I have the Sprint LG Optimus G for about 7+ months now, rooted it "now unrooted". But two days ago my device deactivated, says Im on the Chameleon Network and that Im no longer in the USA, its believes Im in Korea for some reason. Did a full unroot and flashed back factory stock rom.
That did not fix the problem though, still will not reactivate itself nor stop saying that Im on this Chameleon Network and not in the USA.
If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this problem or work arounds before I have to go to Sprint and hopefully get a new one that would be great.

Yeah I already tried all those fixes with no luck.
Im basically fine with it saying Chameleon Network, really just want my phone to stop thinking that I am in Korea nor letting me reactivate my phone.
Even running the LG Mobile Support tool right now, but it just gets stuck at 4% on the S/W Upgrade.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to fix this. I had the exact same thing happen to me a couple months ago and I wasn't even rooted. My phone was working fine one minute, did a random reboot, then bam! When it came back on, everything was zeroed out and it wouldn't activate. Tried everything, finally took it to a Sprint repair facility and they could not get it to work either. They have no way of reprogramming the missing info either. They just ended up ordering me a replacement phone that didn't count against my insurance (no co-pay) because it was still under warranty and the issue was considered a product defect and not anything I did. I did some research and found out this has happened to others. Could be an issue with the original model phones. My first one was bought in January and they were released on October the previous year.

You're wrong on the programming .... U can program you're missing numbers and so can sprint ... We have a thread that tells u how ... If you're rooted it makes it that much easier.... Chameleon network itself isn't the problem...like I said before you have no telephone number programmed ,no prl loaded,no ESN loaded... Sprint can't activate ya phone over the air with out that stuff being programmed ... That's how it verifies who u r or else we all be in one big account together ....

Yes, you can program some of it which they tried. But the rest of the info they could not program (MEID, IMEI). You can say they (Sprint) can program all you want, maybe at the factory, but at the Sprint repair facility, they could not. I am merely telling you what they told me. Like I said, I had the EXACT same thing happen. And they just ended up ordering me a replacement phone.
*shrugs* Don't know what else to tell you. Just seems easier to take it to Sprint and get a replacement. If it dumped the info once, whats not to say it won't happen again.,

Please reread what I posted. As I stated, I am going by what Sprint told me. And THEY were not able to reprogram. I am not insisting anything, I am merely passing on info I received from Sprint support. Whether he wants to try and reprogram his phone is up to him and makes no difference to me. Just seems easier to take it to Sprint and get a replacement.

i just go done talking to sprint.... my phone has a Display problem...i asked for a warranty replacement. I told them what happened and i didnt tell them it was rooted because of the obvious reasons.... as it turns out sprint can actually remotely go into your phone and know exactly what you are running.... They asked about myn and warm 2.2.... so i had to tell them... so just a heads up be careful who you talk to.... did anyone else know this?
Wow, I didnt know that but thanks for the H.U.
Luckily I have TEP so its not much of a problem but that would be something to look out for if your phone starts acting up
What happened?
Did they follow through with the Warranty or void it? I do IT work for a few sprint stores and was told that rooting the phone would void its warranty (hence why I ask). In the same breathe, none of them at the stores would know
Thanks for the info.

So what if you ruu back to factory settings? About 3 weeks ago I had to have a speaker replaced they didn't say anything about it but he actually asked me if I had ever thought about rooting I just played dumb. That's crazy though that they can see that remotely... actually no thats not that crazy.

Just run the ruu. If your phone is usb connected and the only issue is the display that won't prevent you from going back to stock. You can check usb connectivity in windows or by doing an adb devices if you have set up adb.

Hold on, hold on...before we get all flared up, I don't think Sprint is actually logging on to our phones.
They are likely just getting Mod/Kernel version from About Phone menu option..just the way they can know about the PRL/PRI from their system (may be these are the traces that our phones leaves on the system).
If you guys are so worried, just go to build.prop and change the mod/build name.

sorry, not trying to be rude. But no sense asking what ifs, just because this seems to be news to everyone that Sprint can do this. So changing the build.prop might be a good start, if that doesnt work then I dont know. I don't develop these things. Maybe make some type of cached image that looks legit, so Sprint sees that instead of the actual figures. Or some type of block maybe
Or sue them

iv'e gotten most of my phones from craigslist and they still replaced them for me. i just waited like a week to make sure that my imei number showed up in there system so they didnt question me where i got my phone from lol.
Yeah my phone was only working for less then 24 hours, I don't think there's any hope for tmo to replace it. What I don't get this is someone at some point bought it from tmobile, why do they care if it changed hands?
damn that sucks. it wont show up in there system if it was only used for less then 24 hours. sometimes i would just chat with tmobile online and tell them that i want to make sure they have my correct imei number in there system and they ask me what my imei number is then they tell me its not the right one and if they want me to have them update it and i say yes then they tell me it can take up to 48 hours for there system to update it. idk why they care if u didnt get it from them.

@GalaxyDev
Your problems are very likely caused by "making it work" on different carriers. There must be some settings that are just not correct. As for the radio on the Epic 4g Touch, I agree it is weak. But since the EL29 update and beyond, the radio performance has improved GREATLY and it works as it should now. The Motorola Photon has the BEST radio of any Sprint phone I've ever used. Side by side comparisons proved that to me. The Phonton is a cdma/gsm global device so it's something you might want to consider.

So I have a T-Mobile Samsung gs2 that locked up on me. I took it to T-Mobile store and they refered me to a shops that ended up fixing it for me. I believe they changed the imei number. But when they did this it went back to GB when I originally had the 4.0.4. Now he said he could flash and install update but will charge. So my question is it a regular rooting and flashing which I know I can do myself or is it really something only he can do. I really don't feelfeel paying for something I know I can do myself. Thank you in advance
Gingerbread is what originally comes with the phone, there was an upgrade to ICS later on.
To your question, If its stock, you can just upgrade to ICS through kies (which he's gonna do). No rooting etc necessary, unless you want to later. Do it yourself, he's scamming you!

Yea after finding out what he they did I looked up what it was to change the imei number, because I never had this problem before, I understand its a bad thing. But I wasn't the one who did it. I was actually surprised T-Mobile told me to take it in to have this done. But what I've learned is mobile can't tell when this is done. So I'm ok with it and besides soon as the note 2 comes out I'm selling the phone. It's unlocked as well so I'll prob sell it to an AT&T user. Thanks for heads up though bro

You could also use ODIN, instead of Kies, to flash the stock recoveries, you just need to look for the files on here!
Edit, found a guide that will help you get back to "fresh" stock, so that you can upgrade to ICS with Kies.

I assumed he was scamming because the OP mention the IMEI number was changed (fishy), and mostly likely flashed a custom or modified gingerbread ROM, that's why Kies won't read the phone. If the repair person brought the phone back to full stock, it should be able to connect no problem, which doesn't look like he did.

yea he did change the imei number. and kies updated just fine. it brough my phone back to 4.0.4 but the problem was that after the update the phone got locked again. im guessing the imei number went back to its original. so my thing is im wondering if i root and flash an updated zip will my phone lock again. from my understanding flashing shouldnt mess with the imei number but thats why i wanted advice from people on this site. im still a nood but was able to learn what i know from this site. thanks again bro
imei
I dont think the imei is a problem.
I had in the past the galaxy and glaxy 4g that had a changed imei (dou to unlocking)
it never gave me any problems.

So after changing imei number you rooted and were able to to flash without a prob? Now is this just a one time flash or multiple?
One can change the IMEI number? that is crazy, this is like changing the VIN number of the car, how is it even possible?

Yea you can. It's not something I recommend doing because it is illegal. But so are bootleg movies and burning music from the internet. You can Google info on how to do that though.

Okay few questions;
What ROM are you on ?
When did this happen ? (Some show zero and the IMEI is fine after a reboot)
Does nothing work ?
Try this thread. Its a life saver for many and many with littel experience have all had success.

It takes some time i.e. more than an hour sometimes at first but it will work. Next time back it up before hand

Hey buddy,
thanks for the quick replay!
after i was having no outcome and income data and phone calls, what i did, restored the phone into rooted stock rom. and i was still not having anything, so what i did was, i unrooted my phone so back to original factory stock version. Still i got full signal but nothing was working ( data, calling and text )
nothing works at this moment. I left my phone at home right now, i was trying this thread before posting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804123
but it didnt worked even thought it shows successful. The one that you showed me, is confusing me big time, maybe it was very late when i found this link, now i got my coffee and ready for action, so i will try it tonight.
question for you, if my IMEI shows as a random number instead of my original IMEI, dose my phone still works? when it comes down to data and phone calls and text?
Thanks in advance mate,
If your phone shows up some random number as IMEI, that's not correct. Try to get back your original IMEI.

Tried it today morning, and it didn't worked. ( seems like this method works only with US version only )
What carrier are you on ? Use the one I posted. It works for the Canadian carriers listed. You will use it to restore your original imei from back of phone to your software

Thanks man, i just followed the link that you told me.
i mostly focused in this part though, what happened was, after i injected my IMEI, my phone was working, however, i was having slow connection, so i just reflashed my phone to the stock version rooted, and it worked
Consider yourself very lucky I had the same problem and tried for two full days using Peoplesarmy method. I couldn't get it to work and had to go thru my insurance to get another phone.
My advice is to make an NV backup just in case it happens again. Happy flashing:thumbup::thumbup:
