toggle dock, which would give you a kind of mini app drawer on top of the desktop. If you did not turn this on, toggling dock would bump your desktop icons up and down, as it would then be a part of the desktop and not be a layer on top of it.
